In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about USC's big 2025 Signing Day press conference where they heard from head coach Lincoln Riley and all of the new coaching and personnel staff members. The Trojans have added some impressive talents and personalities that should help this program get to the next level. Both Ryan and Connor were very optimistic about the new hires after the press conference, with assistant head coach for defense and linebackers coach Rob Ryan standing out for his outgoing personality and exceptional story telling. They were also impressed with Chad Savage as tight ends and inside receivers coach and Trovon Reed as the new cornerbacks coach, both young coaches are exceptional on the recruiting trail and should help the Trojans tremendously. It does appear that USC will be losing one staff member with assistant linebackers coach Bryson Allen-Williams heading to Georgia according to a 247Sports report. On the personnel side, Chad Bowden coming over from Notre Dame is looking like a homerun hire. He is filling out his staff, with the latest edition being Wisconsin general manager Max Stienecker who will join the previously announced Zaire Turner hired as the new assistant AD of recruiting Operations and Dre Brown as the executive director of scouting and personnel. The guys also talk about the two new additions to the roster, with USC announcing the signing of Jadyn Ramos, a defensive end from Conroe (Texas) and AJ Tuitele, a linebacker from Mojave (Nev.). Interview with Dan Flores, retired United States Army, Customs and Border Protection and EMS pilot.Years of Service: 1985-2022Daniel Flores is a lifelong Texan. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1985, attending Infantry training at Ft. Benning Ga. He then served in the 4th Infantry Division in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After his active-duty time, he then served in the Texas Army National Guard's special operations unit; Company G. 143rd Infantry LRRP (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol). In 1990 Mr. Flores went to Army flight school to become an Apache helicopter pilot with 7th Squadron 6th Cavalry Regiment, based in Conroe Texas.In 2006 he was deployed as the attack asset for the 10th Mountain Division. He was in the infamous Korengal Valley and numerous outposts in the Hindu Kush mountains and along the Pakistani border.He wrote a #1 bestselling book telling of his experience flying the Apache helicopter in combat and was instrumental in the success of the movie "Apache Warrior" as a Co-Executive producer.The title of his book is “South of Heaven, My Year in Afghanistan”. From his book the film “Above the Best” was made. The film uses actual footage taken from his Apache helicopter in combat.He received the “The Air Medal” and “Bronze Star” and retired after 26+ years in the Army. He also flew airplanes and helicopters for 21 years, for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as an Air Interdiction Agent before retiring in July 2020. He has been deployed to the U.S./Mexico border and South America on numerous occasions for operations against the Drug Trafficking Cartels and the illegal immigrant surge.He currently flies Helicopters as an EMS pilot, in the Houston area.

He was witness to the resurgence of the Taliban and was involved in numerous gun battles and had his aircraft hit several times during those battles.One of those battles was featured on “The Military Channels” series “My War Diary” which told about an American convoy that he helped rescue from a Taliban ambush.He wrote a book that tells about his experiences, and was instrumental in the success of the movie "Apache Warrior" as a Co-Executive producer.The title of that book is “South of Heaven, My Year in Afghanistan.”From his book the multiple award winning film Above the Best was made. 1-18-22 Tonight we're talking with Mike and Cathy Rape, owners of The Ferm Meadery in Conroe, TX. They're making great mead and having a good time spreading mead, music and food around to their customers. Cathy and Mike are native Texans, and grew up in Conroe, TX. They've been married 26yrs and have 3 grown kids and a grandchild. They also own and operate a company that provides temporary power and temperature control mostly for live events. Around the time their kids became teenagers (Because "teenagers") they started home winemaking as a hobby that they could both enjoy together. They were introduced to mead on a business trip to Georgia at the Savannah Bee Co. After that, they were hooked and started focusing almost exclusively on mead making and dreaming of starting a meadery someday. They visited as many meaderies as they could find and attended classes on mead making at UC Davis and the Winemaker Magazine Conference. They also apprenticed ourselves under local meadmakers Bruce and Bridget Leslie of Griffin Meadery (now Punkin Vinyards) as well as Jon Odom of Enchanted Manor Meadery. Once it became apparent that "14 days to slow the spread" was looking more like the end of live events for the foreseeable future & their event business came to a halt they started talking about moving "someday" to now. With lots of time to spare during the lockdowns, they signed a lease on a 1940's building on the Downtown Conroe square and began renovation. They were thrilled to discover they were part of a movement to revitalize the Downtown Conroe food and beverage, nightlife, and live music scene. They opened their tasting room in March of 2021 offering a variety of still meads, sessions, charcuterie boards, and live entertainment. Special Guest - Daniel Flores Dan is a lifelong Texan. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1985 and then served in the 4th Infantry Division in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After his active-duty time was over, he served in the Texas Army National Guard's special operations unit; Company G. 143rd Infantry LRRP (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol). In 1990 Mr. Flores went to Army flight school to become an Apache helicopter pilot with 7th Squadron 6th Cavalry Regiment, based in Conroe Texas. In 2006 he was deployed as the attack asset for the 10 th Mountain Division. He was assigned to the northeast sector, which included the infamous Korengal Valley, and numerous outposts in the Hindu Kush mountains and along the Pakistani border. He wrote a #1 bestselling book “South of Heaven, My Year in Afghanistan” telling of his experience flying the Apache helicopter in combat, and was instrumental in the success of the movie "Apache Warrior." From his book the film “Above the Best” was made. “Above the Best” premiered in March 2019 and promptly won the “Reel Hero” award at the GIFF (Gasparilla International Film Festival, in Tampa Fl.) and then numerous awards since. The film uses actual footage taken from his Apache helicopter in combat. The film has also been enshrined into the National Infantry Museum at Fort Benning. He also flew airplanes and helicopters for 21 years, for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as an Air Interdiction Agent before retiring July 2020. He has been deployed to the U.S./Mexico border, and South America, on numerous occasions for operations against the Drug trafficking Cartels and the illegal immigrant surge. Howard Grant is a man known by many names but to me, he’s Dad. He joins me on season three of the podcast to discuss the private and dark thoughts that he has held for over thirty years and discusses the consequences that nearly took his life. Under the leadership of Bishop Johnson, at twenty one years old, Grant led many to Christ. Evangelizing to those in Mexico, Canada, Houston, Temple, Conroe [Texas] until finally settling down with his family of four in a small town in Central Texas. Pastor Grant established churches in Lake Charles and Jennings, Louisiana before becoming a pastor of his own church in the late eighties. While a ministering at Deliverance Temple Holiness Church in Temple, Texas, Grant was known for his extremely radical services. He moved around the lyrics for songs that were recognized by Jimmy Hendrix fans and reincarnated them into soulful melodies hummed on Sunday mornings. Members were known to “clock in” for fellowship services that lasted over four to six hours with many expressions on praise and worship. Yet, his dogmatic views on “Homosexuality, Misogyny and Modesty” were just a few reasons that he was highlighted and featured in the Texas Monthly Magazine in the 1980’s and The Austin American-Statesman newspaper. Members led aggressive street teams to witness to sinners by explaining that they would, “Die and go to Hell” without Christ’s teaching, under Grant’s leadership. This despotic doctrine led members to eventually cast out The Grants from their own church when their pastor was found to be in a controversial position that did not align with the church’s views. Even if it meant removing their own evangelist, congregants were hurt, confused and decidedlysevered all ties with Grant. Turning to self medicate his inward wounds and feed his personal demons, we soon see how the cloak to blend in and escape God took on a thirty year journey to know how to speak to The Waymaker. With Howard’s voice today, we hear his truth. More importantly, we speak on God’s forgiveness and never ending love, mercy and grace. We walk away knowing that God will never give up on you even if you have given up on yourself. There are many names that people have called Howard Grant; Judge, Prophet Grant, Baby Unknown Grant, Dad… but it’s not what people call you, it’s how they relate to you. Dad and I discuss how his interpretation of my dream was the inception of the podcast and how exactly my “Moses Project” came to be. We discuss his years in ministry, his past struggles and how he lost his voice; literally and physically. We hope that you can relate to my Dad’s story this evening and that you are blessed by the sound of his voice. Side Note: The song played at the end of the podcast is called, “Like a Good Neighbor” by The Rance Allen Group.
