There are moments in our journey that are truly life-changing. This week, I'm answering a listener question from Ruby, who underwent four years of cancer treatment and is struggling to feel sexy again. Admittedly, I originally didn't feel qualified to answer this question, since I have not experienced cancer myself. But then I thought about it, and decided that falling back in love with ourselves requires the same work and commitment whether you're finding it post something hugely traumatic like fighting cancer, or if you've lost your partner, your home, or whatever you might be struggling to come back from. So that said, I think you will find my advice helpful if you're having trouble falling back in love with yourself too. We talk about:[2:55] Ruby's question[7:45] Knowing your worth and value as a whole person[15:00] Having hard conversations with your partner that will draw you closer together[19:40] Tips to process hardship and get your sexy back Loved this episode? Let's get candid, friend. How do we become good financial role models for our kids? If you're like me, you may have grown up with a scarcity and fear-based mindset when it comes to money and finances. My mom was always living paycheck to paycheck, making sure my siblings and I had everything we needed, but there was never anything left afterwards. Growing up, I always found money to be something that was hard to get, that it goes as fast as it comes. Even when we started to make more money as the years went on, I still had that lingering belief of ‘what if it's not enough.' This is why today's conversation is SO important, our kids need to learn how to reframe their own beliefs about money too! If you're a parent, this is for you. If you're thinking about becoming a parent, this episode is for you. And if you are somebody like me, who, when you weren't a parent, you didn't learn about money at home, this episode is for you. Joining me on the show is Robin Taub, keynote speaker and award-winning author of The Wisest Investment: Teaching Your Kids to Be Responsible, Independent and Money-Smart for Life, an update of the bestselling A Parent's Guide to Raising Money-Smart Kids. Robin is obsessed with personal finance and investing. Using her financial background, and professional coaching training, she raised two responsible, independent mostly money-smart kids. Now, she helps other parents do the same! We talk about:[0:00] Intro[7:20] Debunking stereotypes around accountants[11:50] The 5 pillars of money[14:10] Three strategies to teach your kids about money[15:20] Why it's important to know what your values are with money[19:20] How to start financial healing[27:04] Tips to teach parents who are reluctant to money to teach their kids about it[39:00] How to shift from a scarcity mindset [47:50] How education around money and finances is changing in schools[57:30] Why you need to be accountable to your money Loved this episode? I know, I know, it sounds lofty to talk about chasing dreams and finding our purpose, but the truth is, as moms, sometimes we lose our purpose and our core desires along the way. That's why I'm so excited to share this conversation with my dear friend Sabrina Sigalas with you today. Okay friends, THIS is a question that really hit home for me. As you'll know from listening to my podcast, my parenting journey wasn't always easy. Even though I have three AMAZING daughters, my own healing took our relationship into some dark places at different times throughout our lives…completely unintentionally! I love that Amy asked this question about how to help our kids while we're on our own healing journey as parents, and I'm so excited to share my thoughts with you because I've seriously learned SO much about this. So, how do we help our kids when we ourselves are on our own healing journey? First, let me say, you need to give yourself lots of compassion – this will go such a long way! I give you my best tips for navigating this, and we talk about:[3:10] The power in ‘taking pause'[4:00] How seeking professional help can help us navigate tumultuous times[6:00] My lowest point as a mom and what I did to move through it[9:00] The importance of meeting our kids where they're at[15:15] Engaging in hard conversations in times when you feel like you can't[22:15] Recap of my best tips to help you heal and build stronger relationships with your kids Loved this episode? This weeks episode is filled with girl talk, cool mom advice and so many laughs. Our guest, Shantelle Bisson, is an author, serial entrepreneur and all around badass. We had a very enjoyable time talking about what makes a successful marriage, how to raise good kids and the trash can we call dating these days.
The teenage years can be a daunting time for both adolescents and parents. That search for their own independence sometimes comes with frustration, bad attitudes, and a clear need for boundaries. So it's not uncommon for parents to feel at a loss for how to handle their teen during this transitional period. Reset checks in with author Shantelle Bisson who says the teen years don't have to be so difficult.
Alex and Shane discuss their side effects after getting the COVID vaccine, a surprise trip planned by Alex's dad, the deterioration of their dream front porch, and Paul Newman's salsa . Shantelle Bisson, author and actress, shares her advice on "Parenting Your Teen Without Losing Your Cool." She discusses what we need to do as parents to prepare ourselves for teen problems, eating disorders, creating time for your partner, and handling classic and not-so-classic teen issues like sex, drugs, catfishing and sugar babies. She owns Shantilly’s Place, a marina in Ontario’s Kawartha region, and along with her husband, Yannick, they raised three young adults. You will surely enjoy this episode!
Hi Mamas, Welcome back to the show! This week, we have with us, Shantelle Bisson — an author, producer, parenting expert and regular contributor to Zoomer Magazine. She's also the owner of Shantilly's Place, a marina in Ontario's Kawartha region. She has raised three fully functioning young adults and splits her time between the lake, Toronto and Los Angeles. At the age four, she was drawn to the stage like a moth to a flame, and spent all kinds of time working in television and film, which eventually led to writing, a natural transition when working in the show biz. She launched her book, Raising Your Kids Without Losing Your Cool — the first of many from the series! And we, at YGTMedia Co, are super excited to be launching the second part in the Without Losing Your Cool series. Today's episode does a deep dive in Shantelle's world, her journey and how she came to be this powerhouse entrepreneur, wife, and mama that many see now. Spoiler alert—the glory is often within the grit and guts, and Shantelle's journey is one that will leave you feeling inspired and empowered. Many of us move through life, motherhood, relationships, and more on autopilot, almost mindlessly, day after day. Rarely do we pause with intention and ask ourselves the question — how do we want to lead? How do we want to live? And why? Shantelle's take on parenting is candid, refreshing, and gives every woman permission to own her motherhood with pride, sass, fun, love, and all the unapologetic vibes. All of the “hoods”—motherhood, parenthood, adulthood, wifehood don't happen in a predictable fashion. However, when they do come into our lives, it's worth fighting for. And that is where commitment, radical responsibility for how you show up in your life, and love leadership comes into play. Below are a few takeaways from today's episode: You will have many moments where you question yourself on everything-- if you're even cut out for love, marriage, parenthood. Listen to your gut, always. Don't let the voice in your head win. You can end the cycle and rewrite the narrative. Parenting and marriage are not a one-size-fits-all formula. Embrace your relationships. Keep communication open always, and lead with love. It's called real life, not reel-life. Live your life, Mama, beyond the highlight reel on social media. It won't always be perfect, but it's your beautiful chaos to embrace. Take time out to yourself, even if it's 10 minutes here and there. Claim your moments of creativity, rest, fun, and more. Nobody's going to hand it to you. Gratitude will always see you through. There's a lesson in every hardship and heartbreak. Turn your mess into your blessings. Be the parent your child needs you to be, and the one you desire to be. Embrace your wholeness—your mood swings, your laughter, your grief, your anger. There is nothing normal about the world we are currently living in. It's okay to feel how you feel. Give yourself permission to do just one thing a day, if that is all you can manage right now. There you have it, Mamas! I hope you enjoyed listening to this episode! Stay tuned for more information on Shantelle's newest book at shantellebisson.com or connect with her on Instagram at @shantellebisson. I hope you enjoyed listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it!
