Gundog (Replay) ** Previously Aired ** Star Wars: Rogue One Screenwriter, author, and the inventor of the Batcomputer at Home kit, Gary Whitta, joins us this week to discuss his new book, Gundog. (Amazon link - https://amzn.to/3Zy85PS) We also discussed his work on the screenwriting of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the Book of Eli, not to mention his very popular YouTube show, Animal Talking, which came out during COVID-19. It was based on the popular game Animal Crossing at the time. We joke with Gary about his home computer setup, which resembles Batman's Batcave starter kit. BATMAN: The Animated Series   Robin's Reckoning Part 1   During a fight with some gangsters at a construction yard, Batman and Robin learn the name of their boss: Billy Marin. While Robin looks forward to going up against Marin, Batman becomes distant, and after a falling out at the Batcave, Batman doesn't allow Robin to accompany him on the search for Marin. Robin investigates on the Batcomputer, and soon realizes that Billy Marin is not the boss' real name. Rather, it is an alias of Tony Zucco, the man who killed his parents (which Batman already knew, but chose not to tell Robin).   Robin's Reckoning Part 2   Angered by Batman's deceit, Robin sets out to find Tony Zucco on his own, all the while plagued by the memories of his parents' death and how Bruce took him in as his own son. Eventually, Batman manages to find Zucco at an old amusement park, but breaks his leg during the fight. Robin finally arrives and prepares to kill Zucco in revenge.   Night of the Ninja   A mysterious ninja is robbing Wayne Enterprises subsidiaries, and Batman discovers that the ninja is actually his equal in combat. A grudge against Bruce Wayne and skills to match him can only mean one person: Kyodai Ken, an old rival of Wayne's teacher from his days in Japan, and who was thrown out of the dojo after attempting to rob it, only to be stopped by Wayne. Ken, it turns out, wants revenge.     Cat Scratch Fever   Batman must stop Roland Daggett's plan to release a viral plague designed by Professor Milo into Gotham by way of its stray cat population. The case gains new urgency when Catwoman becomes infected with the virus during her search for her missing cat, Isis. Now, Batman must find an antidote to save the woman who loves him most. No matter how many times he's been rebooted, audiences are always willing to come back to Gotham City's greatest defender. With so much Bat content out there, there's plenty to dissect, analyze, and of course, rank! This podcast is dedicated to a surgical evaluation of Batman's history, with a focus on ranking several topics in the world of Batman, among other classic Bat themes and characters. Join host Daniel Cohen, Pop Break's former Film Editor and Resident Bat-Maven, as he brings on several guests every month to share his passion for the one and only Dark Knight. From Adam West to Robert Pattinson, no bat stone will be left unturned. Bottom-line: If you're a Batman fan, this is required listening. This month, the Bat Crew takes a break from rankings as they fire up the oversized Bat Computer and look ahead to what's in store for Batman, covering all the big news of the summer. Daniel is joined once again by Editor-in-Chief Bill Bodkin and Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus, as they give their opinions and hot takes on all the Bat happenings, including the unprecedented cancellation of the Batgirl movie, which sent Bane sized shockwaves throughout the internet. They also dive into the long and winding road that has been The Flash movie, Ben Affleck's apparent return in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and the official confirmation of a sequel to this year's The Batman. The crew also digest the announced Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, which sees not only the return of Joaquin Phoenix, but catapults Lady Gaga into the franchise. Also, there may, or may not be an argument or two about the first Joker movie as well. Everyone knows about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's time we gave the DC Animated Universe some love. "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" marked the first time DC put an animated feature into theaters, and it changed the way we'd see Batman on screen for years to come. This 1993 release was loosely based on the graphic novel "Batman: Year One" and trade paperback "Batman: Year Two," so it had Gene's attention. And Big D watched a lot of "The Animated Series" while stoned in college. Needless to say, the Shat Crew was excited to visit a Gotham City envisioned by Bruce Timm and voiced by Mark Hamill, Kevin Conroy, Dana Delany, Stacy Keach, and Abe Vigoda. In this episode, Gene and Big D cover lawn sex, Batman's detective roots, what a weak villain The Phantasm was, a weird romance, bad boy billionaires, the real motivation behind Bruce Wayne dressing as Batman, Alfred's horrid lot in life, the secret intelligence behind the Batcomputer, and flashbacks ... so many flashbacks. It's Fall now. I don't care what you say. We had the sneak preview, and now it's here, so chug a bunch of Claritin and get your carving kit out because some horny teens just moved in next door and you've got to stop them. While you're carefully hanging up the dead bodies in order to scare the virgin last girl, think about what went wrong in your life that got you here. Was it being drowned in a lake for being ugly? Was it dying in a fiery blaze because you like to touch kids? Or maybe because you're a magical midget that likes mayhem? Perhaps it was even one of these:- True Crime Internet Detectives- Not Enough Beer- The Man Behind The Wizard- Third Party Support SitesEvery now and then a 'girl next door' young blonde woman from Ohio pisses her boyfriend off enough or catches the attention of a crazed lunatic and for weeks all the news can talk about is the search for her. And with the rise of the internet, some people have started to take on the case themselves! Searching through social media and making a timeline of her movements in the lamest form of vigilante justice possible. Do they ever find the guy and go beat his ass? No. They find the wrong guy and get him arrested at work. But you know who could actually find all these missing white women? Batman. Not himself of course, I'm sure if Batman was real, he'd just have the Batcomputer solving all these cases in a minimized tab while he trolls through the local orphanage for his next Robin.Outdoor festivals, what are they? They're cordoned off public areas that it's okay to get drunk in! Do you think its okay to run out of beer at one of these 2/3rd of the way through the day? What if you went to Six Flags and they stopped half the rides at 2 PM? You'd be pissed! Are there a dozen other things to do or see there? Yeah, but we all know what you're there for. What if all the rides were at the very back of the park and not spread throughout? That's just more poor planning. And it's not like this is the first time! You'd think they could fix this and make it better and more efficient year after year, but what do I know. When you create a character or persona, it's important not to break the illusion. It's why when you go see a play and Hamlet stabs someone he doesn't stop, turn to the audience and say "Don't worry folks, I didn't really stab him, we're actors and this sword is a fake!" It's why kids cry when the guy in the Mickey Mouse costume pulls off his giant head. They don't care about the park employee, they want pure, unadulterated Mouse. Similarly, I don't need to know that you're depressed, or you want me to donate to a GoFundMe for your sick cousin, or even that you're on vacation so you won't be active for the next 2 weeks. You post dumb fake movie quotes, you're not a public servant. You know that feeling you get when you go to a restaurant and the service is above and beyond your expectations? Or when the guy at the store you're at actually cares about what he sells and can give you great advice? That's great customer service. Unfortunately it's the 0.01% of all customer service experiences. More and more companies are moving support to third party services that handle 150 other companies already with a phone farm in Mumbai. "Josh" from SupportCo doesn't know and doesn't care about your very specific use case of a very expensive piece of equipment, he just wants his $1.25 an hour. All this and more on this week's episode! We're talking about the revolutionary Tim Burton blockbuster that went on to shape the superhero movies that dominate the box office more than three decades later. We fire up the Batcomputer and analyze it all: the iconic Prince soundtrack, the controversial casting of Michael Keaton - largely known at the time as a comedic actor - as the Dark Knight, and Burton's "killer" take on the character. Welcome to another episode of I AM THE NIGHT, a podcast dedicated to breaking down every episode of Batman: The Animated Series. Each week, the wonderful Steve J Ray (reviewer at DC Comics News, as well as Editor-in-Chief of our sister site Dark Knight News) and a guest will sit down and dive cowl first into an episode of the greatest animated series of all time. In this episode, Steve is joined by fellow DKN writer Max Byrne to talk about the 32nd and 33rd episodes of season one of Batman: TAS, the two-parter entitled "Robin's Reckoning". So sit back, put on your cape and cowl, and prepare yourself for a journey into the darkness! Episode Synopsis Part 1 - During a fight with some gangsters at a construction yard, Batman and Robin learn the name of their boss: Billy Marin. Part 2 - Angered by Batman's deceit, Robin sets out to find Tony Zucco on his own, all the while plagued by the memories of his parents' death and how Bruce took him in as his own son. Eventually, Batman manages to find Zucco at an old amusement park, but breaks his leg during the fight. Robin finally arrives and prepares to kill Zucco in revenge. When Ben isn't behind the camera, you can find him sharing his lifelong love of Adam West's TV Batman as a co-moderator over at the 1966 Batman Message Board (66batman.com). Having traveled to California several times to attend conventions and hang out with Bat-friends, Ben has been lucky enough to try on one of Adam's original screen worn Cowls, meet several surviving cast members from the show and even run up and down the steps of Gotham City Police Headquarters in his own Adam West Batsuit.  You can keep up to date with Ben's photographic work over on his blog... http://www.benbentleyphoto.tumblr.com or why not come and join Scott, Ben and the gang at the internet's longest standing 1966 TV Batman message board... http://www.66batman.com"   I'm originally from a place called Bradenton in Florida.  I lived there until I turned twenty three and decided to move out to Southern California to pursue my musical ambitions.  Musical ambitions?  Yeah, I was one of those long haired rockers back in the eighties and into the nineties.  The hair mutinied and decided to abandoned ship bit by bit as did the ambitions of being a rock star.  I still dabble when the creative kick in the head won't leave me alone.  But, I'm not subscribing to Billboard to find out what's the latest thing or hocking the furniture to buy the latest gear. I am a freelance multimedia artist.  Graphic design, web-mastering, audio engineering, video editing, photography, photo retouch or whatever seems to blur the lines of such things is what I do.  Heck, even acting is in the mix.  Prior to this,I spent years in various careers such as a full time recording engineer running tape machines (remember those?) and making albums (remember those?).  Eventually I took a stab at the nine to five with benefits world of music instrument retail and did that for well over a decade.  Won awards and stuff too while I was at it but quite honestly I was pretty miserable most of the time.  I've learned so much at all my jobs. From mixing paint to cutting produce, the experiences and people along the way have taught me much. Why a blog?  Quite a  few years ago, I started a website  about the 1966 Batman television series starring Adam West at batfriend.com. Very soon after starting the site, I started to experience all kinds of adventures in the wonderful world of Batfandom.  As I wrote about it online, the reaction and feedback prompted me to share more and more about it.  The experiences were numerous and the adventures took me across the country many times as various people from all over the world wide web started to become close friends and colleagues in my real life. So the question still exists.  Why a blog now?  Through my experiences, many other things happen or come to mind that don't really fit simply in the Batman world.  Batman isn't my life.  It's just one of the fun parts of it.  So, I'm finally gathering together the many different facets of my thoughts, experiences, and some here and there nonsense to share with those who might enjoy it.  Batman's still there punching away.  Music is still there banging around in my head.  But, there is even more. I've said it before.  The journey is everything.  And if it's a good journey, it's best shared.  Fortunately, I'm incredibly lucky to share so many of them with my wife, love of my life and soulmate, Vickie.  She really is the girl of my dreams.  As of this writing, we've been married for over twenty years.  She's my best friend. It's a fun life and I'm not done yet!

"The Beat of the Bat" is a full-length documentary that tells the story of the music of the 1966 "Batman" Television Series and how composers Neal Hefti, Nelson Riddle & Billy May gave Batman his first real musical identity- and one that has remained inexorably tied to the character for over 50 years! In fact, if you saw the just released "Lego Batman Movie" you might have noticed the numerous references to the music of the TV series. And face it, you can go up to anyone, anywhere in the world and sing "Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na!" and they will instantly know what you are talking about! The music was as important to the show as the bright colors, campy dialogue and tongue-in-cheek performances. Yet, strangely, the story of how it came to be has never been told... Until now. John is joined by the director of the documentary, The Beat of the Bat, Pat Evans to discuss the importance of the project and the Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds needed to make it a reality. Any comments or questions on this episode, please post them here or by writing thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com.   The first album Pat Evans ever owned was Neil Hefti's "Batman Theme & 11 Hefti Bat Songs", which sparked his lifelong love of Bat-Music.  "The Beat of the Bat" is Pat's way of giving back to the talented composers and musicians who created that music. A talented Graphic Artist, Pat's works has been featured in The Hollywood Reporter and the late, lamented Defamer. We take a look at another William Dozier pilot for another comic related property.  This time, it's Dick Tracy - He's a Good Cop.  This time though, Dozier went all out with a full length half-hour episode featuring Victor Buono as the villain, Mr. Memory - which starts the batter of questions about where this show was going.     In "The Plot to Kill NATO", Mr. Memory kidnaps three NATO ambassadors at the request of Major Powers.  His method of operation seems interesting enough, but there is still something lacking in his character.  And yet, despite this, the pilot is an enjoyable viewing experience with a lot of recommend including Jan Shulman as Liz and the well choreographed fight scenes.   John is joined by his The Hornet's Sting co-host, Jim Beard, to pitch these questions.  Just how committed was Dozier to this property? What would a relationship with Chester Gould have been like had the show gone forward? Why wasn't one of the established villains used in the pilot?  And why did Dozier still build in little nods to Batman and The Green Hornet when both shows were on their last legs? Any comments or questions on this episode, please post them here or by writing thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com.     A native of Toledo, Ohio, Jim Beard was introduced to comic books at an early age by his father, who passed on to him a love for the medium and the pulp characters who preceded it. After decades of reading, collecting and dissecting comics, Jim became a published writer when he sold a story to DC Comics in 2002. Since that time he's written official Star Wars and Ghostbusters comic stories and contributed articles and essays to several volumes of comic book history.   His prose work includes GOTHAM CITY 14 MILES, a book of essays on the 1966 Batman TV series; SGT. JANUS, SPIRIT-BREAKER, a collection of pulp ghost stories featuring an Edwardian occult detective; MONSTER EARTH, a giant monster anthology; and CAPTAIN ACTION: RIDDLE OF THE GLOWING MEN, the first pulp prose novel based on the classic 1960s action figure. Currently, Jim provides regular content for Marvel.com, the official Marvel Comics website, and is a regular columnist for Toledo Free Press.   Websites http://www.facebook.com/thebeardjimbeard http://www.sgtjanus.blogspot.com

(RIGHT CLICK THE IMAGE TO SAVE THIS EPISODE TO YOUR COMPUTER) Aired March 14/16, 1967     Hollywood legend Tallulah Bankhead gives her final performance as the menacing Black Widow.  Her plot is so simple, even the Batcomputer can't work it out - robbing banks in Gotham in alphabetical order.  As simple as the plot may seem, there is something very endearing about the episode, one that has remained a favorite of John's to this very day.  He's joined in this discussion by Batman at 45 author Chris Gould.   Comment on the episode here or write thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com   Chris Gould was born in the UK in 1983, and has lived in Japan since 2008. His career so far has seen him work as a political researcher, local government officer, sports journalist, business English teacher, translator and magazine writer.    Introduced to Batman re-runs as a child, Chris would watch the show as a junior high-schooler, university student and mid-career professional, his appreciation taking on new forms at every step.    Convinced that Batman constitutes the definitive guide to mid-60s popular culture, and is therefore an invaluable source of study for future generations, Chris took to researching the show in detail, eventually producing the ebook: Batman at 45: The Ultimate Tribute to Pow, Bam and Zap!    The aim of his research is to underline the point that no matter how many years have passed, Batman, through its sheer diversity of stars and insightful lines, helps us fully understand how we got to where we are today.

My father doesn't ask much of me... I mean yeah, he asked me to be a superhero... which is kind of a big "Son, could you do me a favor?", I admit... But apart from that he lets me be. He doesn't criticize how I dress, either. He doesn't judge. So he comes to me with something he needs doing... What can I say... "yeah, Dad, you want, you got," right? Except it's only then I learn what that something is... defend the city against a god Starman aka Jack Knight This is not the world that our heroes once knew and it all changed the day the solar flare happened and a mechanical army lead by Brainiac marched over humanity. Humans and metahumans have been hunted to near extinction but some fight back against the apocalypse in hopes of changing the fate of a world most consider dead. Our heroes stand poised to storm the stronghold of the evil Brainiac and his armies in the Lexcorp building in Metropolis but something is amiss. The Batcomputer says that a solution lies inside the fortress of Lexcorp but what is it? A mysterious experiment and a foe that no one expected all await our heroes. Can the war be won today or will the fall of mankind happen and it crushed under the mechanical boot of Brainiac. These are the days of future crisis. TheRiddler has plans for Batman in the form of a lawsuit claiming false arrest, but Batman knows the Riddler is not as innocent as he seems. Can Batman deduce the Riddler's scheme from the puzzles he's hidden inside the lawsuit?  Can he figure out that Robin isn't Robin?  And can we find all the ideas that would be repeated throughout the series that first led to its success and would ultimately lead to its downfall? Dayton Ward is the author of numerous media tie-in fiction works in such realms as Star Trek and The 4400.  He is also the author of such original works as Counterstrike, The Last World War, Book 2 and The Genesis Protocol. When he's not writing or working for a software design firm, he's busy indoctrinating his two lovely daughters into the worlds that have so seriously warped his mind.
