Episode 56: GONE WITH THE WIND We've got a big one for you this week. One of the most popular, controversial, and discussed films of all time, Gone With the Wind has without a doubt made an indelible impression on movie history. Coming at the peak of the Hollywood Golden Age, it's a grand and epic saga based on the Margaret Mitchell blockbuster. We did into the movie itself and its complicated legacy in this, one of our longest, episodes. Vivien Leigh stars as Scarlett O'Hara, a strong-willed Southern Belle in the years before, during and after the American Civil War. Clark Gable is the scandalous rouge, Rhett Butler. Also starring are Olivia de Havilland, Leslie Howard, Thomas Mitchell (no relation to Margaret) and Hattie McDaniel, who made history as the first person of color to win a competitive Oscar. This movie won Best Picture for the watershed year of 1939. It ranks #14 on our countdown.* Spoiler Alert: We talk about the movie in its entirety, so if you haven't yet seen it, check it out. Or not. That ball is in your court. Come back next week for our discussion of The Silence of the Lambs. *What is this list? We explain it in more detail in our Trailer and its Description, but as a high-level answer: we aggregated several different lists that rank the ninety-four winners of the Best Picture Academy Award in a rough attempt to get a consensus. It is not intended to be rigorous or definitive. It's just a framework to guide our journey through cinema history.

Paul's life was tortuous shortly after his 8th birthday and it was all at the hands of his mother, but she pays dearly. Does Emma Jean get what she deserved or was her punishment too harsh. Read This book: https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Peace-Novel-Daniel-Black-ebook/dp/B003BQZ83O/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= As seen on TikTok, Daniel Black's Perfect Peace is the heartbreaking portrait of a large, rural southern family's attempt to grapple with their mother's desperate decision to make her newborn son into the daughter she will never have—“a complex, imaginative story of one unforgettable black family in mid-twentieth century Arkansas” (Atlanta Magazine). When the seventh child of the Peace family, named Perfect, turns eight, her mother Emma Jean tells her bewildered daughter, “You was born a boy. I made you a girl. But that ain't what you was supposed to be. So, from now on, you gon' be a boy. It'll be a little strange at first, but you'll get used to it, and this'll be over after while.” From this point forward, Perfect's life becomes a bizarre kaleidoscope of events—while the rest of his family is forced to question everything they thought they knew about gender, sexuality, unconditional love, and fulfillment. “A morality tale of the consequences of letting our selfish needs trap the ones we love into roles they weren't born to play. The characters here are as flawed, their sins numerous, as any living human being held under the lens, but the author brings a compassion and understanding to their plights.”—Mat Johnson, award-winning author of Invisible Things “Part cautionary tale, part folk tale, part fable, Daniel Black's Perfect Peace is a complete triumph…In Emma Jean Peace, Dr. Black has created a character as complex, equivocal and unforgettable as Scarlett O'Hara.”—Larry Duplechan, Lambda Literary Award-winning author of Got 'Til It's Gone Your Book Bae Awaits at theblackgirlbookclub.com Join the Black Girl Book Club Podcast Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/theblackgirlbookclubpodcast Join the Black Girl Book Club Podcast Email list: https://www.theblackgirlbookclubpodcast.com/theblkgrlbcpodcast-6136 Listen on Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-black-girl-book-club-podcast/id1627300394 Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6Q87PbQrzipKr94oD2TroY?si=058c003a9a8b41aa Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCr4fs600LEYfN3pgKVHe1yw This episode is brought to you by Just Write Sis, the authors organization solution. She talks about dealing with food and eating more; the eating disorder voice; looking at the eating disorder in its present context and function, rather than getting lost in the past; her dislike of food diaries; finding the ‘grey' rather than an ‘all or nothing' mindset; dealing with feelings that emerge in recovery; thoughts on body image and finding your voice and self-acceptance. SCARLETT O., 6min., USA, Horror Directed by Alexandra Tebano, Dale Johnson A tortured woman is stuck in the purgatory in her own mind forced to relive the same excruciating moment over and over again. Get to know the filmmakers: Alexandra: I had found this script again, after years of sitting with it, and it still resonated so much with me. I had realized a lot of the same thought patterns and neurosis was still there, and I felt compelled to make it as the ultimate purge of these emotions and feelings. It felt that if I could really make it this time, I could. Dale: My main motivation as executive producer was to support Alexandra who wrote it, acted in it, co-directed it and co-produced it. Elaine Lessig: “Fashionista” Passionate About Dog Judging Judge and self-proclaimed “fashionista” Elaine Lessig joins host Laura Reeves to share her passion for dogs and dog judging. Lessig started her purebred dog journey in the 1980s with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels before they were recognized by the AKC. Today she judges the toy, sporting and non-sporting groups. “I love (judging),” Lessig said. “But I'm smart enough to know that I don't want to judge everything. Every breed has its detail and I think coming from toy dogs was a distinct advantage. Every toy dog breed is a boutique item. I don't look at sporting dogs as retrievers and pointers and spaniels, they're each a unique breed and I think I bring that detail into it. “I have no other reason to be here than I love what I do and it gives me so much pleasure. I am not a professional judge in terms of this is not my income. I don't have to go out and judge. I'm very happy doing just my three groups. This is a passion. It isn't a product. “I love to see the connection between whoever it is that's handling the dog and the dog. I think the dog is better with somebody that they have that wonderful relationship with. I think they perform better. I'm looking for a show dog on those days and then I want to see a dog in good condition. Conditioning is everything here. I'm most offended if you bring me a dirty dog. “You have to take your losses and you have to put your losses in the loss pile. When you have a chance, you can get them washed and cleaned up again, but you can't dwell on those things because tomorrow is another day, said Scarlett O'Hara. I won't get negative about this. I refuse to do it.” Known for her fabulous wardrobe and keen sense of style, Lessig shares memories of Sandra Goose Allen, meeting https://puredogtalk.com/captivate-podcast/david-fitzpatrick-on-pekingese-the-palace-dogs-of-peking-pure-dog-talk/ (David Fitzpatrick's) Pekingese Malachy the night he arrived in the US and celebrating after the team won the Garden in 2012. Scarlett O'Malley brings the energy and enthusiasm of youth combined with a wealth of musical knowledge way beyond her years. Born and raised in West London but now making her mark around Europe, she is a new breed of DJ doing things on her own terms. Her tireless passion for the scene has made her one of online radio's busiest talents. She is well known and respected for interviewing legends and trailblazers with a uniquely down-to-earth but probing style on stations like Foundation FM and Whynow radio and she has a monthly residency with The Vinyl Factory. She also hosts and produces her own Youth Club podcast which merges her passion for music, history and subculture. She runs her own party and mix series The Soul Exchange. "I wanted to head to the later, darker and slightly heavier side of the club with this mix. Think 4am in a sweaty corner of Corsica! I love house music with all my heart, especially early 90s house music and a lot of the tunes in this mix stems from those early sounds, there are acid overtones in a lot of the music and that underground tribal sound. A house mix in its entirety, there are also breaks and a little techno touch with a ton of groovy basslines in tow. Heavier music with soul!" Artist: @scarlett_omalley

Paradise Loops is a groove infused mix series aimed to provide a backdrop of balearic, anthemic and nostalgic sounds on those sun-soaked glory days. If you've been keeping your eye on London's clubbing scene since the re-opening, then no doubt you would have seen Scarlett O'Malley's name plastered pretty much everywhere at the moment. The in demand DJ, founder of The Soul Exchange, Radio Station Manager at whynow and resident on Foundation FM has been smashing it lately, and with the clubs in mind, Scarlett has provided a killer mix that's dancefloor centric. It's a bit of a different vibe to the usual, but my god we're so here for it. "This mix is pure house heaven and a real reflection on what tunes I have been feeling since the clubs have been reopened. Real house stompers, of course with some disco melodies and big soul vocal influences with two of my favourite artists ever Whitney and Mariah in there. I really love all the tunes in this, a mix to get a sweat on to on the dance floor! I must give thanks to DJs like OK Williams, Helena Star, TDunn, Amaliah and Eliza Rose for keeping the house feels alive, being my DJ inspirations and constantly putting me on to absolute belters!" - @scarlett_omalley Tracklist: Trevor Rockcliffe - Visions Of You Galaxy 2 Galaxy feat. SHOW NOTES: On this show….we will be releasing guilt. Are you tired of feeling guilty for feeling guilty? You aren’t alone. We’ve all done something we aren’t very proud of, disappointed someone, and let ourselves down. Carrying shame and guilt can be a full-time job that prevents you from realizing your true potential. I wish we could just let go of what doesn’t serve us in a positive way but let’s be honest, it is not that easy. The first step is awareness, then understanding, and then if you are good and ready...the releasing. When do you feel those guilty feelings creeping in? Sometimes they can grab you in the pit of your stomach and say “hey...are you forgetting something?” and you are back to square one. Reminded of everything you’ve done wrong instead of what you’re doing right. Catching yourself before you start to spiral means you can change direction. “Nooooo...I haven’t forgotten anything BUT I did forgive myself and today I’m working on myself and staying stuck in the past, where I don’t have the control to change anything, it’s helpful! So back off!” MADISYN TAYLOR reminds us that ...There is freedom that comes with awareness, because with it comes the opportunity to make a choice. Fatin Khan, gives some ways to work on self-awareness: If we are concocting the right recipe for a change in behavior then we have to add a dash of willingness. No one can want the change more than you. Sure, your family can plead with you concerned about your well being. Your partner can beg you to let go and move one. But all the self-help books, motivational blogs, and inspirational quotes won’t be enough to make it happen. You have to be open and willing and wanting something more. I found The Definitive Guide to Guile from Dr. Susan Krauss Whitbourne : Guilt Cause #1: Guilt for something you did. Guilt Cause #2: Guilt for something you didn’t do, but want to. Guilt Cause #3: Guilt for something you think you did. Guilt Cause #4: Guilt that you didn’t do enough to help someone. Guilt Cause #5: Guilt that you’re doing better than someone else. Our feelings are important and what directly impacts the quality of our lives. For too many of us, feelings have been cast off and or shoved done so we can maintain a normal appearance to everyone around us. But unlike Scarlett O’hara, not everyone can afford to push these feelings off for another day. It’s important to deal with your emotions today and understand where your power to change comes from. So is shame the cherry on top? As if guilty feelings weren’t enough, we have to add shame to the mix to tighten the chains and keep a positive future a little further from our reach. Dr. Neel Burton sheds some light on Shame and Guilt in an article he wrote for Psychology Today. ...Shame and guilt often go hand in hand, which is why they are so often confused. For instance, when we injure someone, we often feel bad about having done so (guilt), and, at the same time, feel bad about ourselves (shame). So let’s add a little control or lack of to the pot. What can I do NOW to control the situation? Since we’ve established the obvious, I have no control over the past then the only place I do have control is in the present which will predict the future. Better butter up the forgiveness because that’s the only thing standing between me and the completion of this dish. I have to forgive to move forward. I love the perspective of Darlene Lancer in her article 18 Tips to Overcome Guilt and Forgive Yourself. Here are just a few of her suggested tips: If you’ve been rationalizing your actions, take responsibility. “Okay, I did (or said) it.” Write a story about what happened, including how you felt about yourself and others involved before, during, and after. Analyze what were your needs at that time, and were they being met. If not, why not? Forgiving yourself is not forgetting. There is learning and growth in forgiveness. You have more chapters to explore and being encumbered with the past will just derail your journey. CHALLENGE: Don’t dismiss your emotions or allow negative feelings to rewrite your destiny. You have the power to walk through guilt and shame, understand your role and responsibility, evaluate your control, and let go so that you can move forward with the freedom to realize your true potential. I Know YOU Can Do It!
Please be aware the stories, theories, re-enactments and language in this podcast are of an adult nature and can be disturbing, frightening and in some cases offensive. Listener Discretion is advised – there is very adult content ahead and you have been warned. Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained. I’m your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the weird, wonderful, unexplained, eerie, scary and down-right unbelievable. There will be tales of ghosts, murder, supernatural beings and unexplained mysteries. So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, relax and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma.... And on today’s Dark enigma I got an email asking why I never do stories about where I live, so we’re looking into a story close to my home here in Georgia. So, with that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. The choice of libation is yours, so choose your poison accordingly, now since we’re talking Georgia, might I suggest some moonshine… Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say Georgia that will be a single shot and every time I say Lanier, that will be a double shot and for a bonus listen close for my very best Scarlett O’hara impression. Now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma… and the Mysteries and Death at Georgia’s Cursed Lake Lanier Some places in this world seem mysterious to the point where they almost seem to be beyond the comprehension of mankind. There are mysteries in these places that defy any attempts to explain them, and the very soil and water itself here seems to reverberate with some evil force that pervades its very being. These mysterious places seem to draw death, misfortune, and the bizarre to them like a magnet, and if there are indeed cursed places in this world then these are them. One such enigmatic place can be found nestled within the rolling, verdant foothills of the northern mountains of the U.S. state of Georgia. This is a locale that has long been associated with strange phenomena, weird creatures, and most sinister of all, a large number of inexplicable deaths and unsolved murders. This is the cursed lake of Georgia.

You wouldn't believe what God asked me to do - and in the middle of a good melt down too! I have fun this week comparing my life and myself to the one and only Scarlett O'Hara and letting you know how God help change my perspective when life was getting me down.
Egal, wir wissen ja: "Tomorrow is another day." Regie: Helmut Petzold. Redaktion und Moderation: Judith Heitkamp.
Nothing worth having comes easy and this is very much true for Scarlett O’Connor - the FIRST EVER competitor from NFMUK to win a Atlas PRO title. How did Scarlett become a Atlas PRO champion in 18 months after her first ever show? How did Scarlett bounce back after missing out on a ticket to America TWICE? What was Scarlett’s game plan in Oklahoma City?

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Movie & TV Star, Morgan Brittany, Dallas' “Katherine Wentworth”About Harvey's guest:Today's guest, Morgan Brittany, is a highly popular actress, author and political commentator who first won our hearts as a child star in the role of “Baby June”, Natalie Wood's sister, in the classic 1962 movie "Gypsy". She was also one of the schoolgirls in the classic Alfred Hitchcock film, “The Birds”. And a few years later, she played one of the kids in the blended family parented by Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball in another classic movie, “Yours, Mine & Ours”. As a child, she also appeared in “Gunsmoke”, “The Twilight Zone”, “Daniel Boone”, “Lassie”, “Dr. Kildare”, “The Andy Griffith Show”, “My 3 Sons”, and dozens of other iconic TV shows. And as an adult, she's had an even more spectacular career. She's perhaps best known for her portrayal of the beautiful and conniving “Katherine Wentworth” on the super-popular primetime drama series, "Dallas". And of course, we also remember her as the ambitious magazine writer “Kate Simpson” on “Glitter”, and she's also appeared in many other great TV shows and movies including “The Amazing Howard Hughes”, “The Initiation of Sarah”, “In Search of Historic Jesus”, “The Dream Merchants”, “Mothers and Daughters”, “Legend of the Spirit Dog” and “LBJ: The Early Years”, for which she won a Peabody Award. And get this: she's the only actress to have portrayed the legendary Vivien Leigh THREE TIMES – first in 1975 in the classic film, “The Day of the Locust”, then the following year in the feature film "Gable and Lombard", and then in 1980 in the TV movie "The Scarlett O'Hara War". Our guest has also been a highly sought-after political commentator as part of a series called “Politichicks”, and she's co-authored 2 bestselling books, "What Women Really Want", and "PolitiChicks: A Clarion Call to Political Activism", which features a compelling collection of essays from many of the writers and activists featured on the PolitiChicks.com website.
