Every week a special guest pastor will bring a message that will speak to your head and heart. Joy Graetz is part of the leadership team at Cornerstone Christian Church in Alderley, and in this message looks at how family, both now and in the past, has rarely been a picture of perfection. It's comforting to know that even in Biblical times, family life has been messy, but how did things change when Jesus was born into his family? And how should we respond when family does not look like what we expected? Hey there, welcome back to Special Education for Beginners! We're continuing our October series on writing IEPs that are clear, meaningful, and connected. Last week, on Episode 280, we talked about the PLAAFP and how it serves as the blueprint of the IEP. This week, we're taking the very next step: turning the needs you identified in the Present Levels into strong, measurable goals.Too often, IEPs end up with unsupported goals — goals that don't connect back to the Present Levels. In this episode, I walk you through how to avoid that trap and create goals that are directly linked to the student's needs, supported by baseline data, and easy for the entire IEP team to understand. Here's what you'll learn in this episode: ✅ How to highlight needs in the Present Levels and make them your roadmap ✅ Why baselines matter (and why I never start a goal at 0%) ✅ How to write goals that are ambitious but realistic, specific but not overcomplicated ✅ The importance of sticking to one skill per goal ✅ Why you don't need a goal for every single need — and what to do instead ✅ Tips for using parent-friendly language so everyone on the team understandsWhen your goals are aligned, the whole IEP feels purposeful and connected.

Real transformation is messy, painful, and rarely follows a linear path. Growth feels uncomfortable because it requires breaking through old limitations and embracing uncertainty as the doorway to your greatest potential.• Growth is not a straight line or a staircase but resembles a squiggly, unpredictable path• The ego craves certainty while real transformation thrives in uncertainty• Emotional tolerance shapes the pace of your growth—your ability to handle discomfort determines how quickly you'll transform• We're moving in spirals, not circles—each time you face similar challenges, you're approaching them from a higher perspective• Momentum is built in silence—real growth happens when nobody is watching• Setbacks and challenges aren't obstacles to growth but essential ingredients of it• The breakdown always precedes the breakthrough—your old limitations must break for new growth to emerge• Growth is a jungle gym, not a ladder—sometimes you have to move backward to ultimately move forward• The most beautiful transformations often look messy in the middle—just like childbirthIf you're finding value in these episodes, please share them with someone who might need to hear this message. In this episode, I chat with Tracey, a long-time reader and listener of The Happy Saver who first came on my radar through her detailed Debt Free Questionnaire in 2022. Tracey and her husband have reached what's known as Coast FI—meaning they already have enough money invested that, even if they never added another dollar to their investments, by the time they reach 65, it will have grown to their required amount. This gives them the flexibility to reduce their working hours in their self-employed HR roles if they choose. We dig into how Tracey got herself to this point and where she plans to take it from here. It's an interesting episode, with quite a bit of complexity, but I think it's a fascinating one, as this couple have independently and collectively created a lot of options for themselves. Tracey said she has had a “lumpy” journey, and that “there is no need to go anywhere in a straight line.” The key for her is that she is making progress. She is a firm believer in setting up an investment, making regular contributions to it, but not being afraid to make changes and do things differently as you continue to research and learn new information.

Why the blade pathway from crossover to catch is so different between the left and right hands. If you aren't going straight, three things to check. Timestamps 01:00 What generally causes difficulties? Beginner errors are straightforward to work out if these are affecting you. 1 - squaring late 2 - balance issues 3 - missing water at the catch 03:30 Know if you are going straight Look from your stern to the horizon and line up your stern with a fixed point (house, power pole, tree) and watch the wake off your stern. You can see if the vee is symmetrical. 04:30 Blade extraction - are the blades coming out at the same time and are you pressing down symmetrically? If one blade drags that affects the boat course. 05:30 Blade crossover - from extraction to handle crossover it's important the boat is level. The rig is left higher than the right - your handle heights have to reflect the difference in oarlock height. Ensure your hands are "nested" close together. 08:00 Blade catch - the handles have to be symmetrical around a similar arc from the oarlock so the tips of the blades are the same distance from the side of the boat. The right hand has to move a greater distance from crossover to the catch than the left hand. It's probably 2 cm greater distance. Practice the fine motor skills to make subtle adjustments to the handles using pontoon floats on a single scull. Your arms have to go out to the same distance at the catch (not the same handle height). Listen to the sound of the oars going into the water - you can hear if one oar goes in before the other, Want easy live streams like this? Instant broadcasts to Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn. Signature stories aren't just stories you tell a lot. They're stories you'd sign your name to. In this episode, author and speaker Melanie Deziel shares a story that went from nerve-wracking to heart-wrenching the more she told it, as she found ways to tell it her own way (and as new details emerged from the story).Mel is my cofounder in our Creator Kitchen membership, and this interview was part of the miniseries that helped me pilot How Stories Happen. The thing is, when you pilot something, you're often piloting THREE somethings, so we should rethink the ways we actually test, validate, and improve those somethings. That's a lot of somethings, but hey, this episode has everything. Or at least a handful of really freaking good somethings. We're putting on display the hidden details, tiny choices, and emotional moments, as we seek to go beyond telling stories to instead BECOME storytellers.RESOURCES:Learn more about Melanie at her websiteSubscribe to Jay's newsletter at jayacunzo.comJoin Jay and Mel's membership program for business storytellers and service providers, the Creator KitchenFollow Jay on LinkedIn, Instagram, or ThreadsProduced by Ilana NevinsCover art designed by Blake Ink***ABOUT JAY:ConsultingSpeakingContactBooksJay Acunzo is an author, speaker, and differentiation-and-thought leadership consultant on a mission to help you make what matters to your career, company, and community. By Darris McNeely in Cincinnati East, OH - September 28, 2024 - While we start our life as a disciple with all intentions of being faithful, sometimes life happens and we may take a detour. We may find ourselves in a ditch, stuck. We may go off on another path and stray from faith. We decide to travel a different road. That can have consequences. Solomon started with good intentions and then strayed. Ecclesiastes is a personal diary of his reflections and observations on the crooked road he took. How did he end?

As a personal development coach who works with parents, I'm particularly passionate about helping people navigate the major transitions in family life. Wether the transition that occurs in becoming parents or the one that occurs when a relationship becomes irreparable, these transitions create great opportunities for growth.  Believe me when I say that these lessons have been hard earned.   My first child came swiftly on the heals of my first marriage.  Not so surprisingly we failed to navigate the change of roles from partners to parents. Both of us feeling abandoned, neglected, and undernourished led to increased conflicts that eventually ended in divorce. It was undoubtedly the biggest failure of my life AND it also sparked my transformation from a grown child with a baby to a mature nurturing adult stewarding life.  In the aftermath of the divorce, I began to reflect on what went wrong. I realized that I had been blaming my partner for the problems in our relationship, rather than taking responsibility for my triggers and unhealed traumas. This realization was a wake-up call, and it was the beginning of my personal development journey.  I got involved with personal development and started leading men's groups, and it changed my life. I began to deepen my exploration of compassionate communication as well as taking a path of radical responsibility for everything that was showing up in my life.  I started applying these principles to my life and relationships, and it opened up a whole new world of possibilities. My second journey through marriage and parenting would prove to be far more successful.  Although a change in sexual identity would bring an end to our marriage, we continue to share a thriving relationship as compassionate co-parents and loving friends.  My two divorces were certainly among the hardest challenges I have faced in my life, but they were also the challenges that taught me how to truly hold and grow both a family and a life of purpose.  The clarity I gained and offer to my family and clients is what I call Inspirational Parenting.  This approach is about allowing the reflections of our closest relationships to become the guide for the growth most needed to create greater fulfillment.  From that place of fulfillment, inspiring others to meet me at my highest.  I can not change others but I can inspire their growth and if nothing else, I will grow in the process. Emily GoughEmily is a relationship coach, author of the book You Grow Me, speaker and host of the Room to Grow™ Podcast.
