Do you ever find yourself struggling to make a decision? Ever felt analysis paralysis? Psychologists have suggested that choice paralysis (fear of making the wrong decision) is a cause of anxiety. Barry Schwartz, author of The Paradox of Choice: Why More Is Less, explains that: 1.    By having more choices, we make poorer decisions. 2.    Too much choice causes paralysis, unable to make any decisions at all. 3.    We spend more time thinking about the choices we didn't make rather than being satisfied with the ones we made. This is why I had to create a personal North Star. An ethos that represents my values in the present and the direction I want to take my life. Today, we'll explore nine steps you can take to create your own personal North Star, an idea or ethos that empowers you to make decisions aligned with your deepest values and aspirations.   1. Understanding Your Core Values 2. Step three: Define Your Purpose 3. Define Your Purpose 4. Set Meaningful Goals 5. Embrace Growth and Adaptation 6. Cultivate Mindfulness and Self-Awareness 7. In this episode of the Real World Entrepreneurship Podcast, esteemed hosts Alan Clarke and Bhairav Patel engage in a conversation surrounding the crucial importance of self-care within the realm of entrepreneurship. In a world where we value and promote relentless productivity, self-nurturing is too often brushed aside. The reality is, our business landscape serves as fertile grounds for individuals seeking to invest their spirit and mental energy in the fruits of their own labour, with dedication often veering towards self-neglect.The journey of the business mastermind is fraught with challenges that weigh heavy on mind and spirit. In the pursuit of success, the well-being of individuals is often lost in the equation. However, true success relies on the entrepreneur's ability to extend the same kindness to oneself as they do to their venture. Recognition of this importance bolsters emotional and mental wellbeing, and serves to rejuvenate the human spirit at the heart of the venture, enhancing the chance of sustainable success in business.

"Accountability is not the responsibility of a community. In fact, when I look at accountability partners or those people who you say are buddies that are to hold you accountable, in actuality, accountability is your responsibility and the record of your success. "The streak is the accountability partner. The number of days in a row, the record that you have is your accountability. You either did it or you didn't, and therefore you're either accountable to keeping the streak alive or accountable for letting it die. Either way, it's totally up to you. Building a Supportive Culture: Leadership Lessons from Ted Lasso

Maximize Your Potential

Welcome, everyone, to the third episode of our series on Leadership Lessons from Ted Lasso. In today's session, we will explore the topic of Building a Supportive Culture. We'll take a closer look at how Ted Lasso fosters camaraderie, support, and inclusivity within his team, resulting in a cohesive unit that thrives together. Ted's approach to leadership provides valuable insights that can be applied to various aspects of our personal and professional lives. Let's dive right in!Teaching Point 1: Lead by Example Ted Lasso is known for leading by example and setting the tone for a supportive culture within the team. He demonstrates this through his actions, words, and attitude. One example of this is when he goes out of his way to learn about his players' personal lives and show genuine interest and concern. By doing so, he creates an atmosphere of trust and openness that allows his team members to feel comfortable and supported.Teaching Point 2: Encourage Collaboration Ted believes in the power of collaboration and encourages his team to work together towards a common goal. He fosters an environment where individuals feel comfortable sharing their ideas, opinions, and concerns without fear of judgment. This approach promotes teamwork and ensures that everyone's voices are heard. An example of this can be seen when Ted holds team meetings, where each member is encouraged to contribute and participate actively.Teaching Point 3: Embrace Diversity and Inclusion Inclusivity is a cornerstone of Ted's leadership style. He recognizes the value of diversity within the team and actively promotes an inclusive environment. Ted encourages his players to appreciate each other's differences, highlighting the strengths that come from diverse perspectives and backgrounds. He ensures that everyone feels respected, valued, and included, regardless of their differences. Ted's approach teaches us that a supportive culture is built upon acceptance, understanding, and appreciation of each other's unique qualities.Teaching Point 4: Celebrate Success and Learn from Failure Ted Lasso understands the importance of celebrating success and using failures as learning opportunities. He makes it a point to acknowledge and celebrate the team's achievements, both big and small. By doing so, he reinforces a positive culture that recognizes and appreciates individual and collective accomplishments. Additionally, Ted helps his team embrace failure as a stepping stone to growth and improvement. He encourages his players to learn from their mistakes, offering support and guidance along the way.Homework Assignment: For this week's homework assignment, I want you to reflect on your own leadership or team experiences and identify one area where you can improve in building a more supportive culture. Consider how you can implement the four teaching points we discussed today: leading by example, encouraging collaboration, embracing diversity and inclusion, and celebrating success while learning from failure. Write a short reflection paper outlining your observations and proposed actions. We'll discuss these reflections and share insights in our next session. Conclusion: Building a supportive culture is essential for creating a cohesive and successful team. Ted Lasso's leadership provides us with valuable lessons on fostering camaraderie, support, and inclusivity. Remember to lead by example, encourage collaboration, embrace diversity and inclusion, and celebrate success while learning from failure. Apply these principles in your own life and leadership roles to create a positive and supportive environment. I look forward to our next session, where we'll explore another aspect of leadership through the lens of Ted Lasso. Keep up the great work!

There are many ways to celebrate success. Here are a few ideas:·       Take some time for yourself. After working hard towards a goal, it's important to take some time to relax and recharge. This could mean taking a day off, going on vacation, or simply spending some time doing something you enjoy.·       Spend time with loved ones. Celebrating your success with the people you care about is a great way to feel supported and loved. This could mean going out to dinner, having a party, or simply spending some quality time together.·       Do something you've been wanting to do. When you achieve a goal, it's a great time to do something you've been wanting to do but haven't had the time for. ·       Give back to others. One of the best ways to celebrate success is to give back to others. This could mean volunteering your time, donating to charity, or simply being kind to someone in need.·       Celebrate in your own way. There is no right or wrong way to celebrate success. The most important thing is to do something that makes you feel good. So get creative and have fun!·       Be specific about what you're celebrating. What did you achieve? Why is it important to you? Taking the time to reflect on your success will help you appreciate it even more.·       Be grateful for your support system. Chances are, you didn't achieve your success on your own. Take some time to thank the people who helped you along the way.·       Don't forget to enjoy the moment. It's easy to get caught up in the next goal or challenge. But it's important to take some time to enjoy your success. Soak it in and savor the moment! Are you getting what you want or are you putting yourselves in a position someone could try and get the better of you? As a goal oriented individual, I used to find it tough to enjoy the journey as the target was still in the distance.  In doing that, you find there is almost NOTHING to celebrate.  The truth is, if you're wired to dream big and achieve grand ideas...there's always another level to conquer.  You're never done growing and learning.  So...celebrate, a little.  Tune in for what's working for me in achieving goals but a new found appreciation for being present and soaking up everything life throws and enjoying it a hell of a lot more!Featured Lyrics:  Aerosmith - Dream OnFollow me & the show on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/jeffstebbins1Turn It Up! It's mid-July. School is out which means it is a great time to have a return visit with Lucy Butler. Lucy is a special ed teacher who at the start of the 2021-2022 school year was given the assignment of working with all the students in her high school who had failed ninth grade the previous year. Lucy is also a horse owner. She attended my on-line clinics through the summer of 2021. Over Labor Day weekend she also attended our Science Camp, so she was very excited to apply the concepts of constructional training to her classroom students. We did an interview with Lucy just as she was finishing up the first half of the school year. She was learning how to celebrate success and her students were thriving. You can listen to that interview in Episode 172 through 174. At the half way point through the school year some of the students were reassigned to other teachers so a natural experiment was taking place. Some of the students would be going through the whole year with Lucy, others would have her part time, others would not be working with her at all in the second half of the year. Of course we wanted to hear how the year turned out for her students. In part 1 of our conversation we review with Lucy some of the major lessons from the first half of the year and we learn how her students did through the full arc of the school year. If you have a child in school, you will very much want to listen to this podcast. (And yes, we do manage to connect the dots to horses.)

We all have personal goals. But, as we strive to achieve them, it can be difficult to recognize those milestones along the way. By their own admission entrepreneurs have chosen a vocation with no end in sight, but with this limitless potential comes fierce determination – hardly a recipe for celebrating success. In Episode 3, Season 3 of Making It Work, we speak to Stephanie Duncan of Harmony Harvest Farm, Chait Razdan of Care+Wear, Jacquelyn Rodgers of Greentop Gifts and Logan LaMance of Kanga Coolers. So how do small business owners celebrate their accomplishments? And why are some of them so bad at it? Tune in to find out.

“The worst thing in life is not that you don't hit a home run. The worst thing in life is that you hit a home run and no one's in the stands watching.” Success happens when an achievement has been witnessed and celebrated. Our own lives and the lives of those around us will improve dramatically if we actively and passionately celebrate each other's success. Take time to handwrite a letter or make a video message to offer compliments and praise. You'll see what happens when people know that they're cherished.
