In this episode, Jordan welcomes Erin West and Andrew Austin to discuss the human aspect of pig butchering scams. Erin is leading the charge in education, prosecution, and victim advocacy in the complex world of pig butchering which is a combination of a romance and cryptocurrency scam. Law enforcement struggles with handling cryptocurrency crimes due to the complexity and evolving nature of the scams. The need for better victim support systems and education to help the public and local authorities recognize and prevent scams. And so much more! Fraudology is presented by Spec. Join us at MRC in Las Vegas and mention code word FRAUDOLOGY at booth 306 for your secret Spec swag.In this special live recording from the MRC event, Karisse Hendrick brings together a group of six merchant fraud fighters to share their experiences and insights from the "Superbowl" of fraud prevention (the annual MRC conference in Las Vegas) in the ever-evolving world of e-commerce. -AFTER 5 full days & nights of information-sharing, collaboration, and fun, these 7 fraud-fighters share some of the highlights of their week...until, admittedly, getting a little "hangry".
Fraudology is presented by Spec. Join us at MRC in Las Vegas and mention code word FRAUDOLOGY at booth 306 for your secret Spec swag. For online fraud-fighters who have been in this industry for more than a decade, we've seen a lot of big changes in the 3rd-party vendor landscape. New technology innovations and additional needs of the buyers, along with a great deal of venture capital funding, have ushered in a lot of new vendor companies, and a lot of competition. In some cases, this competition is important, and in theory, should keep solution providers investing in R&D and continuous innovations to keep up with new fraud tactics & schemes. But what if a new person joined the industry with a lot of experience & knowledge of fraud technology, but who had never been on the e-commerce merchant side? What would their experience & impressions of this sometimes overwhelming & overly competitive space be? How can they even identify who has the best technology if they all say similar things and claim to all work with the same companies? This has been the recent experience of Andrew Austin, Sr. Manager of Fraud Technology at CarMax. After his great conversation with Karisse on Tuesday about his background & an overview on some of the challenging aspects of the auto industry from a fraud perspective, Andrew returned to discuss his experiences with third-party fraud technology solutions and some of the good, bad & the ugly experiences he has had with salespeople for various solutions in the fraud & identity space. Karisse & Andrew also talk about the biggest challenges in the vendor selection process today, while emphasizing the importance of genuine customer relationships and tailoring solutions to each's merchant's needs. They also delve into the process of assessing opportunities, questioning assumptions, and cutting through buzz-word-filled presentations to get to the heart of how problems will be solved (w/o much, or any impact on legitimate users), when evaluating potential fraud prevention solutions. Overall, they stress the need for organic conversations with knowledgeable representatives and avoiding one-size-fits-all solutions in favor of solutions tailored to the specific merchant's needs. This episode is a great one for everyone in sales to listen to, but also merchants as Andrew provides some great tips and a few relatable "horror stories". Fraudology is presented by Spec. Join us at MRC in Las Vegas and mention code word FRAUDOLOGY at booth 306 for your secret Spec swag.On this episode of Fraudology, Andrew Austin, the Senior Manager of Fraud Technology at Carmax, shares his unique career journey & how it prepared him for his current role, overseeing fraud product/technology for the first & largest omnichannel auto dealer in the US. Andrew also talks a bit about creating a "mission statement" for his role, and how it aligns with his company's mission statement of providing an "iconic customer experience". He also provides a good overview of the most common fraud issues impacting the auto industry, especially those around identity (from the 2 different types of synthetic fraud to identity theft), and how the US makes detecting identity fraud much more difficult than other countries. Additionally, Andrew emphasizes the importance of providing "targeted friction" (versus "blanketed friction") and creating customized experiences for different customer personas. Andrew will be back on Fraudology for Thursday's episode, where he & Karisse will talk a bit about a merchant's experience being the target of so much vender attention pre-MRC, provide some "do's & don'ts" to fraud tech salespeople, and Andrew will give a great analogy for the different kinds of "shoppers"/buyers there are when selecting fraud technology for their companies. Filmmaker Andrew Austin (THE POWER OF GLOVE) boards the Video Monsters airwaves to talk about the Stephen King miniseries with the flying meatballs that, like, eat the past or something. It's THE LANGOLIERS (1995), from director Tom Holland! Nathan flies solo on this one (get it? because they're on a plane) because Eric and Dan fell into a hole in space-time, I guess? I don't know guys, it's hard to muster up an enthusiastic description to something as tedious as THE LANGOLIERS, unless you're Nathan making up some nonsense about how it's secretly a soap opera satire or something. Anyway, enough editorializing from description-writer Eric. Grab your passport, shred some paper, meet us at the Bangor airport, and maybe watch TIMEKEEPERS OF ETERNITY instead of this mess? The Chattanooga Film Festival was held virtually this year on 5/22 - 5/25. Despite the obvious limitations of not being able to attend a film festival in person, the Chattanooga Film Festival did an amazing job of translating the festival experience into a virtual format and we, once again, had an amazing time watching films and interacting with fellow film lovers! The change in format this year did have an impact on how many films we were able to see (Nathan was able to watch more while, unfortunately, Eric was not able to watch as much), which in turn had an impact on our coverage. So, while we were not able to cover every single film we saw in as much depth as we would have liked, Andrew Austin and Mark Covino have joined us once again to provide an overall view of the entire fest. Anyone who has listened to the podcast for even just a little bit knows that we like having a theme for our episodes each month (whether or not we are able to always stick to that theme is a different story...but, in general we like themes). The theme for April was supposed to be Chattanooga Film Festival coverage, but (like everything else) it had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, as one of our ways of coping with the current situation, our theme for the next several episodes (excluding the History of Cinema episode for the 1940s) will be movies related to disease/outbreaks/pandemics/etc. There will be four different kinds of movies that we plan to cover within this theme: 1) Directly related to disease/outbreaks. 2) Undead (zombies, vampires, etc.) - since practically every film about the undead (in part) involves fear of diseases. 3) Movies that capture the theme/tone, but not directly related to disease or the undead. This is where disaster/apocalypse movies would go. 4) Movies that don't really have anything to do with any of the above, but are just movies that we enjoy that help us temporarily forget about the current situation. So, kicking off this impromptu series is a double dose of The Crazies (both the 1973 & 2010 versions). And what better way to discuss The Crazies than with a couple of our favorite crazies, Andrew Austin and Mark Covino!! And if you've ever listened to one of the episodes with Mark and Andrew, you shouldn't be too surprised that things do, in fact, go a bit off the rails on this crazy train... In tonight's episode, special guests Andrew Austin and Mark Christopher Covino join the Video Monsters (well, one of them at least...) to discuss the Frightening Ass Film Festival, presented by the Chattanooga Film Festival! Along with discussing the films we saw at FAFF (some we all absolutely loved, and some we had some differing opinions on), we go way off topic several times...so, you know, a standard Video Monsters episode! As a reminder, we are rolling out gradual updates with our rebranding as we continue to provide new episodes. The main focus of the rebranding will be an updated name, logo, and theme music for the podcast. There might be a few other minor additions/updates as well and there might be some things that go through multiple updates (for example, there will be a temporary change to the theme music as the official music is being worked on) as we move forward. Be sure to follow us on social media to stay up to date as we go through this rebranding process. music by bensound.com

falling down the NES rabbit hole with director Andrew Austin!
Andrew Austin is running for Committeeperson in the West Passyunk area of Philadelphia as a Republican. We spoke to Austin about running as a Republican in the deeply-Democratic Philadelphia, and why he feels the "marketplace of ideas" is important for our local democracy.
In this episode hosts, Drs. Ryan Martin and Chuck Rybak, talk with Sociologist, Dr. Andrew Austin, about violence in society and people's reactions to violence and anger within society.
This time around we welcome Andrew Austin into the house. Andrew has been a psychotherapist since 1994 and authored the best-selling book "The Rainbow Machine - Tales from a Neurolinguist’s Journal", which has drawn comparisons to both Robert Anton Wilson and NLP co-creator Richard Bandler. Andrew also has a lifelong interest in magick and mysticism. He’s an ordained minister for The Church of Subgenius, 2nd degree initiate in the Ordo Templi Orientis, trainee member in the Builders of the Adytum, member of the Order of Oddfellows and The Masonic Philosophical Society and the Chief Executive for the Order of the Historia Illius Itineris International. Hope I pronounced all that right. Andrew has developed a bit of a different approach to psychotherapy. He’s combined his interest in magic and mysticism with psychology and neurolinguistic programming to offer clients an alternative to the numbing, ineffective pharmaceutical prescriptions we all love to hate. And that is the basis for our chat here today. It’s a rather productive conversation that touches on psychotherapy’s religious structure, psychedelics, NLP, Solomonic evocations and Andrew’s disdain for New Age-y spiritual and healing practices. So if you’re about to do a chakra cleanse, maybe tune that part out. But the rest you should absolutely tune in for. This one’s dark. We’ve got a guest in the house who writes under the name Blood Ritual Monarch. We’ll be chatting about a couple of books he’s written based on his experience with the occult and perhaps some experience he’s had with government-funded mind kontrol programs. BRM is speaking to us from his own personal experience of occult study and practice, which led him to some really fuckin’ weird experiences with demon evocation and sexual possession, and there’s also an aspect of mind kontrol in here that we flesh out quite a bit. But, per usual, let’s open our minds and approach this with a heroic dose of discernment, and let’s cast this pod off onto the other side of the veil, where Baal, Paimon, Beleth and their 69 friends are anxiously awaiting our arrival. Guests April Putney, Campaign Manager for Move King County Now and Statewide Policy and Advocacy Campaign Manager for Futurewise, and Andrew Austin, Policy Director for the Transportation Choices Coalition, speak with Diane Horn about Proposition 1, a measure to support a King County Transportation District with a $60 per year license fee and .1% sales tax to help fund Metro bus service and county road safety and maintenance.
Andrew Austin stops by from Americans for Transit (twitter: @A4Transit) to share some impacts of the government shutdown and how it fits in with the ongoing austerity culture. We learn about transit diversity, labor issues and the BART strike, and review why it's critical for transit agencies to support their employees and maintain a positive work environment. That means listening to employees and riders, such as by hosting town hall meetings on buses. Later, why smaller cars, electric cars, self-driving cars, personal rapid transit and other pretend solutions fail to move us forward. The real solution is to dismantle car culture but these things promote it and leave us further from the sustainable places we so desperately need.Check out my latest Streets.mn article critiquing the backwards transit planning process that has led Minneapolis to consider building an expensive rail line in a low-density corridor instead of improving mobility where actual needs exist. Moreover, what are we trying to accomplish here? That’s the first question a transit planner or advocate should be asking of any proposal. I’m afraid we’re doing it all backwards. ... From the very start we have asked not “How can we improve our transit network?” but “Where should we put our next rail line?” That makes no sense.See some facts on Metro Transit. I also mentioned two existing routes that are due for capacity upgrades: TranksLink 99 B Line bus rapid transit, Vancouver, BC. (episode 23 and/or capacity post); MBTA Green Line light rail, BostonWhy good health care depends on transit, courtesy of previous guest Scott Bogren (CTAA). Daniel shares his thoughts on a new bus route making its only stop at a major university in the largest North American city without any public transit. Enjoy the show?
