Do you have piles of paper that are constantly shuffled around from place to place? Do you lack a system around all the paper coming into your home? Today I'm sharing my no-fail paper processing routine around the three main categories of paper that my mamas struggle with the most - mail, kids' school papers, and kids' artwork. Resources Mentioned (may include affiliate links): The paper tray/inbox I use in my kitchen looks like this one I use the ScanSnap scanner. Mine works with Evernote but they make other models as well. Amazon Basics 12-sheet paper shredder For mail: To unsubscribe: For catalogs you don't want, use Catalog Choice. Dmachoice.org to unsubscribe from mailing lists Optoutprescreen.com for credit card solicitations yellowpagesoptout.com for phone books Magazines - depends on the magazine but the company needs to be contacted directly in most cases. If you don't want the physical copy, your local library may have access to magazines through Libby or Overdrive. Mine has 3,900 magazines available! For kids' school papers: I use Evernote (especially the Evernote app) to easily capture kids' school work and artwork I want to keep. Here's a short Reel showing you how I use it. For kids' artwork and crafts: If artwork doesn't go on my kids' corkboards in their rooms, I leave it in art purgatory for a few months. Then I go through it and will either take a photo using Evernote or throw it away. I will keep a limited number of items (especially with handprints, etc.) in a physical file folder after I have taken a photo or scanned it. Other ways to keep your kids artwork is using a system like Artkive and Keepy. They are apps that have paid and free versions that can take your kids' artwork and make art books or framed mosaics out of them. *** Have a question about decluttering, simplifying, systems, or anything else we talk about on the podcast? Happy New Year! As many people are partaking in Dryuary this month (not drinking in January), I am excited to share this episode of a first-person sobriety journey with Staci Pfeffer, a wife, mom of three and founder of Staci Pfeffer Interiors, warm, minimal design for the curated modern home. She is also my longtime bestie!Staci and I have known each other since the 6th grade and we have experienced many foundational aspects of life together, including our first sips of alcohol. In this episode she openly and bravely shares her story -- about why she started drinking, how she used wine to manage her anxiety, when she realized it had become unmanageable -- and then how she was able to quit. She's been sober for eight years. In the episode we have an honest chat about what disordered drinking can look like, and I promised to share some resources. She is also my CPA and tax advisor! After a selling a traditional tax practice, two years ago Kelsey launched Arrow Advisory Services to focus on providing hands-on boutique services to small business owners. Last week I shared 3 ways to invest in organization and why that's such a good idea. This week I wanted to piggyback that idea and focus more specifically on how to choose the right containers for your space and style! These days it's cool to be organized and add your own personal style to your home! There are all types of containers offered at high-end retailers, online, and even your local dollar store. With all these options, how do you know which to choose that'll work best in your space for you and your family? On this episode I suggest 3 things to consider when making your container choices: size, style, and multipurpose options. I remind you to always start with the essential purge when getting organized. Once you have only what you want to keep, and have sold or donated the clutter or unused items, you should measure your space (cabinet, drawer, closet) and the items you're trying to contain so you know it'll fit! Next, get super real about your style. You want your containers to match your space (traditional, modern, contemporary, boho, farmhouse). That'll help you decide on woven baskets, clear and transparent or opaque bins, plastic, acrylic, glass, labels, etc to go with the look of your home. You also want them to serve your style of organizing. If you won't take the time to take a top off and place your item inside, opt for open storage containers or hooks on the wall. A bonus in choosing the right container is to consider if it'll be multifunctional and count as storage and seating, or a coffee table with storage space below, for example. Choosing neutral colors will also leave you the option of moving the bin from one space to another without being bound to a specific color or room and have longevity. No matter what you choose, it has to work for you and your family. So the next time you're organizing, think about these 3 things to help you choose the right containers! Mentioned on this episode: Ep 2: The Cost of Disorganization Ep 7: The Essential Purge ARTKIVE for your kids' artwork @everythingwithstylemom on Instagram to see garage storage with containerstore.com containers and origami shelves Here are the highlights for this episode: {3:55} The decision to get organized and invest in support {8:42} Choose the right size containers {14:04} Choose the right style containers {19:58} Consider multi-purpose containers For more resources on how to organize and style your busy life, SUBSCRIBE to this podcast, visit EverythingWithStyle.com, and follow me on Instagram @everythingwithstylemom for more organization motivation!

As the world confronts the spread of the coronavirus, more and more places are implementing stay-at-home orders. And while we’re all sorting through much bigger worries, we’re also left with the more basic question: What should we do while we have so much time at home? We’re big believers that your top priority should be caring for yourself and your family, but if you find yourself feeling restless, this is also a good opportunity to tackle some home projects and maintenance. Now is not the time to head to the store for nonessential items, so we’re going to focus on projects you can probably do with materials you have at home or items that can safely get delivered. Here’s our downloadable list of projects you can do while social distancing at home: HERE The promo code for Knife Aid is: HOMESCHOOL’D (one word and all caps). This week is a Back to School Special: I discuss the importance of setting your children up for success and what that looks like: 1. Establish Expectations for The School Year: At School: What grades are required? What privileges are lost if those grades aren't met? Responsibilities: What does that look like for different ages? At Home: What household chores are expected throughout the week? -Lunches packed night before. -Unpack backpacks and set out notes/reminder binders/things to be signed after school -Help with laundry, dishes, and kitchen clean up. 2. Remind Them of their Identity (especially in Junior High where they start to find identity in peers rather than family ) -Who are they? -What traits make them leaders? -What unique gifts did God give them to use to bring glory to Him? -Let them know that they are not defined by their athletic or academic abilities. While greatness is admirable to strive for, who God created them to be, is far more important in life. -What are their morals? -What temptations will they face? What does this look like at different ages? 5th grade: lying about homework and bullying, 8th grade more serious temptations, vaping, drugs, sex, alcohol, porn…. -Re-establish Boundaries: Remind them of both their personal boundaries as well as respecting other's boundaries. Have an age appropriate discussion about inappropriate actions and how to know when something doesn't feel right. -Remind them of what characteristics make them a leader for Christ. -Stand up for personal beliefs. -Embrace their unique gifts. -Be themselves and don't change for others -Be proud of who they were created to be. -Give God the Glory -Witness to Others: take up for the underdog, make the new kid feel welcome, speak up for the bullied. -Be Humble & Kind 3. Ways to Stay Organized throughout the school year: -Sync Your Calendars -ICal: One address for all family events synced with hubs & one address for strictly kid events synced with hubs & kiddos. -Cozi Family App: Never tried it, but hear it works wonders to sync all things family. -Set Bedtime on Kids' Phones: Set it for 15 minutes before bedtime so that they can know it's time to wrap up whatever activity they are doing: practice piano, watch videos, read, etc… Parental Restrictions on Kids phones: Set Parameters on Data & Screen time usage to turn off at bedtime & then turn back on at whatever time you wish the next day. -What to do with ALL The Things that come home from school: -Immediately enter dates into phone with notes & throw paper notes away -Artwork: Download the ArtKive app: it creates digital files of your kids' artwork, stores it in a cloud file & you can order scrapbooks.4. SAFETY: -360 LIFE: Great Family Monitoring app -BARK: monitors who your children are talking to and what they're talking about. *Must have Apple/Android/or Amazon device: -Monitors Social Media, Text Messages, Email, YouTube, Safari, and DropBox -Monitors & Detects risks through algorithms that detect cyberbullying, violence, drugs & alcohol, self-harm & suicide, sexual content & sexting…so that you don't have to manually read every message and it's only $9/month: -For Children under 10 years of age: NCMEC created a campaign to teach young children about safe internet usage: It's called Into The Cloud and deals with Cyberbullying as well as inappropriate interactions: YouTube: NetSmartz Workshop.
