Countering former NFL player Will Compton who gave his takes on the "white" team, Ryan Channing and Fred shared their takes on the scenario with some competing opinions.  Getting into a little NBA, The guys were excited by the return of Ja Morant to the Memphis Grizzlies and how he made an immediate impact through his play making a statement on and off the court. The guys talk about Ja taking accountability for his actions and his importance to the league and Ryan says he can be the face in a different capacity as Allen Iverson became. Switching gears into another important topic, Brooklyn Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith was reunited with his father who was incarcerated 28 years ago. The former Dallas Maverick received help from owner Mark Cuban, and Chan brings up a conversation from two weeks ago about the importance of influencers having real influence. Prison reform is an important issue in today's society, but having a strong support system is what can change people's lives. The guys commend the joint effort from Nets and Mavericks to make something special happen. In sports and in life, Ryan Clark knows that success is subjective, so as the 2023 Steve Sabol award winner, Ryan talks about what the honor means to him. He also says dedication is what matters and Fred transitions into another team in the spotlight, the Dallas Cowboys. It seems as if they remain under a microscope week in and week out with a target on their back makes them an easy focus for the media, but after all the guys agree they are America's team.  Touching on a tougher storyline of the week, The conversation goes into a deeper discussion about a King's G-League player's recent confession to murder. The guys are surprised how very few people see the bigger picture of their actions in today's society.  Before heading into the holiday, Ryan reflects on how the Pivot began two years ago as a platform for open and honest conversations, but being able to experience his daughter's graduation for her master's degree, the idea of a pivot became much bigger and more impactful. From all of us here at The Pivot family, we wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday and hope everyone understands that it's about time, people and making memories this part of year. In this week's message, Steve Sabol challenges the way that we see God and encourages us with some ways to clear our vision so that we can see God for who He really is.

Born into an entertainment family in Queens, New York Jonathan Hock was destined for a career in sports and film.  For over 10 years, Hock cut his teeth under the tutelage of the legend Steve Sabol at NFL Films, leading him back to Brooklyn where he started his own production company, Hock Films.  After producing the beloved And1 Mixtape Tour for 7 seasons, Hock made his first award winning documentary, Through The Fire, profiling Staten Island basketball phenom, Sebastian Telfair. Hock has gone on to direct the most 30 for 30's and has arguably the finest sports documentary CV of all time. Hock takes us behind the curtain and explains some memorable moments from his highly acclaimed documentary of Miracles and Men and he explains to us why it was so important for him to frame the Felipe Lopez story through the lens of immigration in the wonderful 30 for 30 called the Dominican Dream.  It was truly enjoyable conversing with someone with so much expertise.   I think you will enjoy it too on this episode of Beyond the Lens presented by Diesel Films.

Minor league football is – and always has been – so far off the radar in this country that it's impossible to speak of there being any iconic teams. The sport offers nothing like the Hershey Bears hockey team or Rochester Red Wings baseball club that have entertained locals for upwards of a century. To the extent that minor and semi-pro football at least has a cult favorite team – the sport's answer to the Durham Bulls – it's likely the short-lived Pottstown Firebirds of the defunct Atlantic Coast Football League. The Firebirds were a colorful and talented bunch. They played at the local high school football stadium in Pottstown, 40 miles north of Philadelphia. The team was backed by a local underwear manufacturer named Ed Gruber and took their name and team color from a loose affiliation with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles. Though the club lasted only three seasons, they won two minor league titles. The team's 15 minutes of fame came thanks to Steve Sabol's NFL Films. The young company documented the Firebirds' final championship season in 1970. More than a year after the team's demise, the documentary Pro Football Pottstown PA aired prior to the national broadcast of Super Bowl VI in January 1972. The following year, the author Jay Acton published The Forgettables, a book that chronicled the Firebirds behind the scenes during that same 1970 season. (Acton later became a serial minor league baseball investor himself).

She's engaging, witty and has seen it all in her storied career. It's no wonder TV Guide named her, one of the 10 greatest female sportscasters of all time. Kremer's versatility is unmatched. And these are just her current gigs. In this in-depth conversation Kremer discusses her career of firsts- as the first female producer at NFL Films; first female correspondent at ESPN; and first all-female broadcast team to call an NFL game. She shares the initial apprehension that came with that Amazon Prime pitch and why she always joked at ESPN, she was John Walsh's ‘greatest draft pick.'Kremer gets real on the double standard that still exist for female sports journalists and explains how she forged a multi-faceted career in sports, during a time when very few female examples existed. Jerry Jones, Sterling Sharpe, Bob Costas, Michael Lombardi, Carl Peterson and Steve Mariucci all reflect on the life of Steve Sabol, one of the NFL's and televisions most influential and incredible men.  This special edition of the Rich Eisen Podcast remembering the life and contributions of Steve Sabol also includes Steve's last appearance on the podcast just prior to Super Bowl XLV in Dallas, where Steve's father Ed was nominated for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2011.  NFL Films is more than a production company, it's an institution. The life's work of Steve Sabol, a football player turned artist who transformed American television for half a century. In 1962, Ed Sabol won the rights to film the league's championship game and NFL Films was born. In a sense, so was Steve, who was there that freezing day at Yankee Stadium working as a cameraman. For the next 50 years, he never stopped working for the NFL. Few men in the League have ever had a longer run. None has ever had a better one. He was the game's first quintuple threat. An Emmy-winning auteur who won statuettes for cinematography, editing, writing, directing and producing. The only man ever to be so honored. But it wasn't hardware that Steve loved, it was the game. And he saw it as no one ever had. Through the eyes of an artist. With an unerring eye for detail, and a pitch perfect ear, Steve quickly transformed NFL Films from simple chroniclers of the game, to epic myth makers. And he did it, as all great artists do, by taking chances. Super slow motion, wireless mics on players, reverse angle replays, follies films, and custom composed musical scores. All that's standard stuff today, but before NFL Films it was unheard of. But then, Steve never thought like a sports filmmaker, he thought like a Hollywood storyteller. Big, bold, honest, and, funny. Those were the hallmarks of Steve's work. And Steve himself. Across fifty years, and tens of thousands of programs, there was one constant at NFL Films: Steve Sabol. He was one of that now rare breed of executive who not only had done every job in the company at one time or another, but could still do any of them better than most. More than the company's head, he was its heartbeat. Last summer, Steve presented his father for induction into Pro Football's Hall of Fame. Big Ed, reminded the crowd that his motto was: “Tell me a story and it'll live forever.” Like any good son, Steve always listened to his father. Then worked until he became the greatest storyteller the NFL has ever known. But he also listened to his heart. And by turning to the game he loved, he also embraced a piece of wisdom he learned while studying art at Colorado college. Art is love's accomplice, take love away and there is no art. Steve Sabol knew that better than anyone. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
