According to reports, more than 350 million tennis and padel balls are produced annually worldwide, with over 95% of them ending up in landfills or being incinerated. What many don’t realise is that these balls take up to 400 years to decompose, creating a long-term environmental burden. The production of new balls also relies on non-renewable resources, further exacerbating their impact. Now, a bold new sustainability-focused non-profit initiative, Amazeballs, is tackling this challenge head-on by upcycling used padel balls into innovative furniture and art pieces. With South Africa’s padel industry growing rapidly, boasting over 773 courts at 256 venues, the environmental footprint of discarded padel balls is only increasing. Amazeballs aims to repurpose these materials into functional, aesthetically striking pieces, ensuring that the sport is not just trendy but also sustainable. What's The Movie About? Tensions rise when an exotic dancer and religious protester are trapped together in a peep show booth and must come together to survive the apocalypse in 1980's Chicago. One word to summarize this interview: AMAZEBALLS! Caito's talent in this movie is nothing short of being paramount. With her choreographing her own dance scene to improvising her lines in the movie, I cannot say enough about her. Revealer is definitely a colorful and visually stunning film with the deep colors and references from H.P. Lovecraft, who we all know is the father cosmic horror. I would lie if I said that I didn't enjoy the movie because it's such an amazing movie with great filmography, acting, and the dialogue, the perfect trifecta of any film. What else is there to say about Caito Aase? The fact that she is in this movie should be enough to justify anything under any circumstance. If you don't like this movie, then there is something wrong with you. Just kidding. It may not be for everyone but I did enjoy it all the way through.

She has gathered a team of all-stars — from sourcing experts to material scientists - and leveraged her own business experience working at startups and Fortune 500s to help “slow fashion” clients get on the path to fashion sustainability. Recloseted is the first one-stop consulting agencies for sustainable fashion brands. They launch and scale sustainable brands and help existing apparel brands become more environmentally friendly. Selina knew she wanted to start doing her part in changing the world after breaking out in a vicious rash while wearing a polyester shirt (poly is made of OIL, eeew) and doing some research which led her to some devastating truths behind the production of garments. Do your best, and fill your own cup first. When you give to yourself (Moms!), you have more to give to your kids, your family and your job. Do not feel guilty if you cannot be the perfect person to others - or to our planet - every minute of the day. Because, sorry Boo, you cannot. Try to figure out what ‘sustainability' means to you. How can you incorporate thoughtful environmental practices into YOUR life? Not your nosy neighbor's life. Not the fake person on Instagram's life. Not your BFF's life. YOUR life. Want to take a deep dive into the story of the fashion industry's harmful impact on our planet? Go watch The True Cost – a documentary. It's tough love, but if you are interested, check it out. (Holly and the Podcast team are too chicken to watch, but they're gonna do it anyway.) Be imperfectly perfect. The issue of fashion sustainability, as well as all environmental causes, can be overwhelming. But with small baby steps, we can at least work toward being more intentional. FACT CHECK: Holly reminds us here that we need to have a Style Plan. You don't go to the grocery store and just pick one of everything, do you? Um, no. You have a meal plan for the week, and you only buy what you need. Only. Buy. What. You. Need. In addition to what you buy, pay attention to where you buy. Shop local and shop small. Vote with your wallet. The big box stores do not need your money (uhm, think Jeff Bezos. Just no!) Entrepreneurs and small businesses do. They really, really do. (Hot Tip: If you find a creator or designer online that you love, be sure to purchase their items directly from their own website versus 3rd party sites like Etsy.) What does “Fashion Sustainability” really mean. For Selina, it means “balance.” How do you balance your lifestyle while still taking care of the planet? Find a way to live with more intention. The choices you make every day, big or small, can add up to make a difference. There are many fun and easy fashion sustainable efforts you can try: Host a clothing swap with friends where you drink wine and trade clothes and accessories. Super fun!!! Go thrifting with your girlfriends one weekend. Even more fun! Invite friends over to help you clean out and organize your closet! Fun, with champagne! Don't indulge in retail therapy, aimlessly buying things you don't need to make yourself feel better. You will not feel better. Start with just one item. Decide you are going to buy one pair of shoes from a sustainable brand next time. It's literally that easy. What does “Greenwashing” mean? Don't be fooled by appearances. As you start looking for sustainable brands, be aware of something called ‘greenwashing'. Many brands promote themselves as being earth-friendly, but in fact, they may only have one product that fits that description in order to market themselves a ‘sustainable' brand. #dontfallforit Think of the grocery store again: many items say they are organic or gluten-free…. But are they??? Brands marketed with social or health benefits sell better, so, just make sure who you buy from is legit. “When companies invest more time and money on marketing their products or brand as “green” rather than actually doing the hard work to ensure that it is sustainable — this is called greenwashing.” How does a company like Recloseted help fashion companies become better at being sustainable? Selina's group offers various consulting package for new brands – giving all the fashion and the business information they need to be a sustainable company. They tell brands to put their clients first and be strategic and intentional with their products. For instance, instead of buying another sweater. Be intentional and buy from a smaller brand that's more versatile: maybe it can still be worn despite your size changes, or maybe the fabric is transitional for more than one season. Recloseted shares viable production mills and fabric sources, helping brands use fair labor and best practices supplier all over the world. And what is sustainable junk? Is that like space junk? Well, yes. It is. Brands should not make or sell products that check-off all the sustainability boxes if there is no market for the item. This is where brands need to put their customers first: are you producing items that people really want or need? So, even if it is totally green, if no one wants it, they've just made junk. Brands need to instead solve “pain points” or the areas where customers are frustrated and need a solution. Cleaning and care of your wardrobe. When do we know when it's time to let something go? Selina and Holly are of one fashion brain on this one: If you keep your closet clean and organized, you will aways know what you have. Routine clean-outs keep the chaos away! Do your clothes still fit? Do you still love your items? Maybe you could swap with your friends. Just make sure to give your clothing as much life as you can before you finally decide on discarding. Whether you're just starting out after college or grad school, or you've been in your career for a minute, your style should be evolving with your age.” And, if you're not? You are stuck. The Top 5 Style Blocks: Financial: Afraid to spend money, always looking for sale items and cheapest styles Closet Chaos: If you don't know what is in your closet, you don't know what fits, what to wear, what is out of style. You have so much stuff, you don't know what you have. Emotional or Guilt: Feeling like you need to invest in other things for your home, your family and your finances. Stuck In a Style Rut: You have not evolved your style. If your age, weight or the decade has changed, you need to update your style to look and feel your best! Putting Yourself at the Bottom of the List: When you put yourself last, you have less to give to your family, your job and your friends. “When you deplete from you, you deplete from them, because you are the shining example that they see every single day.” – Holly Katz So now that we know we need to wear pants every day, and how to break free of the style blocks that cause us fashion anxiety, here are some style tips for what to wear to the workplace this summer. (Before we get started, head over to Holly's latest Pinterest Board to see all these recommendations): Try a front-slit ankle pant. They pair well with sandals and low heels, and make sure which ever pant you purchase, stretch rules. At a certain age, a pant with a little bit of stretch will change your life. Color is in! Color blocking with bright-colored blazers, a neutral pant and a little top is a sure conversation starter – and completely classy. The Midi-Skirt is a skirt that hits under the knee, and halfway down your shin. Wear this skirt with a super cute pattern and then rock it with some sneakers and a vintage T-shirt, and then throw on a beaded or jeweled denim jacket or cardi, so when they crank up the A/C they can't freeze you out of your workspace. Puff-sleeve dresses are the perfect fit for many of us. This dress can be easily dressed up to go from office to dinner out with just a quick change to a strappy shoe and a fun clutch! And finally, the summer weight sweater! This is style perfection and great for summer when you need a step up from your favorite tee and then you can layer it under a lightweight jacket or a printed scarf for fall. Wear them with a chunky necklace or statement earring. They also go great with a colored jean and platform sandals. Amazeballs! You know Holly loves nothing more than hunting down new designers for y'all, and this week, we have a super-fun and super on-trend designer with us on the show: Lindsay of Made By Keeper! This “Designer Spotlight” episode shines on Made By Keeper, who creates ice dye and reverse dye fashions. If you don't know what that is – then, helleeerrrr...that is why WE are here! #duh #youarewelcome Designer Lindsay has been tie-dying everything she could get her hands on since she was a kid – using things like Kool-Aid and avocados, and just about anything with a strong, stainable color. (Her mother must have just LOVED that!) “I was always a creative kid. I would rather be in art class (or theater) instead of any other class. It wasn't until I was much older that my interests broadened to more than what I could learn in a classroom. One thing that always stuck was my love for the abstract. I've never been one to be symmetrical - could never draw a human form that looked right or a bowl of fruit that was lifelike.” “Be a Fruit Loop in a bowl of Cheerios!” - Linsday, Made By Keeper Anyway, Holly and her husband - and of course Schmutz The Wonder Doodle - were walking on the West Side one day, and found Linsday at a street market in 72nd Street all decked out in the most AMAZEBALLS tie-dye from head to toe – so of course Holly had to learn more. Holly fell in love with Lindsay's tie-dyes (remember, she IS the best fashion friend you never knew you needed), especially the ultra-cool jogger sets, dog hoodies and adorable sets of kitchen towels and napkins. How great would those be as a summer house-warming gift!? So, we invited Linsday to the show to tell us all about the art of tie-dye, her creations and how she started her own woman-owned business. #bosslady #brandbestie Fashion Crime Fact: The crime it here is not wearing tie-dye, or too much tie-dye. The crime is not taking the time to appreciate something different, and not supporting women-owned small businesses, especially lesser-known artists and creators. We love supporting women-owned small businesses! We love to shop small. We love creative people in the fashion industry that are doing good in the world. And by the way? These are not your Jerry Garcia tie-dyed T-shirts, folks. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but different animal entirely. First, you should know that there are many styles and processes of tie-dying. Lindsay takes us through some of them from the traditional Batik and Shibori, to the techniques she uses which are ice dyes (yes, with ice) and reverse dyes. New Bestie Alert! ‘Tis the season of giving, and we have some serious SOUL FOOD for you this week as we welcome a LIFE-CHANGING designer who gives back to the world with her tomato-forward brand Project Paulie, and new retail store called All Together Now. Did you know? Not only is Holly “The Best Fashion Friend You Never Knew You Needed,” but she is also on a mission to hunt down and highlight women-owned fashion brands and businesses and bring them into the spotlight, because let's face it: Who Runs The World? GIRLS! #duh #beyonce This week our Designer Spotlight is shining on Nicky Bandera of Boston. Nicky tells us that her passion is to make things that comfort people physically as well as emotionally. The emotional aspect is the fact that she believes in providing a huge “give back” to the world. What does it mean to have a brand with a purpose? And, why does her brand feature a bright, red, shiny tomato? Well it all started during the COVID-19 crisis when restaurants and restaurant workers, especially undocumented workers, were being devastated by the severity of the national lockdowns. Nicky, her husband and her daughter started cooking. And they decided to make meals featuring a family tomato sauce that ultimately fed 5,000 people a day for 150 days. And because she is a designer first, she also started putting an embroidered tomato symbol on knit hats and sold them to raise money for related charities. She changed the color of the hats so that each color would go to a different charitable organization. Most of them were local charities in Massachusetts, and about 1/3 were national charities that everyone would know, like No Kid Hungry, and No Us Without You. See a list of some of the charities they support here. How fabulous is that! Amazeballs. Now they have a variety of wearables featuring the tomato, and it has just gone crazy because people are always going to ask: “What is that tomato all about?” It's on shirts, camo jackets and anything else in the store that you can customize. You can get as crazy as you want with their rainbow of thread colors, fonts, monograms, names or cuss words using their special chain-stitch machine. Giving. Me. Life. Chain-stitching is something that only a few people in this country do. And the reason is because the machines are from the 1900s - and no one can fix them. Her team must be able to fix and troubleshoot anything that happens with them on their own. The result is a beautiful and high-quality product, as much as it is a brand doing good. #WinWin Nicky now collaborates with other brands, designers and artists and sells a variety of items in a brick-and-mortar store called All Together Now in Boston, MA. Here she features a ton of fun and unique items like beanie hats, robes and military jackets - and combines them with patches and chain-stitching so customers can customize their items. SO FUN! Hey, hey, hey, it's a Holly Solo Mini Series as she joins us this week with a Nashville Trip Wrap Par-tay! Did you know she went to Nashville last week to mix and mingle with Podcast People? Anyyyyyway: Holly packed her suitcase, full of Styles by Nolan, and she was totally ready to KICK ASS in Nashville at the recent Podcast Movement Convention. She needed to have her stylish self ready for long-ass presentations, photo ops, AND, a dance party with Quest Love as the DJ, y'all! Because of all the stuff we told you in the LAST EPISODE, you should know by now that you can't just pack everything in your closet for a trip. READ THE ROOM, People! This week, Holly is so happy to report that 1.) She did not overpack 2.) Her carefully planned outfits worked out perfectly, so she was confident at each and every event and 3.) Her new YSL shoes ripped her feet a new one with raging blisters. BUT, she did look AMAZEBALLS in her Saint Laurents. #duh Holly's first adventure into Podcast Convention Adventureland was steeped in uncertainty and anticipation. But, her actual experience turned out to be the BEST DAY EVER DOT COM! Holly tells us that met a SHIT TON of new besties. Podcast People are not basement trolls and are some of THE NICEST PEOPLE she has ever met. Being a podcaster is hard work, and so it was really great to compare notes and share sob stories with some of the best in the business. The best part? I mean, A-May-Zing.” [1:05] “I felt great, I felt like I looked great, I got a lot of compliments, because I felt confident in the clothes that I had really fit me well and reflected my personality. So there you go. So let's go over that, again, I felt great, and what I was wearing, because why? Because the clothes that I had fit me really well and reflected my personality.” [1:20] “I have a lot of new work coming up: all very different people, with the exact same problem: fashion and style is hard for them. It's too much work, and they don't know where to start. So they call me Yay! Really good on them! I mean, honestly, it takes a lot of guts to admit that you need help with something that you're not familiar with. And, then you reach out to the experts. In this case- that would be me!” [1:35] “And for that convention, we're going to be broadcasting live and recording, because I'm going to her house next week. We are going to be taking pictures we're going to be doing videos, we're going to be cleaning out her closet. So stay tuned for that, because this is going to be an episode that you do not want to miss. Jessica is fun, funny and a hot mess all rolled up into one. But don't worry, Boo! The Holly Train is about to roll in on that one. It's going to be amazing. I'm going to be ripping her new one, pumping her up, building her up. Jessica has got great style. She just needs a little help. It's all good.” [1:50] “I do want to say another reason why my outfits were so successful at the convention is because I did not overpack. I was not confused with a lot of choices because I already decided what I was going to wear each day and night. So I did not have a choice to like screw that up. I had to go with what I packed. And the most major packing mistake that most people make is just packing too much.” [2:10] “I mean, for example, my new besties, Erica and Jamila from the podcast “Good Moms, Bad Choices.” I am not afraid to admit I am totally in love with them. They have a cannabis and sexuality podcast where they talk about all things that they need to make them better moms, like sex and pot. I love them and I went to their breakout session. I mean, I literally stopped them in their tracks and talked to them about their clothes because they looked so great. And of course they're from LA. So, they were super fashionable. We hit it off immediately. Love Them!” [2:40] “I'm going to conclude with the fashion crimes that I did indeed see, which I would like to report were not from the convention. But, they were people that I saw at the airport, the Nashville airport. And don't worry, I have pictures of all these people.” [3:05] “My friend and I have always talked about fashion and fashion crimes. We always say look, if your house is on fire, what is your go-to? What is the outfit you're going to put on to run out of the house? Is it pajamas pants? No, it's not. I'm probably gonna throw on some jeans and a T shirt. And a bra maybe, it probably depends on how much the house is really on fire, grab some tennis shoes and run. I'm not going to grab my pajama pants.” [4:05] “I mean, she worked hard on this and everything did go together. But it was just a little fucking wackadoodle for the Nashville TSA line. But that was just my only complaint about her. I couldn't decide if I loved her or if I hated her, but I just thought she was unusual. And I did appreciate her being eccentric. I did get that, but we could have worked that outfit out a little bit better. But you know, again, I noticed her and she was definitely podcast worthy.” [6:00] “But you know, those are the fashion crimes that I did see. And you know, it was a little scary. I'm not going to lie, but I lived. I worked it out. I loved it and I always enjoy. My favorite thing to do is to sit in the airport and people watch because people are dressed so terribly or they look great, or they look completely normal and fine. But what I've always wanted to do since I started my styling business, I've always wanted to set up an airport booth, like one of those kiosks next to the information booth, and give out free fashion advice because, dammit, people need that, especially in the airport.” [8:30] “Let's reconvene next week while I will be at the podcast in the Queens home of Miss Jessica Kupferman, going through her shit, throwing it away, keeping the best of the best, making her look like a frickin' supermodel and I'm uncovering the beauty queen that she is, while really ripping her a new one, ‘cuz it's all right.
