In this episode of the Grow A Small Business Podcast, host Troy Trewin interviews John Ferguson, founder of Hobart Gutter Guard Co., shares his journey from working in community services to building a $500K lifestyle business. Starting as a side hustle in 2018, he grew the company through smart systems, clear SOPs, and delegation. By hiring a virtual assistant and automating operations, John reduced his workload to just two hours a week. After selling half the business, he now focuses on expanding the model across Australia. His story is a powerful example of how vision, structure, and marketing mastery can turn a small local business into a scalable success. Why would you wait any longer to start living the lifestyle you signed up for? Balance your health, wealth, relationships and business growth. And focus your time and energy and make the most of this year. Let's get into it by clicking here. Troy delves into our guest's startup journey, their perception of success, industry reconsideration, and the pivotal stress point during business expansion. They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? According to John Ferguson, the hardest thing in growing a small business is the isolation and loneliness that come with being a solopreneur. He explained that working alone – especially on tasks like marketing, sales copy, and SEO—can feel isolating because there's no one to share wins or frustrations with. That lack of daily collaboration makes it challenging to stay motivated and balanced while managing all aspects of the business. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? John Ferguson mentioned that his favorite business book that helped him the most is "Sell Like Crazy" by Sabri Suby. He said it's the best sales book he's ever read, providing powerful insights into marketing, sales psychology, and conversion strategies. The book helped him sharpen his approach to attracting and converting customers, which played a key role in growing Hobart Gutter Guard Co. into a highly profitable business. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? John Ferguson recommends listening to SEO and Google Ads podcasts to stay sharp on digital marketing, as these have been key in his business growth. He also listens to the Grow a Small Business Podcast and other interview-style shows to learn from real entrepreneurs' journeys. For learning, he prefers YouTube tutorials and audiobooks over formal courses, as they allow him to study while working or driving. Ferguson believes that consistent self-learning through podcasts and online resources is essential for any small business owner wanting to improve marketing, systems, and overall growth. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? John Ferguson recommends using a CRM and pipeline management tool as the most powerful resource for growing a small business. He believes having an all-in-one platform that combines lead tracking, automation, and communication can completely transform operations. Instead of juggling multiple apps, a single integrated system helps manage customers, streamline workflows, and improve response times, especially for service-based businesses. Ferguson credits this approach for saving him hours of manual work each week and making his business more efficient, scalable, and profitable. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? John Ferguson's advice to his day-one self would be to keep everything simple — from the business model and offer to the systems and operations. He believes simplicity creates clarity, reduces stress, and makes scaling easier. Ferguson explained that many entrepreneurs overcomplicate their processes with unnecessary tools and jargon, which slows growth. His biggest lesson is that a simple, repeatable system and a clear vision are far more powerful than a complex setup, and that focusing on doing the basics exceptionally well is the real key to long-term success. Quotable quotes from our special Grow A Small Business podcast guest: Keep your business simple, repeatable, and clear to create real growth — John Ferguson Freedom in business comes from systems, not endless hours of work — John Ferguson Success isn't about doing everything yourself, it's about building a process that runs without you — John Ferguson
In this episode of the Grow A Small Business Podcast, host Troy Trewin interviews Andy Gwynn, founder of Three Degrees Social, based in Málaga, Spain. Andy shares his inspiring journey from being a business coach to becoming a LinkedIn marketing expert, helping small business owners generate consistent leads and engagement through powerful digital strategies. He discusses how consistency, mindset, and leveraging technology have been key to his success, along with valuable lessons learned from franchising, scaling, and adapting to change. Andy's story is a great example of resilience, innovation, and the power of building meaningful connections online. According to Andy Gwynn, the hardest thing in growing a small business is mastering sales and marketing. Many business owners struggle to effectively promote and sell their products or services, even when they offer great value. Andy believes that consistent marketing, clear systems, and the ability to adapt quickly are essential for sustainable growth. He also emphasizes that as a business scales, systemizing operations becomes one of the biggest challenges, requiring strong processes to support rapid expansion and maintain quality. What's your favorite business book that has helped you the most? According to Andy Gwynn, the business book that has helped him the most is “The E-Myth Revisited” by Michael Gerber. He explains that it taught him the importance of systemizing a business so it can run efficiently without relying solely on the owner. Andy also recommends “The Business Coach” by Brad Sugars, which aligns with his coaching background, and “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki, for shifting the mindset from simply working in a business to building one that creates long-term wealth and investment opportunities. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? According to Andy Gwynn, some of the best online learning resources for growing a small business include ChatGPT, YouTube, and the teachings of Russell Brunson, especially for improving webinars and sales strategies. He also values using platforms like LinkedIn for continuous learning and networking with experts in different industries. While Andy doesn't host his own dedicated podcast, he frequently shares insights through interviews and training content under his company, Three Degrees Social, helping business owners master LinkedIn marketing and digital growth strategies. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? According to Andy Gwynn, one of the best tools to help grow a small business is LinkedIn, especially when used strategically for sales and relationship building. He recommends using advanced LinkedIn features like Sales Navigator to identify ideal clients, automate outreach, and maintain consistent engagement. Andy also highlights the value of tools such as ChatGPT, Xero for bookkeeping, Dashlane for password management, and GoHighLevel for CRM and marketing automation. Together, these tools help small business owners save time, stay organized, and build meaningful connections that drive sustainable growth. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? According to Andy Gwynn, the advice he would give himself on day one of starting out in business is to follow the system and get out of his own way. He admits that in the early days, he often let overconfidence and complacency lead to missed sales opportunities or inconsistent results. Andy emphasizes the importance of learning proven systems, sticking to them, and maintaining focus instead of constantly trying to reinvent the process. His key message is that success comes from discipline, structure, and trusting the process rather than relying solely on natural talent or intuition. DESCRIPTION In this episode, Jo & Vicky sit down to talk about – using systems in your business. On the surface this sounds like a boring subject, an episode you might be tempted to skip. But, when you invest in the right business systems and learn to use them well you end up saving a huge amount of time and money, which also greatly reduces your stress levels. Listen in to learn how to choose the right systems, buy them at the right time and use them in a productive way. KEY TAKEAWAYS A CRM system helped Vicky and Jo streamline their appointment management, automate reminders, invoicing, client sign up and more. The right CRM gives you an overview of each client, so you can target them with the right messages and products. Start simply, and when you are ready to scale, invest in the systems you will need to manage a larger customer base. The right CRM will improve your customer experience and ensure all leads are followed up on. Automating your social media is a huge win. Consistent posting builds trust and the algorithm loves it. Avoid shiny object syndrome. Only buy what you need and don´t waste time trying to learn the features you don´t need to use yet. AI tools like ChatGPT can become a strategic partner in your business. Jo explains how she has trained it and which version to use. AI is a great writing assistant. Don't overcomplicate your website. Bloat stops people finding what they need. Remember, human connection is still your most powerful business tool. Don´t automate everything, still make those personal calls, reply in person and comment. BEST MOMENTS “Business systems sounds really boring, but you know us, we're going to jazz it up. We're going to CBA it up.” “If you are serious about building your business purposefully, you do need to invest in those systems.” “That's where the systems really come in, because you do get a lot of time back if you use them appropriately, and it's at the right time in your business to use them.” “For A CRM system, our biased verdict is Keap. We do have an affiliate code that we can give you to get you a storming deal with them.” “I'm a big, big advocate of chat, GPT and AI.” EPISODE RESOURCES http://www.keapnow.com/canineplaybook SOCIALS AND IMPORTANT LINKS https://www.tiktok.com/@letstalkdogbusiness https://www.youtube.com/@LetsTalkDogBusiness Website www.caninebusinessacademy.com Community Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/caninebusinessacademycommunity/ Let´s Talk Dog Business Strategy Book - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lets-Talk-Dog-Business-Strategy/dp/1068791705 Email hello@caninebusinessacademy.com ABOUT THE HOSTS Meet Jo and Vicky! Harvard scientists fell for table-flipping séances while 8-year-olds saw through million-dollar magic tricks. The revelation? Your organization's most intelligent people systematically miss the most obvious solutions and risks —and this expertise blind spot is limiting every "intelligent" system we build.Stacy Alan, licensed therapist turned mentalist, and Jason Alan, master magician, reveal a counterintuitive truth: highly educated professionals consistently overlook simple explanations that children spot immediately. Their unique lens—combining clinical psychology with perception science—exposes how expertise creates predictable blind spots that limit innovation and increase risk in interconnected systems.Paradigm Shifts:→ The Expertise Paradox: Smart professionals focus on complex explanations while missing obvious solutions—the same bias that blocks breakthrough innovation in "intelligent" systems→ Instant Reality Revision: False perceptions can be implanted in minutes through repetitive messaging—revealing how quickly teams can lock onto wrong assumptions in collaborative environments. Complex market environments carry the same risk.→ The Back Row Principle: If your least technical stakeholder can't navigate your system, you've lost everyone—a design law from magic that could revolutionize innovation adoption→ Group Think Acceleration: Individuals abandon correct perceptions to align with group consensus in seconds, preventing teams from recognizing simple risks and solutions hiding in plain sightEcosystem Impact:→ Traditional innovation focuses on technical complexity vs. elegant solutions that educated professionals systematically overlook→ Magic's core principle: audiences accept complex premises while missing obvious methods—identical to how expert teams can miss breakthrough opportunities→ The "smarty pants syndrome": engineers, doctors, executives overlook simple solutions that 8-year-olds spot immediately because expertise creates predictable blind spotsThe Innovation: Two-decade field testing of human perception vulnerabilities combined with clinical psychology expertise reveals how collective reality can be architected—or weaponized. Welcome to another episode packed with insights, laughter, and brutally honest takes on what it's really like working behind the scenes of food innovation. Lucy starts us off by sharing why Stage Gate is close to her heart—yep, she's our resident “systems geek”—and Amy jumps in to champion the power of people and soft skills. Together, we break down how Stage Gate is supposed to be a framework that supports swift, safe, and high-quality product launches, not just another dreaded hoop to jump through. We explore why most folks in the food biz end up learning systems by osmosis rather than by proper training, and how the lack of clear, regularly reviewed processes leads to unnecessary pressure, repetition, and confusion—especially when every team seems to be stashing their own spreadsheet empire. We spill the beans on how they've helped businesses map out what's actually going on, often leaving people gobsmacked at the sheer complexity of bringing a product to shelf. The conversation doesn't shy away from the frustrations: outdated tech (“We're still using Excel from 1995, what's that about?”), squeezed timelines, and the struggle to get leadership onboard with investing in proper product development systems. We put a spotlight on the importance of soft skills and why junior and seasoned team members alike need better training and support—not just chucked in to ‘figure it out'.Listener questions spark discussion about AI's (potentially huge) role in freeing up time for the creative, human parts of innovation, and how vital it is to educate business leaders about making Stage Gate a business-wide priority, not just an NPD headache. In trademark Oh For Food's Sake style, the episode concludes with a call to constantly review systems, embrace new tech with open arms, and invest in people—because systems are only as good as the folks using them.Timestamps00:00 – Why Stage Gate is vital in the food industry00:54 – What Stage Gate is (and isn't)02:18 – Lucy's journey with Stage Gate + early food industry experiences04:25 – Why people and systems must work together05:23 – What Stage Gate actually does & where it goes wrong07:27 – Product development as the “gatekeeper” role08:24 – It's not just NPD's job: Why Stage-Gate is a business process10:07 – The chaos of poor systems: too many spreadsheets11:23 – The industry's slow adoption of technology12:45 – Workshop revelations: Realising the true complexity of launches14:25 – The knock-on effects of a broken process15:50 – What needs to change: Reviewing and modernising Stage-Gate17:23 – Making frameworks flexible and people-focused18:59 – Investing in soft skills and ongoing support19:28 – Embracing tech and AI as tools, not threats20:39 – Top takeaway: Systems + people = successful innovation21:30 – Audience questions: Leadership buy-in, off-the-shelf systems, AI worries24:54 – Training the next generation and the need for mentorship26:55 – Wrap up and calls to actionLinks and Resources:Website Link: https://ohforfoodssake.co.uk/FB Link: https://www.facebook.com/ohforfoodsakeLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/oh-for-food-s-sake/You can follow us here on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oh_forfoodssake/For industry consulting from Lucy, connect with her on Instagram or LinkedIn.Find her on Instagram or LinkedIn for further support with industry coaching and facilitation from Amy.Oh For Food's Sake is sponsored by Microsearch Laboratories https://micro-search.co.uk/ and Point 74 https://www.point74.co.uk/See you next time!
How do you grow a high-margin recruitment business without hiring a big team—or chasing every lead? And what happens when you go all-in on yourself, right before a global pandemic? In this episode, I'm joined by Jordana Matsos, founder of Higher Equity, who shares how she launched a solo sales recruitment agency with no prior agency experience—and grew it into a $500K+ business by being radically transparent, highly organized, and boldly direct. We discuss why blunt messaging often works better than polished sales talk, how Jordana systematized her entire operation to run lean, and the lessons she learned after scaling too quickly. She also shares how she created an online academy for job seekers, turning inbound candidate traffic into an additional revenue stream. Episode Highlights: [03:43] From sales leader to recruiter: Jordana's career pivot [11:16] Building the business: pricing, tools, and tech stack [14:28] Leveraging video and short-form content to attract talent [21:58] What went wrong when she scaled too fast [28:45] Creating the HireQuity Academy to serve job seekers [40:46] SOPs and templates that saved time and ensured consistency [45:48] Business development: blunt pitches, smart triggers, and warm referrals [58:30] Why transparency builds trust with both clients and candidates Blunt Messaging That Converts Jordana's “blunt honesty” approach is one of her biggest differentiators. She shares full job details upfront—company name, comp, and expectations—which earns her 55–70% candidate response rates. For clients, her pitch deck goes out in the first message, including fee structure and recent placements, eliminating unnecessary back-and-forth and building immediate trust. Systematizing Solo Success Coming from a corporate sales background, Jordana knew she had to create repeatable, efficient processes. She templatized everything—from client onboarding to follow-ups and outreach. Tools like Google Sheets, Taplio, Otter.ai, and Aspect helped her automate and scale as a solo operator. Lessons from Scaling Too Fast After a strong first year billing nearly $300K solo, Jordana hired a full-time recruiter, BD rep, and sourcer. But expenses skyrocketed, margins plummeted to 20%, and client relationships suffered. She course-corrected by downsizing, letting go of low-margin clients, and doubling down on her niche—bringing her gross margins back to 60%+. Creating a Revenue Stream with Purpose Unable to serve every candidate personally, Jordana built the HireQuity Academy—an online course that gives job seekers an inside look at how recruiters think. With templates, interview prep, and real-world advice, it helps candidates stand out—and gives Jordana an additional income stream without trading time for money. About Jordana Matsos Jordana spent 15 years leading sales teams before founding Higher Equity in 2021. She now helps companies hire high-performing sales talent while running the HireQuity Academy to support job seekers. Manufacturing stands at a crossroads, caught between technological opportunity and geopolitical uncertainty. Speaking with Augusto Vilarinho Head of Global Sales at Critical Manufacturing at APEX 2025, we dive into how manufacturers are navigating today's complex landscape while preparing for tomorrow's challenges. The contrast between European and American manufacturing approaches reveals fascinating insights. While European manufacturers demonstrate strong commitment to reshoring operations, their American counterparts show enthusiasm tempered with hesitation—waiting for tariff clarity before making major investments. This wait-and-see approach makes perfect sense when planning for sustainable growth amid shifting regulations. At the heart of modern manufacturing excellence lies the crucial integration between physical equipment and intelligent systems. As Augusto explains, "It's a time long gone where buying a new machine delivered a nice throughput." Today's competitive edge comes from contextualizing manufacturing data across operations, from supply chain to production floor. Critical Manufacturing's platform excels here, connecting disparate systems to create a unified view that drives intelligent decision-making.Perhaps most valuable is how advanced Manufacturing Execution Systems help navigate complex supply chain decisions. When choosing materials, the lowest purchase price rarely tells the full story. By capturing contextualized information about how different materials perform in specific machines under various conditions, manufacturers can make truly informed decisions that balance cost against efficiency and quality. This holistic approach transforms manufacturing from a collection of isolated processes into an integrated ecosystem optimized for excellence.Listen and explore how data-driven manufacturing is revolutionizing production across industries, and why those embracing these systems today will lead tomorrow's manufacturing renaissance. How is your operation adapting to these new manufacturing realities?EMS@C-Level Live at APEX is sponsored by global inspection leaders Koh Young (https://www.kohyoung.com) and Creative Electron (https://creativeelectron.com)EMS@C-Level is sponsored by global inspection leaders Koh Young (https://www.kohyoung.com) and Creative Electron (https://creativeelectron.com) You can see video versions of all of the EMS@C-Level pods on our YouTube playlist.

In this podcast, we spoke with Nainesh Shah, Sr. Application Engineer, Asahi Kasei Bioprocess America, about how inline buffer formulation and their MOTIV® system offers a more efficient, scalable, and cost-effective approach to buffer preparation. Traditional methods require large storage spaces, pose risks of leakage, and create inefficiencies that can disrupt production. In contrast, inline buffer formulation enables real-time mixing of concentrated ingredients, eliminating storage constraints and allowing for dynamic adjustments based on demand. With benefits like reduced waste, lower costs, and improved regulatory compliance, this technology is streamlining operations while ensuring precision and adaptability. As the industry shifts toward smarter manufacturing solutions, inline buffer formulation is paving the way for the future of pharmaceutical production. How Inline Buffer Formulation is Changing the Industry Nainesh, who has over 40 years in the pharmaceutical industry and six years at Asahi Kasei, highlights the evolution of buffer preparation. "Traditionally, buffer dilution involved a concentrate formulated in advance, which was then diluted with water to achieve the desired solution.” Modern inline buffer formulation transforms this process by enabling real-time mixing of individual components. "Instead of storing pre-made buffer solutions, MOTIV allows for real-time formulation using individual components. The system precisely combines these ingredients on demand, ensuring accuracy and eliminating storage-related inefficiencies," Shah explains. Enhanced Efficiency, Cost Savings, and Waste Reduction The advantages of MOTIV extend beyond storage and formulation flexibility. "With traditional methods, production can be delayed if pre-made buffers aren't readily available. If a change in concentration or formulation is required, additional time is needed for sourcing and preparation," Shah notes. "With MOTIV, you can use a single concentrated solution to create multiple buffer variants by adjusting the dilution ratio. This eliminates the need for multiple pre-concentrated stocks, reducing storage space, waste and increasing efficiency." Cost efficiency is another crucial factor. "Return on investment (ROI) depends on whether the facility has an existing buffer preparation setup or is installing a fresh system. For existing setups, ROI typically takes around two years due to transition considerations. However, for new installations, ROI can be achieved within 1.5 years," Shah states. He adds that Asahi Kasei provides an easy-to-use ROI calculator to help companies assess their financial benefits. Additionally, inline buffer formulation improves sustainability by minimizing waste and reducing the environmental impact of excess buffer storage. By eliminating the need for large buffer stockpiles, facilities can lower their material costs and optimize resource utilization. Scalability and Customization for Diverse Production Needs One of the standout advantages of the MOTIV inline buffer formulation system is its scalability. "Our smallest system supports up to 1,200 liters per hour with three inlets—one for water and two for concentrates like acid, base, or salt solutions. On the higher end, we can scale up to 5,000 or even 12,000 liters per hour, completely customizable with multiple inlets based on customer requirements," says Shah. This flexibility is particularly valuable for pharmaceutical manufacturers with varying production demands. Facilities producing multiple types of buffers can benefit from the system's adaptability, allowing them to switch formulations with minimal downtime. Instead of maintaining separate storage tanks for different buffer types, inline buffer formulation enables dynamic adjustments based on real-time requirements. Addressing Complex Formulations and Space Constraints MOTIV is particularly beneficial for high-volume buffer requirements and complex formulations.

This week we chatted to Leire Ruiz Estebanez- International Project Management Officer at GreenSync - https://greensync.com/ To discuss all about the latest phase of the AAR project and what is going to be achieved! The Automatic Asset Registration (AAR) provides an opportunity to digitalise the energy system. AAR was initially conceived by the Energy Data Taskforce and the Energy Digitalisation Taskforce who called for ‘the coordination of Asset Registration' of Low Carbon technologies. The 2021 Smart Systems and Flexibility Plan and Energy Digitalisation Strategy outlined how government and Ofgem will deliver the flexibility and innovation needed for a Net Zero energy system. The Energy Digitalisation Strategy included work on the Coordinated Asset Registration strategy for smaller scale assets (such as solar panels, electric vehicles, battery storage and heat pumps, which typically require registration by an installer). The Strategy outlined how government will work with industry to streamline the registration process for small-scale assets to improve data collection and therefore improve the visibility of these assets on the system. The AAR programme is made up of 3 Phases: Phase 1 – Feasibility studies Phase 2 – Development Phase 3 – Pilot testing -https://es.catapult.org.uk/what-we-do/ Here at installHUB we're very pleased to be apart of the project helping to capture all data sufficiently so everything can be recorded and processed correctly to show a true reflection of the projects success.

In this podcast from the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute (SEI), director Paul Nielsen talks with principal researcher Suzanne Miller about how the advent of smart systems has led to a growing need for effective collaboration and cross-pollination between the disciplines of systems engineering and software engineering.
Because 40% “of greenhouse gas emissions come from the built environment,…one has to take an integrated look at the built environment to look at how people live, work, and play. But also integration in the sense of understanding how transportation systems fit into that, how urban design affects the efficiency of how people live, how communications networks play, and then ultimately supply chains because people need things.” Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson on Electric Ladies Podcast The new infrastructure funding and Build Back Better plan moving through the Senate provide funding to address various aspects of buildings, transportation, broadband and more, to upgrade our communities, while also reducing their carbon footprints. But Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, President of the revered Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute says we need to look at them as an integrated system. (She's also the first black woman to earn a PhD in PhD. from MIT.) Listen to Dr. Jackson explain how this new concept of place can serve us so much better in this fascinating interview with Electric Ladies host Joan Michelson. You'll hear about: How that built ecosystem works Why the integration is critical for both the community as an ecosystem and for the planet How their new Institute of Energy, the Built Environment and Smart Systems will affect our daily lives. Why they believe an interdisciplinary approach is critical, including design What impact covid had on their Institute. Plus, insightful career advice …. “I think one has to start with the idea of not letting others put a lid on you….Be who you are…. You have to be who you are because that centers you, and that can be the source of your confidence to take a risk in order to move into something different…. (And) think about, ‘what do I want to accomplish in the next three months against the larger picture?'” But you also have to compete and to compete, takes confidence.” Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson on the Electric Ladies podcast Read Joan's related Forbes articles here too. If you've watched the news recently you might think the real story is about which billionaire will take the first ride in space, or beat his competitors to Mars. Sadly, the media's focus on the billionaire space race overshadows the truly important space innovations that will affect us all here on earth. Until recently, satellites delivered into space by rockets were the epitome of ultra-high-tech tools available only to the most privileged governments and corporations on earth. Today, orbiting satellites are a critical component of global communications not only in emerging markets but everywhere that users need continuous connectivity. The networks they help create play a huge role in the value created by Smart Systems and connected equipment. Use cases such as mining, railways, oil and gas involve remote situations that are off the normal cellular grid and yet still require reliable communication. In fact, network services for mission critical markets and applications will probably eclipse $100 billion by 2025. For this episode of the Future Perfect Tech podcast, we sat down with Joel Schroeder of Intelsat, which operates the largest, most advanced satellite fleet and connectivity infrastructure in the world. Joel is Director of Land Mobile where he's responsible for building and executing the market, product and partner strategies that will enable Intelsat to deliver portable and mobile satellite services across the enterprise and mobility vertical markets. Prior to joining Intelsat, Joel was vice president of business development for Inmarsat's connected car program, and in his career before that he focused on internet of things and tele-systems technologies. Joel's experience in emerging markets on several continents led him to understand the impacts of gaps in connectivity as well as the cost and bandwidth constraints that customers from industry to telemedicine feel across the world. Hør mere i vores podcast. By now in your hunting career you've probably used a game camera or two. As hunters we use game cameras to scout and gather information about deer movement. Game camera pics can be deceiving though, for multiple reasons. For example, there could be a huntable buck in the area that just won't come to the camera. Or, perhaps we get a picture of a buck, but the reason we think he's in the area might be relative to something completely different from what we thought. Scientifically these examples could be considered a false negatives and a false positives. Using a multiple camera system and gathering data points connected to weather might be a better approach to determining when to hunt. However, keeping track of data when using more than a couple cameras can be daunting and without keeping statistics correctly the degree of error goes up when determining the true pattern. That's where Deer Lab comes into play. Deer Lab takes game camera picture information thru photo recognition and time stamps and marries that content with external weather data to help you determine statistically the best time to hunt a target. In other words, Deer Lab can efficiently determine what's in the picture and then couples the time stamp to weather points like wind speed, sunrise, sunset, barometric pressure, visibility, humidity, and moon data. In this episode of Hunt Tech Part III, we dive deep with Jon Livingston of Deer Lab to figure out how Deer Lab can help you uncover all the data and information that a game cam picture holds, well beyond just an image of your target buck.
