Whether you sell it, close it down, or transfer ownership, it's going to happen—unless someone finds the fountain of youth and you hack the art of living forever! Too many micro and small businesses don't think or operate in a way that supports the big picture of their life. As a result, they miss vital opportunities to make wise decisions and investments that could potentially set them up for financial security long after their days of running the business are over. No matter how small your business is, you have to be thinking and planning for the future and your retirement. To help ensure you don't fall into the trap of thinking this is a problem for the future, I've invited Cliff Spolander, a business strategist and exit planner, to talk us through the various ways you can successfully exit your business (and exit does not always mean to sell). He'll share the steps you can and should be taking right now to ensure you're setting yourself up for success, not just now, but long into your future. Don't miss this crucial episode! Tune in to learn how to secure your financial future and make strategic decisions that will benefit you long after you've exited your business. I've never felt more exposed and vulnerable sharing any piece of content throughout my entire experience in business. The nudge to record this episode just didn't go away, despite my internal arguments and excuses as to why I didn't have to or need to record it. So I gave in. Despite the sweaty palms and stomach churns before recording, I don't think I've ever felt so at ease (and soul-level happy) as I did while recording this episode. My hope in sharing my testimony, my faith journey, my experience of finding God, and now my life walking with God is that it'll show the whole picture of who I am, and not simply the snappy success sound bites that fit in the box of marketing or 'ideal content'. I also hope it inspires thought and reflection for you. Whether you're already on your journey of faith or just beginning to explore, I encourage you to go deeper, to seek with an open heart, and to embrace the transformative power of faith. My clients will tell you that I'm always barking on about email marketing, and just how vital it is if you're serious about growing a healthy, sustainable and scalable business. I recently signed up for a mini-series all about email marketing that was hosted by one of the industry's biggest “coaches/teachers” on the subject (among other things like digital courses and webinars - that might give some indication as to who I'm talking about), and as much as I love and respect her, she made it all sound SO freakin complicated!! What ended up being an entire week of 60min+ trainings, could've SO easily been condensed into a single workshop and I guarantee would've enabled more to take action and actually start growing their lists, instead of sitting in total shock looking up at the 38794 steps they needed to take as taught by this “expert”. And it's this frustration that inspired this podcast episode! My speciality is making things as simple as possible when it comes to business because guess what - it really doesn't have to be complicated to be successful, in fact, the simple things are usually the most successful! So if you've got a lead magnet, or you're thinking of creating one (or maybe you have no idea what I'm talking about!) either way, I've got you covered as I walk you through exactly what your lead magnet's job is, how to know it's what your audience actually wants AND NEEDS, and how to actually get people to sign up for it so that you can GROW YOUR EMAIL LIST! —------------------- Here's the link to the ‘how to get started with email marketing' episode I mention: CLICK HERE Be sure to join me over on Instagram And join our thriving community The Mothers of Enterprise Society In other news… Got an idea for a business but not sure where to start? I'm so excited to bring you our very first guest podcast episode! So, what does it really look like to have an established business and then become a mother? We talk a lot about starting a business as a mum, but it's a really different ball game when you're already a successful business owner, and then have a baby. To talk about her experience navigating this I've invited Jess Sands to share what it's been like for her. Jess is the founder of the Milspo Business Network, host of the Independent Spouse Podcast, founder and designer at Design Jessica, and a fellow military spouse. In this episode, we get very real, open and honest about the reality of adapting to mum life with an established business (or businesses in Jess's case!) and dealing with the challenges of military life. Tune in to discover: What practical decisions Jess has made to allow her to be a present mum and still available to work in her business What does “work-life” currently look like for Jess and how she feels about it If reality met Jess's expectations of what it was going to be like being an entrepreneur and then becoming a mama What advice she would give her past pregnant self (this is golden ladies, you're going to want to listen in for this one!) In today's podcast birthday episode (keep reading to see how we're celebrating!) we're addressing the proverbial elephant in the room when it comes to combining motherhood and building a business = mum guilt. I'm done with us women weighing ourselves down with the constant nag of “I'm not good enough” or “I'm not doing a good enough job”... it's BS. This is exactly why I wanted to bring this conversation about mum guilt to the podcast, and highlight a few really simple ways that you can shift and reframe all those negative thoughts and feelings into something so much more empowering and liberating. I know you want to be there for your kids and provide a beautiful life for them. I also know that you've got your own dreams and ambitions that your soul is longing to pursue. But we can make ourselves feel non-stop conflict when we think those desires are mutually exclusive. YOU have the ability and power to create a narrative where they coexist in harmony, and actually SERVE each other, instead of detract. Where you get to fully show up and serve in your business AND be present with plenty of time flexibility for your family. In this episode, I'll be walking you through just how to achieve that, and I'm also being very open and honest about my journey of navigating mum guilt and the valuable lessons I've learnt in the past 10 years of raising babies and businesses. PLUS, in this episode, we're celebrating 1 whole year of The Mothers of Enterprise Podcast with a BIG giveaway!
So here's a fun fact: I've been building and growing businesses since before social media. And that little realisation got me thinking… how did I grow my business without social media? AND why's no one talking about OTHER ways to grow and market that are not based purely on a social media platform or requires social media in order to work (like lead magnets for email marketing)? So in this episode, I'm sharing exactly what I did (with real-life examples) to build my first business all the way back in 2008 (yes when the recession hit) and my second business that has nothing to do with social media. Do I love social media? Of course! But it's really not the only way to get seen, build relationships and create raving fans who love to buy from you over and over again. So join me as a take a little trip down memory lane to help get your creative juices going on ways you can be marketing your beloved business that DOES NOT involve voice-overs, dancing or anything to do with social media! There's no escaping the need to create content. And sometimes it can feel like there's no escaping the confusion, overwhelm and straight-up ‘I can't think of anything to say' writer's block that plagues so many when it comes to keeping up with the need to create and produce content. If there's one word I think we need more than ever in our businesses it's: SIMPLIFY. And this episode does just that for your content creation. If you ask yourself these 7 questions, you'll walk away with a long list of effective topics and content ideas to fuel your social media/blog/podcast/newsletters/live streams/reels/YouTube etc content for months. No this isn't the usual ‘choose your content pillars and go from there' kinda strategy, though nothing against that method, I teach it myself, but instead, here we're getting down to basics and helping you realise that you're actually a treasure trove of amazing content ideas, you just need the right questions to unlock them and them get out of that beautiful head of yours and onto paper… or your Google Doc. If you're done with feeling like business is a complicated maze with shiny new “experts” pointing you in a 101 different directions, you're going to love this episode. Something I've learnt in over 15 years of building successful businesses is that business can really be simple. Sure, there are many facets to it and a whole host of different ways we can go about it, but when you strip all that away there are a few very simple, very easy to implement ways of thinking and actions that can help you sell more today, and I mean today!... not after you've followed some 283 step program or gone through some mystical portal or vortex (see my episode on toxic fem-marketing for more on this!). So if you're ready to strip away the fluff, and equip yourself with the awareness, tools and knowhow to sell more and make more money in your business, then notebooks at the ready for this one as you're going to walk away with a host of new content ideas, mindset shifts and a totally new perspective and understanding of what it means to show up and sell to your people. For the first time ever, I'm sharing one of the most powerful exercises for uncovering those limiting beliefs that if left unknown and unchecked will keep showing up to sabotage you every damn time. These exercises are usually exclusively shared with my group coaching and private clients, but it seemed wrong keeping them gated as it's so transformative it truly has the potential to impact your success and plans for 2023 more than any goal setting method, strategy or hack out there! So keeping it for just an exclusive few didn't seem fair as I want everyone to realise their potential and smash their goals this year and beyond. I'm also breaking down how to use this exercise to create affirmations that are 100% tailored to you. No cookie cutter one size fits all list of temporary feel good affirmations, these are specifically tailored to address those newly uncovered limiting beliefs and fears to reprogramme or simply eradicate them. So journals at the ready for this one and let's dive into that beautiful subconscious of yours and create total clarity and confidence in all your goals and desires!
