TW talks of mental health issues and self-harm The teenage years can be the most challenging years for many people.. yet for some reason they seem to be forgotten by mental health services and this is why Rach knew something needed to change Today I speak to Rach Freidili, a Teen Whisperer and Connection coach who works with teen girls and their mothers on reconnecting and building strong relationships She spoke about her own story and why this took her to this type of work How teenage boys and teenage girls' brains work differently That seeing her own daughter spiral during COVID was what led her down this path That teenagers lead by example so if you don't take care of yourself they won't do it either The importance of learning your own triggers when your daughters are kicking off and ways to manage it we also talk about how those around her reacted to her when she decided to tackle this issue and if they've changed their opinions sometimes how to integrate self-care into your day and that it can be as simple as a 5 min meditation The effect social media has on both teenage girls and women That our brains work differently because of our cycles and it's just not talked about enough Rach also has a really simple piece of advice at the end that we all need to hear sometimes If you want to find out more about working with Rach you can find her: Website. www.positivetouch.net Instagram: @teen.whisperer.nature Facebook: @positivetouch Podcast for mums: Teen whisperer Podcast for Teen girls: Be Yourself If you are interested in working with me you can find me : Equestrian Instagram: @stronginthesaddle_ Equestrian Tiktok: @ stronginthesaddle Happy Hips for horseriding PDF: https://landing.mailerlite.com/webforms/landing/b4y0n6 Website: www.chrissyhawkins.com Instagram: @chrissyhfitness Want my FREE Kickstarter workout guide? My guest this week is Kirsten Cobabe. In this episode, Kirsten and I discuss parenting teens. There are so many parts of parenting teens, tweens, and young adults during the developmental phases that can feel tricky to us, as well as for caregivers and kids. Teens are not adults; they're also not little kids. It can be tough to know when to intervene and support, or when to back off. And some days it can feel like we are wrong no matter what we do. Let's explore what makes adolescents at this age tick, the ways we might be misunderstanding what's happening for them even when we have the best intentions, how we can best connect and communicate with them, and lots more tips for parenting teens with Teen Whisperer, Kirsten Cobabe. Kirsten is a social worker therapist turned coach who supports parents to navigate the waves of adolescence, while learning how to talk with teens by becoming authentically curious and truly present. As an advocate for families for two decades, she helps parents and teens transform their most important relationships from the inside out. She engages families in fostering rapport, cultivating conscious connections, reframing stories and restoring harmony in the home, and believes through raising our consciousness, we can raise the next generation. Adolescence. What a challenging time! I know I'm not alone when I say I would never want to go back to my teen years. Despite having some amazing experiences, I was an emotional mess. Parenting adolescents is challenging, too! It can bring out the best and worst in us as parents. I keep seeing how my unhealed wounds are activated when my kids move through the developmental phase in which those wounds originated. I see how easy it is for me to project my experiences onto them - if I'm not paying attention. Parenting is not for the faint of heart. In order to avoid (or minimize) passing our shit on to our kids, it's crucial that we be emotionally aware and engaged in our own healing. It also feels important to start reframing adolescence - not as something to tolerate or survive - but as a beautiful opportunity for disrupting outdated patterns in ourselves, our families, and society. My guest today absolutely adores adolescents. She gets them in ways others don't. She has the uncanny ability to translate teenage behavior to well-meaning parents. Kirsten Cobabe is a former therapist, now a teen and family coach, who has helped countless adolescents and their families understand each other more and build connection and hope. I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did! A little about Kirsten: Kirsten has worked with families for over twenty years, supporting parents and young people to navigate the waves of adolescence by becoming authentically curious and truly present. During her time as a social worker, she was coined the Teen Whisperer. Her ability to meet young people where they are and invite parents into this world offers a new space for connection; a modern lens of radical acceptance. Kirsten guides families into an empowered, joyful and connected life during some of the most transformative years. She has coached countless parents and caregivers, guiding them toward a recalibrating and strengthening of their relationship with their teens. While recognizing the unique struggles of this generation, Kirsten also sees the need to nourish the creative force behind each person she is fortunate to encounter. As we raise our consciousness, we can raise the next generation. Amen!
