Do you ever feel like you need to be funny to be liked? How do you handle pressure to always “perform” for others? In this candid, hilarious, and unexpectedly moving episode of On Purpose, Jay sits down with comedian, actor, and podcast superstar Bert Kreischer—famously known for his shirtless stand-up and his ability to keep audiences laughing nonstop. This conversation goes way beyond the jokes as Jay and Bert dive deep into the real stories behind the spotlight, revealing the layers of vulnerability, self-doubt, and emotional growth that make Bert more than just a party-loving comic. Bert shares what it was like growing up with a tough, old-school dad who believed in powering through pain and never showing weakness. That mentality helped shape Bert’s work ethic but also left him carrying emotional weight for years. In one of the most touching moments of the episode, Bert shares how a simple, unexpected conversation with his dad, while they were both high on edibles, changed everything, helping them finally see each other clearly and connect on a deeper level. With Jay’s thoughtful guidance, they unpack Bert’s real-life struggles with anxiety, chasing approval, and feeling like you’re never enough, things so many of us can relate to. Bert is refreshingly honest about his mental health, his parenting ups and downs, and what it's like trying to stay grounded while raising two sharp, hilarious daughters who aren’t afraid to call him out. In this interview, you'll learn: How to Stay Humble While Chasing Big Dreams How to Raise Kids Who Keep You Grounded How to Keep Showing Up Even When It's Hard How to Use Vulnerability as a Superpower How to Manage Anxiety Without Shame How to Turn Criticism into Growth How to Stay Grateful Through Every Stage of Success This episode is full of laughs, a few tear-jerking moments, and plenty of insight into what it really means to show up, be yourself, and keep going, even when it’s hard. Why the blade pathway from crossover to catch is so different between the left and right hands. If you aren't going straight, three things to check. Timestamps 01:00 What generally causes difficulties? Beginner errors are straightforward to work out if these are affecting you. 1 - squaring late 2 - balance issues 3 - missing water at the catch 03:30 Know if you are going straight Look from your stern to the horizon and line up your stern with a fixed point (house, power pole, tree) and watch the wake off your stern. You can see if the vee is symmetrical. 04:30 Blade extraction - are the blades coming out at the same time and are you pressing down symmetrically? If one blade drags that affects the boat course. 05:30 Blade crossover - from extraction to handle crossover it's important the boat is level. The rig is left higher than the right - your handle heights have to reflect the difference in oarlock height. Ensure your hands are "nested" close together. 08:00 Blade catch - the handles have to be symmetrical around a similar arc from the oarlock so the tips of the blades are the same distance from the side of the boat. The right hand has to move a greater distance from crossover to the catch than the left hand. It's probably 2 cm greater distance. Practice the fine motor skills to make subtle adjustments to the handles using pontoon floats on a single scull. Your arms have to go out to the same distance at the catch (not the same handle height). Listen to the sound of the oars going into the water - you can hear if one oar goes in before the other, Want easy live streams like this? Instant broadcasts to Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn. Signature stories aren't just stories you tell a lot. They're stories you'd sign your name to. In this episode, author and speaker Melanie Deziel shares a story that went from nerve-wracking to heart-wrenching the more she told it, as she found ways to tell it her own way (and as new details emerged from the story).Mel is my cofounder in our Creator Kitchen membership, and this interview was part of the miniseries that helped me pilot How Stories Happen. The thing is, when you pilot something, you're often piloting THREE somethings, so we should rethink the ways we actually test, validate, and improve those somethings. That's a lot of somethings, but hey, this episode has everything. Or at least a handful of really freaking good somethings. We're putting on display the hidden details, tiny choices, and emotional moments, as we seek to go beyond telling stories to instead BECOME storytellers.RESOURCES:Learn more about Melanie at her websiteSubscribe to Jay's newsletter at jayacunzo.comJoin Jay and Mel's membership program for business storytellers and service providers, the Creator KitchenFollow Jay on LinkedIn, Instagram, or ThreadsProduced by Ilana NevinsCover art designed by Blake Ink***ABOUT JAY:ConsultingSpeakingContactBooksJay Acunzo is an author, speaker, and differentiation-and-thought leadership consultant on a mission to help you make what matters to your career, company, and community. Have you ever killed someone? Most of us can say we haven't. But, have you ever been angry at someone? Most of us would say we have. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus begins to dismantle all human efforts we make to proclaim our own righteousness. He says that refraining from murder is good, but handling our anger righteously is what God really looks at.
By Darris McNeely in Cincinnati East, OH - September 28, 2024 - While we start our life as a disciple with all intentions of being faithful, sometimes life happens and we may take a detour. We may find ourselves in a ditch, stuck. We may go off on another path and stray from faith. We decide to travel a different road. That can have consequences. Solomon started with good intentions and then strayed. Ecclesiastes is a personal diary of his reflections and observations on the crooked road he took. How did he end?

Intro to Isaiah "Walking Isaiah's Straight Line to the Messiah" Blake Johnson August 18,2024 by Evangelical Fellowship Church
#161// Have you ever noticed that progress doesn't always follow a straight line? And yet, all of humanity is taught how to plan for progress in a linear fashion. Start with the desired outcome. Now figure out what steps need to happen in order for you to arrive at said outcome, and then put them all in order. Maybe now you add a time estimate for completing each step, and you then you figure out how long the process will take overall. Now you put it all in your calendar and get to work! But then, inevitably, something doesn't work according to the plan. Maybe one step takes longer than expected or another part doesn't work out the way you thought it would. You find yourself "off on a tangent" and, if you're like me, maybe you start to blame yourself for getting "lost" on what was supposed to be a simple journey from point A to point B. Have you ever been here?It can feel even worse if the project you're working on involves a God-promise. When we're working towards something we *know* we heard God say was up ahead for us, we can tend to get more overwhelmed and stressed out because, well -- "God SAID!"So how do we navigate the journey of pursuing a promise without losing hope or getting stuck (or quitting) along the way? That's what we're getting into on this episode of the Positioned to Prosper podcast. If you're ready to ditch the worldly mindsets that are overwhelming you and delaying your arrival so you can pick up the cadence of heaven for the pursuit of purpose in the Kingdom instead, this is your episode. Grab your Bible, your journal and a pen, and . . . Let's Go!WANT A LIST OF SCRIPTURES I MENTION IN THIS EPISODE? Lina Arboleda, law graduate pending for bar admission, has had a long journey to achieve her career goals in the United States. As an attorney in Colombia, coming to the U.S. and finding her way wasn't always easy or involving a clear pathway. Moving from ESL classes, courses at the local community college, having different jobs not related to her career, to attending law school at Pace University, she has covered a lot of ground. Now, as a staff immigration attorney (working under a supervising attorney) at the Lutheran Social Services in NYC she is instrumental in helping immigrants create their own pathway during a critical time in our nation's history. Brava!
I describe the way that one part of the Clicker Retrieve process ("Proofing the Hold Against Food") is a powerful tool for teaching a dog not to drop on exiting water. And I help a listener who wants to train both straight line blinds AND 'hunt it up' blinds.

Regarding endo access, on one side, the belief is that the priority is to be minimally invasive. The other notion centers around getting straight line access to at least the midpoint of all the roots in the tooth, which means, if we have to remove additional tooth structure to achieve this, so be it. So which one is it? Or is it both? Let's begin our discussion with our guest Dr Allen Nasseh. Dr Nasseh is a world respected endodontist who currently practices endo and lives in Boston Mass. As a personal development coach who works with parents, I'm particularly passionate about helping people navigate the major transitions in family life. Wether the transition that occurs in becoming parents or the one that occurs when a relationship becomes irreparable, these transitions create great opportunities for growth. Believe me when I say that these lessons have been hard earned. My first child came swiftly on the heals of my first marriage. Not so surprisingly we failed to navigate the change of roles from partners to parents. Both of us feeling abandoned, neglected, and undernourished led to increased conflicts that eventually ended in divorce. It was undoubtedly the biggest failure of my life AND it also sparked my transformation from a grown child with a baby to a mature nurturing adult stewarding life. In the aftermath of the divorce, I began to reflect on what went wrong. I realized that I had been blaming my partner for the problems in our relationship, rather than taking responsibility for my triggers and unhealed traumas. This realization was a wake-up call, and it was the beginning of my personal development journey. I got involved with personal development and started leading men's groups, and it changed my life. I began to deepen my exploration of compassionate communication as well as taking a path of radical responsibility for everything that was showing up in my life. I started applying these principles to my life and relationships, and it opened up a whole new world of possibilities. My second journey through marriage and parenting would prove to be far more successful. Although a change in sexual identity would bring an end to our marriage, we continue to share a thriving relationship as compassionate co-parents and loving friends. My two divorces were certainly among the hardest challenges I have faced in my life, but they were also the challenges that taught me how to truly hold and grow both a family and a life of purpose. The clarity I gained and offer to my family and clients is what I call Inspirational Parenting. This approach is about allowing the reflections of our closest relationships to become the guide for the growth most needed to create greater fulfillment. From that place of fulfillment, inspiring others to meet me at my highest. I can not change others but I can inspire their growth and if nothing else, I will grow in the process. Galatians, Galatians, Galatians. We've been in Galatians for months now—with even more to come. We love it, but we're okay with coming to an end soon. The main reason for how long this study has been is because of all the new scholarship Jay has been learning about this letter. Context is not only valuable, but it is needed. But it's tricky, because do we only like scholarship until it causes us to have to inspect our own faith and beliefs? Paul has always had his fair share of critics. Usually, these critics find that Paul and his message of grace is just simply people pleasing and just giving everyone the okay to sin. Jay at one point in his life was even told that he made Christ's death in vain—harsh words, yes, but it led him to finding Galatians and learning about grace. Is it people pleasing to dive deeper into the Bible and try to learn more about the faith you love and devoted your life to? Why do we have this need to constantly bite and devour each other? We used to do it in church, but now it seems like social media is where we do all of our biting and devouring. Why is this? Can't we find a common humanity with each other? Because after all what do we truly love when we say we love God? And who do we truly love when we say we love God? These are the real questions we should be asking ourselves, but instead we find devouring each other to just be easier, and apparently more rewarding. We should really, really stop doing that. This talk was given on April 21, 2024 from Seattle, Washington.www.facebook.com/revolutionchurchmnwww.revolutionchurch.com/donatewww.youtube.com/revolutionbroadcasting@jaybakker@revolution1994@revolution94 Hosted on Acast. As organizations continue to face fierce competition for talent, HR leaders have upheld internal mobility as a lever to retain talent, yet many employees remain unaware of the career opportunities in their organization. In this episode of the Talent Angle, Helen Tupper illustrates how championing squiggly careers — or nonlinear career paths — can deliver on the promise of internal mobility by giving employees relevant and engaging opportunities. By intentionally empowering talent to apply their skills across a diverse set of experiences, HR leaders can create meaningful careers for individuals while also serving the needs of the organization. Helen Tupper is the co-founder and CEO of Amazing If, a company with an ambition to make careers better for everyone. Together with her business partner Sarah Ellis, she is the author of two Sunday Times bestsellers: “The Squiggly Career” and “You Coach You.” Their “Squiggly Careers” podcast is the U.K.'s No. 1 careers podcast, and their TEDx talk “The Best Career Path Isn't Always a Straight Line” has over 1.5 million downloads. Helen also works as a trustee for Working Families, a U.K. charity with a mission to support families and caregivers with their work and life commitments. Prior to Amazing If, she held leadership roles for Microsoft, Virgin and BP and was awarded The Financial Times and 30% Club's Women in Leadership MBA Scholarship.
