    Ivy Insights

The We Are The Village Parenting Podcast is an absolute gem of a podcast. As a parent myself, I can confidently say that this podcast has been an answer to my prayers. Mama Sareena and Amma Lisa, the hosts of the show, are wise and compassionate individuals who share their knowledge and experience with the world. I especially appreciate how knowledgeable Amma Lisa is, providing concrete advice for parenting, while Mama Sareena is compassionate and caring, offering support and understanding for mamas. This podcast has truly been a valuable resource for me.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is how easy and engaging it is to listen to. The hosts have a great chemistry, making the conversations enjoyable and relatable. The material they cover not only includes practical suggestions for parenting, but also advice on how mamas can cope with the challenges they face. I have learned so much from this podcast, including the reminder that "she is only acting her age" when dealing with difficult moments with my toddler. This perspective shift has brought so much clarity to my parenting journey.

While it's hard to find any faults in this podcast, one slight downside could be that it may not cater to all types of parenting styles or preferences. However, the hosts do their best to provide a variety of perspectives and insights within the context of respectful parenting and early childhood development.

In conclusion, The We Are The Village Parenting Podcast is a must-listen for any parent looking to practice respectful parenting. Whether you're seeking practical advice for dealing with toddlers or support for your own well-being as a mama, this podcast offers valuable guidance and understanding. Mama Sareena and Amma Lisa have created an inclusive space where parents can come together to connect and learn from each other's experiences. I am grateful for this amazing resource and look forward to continuing my journey with them.

Does hitting our kids really work? That's what we are discussing in this week's topic.Sure it might seem like a quick fix but what are the consequences? In this week's conversation, we are talking tantrums. What are they, why do they happen, and how can we minimize them? One thing we want you to take away is that a tantrum is a communication and not a behavioral problem! This might be hard to digest as we might think a tantrum or meltdown is because they just aren't getting what they want, when in fact this is just their response to stressors. Do you ever joke with your kids and say “awwww, your life is soooo hard.” Although it seems that they have it so easy… our littles have stressors as well. We think they have it made but it's not as easy as we think. These little ones are learning and absorbing so much. It can be/feel overwhelming to them and when our needs/wants differ from theirs, this can cause stress leading to “tantrums.” We will discuss what that looks like in their bodies and how we as parents can support our kids during these times! Have you heard of not using the word no with your littles? Did that sound crazy to you? Because it did to me…… until this episode! I learned the brain work behind it and how it actually helps gain our littles cooperation. I used to think we would be raising brats by not saying no do them or using these “negative” words. But it is not only with our littles that we can improve cooperation and listening, even in our other relationships this will help. I know it may seem difficult but the first step is NOTICING. So we want you to atleast start noticing and paying attention to the times you do say “no” or “don't do this.”Then to learn how to change it we give you the tool of giving information so you know what to say next.Instead of “DON'T LEAVE YOUR SHOES HERE, PICK THEM UPAND PUT THEM AWAY!”You can try “I see some shoes in the entrance.” This will work when your child knows what is expected so those boundaries should be set first so when you say this they can, with more willingness, go put their shoes away.It is pretty magical and will help connect you as well when you can learn how to speak to each other in this way.Goodluck and go try it out!Support the showPlease share and tag us on our platforms below if you enjoyed this episode!Instagram: The Nurturing ParentFacebook Page: The Nurturing ParentEmail Us: TheNurturingparent.Pod@gmail.comOriginal music ©Lisa K Sigurgeirson 1986

Hi, I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 4 month old baby. Both are girls. My oldest daughter is going through the tantrum phase and at times it's literally for anything - she wants to pour her own water even though the cup is filled to the rim, her father went to walk the dog, she wants to eat on my lap, she wants something else to eat, doesn't want the car seat belt, etc - and they just spiral. I try to connect with her, we do breathing exercises and I reinforce feelings and “using our words.” I won't lie, when the tantrums continue to spiral - meaning it's 30 mins of tantruming - I have to walk away at times. I feel like my chest is tightening and I'm overwhelmed. Also, my 4 month old has been very jumpy especially every time her big sister has a tantrum. The baby will start crying, wake up crying, or be easily startled. At times I feel like she's scared by her older sister. Is my younger child becoming overwhelmed or traumatised by all the yelling? I don't know what to do. I don't want them to resent each other or have a bad relationship. Thank you, Edmary (a mama who just trying) Episodes ReferencedEpisode #15 - BABY # 2 ON THE WAY! Do you ever catch yourself cringing when you see your little one making a mess or getting dirty?I do... Messy and sensory play is so beneficial for our littles but if I'm honest setting up sensory play seems overwhelming and I hate cleaning up! But after this week's conversation with Amma, I was actually very excited to set up messy play opportunities and let my kids go out and get dirty. Some simple and easy messy play ideas are-water play-sensory bins (with dirt)-paintingWays I implemented our conversation into my weekendSaturday I let them dig in the dirt! I just gave them 2 little shovels and a space where they can dig to look for worms as I did some work in the backyard picking weeds. I invited them to help but they weren't interested... then we all showered after because they REALLY got dirty! And Sunday while I folded laundry I set up a sensory bin with rice and hid little figurines inside. Both my girls age 3 &1 had so much fun discovering what was inside and then transferring the rice from container to container. I had to take a deep breath when by the end of it, it was literally EVERYWHERE. But we cleaned it up together and everything was fine! We had lots of fun, they were busy for about an hour with both activities, and I was able to get some things done! Below are some photos of how it turned out. Ellie's face with actual dirt is just priceless and this rice which spread very far was cleaned up within 7-8 minutes as a team!We hope you enjoy this week's episode mamas ❤️Support the showPlease share and tag us on our platforms below if you enjoyed this episode!Instagram : The Nurturing ParentFacebook Group : The Nurturing Parent GroupEmail Us : TheNurturingparent.Pod@gmail.comOriginal music ©Lisa K Sigurgeirson 1986

Well, hopefully after tuning in to today's episode you will find the advantages of boredom are crucial to our kid's brain health and development. Some of my favorite benefits of "boredom" are:Chance to daydream a.k.a. wool-gathering (love that word)time for reflection and instilling altruism builds tolerance for discomfort (learning to step out of their comfort zone increases their growth and success)fosters independent play and thinkingBoredom is crucial for brain health and development so we hope this serves as a reminder to take a deep breathe, leave time for nothing, and try doing less as a family. I cannot imagine being bored... I wish I could feel boredom. Let our kids enjoy that gift while they can!
