Australian icon Tex Perkins takes us through his legendary career, from The Cruel Sea & The Beasts recent works, to wild ARIA award nights, his atrocious habits with vinyl records, reissuing his works on vinyl and lots more. Topics Include: Tex Perkins rehearsing with The Cruel Sea for upcoming gigs. Bringing back "deep cuts" from 30 years ago. Band already prepared the songs before his arrival. Feels like "personal karaoke" returning to old material. Gains fresh perspective on older songs with time. Sometimes writes songs instinctively, not from personal experience. Song "Hard For You" channeled rage he hadn't experienced. Recorded with Kid Congo Powers from Bad Seeds. ARIA Awards incident clarified - didn't stab anyone. Hit someone with a glass at an after-party. Molly Meldrum was present during the altercation. Lived with Jules Normington of Phantom Records. Paid rent by washing Jules' dishes. Had access to Jules' extensive record collection. Especially enjoyed 60s punk and garage rock records. Met John Foy, who was pedantic about record handling. Music scattered across many different record labels. Controls some albums, but not all. Universal owns The Cruel Sea and some Beasts albums. Axeman's Jazz recorded and mixed in six hours. Recent album "Ultimo" recorded differently - basic tracks then laptop. Modern recording allows more experimentation without studio costs. Prefers vinyl album lengths around 18-20 minutes per side. Three Legged Dog being released on three vinyl sides. Spanish reissues were "handshake deals" with unclear accounting. Appreciates unashamedly Australian content in newer bands. Newer bands don't hide their Australian accents. Never experienced censorship of his music. Had releases in different regions without his knowledge. No accounting from Big Time label after bankruptcy. Performed with The Legendary Stardust Cowboy in 1985. "Ledge" known for having "world's worst record" - Paralyzed. Backed Ledge with James Baker, Spencer Jones, Lachlan McLeod. Ledge progressively stripped during his performance. Threw Frisbee paper plates with drawings into the audience. A poem about our rescue dog, but also about deeper levels of perception and hope. You can also read it below: Tail of a Blind, Three-Legged Dog by A.M. Hayden (A Reverse Poem) What light can we find when the world seems to be burning When the Vet found him in a ditch in Mexico We don't know if he had a name or a home On a starless night stretched into dusky morning Before a black thread could be distinguished from white We don't know who or what shattered his back leg and jaw Every single day, for three months he held on Distressed vets resigned each morning that he may not make it They realized there was no chance To save the limb or exiled eyesight It's a fool's errand and none of it really matters anyway Never believe “There is a chance this could work out.” “You can make a difference in the world.” Many would agree “It's just a dog after all.” “Just put him down.” “You can't save them all.” how many said It's heartbreaking to imagine His joyous, thumping tail, goofy grin, collar's jovial jingle Stroking his shiny charcoal coat Fingertips reading his halfmoon shaped leather scars scattered across his skin in constellations What hope is left to engage with In this often dim and unsettling world (Now, read in reverse, from bottom to top)

During a walk yesterday I saw a three-legged dog. I thought to myself, "Poor dog, he's missing a leg..." until I watched the dog and realized, he didn't even notice. In this episode, we'll discuss: Reframing what's "wrong" with us Turning weakness to strength Embracing your Uniqueness

When the vet recommended amputation for their dog, Rene and Jim were terrified. Little did they know that this diagnosis would help them do a 180 and start living life to the fullest again. As it turns out, three legged dogs don’t just thrive—they can teach us a lot about this adventure called life. Rene and Jim tell us about their RV lifestyle, writing two books, meeting Mutts artist Patrick McDonald, and forming Tripawds, an international community for three-legged dog parents. Friendships, foundations, support groups, and even international parties have grown from what seemed like an unmitigated tragedy. And it’s all thanks to Jerry, a three-legged dog who taught his parents how to live in the moment. This episode is a gold mine for any dog parent living with or facing amputation, as Jim and Renee have created an amazing community and resources. Lydia Crochet is the "mom" to a three-legged dog named Jeanie. Jeanie is a three-legged therapy dog in Lake Charles, LA, and the star of her own children’s book, “Jeanie the 3-Legged Dog; I Don’t Need Four Feet”. It’s a heart-warming tale for dog lovers of all ages, reminding readers that anything is possible and it’s okay (and even cool!) to be different. Jeanie shares a powerful message of courage and acceptance, choosing to focus on the things she CAN do instead of her limitations. Jeanie is an adopted rescue. She was found in a rural area outside of Lake Charles in the Fall of 2007 when she was approximately five or six months old. She had a deformed and crippled front leg that made it difficult for her to walk. She was brought to a local vet’s office where they removed the leg, spay her and listed her for adoption with a local animal rescue organization. Tripawds Podcast Episode #91: Thinking of getting a brace your Tripawd? Find out why custom orthotics are best, and why it's important to consult with your vet first, on this episode of Tripawd Talk Radio. Recorded on December 19, 2019.As an amputee himself, Ben Blecha understands the importance of comfort and function for prosthetics and orthotic devices. But when it comes to dogs, you can't just ask them how they feel to determine a perfect fit. That's why he founded Hero Braces in 2005, to help provide limb stability for dogs who need it. Whether used as an alternative to surgery, or to help provide support when missing a limb, custom orthotic braces are the best solution. Tripawds Podcast Episode #85: On this episode of Tripawd Talk Radio Rene discusses, the benefits and potential of performing a lifetime study to analyze the long-term effects of limb amputation on dogs. Here at Tripawds, we are passionate about educating people to help their amputee pets live a long healthy life on three legs. And so is today's guest: Dr Felix Duerr, from Colorado State University's department of Small Animal Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. We have had the honor of meeting Dr Duerr a number of times, and having him as a previous guest on the show. Over the years, we have tossed around the idea of a lifetime study for amputee dogs. Something similar to the popular "Golden Retriever Lifetime Study" currently underway, could provide important insight into the mobility challenges and biomechanical changes Tripawds experience over time. But what would it take to perform a lifetime "longitudinal study" like this? We'll learn what that term means, the important discoveries such a study might reveal, and the challenges to make it happen. Please share this episode with your vets and veterinary colleagues.Recorded October 7, 2019.Support the show (https://tripawds.com/support)

On the last podcast episode, I lamented about the fact that I hated running, because I keep getting passed by the mom, in yoga pants, pushing a stroller, talking on a phone, drinking a Starbucks latte, while walking a three-legged dog. She passes by me effortlessly, and I am huffing and puffing trying to keep up. It turns out that in that last race, I was getting sick, and the next day had a fever. This kicked off a viral infection which went through the house, from November until February and beat the stuffing out of us. What I thought was just me being terrible at running, was actually the day before getting sick. For my mistaken assumption, I must apologize to the three-legged dog.

About Bart: In 2008, three year-old Bart was going along his daily life practicing for field trials, hunting and running up to 16 miles with his Mom Darcy. After a persistent limp wouldn't go away with R&R, Darcy took Bart to Dr. Huggins, his regular vet, who gave them the sad news that Bart had osteosarcoma growing in his scapula. Three years later, Bart is still in remission! Nothing slows Bart down and his accomplishments are many.
