At BNC#7 in Hermanus, the UK's largest-ever political funder (of Brexit), Arron Banks, delivered a hard-hitting keynote on political disruption. He criticised South Africa's political status quo, argued that a reform movement could upend the ANC and DA, and highlighted Trump's unorthodox but effective leadership style. Banks also explored the geopolitical chess game between the US, China, and Russia, predicting a major shift in Africa's global influence. With topics ranging from economic nationalism to artificial intelligence, his speech painted a picture of a world in rapid transformation. Following his keynote speech, Arron Banks engaged in a candid Q&A session with BizNews founder Alec Hogg, addressing a range of topics with his characteristic directness. The discussion touched on the evolving political landscape, the role of media, and the impact of Brexit, while also delving into business, governance, and international relations. Banks provided insights into key challenges facing the UK and offered his perspective on navigating political and economic uncertainty.

Entrepreneur Arron Banks shot to prominence during and after the UK's 2016 Brexit Referendum, where financial support for ‘Leave' made him the country's largest-ever political donor. Later that year, Banks and political ally Nigel Farage were Donald Trump's first foreign visitors after the returned US President's first shock victory. In this fascinating interview with BizNews editor Alec Hogg, Banks explains why South Africa is key in the Trump Administration's strategy to address global political imbalances, cautioning about likely consequences from the ANC's doubling down in its tug of the Eagle's tail feathers. He also shares his SA connections; the spectacular growth of Farage's Reform Party (now leading UK polls); and a long-running R150m fraud case against the South African miner who hosted Ramaphosa at the RWC. Banks will speak about Trump and SA at BNC#7.

The Reagan Revolution and “greed is good” remain in full swing, ushering in a level of wealth inequality that surpasses the Gilded Age.  "Progressives, especially, must recognize that pres erving constitutional freedoms depends on winning the fight for economic liberties. Treating them as separate goals will ultimately mean losing out on both," writes Caroline Fredrickson, the former president of the American Constitution Society, the Democrats' answer to Leonard Leo's Federalist Society and his $1.6 billion war chest. You've probably never heard of the American Constitution Society, because they haven't been as effective. In September, Fredrickson wrote a damning piece for The Atlantic explaining why, taking herself and other Democrats to task for packing our courts with corporate-friendly judges under recent Democratic administrations, including the current one. It seemed enough for Democrats that a judge was a woman, nonwhite, and cared about protecting reproductive healthcare. As a result, for decades, our courts have become a rubber stamp for rolling back regulations and defying antitrust laws. Even the Biden-appointed antitrust Elizabeth Warren protégé Lina Khan, chair of the Federal Trade Commission, has been powerless against the corporate defenders packed on our courts. Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Jesse Eisinger of ProPublica, author of The Chicken Shit Club: Why the Justice Department Fails to Prosecute Executives, explains that to undo the Reagan Revolution, prioritize appointing judges who will uphold antitrust laws and protect unions. To be true allies to women and nonwhite people, who are harder hit by economic downturns, fight for economic justice as the foundation for social justice. The Democrats need to get clear on that and respond with a robust judicial appointment strategy immediately, while there's still time.  This week's bonus show, available for our listeners at the Truth-tell level and higher, will feature questions and comments from our listeners at the Democracy Defender level and higher. Hello! We've got a Some Dare Call It Conspiracy extra portion for you here.. this is a blogcast that Neil recorded a while ago and it's a bit of an interesting one. At the time Neil was still dangling his feet in the conspiracy world quite heavily. At that time, the EU was considered in the conspiracy narrative, the worst thing of all time. It was a stepping stone to the New World Order, it was tyrannical, imposing all sorts of laws on us and making our lives particularly hellish. During this journey, Neil discovered that wasn't particularly true. So the interesting thing about this blogcast series, is how at the beginning Neil is pandering to the Conspiracy audience whilst actually finding information from the conspiracy influencers to not be true. It also includes Mind Control, Manipulation Programs, Media Manipulaition, Think Tanks, The Oil Industry, stolen elections and all the stuff that should have appealed to the conspiracists, but in this case, didn't at all because it didn't fit their narrative. This is the story of Cambridge Analytica, a true conspiracy largely ignored by the conspiracy crowd. —---- Some Dare Call It Conspiracy is produced entirely by Brent Lee and Neil Sanders. Dithering on the Edge of Europe

Ursula von der Leyen’s agenda for the European Commission. This is a big chapter and - we fear - a long episode. The last chapter (and last of our episodes on v.d.Leyen’s political guidelines) is all about democracy; about securing our democracy and safeguarding our European democratic electoral processes, which of course is very fitting as the UK’s political parties have gone all out for their own general election campaigns with various stories already emerging about referendum validity, foreign interference and manipulation of the electorate.  Rich and Carola try desperately to not get hung up too much on UK’s election news, which with all the gaffs coming out from all sides is admittedly rather tempting. But they cover the proposed Conference of Europe, attempt to fill out a questionnaire about the European Union (link to online questionnaire below), discuss the value of the civil service and then Rich has a rant about Carola calling the Westminster parliament the mother of all parliaments and finds a more fitting likening in a doddering great-great grandmother with hearing aids and challenged with mobility.  Moving away from Brexitland’s inability to move in any direction, they have a bit of fun quoting from an article that discussed what happened with the Spitzenkandidaten-system, but written in the form of a murder mystery. Be prepared for many suspects and many culprits as the reasons why the Spitzenkandidatsystem failed this time around has quite complex contexts. This will hopefully be resolved during v.d.Leyen’s tenure, as laid out in the last paragraphs of the guidelines of v.d.Leyen, who has promised to resolve and pin down ways the European Union will select its leaders in the future.  Main Source Ursula Von Der Leyen: Political guidelines for the next Commission (2019-2024) - "A Union that strives for more: My agenda for Europe" 16 July 2019  (pdf English Version (https://ec.europa.eu/commission/sites/beta-political/files/political-guidelines-next-commission_en.pdf) ) Coverage about expense scandals related to Nigel Farage BBC (04/06/2019): Nigel Farage refuses to attend EU hearing into Arron Banks cash (www (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-48516348) )   Guardian (21/05/2019): EU to investigates Nigel Farage over expenses funded by Arron Banks (www (https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/may/21/eu-investigate-nigel-farage-failure-declare-expenses-arron-banks) )     Conference of Europe Consultation on the Future of Europe (www (https://ec.europa.eu/commission/priorities/democratic-change/future-europe/consultation-future-europe_en) ), including    online consultation (www (https://ec.europa.eu/consultation/runner/Future-of-Europe?surveylanguage=en) )  white paper (www (https://ec.europa.eu/commission/future-europe/white-paper-future-europe-and-way-forward_en) )  and how to get involved in citizen dialogue initiatives (www (https://ec.europa.eu/info/events/citizens-dialogues_en) )    Other ways for citizens to have a voice and understand more about the EU European Citizen Initiatives: “Get a greater say in the policies that affect your lives. Since the minute that British citizens voted, in a 2016 referendum, to leave the European Union, confusion and disorganization has consumed the U.K. Three years later, little has changed: confusion and disorganization may carry the U.K. over the cliff of a no-deal Brexit with devastating economic consequences.   While we can’t predict what will happen on the deadline of March 29th, we continue to learn about what brought the U.K. to this precarious position. Like the 2016 presidential election in the U.S., the campaign for Brexit employed divisive social media campaigns, mysterious sources of financing, Cambridge Analytica, and questionable meetings with Russians. At the center of it was a man named Arron Banks, an insurance magnate who is happy to take credit for his efforts to promote Brexit by whatever means necessary. Ed Caesar has reported on Banks’s outsized role in the referendum, and found that Banks is had been under investigation in Britain and in South Africa, where he has business interests in diamonds, as well as a person of interest in the Mueller investigation. Since the minute that British citizens voted, in a 2016 referendum, to leave the European Union, confusion and disorganization has consumed the U.K. Three years later, little has changed: confusion and disorganization may carry the U.K. over the cliff of a no-deal Brexit, with devastating economic consequences. Though we can’t predict what will happen, we continue to learn about what brought the U.K. to this precarious position. Like the 2016 presidential election in the U.S., the campaign for Brexit employed divisive social-media campaigns, mysterious sources of financing, Cambridge Analytica, and questionable meetings with Russians. At the center of it was a man named Arron Banks, an insurance magnate who is happy to take credit for his efforts to promote Brexit by whatever means necessary. Ed Caesar reported on Banks’s outsized role in the referendum, and found that Banks is under investigation in Britain and in South Africa, where he has business interests in diamonds, and was also a person of interest in the Mueller investigation. Caesar spoke with David Remnick about Brexit’s shady past and uncertain future.

Lesley and I were both enthralled by the US midterm elections. I followed them on CNN and she on C4. Still her go to news channel despite the Nicola Sturgeon Brexit debate debacle. The blue surge in the States ushered in a swathe of new, progressive Democrats to the House of Representatives, but has Donald Trump managed, with typical sleight of hand, another master stroke of deflection with his sacking of Jeff Sessions and attack on CNN's Jim Acosta? Lesley's most recent column in the National focused on the report for the Revive Coalition by Dr Ruth Tingay and Andy Wightman on Scotland's driven grouse moors. Lesley asks if there can be a united campaign to rewild and repopulate this barren 20% of Scotland's land, and how radical will the Scottish Government be prepared to be in challenging land owners. Just when Dundee seems to be breaking free of its post-industrial gloom Michelin has announced the closure of its tyre factory with the loss of over 800 jobs. Is it a case of two steps forward, three steps back for the city, or can government, unions, and the workers save the plant? The BBC made the controversial decision to interview Leave. EU’s Arron Banks after his referral to the National Crime Agency. Was this the right decision? And was Andrew Marr the right man? We also take time for personal reflections on loss as we approach the centenary of the Armistice.

On today's episode of Loud & Clear, Brian Becker and John Kiriakou are joined by Juan José Gutiérrez, the executive director of the Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition, and Isabel Garcia, co-founder of Coalición de Derechos Humanos. With less than a week left before the midterm election, Donald Trump has announced that he would be sending up to 15,000 soldiers to the U.S.-Mexico border. Meanwhile Republicans released an overtly racist campaign ad yesterday showing an undocumented migrant who was convicted of killing two policemen saying with a smile that he would soon escape and kill more people and then blaming Democrats for the deaths. Thursday’s weekly series “Criminal Injustice” is about the most egregious conduct of our courts and prosecutors and how justice is denied to so many people in this country. Paul Wright, the founder and executive director of the Human Rights Defense Center and editor of Prison Legal News (PLN), and Kevin Gosztola, a writer for Shadowproof.com and co-host of the podcast Unauthorized Disclosure, join the show. More than 1,000 Google employees and contractors briefly walked off the job yesterday in Europe and Asia amid complaints of racism, sexism, and abuse of executive authority in the workplace. More walkouts are scheduled today. Google’s chief executive said in a statement that the company will carefully weigh its employees demands and respond appropriately. Brian and John speak with Patricia Gorky, an activist and a tech worker in San Francisco. The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, or SIGAR, issued a report yesterday showing that the Afghan government controls less territory than it has at any time since the US invasion. SIGAR said that the government of Ashraf Ghani controls only 55.5 percent of Afghanistan after 17 years of US military aid and support. Kathy Kelly, co-coordinator of Voices for Creative Non-Violence, joins the show. Human Rights Watch, the US-based human rights organization, released a study yesterday based on interviews with more than 100 North Korean defectors now in South Korea, saying that North Korean government officials routinely commit sexual violence against women with impunity. The allegation is shocking, but critics say this is just another smear job to derail steps towards peace in Korea. Dr. Christine Hong, Associate Professor of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies at UC Santa Cruz and a member of the Korea Policy Institute, joins Brian and John. The Bank of England this morning warned of an economic catastrophe if the UK leaves the European Union without a Brexit deal. Bank governor Mark Carney said that absent an agreement, the UK should expect gridlock in its ports and airports, inflation, and a collapse in the value of the pound. This comes as police open a criminal probe into pro-Brexit campaign donor Arron Banks, who has been the target of conspiracy theories relating to his business interest in Russia. Steve Hedley, senior assistant general secretary of the the UK’s Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers Union, joins the show.Rep. Steve King, a Republican of Iowa, is one of the most conservative and anti-immigrant members of the House of Representatives. He calls himself a nationalist. Many of his detractors call him a bigot, a racist, and a white nationalist. King made a controversial tweet a few days ago and instantly moved his safe Republican seat to a toss-up. On this week’s episode – The battle for Mosul is now in its seventh day and the Iraqi army says around 50 villages have been liberated from ISIS militants. But has a plan been made for what happens after the fight for the city is over? I put this to Rory Stewart, Minister of State at the Department for International Development. After years of negotiations, talks of Canada’s trade-deal with the EU broke down on Friday. Due to be signed next week and with all 28 member states in support of the agreement talks fell through as Belgium’s Wallonia region rejected the deal. The Canadian trade minister and president of the European Parliament say they hope it can still be signed. To discuss the implications of this impasse we hear from the former Attorney General Dominic Grieve, the head of Europe and trade policy at the Institute of Directors, Allie Renison and Dr Gerard Lyons, the co chair of economists for Brexit. The so-called jungle camp in Calais is due to close this week and the UK government is hurrying to fulfil its promise to take in unaccompanied minors. We hear from Stella Creasy, MP for Walthamstow, who is leading the fight to bring the children of Calais to Britain. Once again, the race to discover who will be the next leader of UKIP is underway, we speak to the leadership hopeful Raheem Kassam who is being backed by the party donor, Arron Banks. And finally, as ever, we have a team of top political pundits to discuss this week's news - political columnist Steve Richards, the political editor of the Sun David Wooding and Sky’s own senior political correspondent Beth Rigby.
