Welcome to Part II of our Vægtløs - week! We promised you a lot for this week and we will keep our promise. We were very happy to talk with lyricist and vocalist of the band and admittedly this might not have been the happiest of conversations that we have had here on our VoS channel, this honestly ranks very high on our head honcho's list because of the depth of this talk. “Enjoy” while you get to know a lot more about the depth of this record! Aftryk might be a record of only a handful songs, but these songs hold so much content and most of it is looking at the darker side of life, aka death and we cope with it. In that sense it is very close to a record, Troels and Thorsten refer to quite a lot, Touché Amoré and their cancer-trauma record Stage Four! We have to say that the Danes might not be as well known as Jeremy Bolm, but believe us, when we say - they are to be reckoned with! Enjoy our interview and tell us, which record got you through some rough times?

This week's guest is the one-and-only Jeremy Bolm! We kick off the podcast talking about his own personal show, The First Ever Podcast, a fan favorite interview based podcast in the music industry. We talk about pre-interview nerves, which Jeremy believes is a positive because it shows that you care - the same goes for the live experience. Jeremy has had countless impressive guests appear on his show, giving us a quick rundown of several special episodes. The First Ever Podcast recently did a live episode that, no surprise, turned out to be a huge success.  This interview also switched over to the music side of things. Jeremy talked about bands collabing and how it's an opportunity to flex just how talented his friends are. He also gets into the reality of touring musicians giving up on their dreams and how being in a band was never a question for him. Jeremy also discusses the Touche Amore members evolving and how he realized early on that he needs to find ways to keep up. Lastly, Jeremy gets into his writing process and how his lyrics are almost always deeply personal. There are also plenty of other fun topics like Jeremy's appearance in the Weird Al movie, meeting Daniel Radcliffe, and doing the Run for Cover record selection - plus how his Revolver interview is the way I found the band Praise (a previous guest on the pod!).

Don't go into a Touché Amoré show expecting a gentle, easy listening experience. It's going to be emotionally quite brutal - both on and off the stage. Truth be told, fans of the band wouldn't have it any other way. It's due in no small part to vocalist Jeremy Bolm, who lays it all bare through the band's introspective, intense collection of songs. He's the kind of lyricist that people get tattoos of and the kind of frontman that will have people screaming in his face - so it's almost a surprise to talk to him in a state of calmness and tranquillity before a show at Sydney's Factory Theatre. Bolm has stories for days - this podcast could have probably gone on another couple of hours. For now, though, 45 minutes is plenty. Touché Amoré's latest album is Stage Four. When I began this podcast I would often get frustrated at how unsuitable my recording environments would be. Sitting down in a dressing room or tour bus, the perfectionist in me would get annoyed at odd sounds, like a refrigerator buzzing or traffic passing.I've learned to accept it as something of a unique feature of this podcast. There are other shows out there who can afford to ask their guests to come into a soundproofed studio or, hell, even just a room in a house, and those shows are great. Conversely, there's podcasts out there which conduct interviews over Skype, and I enjoy those too, but for me the DIY ethic is something I've always embraced in my journalistic and creative life. I think in the beginning I lost sight of that.I understand and accept that I'll probably never conduct an interview in a studio, so I've grown to enjoy the unpredictable nature of recording in the wild. A good conversation can happen anywhere at any time, not just in a studio. In fact, I've come to believe that perhaps because the guests feel more at ease in familiar surroundings, the interviews come across much more relaxed and open.Jeremy has always identified with that DIY punk ethos, and he talks a bit about this in the interview, mostly in relation to Secret Voice but also in regards to punk music more generally. It was great to finally sit down with the man. I've been trying to land this interview for a couple of years; firstly at Hevy festival in 2015 and then last year when they were in Scotland. He spoke about his love of Glasgow, touring, Secret Voice, Stage Four and so much more. It's a cracking wee chat if I do say so myself.Featured MusicIntro: David Szesztay – CombatMusic bed: Lee Rosevere - Planet DOutro: Blue Dot Sessions – InessentialI make no claim to the copyright of any of the music in this episode.Image credit: Noisey by Vice.
