El reclutamiento en Colombia es un flagelo latente que sufren muchos menores de edad. En 2025 se registraron 386 casos de niños, niñas y adolescentes. Una violación a los derechos humanos que va en aumento especialmente en la región del Cauca, en el suroccidente colombiano, donde la población indígena es la más afectada. ¿Pero qué pasa con la presencia del Estado? ¿Por qué se los llevan? ¿Cómo lo hacen? ¿Y qué papel protagónico están jugando las redes sociales? RFI se desplazó al departamento del Cauca, para intentar entender esta crisis.   "A los 15 años me encontraron trabajando en una finca. Cuando llegaron, me dijeron que si yo quería ser parte de ese grupo. Me recogieron y ahí fue donde me llevaron", cuenta Juan, cuyo nombre ha sido cambiado por seguridad y hace parte de las vergonzosas cifras de reclutamiento de menores que tiene la guerra en Colombia. 386 casos se registraron en el país en 2025, según datos oficiales, pero los números reales son mayores. El miedo inunda estas comunidades, que dicen sentirse desamparadas y controladas por grupos armados. El Cauca es el departamento donde hay mayor reclutamiento. Conviven grupos como las disidencias de las FARC, el ELN, bandas criminales y de allí viene Juan, del norte. Solo pasó una semana mientras lo convencían para que se fuera con uno de estos actores armados. "Me dejé convencer por el dinero, pues cuando yo llegué casi no conocía a la gente. Encontraba más jóvenes muchas veces mayores que uno o menores que uno. Son grupos que no sabría cómo diferenciarlos, porque son cosas que uno muchas veces no entiende de la guerra", cuenta el joven.  A los niños se los llevan a la fuerza o los seducen, pero en cualquier caso hablamos de reclutamiento forzado explica la mayor del Concejo Regional Indígena del Cauca (CRIC) Nini Johana Daza. "Hoy los grupos armados desafortunadamente lo han tomado como un factor importante escoger nuestros jóvenes, nuestras niñas y niños y convencerlos de que allá hay una oportunidad económica y quizás de que podrán tener mejores oportunidades. Entonces, se los llevan convencidos", indicó Daza al resaltar que, al tratarse de menores de edad, la persuasión también responde a este flagelo. "Mientras nosotros evidenciamos que ha habido una desventaja en ofrecerle oportunidades distintas a nuestros jóvenes, niños y niñas, de alguna forma es reclutamiento forzado porque están forzando a ver oportunidades donde realmente es una situación de muerte, que no lo vemos de otra manera".   Juan a sus 15 años ganaba 150 dólares mensuales trabajando en el campo y le prometieron 500 dólares mensuales si se iba a ese grupo armado. "Me dijeron que las cosas allá eran bien, que allá iba a tener un recurso para sustentarme, quería ayudar a mi familia", dice Juan, pero ese deseo solo le duró el primer mes, porque el dinero después no llegó.    Las redes sociales como arma de reclutamiento en auge  A algunos los contactan personalmente. Son extraños, amigos o enamorados, pero hay algo que está irrumpiendo de forma masiva y preocupa a organizaciones, padres y profesores, explica María Mercedes Lievano directora para Colombia de la ONG Save The Children: "Estos grupos están abogando en las redes sociales a una velocidad impresionante para seducir a los niños en estos territorios, haciendo una apología a la narco cultura, al poder, al dinero, a las motos”, indicó Lievano, agregando que dichos grupos armados se han especializado en estrategias de marketing muy robustas. "Dependiendo del sector o de la región del país, usa vallenatos (música) y apologías, entonces publican 'súmate a las filas', 'únete y tendrás poder', reconocimiento y, pues realmente tienen todas esas estrategias de seducción y captación para ser atractivos y vender una cultura, una falsa promesa de que vincularse a estos grupos les va a resolver muchos de sus problemas", indicó. El profesor Carlos, cuya escuela está en una zona rural del Cauca, sabe muy bien estos casos. "Conozco un caso de un chico que empezó a hablar con una niña muy bonita a través de Facebook. Se pusieron cita semanalmente como 5 veces y a la quinta semana de estar conversando, un comandante de un grupo al margen de la ley corre a la niña que estaba hablando y le dice: 'Juan, sabemos dónde vives, tu papá se llama tal y tu mamá se llama tal, el viernes te presentas acá o si no los vamos a matar a todos'. A él le tocó dejar botado todo con sus papás e irse, y eso fue a través de un engaño estructurado a través de las redes sociales", cuenta el docente.  Carlos indicó que a algunas jóvenes que reclutan a otros les pagan hasta  20.000.0000 de pesos (aproximadamente 5.000 dólares). "Es casi que una industria que está en este momento en auge. Tenemos niños reclutados desde los 10, 12 y 13 años", agregó.    Este profesor, a quien se le ha cambiado el nombre por seguridad, tiene que ver a algunos de sus pequeños estudiantes pasar de multiplicar a ponerse un uniforme, pues según las últimas cifras anuales de la Defensoría del Pueblo, casi la mitad de los menores tomados por el conflicto tienen menos de 15 años.     Cada 20 horas al menos un niño en algún rincón de Colombia es reclutado por un grupo armado, cuenta María Mercedes Lievano, quien resalta el miedo extremo que sienten estos menores. “Cuando van caminando a su escuela y encuentran un artefacto explosivo en mitad del camino o, por ejemplo, de aquellos niños o niñas que nos cuentan que una vez ya entran a las filas de los grupos armados, son niños de 10, 12 años que estando en la selva o combatiendo, y viven un terror muy grande”.   “Sienten la muerte todo el tiempo”  Además de los combates, en ocasiones son víctimas de violaciones y abusos sexuales, señala la directora de la ONG, quien recuerda que estos niños no tienen un entrenamiento, los tratan como adultos y cuentan el doble miedo que sienten cuando están en enfrentamientos. “El primero de que lo van a matar por impacto de bala y el segundo de que si se llega a esconder o se llega a escapar, igual va morir porque él tiene la amenaza que tienes que combatir y no te puedes escapar de estos grupos. De alguna manera, sienten la muerte todo el tiempo", señaló.   La sensación de que la muerte lo perseguía fue lo que hizo escapar a Juan de las filas en las que se encontraba desde hace dos años.  "Cuando uno siente que una bala casi se lo lleva a uno, esos son los momentos en los que no piensa en salirse de allá. Lo peor que me pudo haber pasado fue perder compañeros. Que en algún momento quise y aprecié como si hubieran sido hermanos de sangre. Muchas veces me quería volar, pero me daba miedo de que algo me pasara". Tras muchos intentos, Juan logró escapar, pues lo que más lo frenaba era el miedo de correr con la misma suerte de sus compañeros, quienes "muchas veces no alcanzan a escaparse y los matan".   Juan tiene algunas marcas en su cuerpo; los entrenamientos también son exigentes, dice. Los nuevos reclutas son utilizados para labores de extorsión, vigilancia, inteligencia o incluso en primera línea de enfrentamientos con la fuerza pública u otros rivales.   Dicho conocimiento lo tienen algunos ex integrantes de las Farc, quienes son objeto de chantaje por los grupos actuales, asegura un excombatiente y firmante de los diálogos de paz de 2016, que no dio su nombre por seguridad. "Hay algunas personas que en el pasado posiblemente fueron colaboradores nuestros y que hoy, conociendo nuestra condición de firmantes, buscan atraer al padre, por la experiencia que tenía, pero en consecuencia de la respuesta negativa de los padres, algunos estúpidos mandos medios nuevos de ellos usaban como forma de presión atraer a los hijos de estos", señaló el excombatiente de las Farc, agregando que algunos casos están denunciados y otros "lamentablemente ya perdieron a sus hijos en la guerra".    Abandono del Estado    ¿Pero por qué los grupos armados logran ejercer control de esta manera? ¿Y qué pasa con el Estado? La directora de Save the Children señala que uno de los mayores problemas que favorecen estas prácticas es el aislamiento en el que viven ciertos territorios.   "Hay que entender que en un país como Colombia desafortunadamente hay regiones donde el acceso es muy limitado, incluso para ONG humanitarias por temas de riesgo. Esa expansión de conflicto armado lo que genera es un una expansión del control social sobre las comunidades y las comunidades están amenazadas. Las comunidades tienen miedo, no denuncian”, subrayó Lievano, alegando que falta mayor presencia estatal, programas sociales y calidad educativa.   “Nosotros tenemos en el país territorios donde los niños a los 9 años no saben leer y comprender un texto simple, eso es pobreza de aprendizaje y eso hace que los perdemos rápidamente. Son niños que desertan del sistema educativo y son los que tienen mayor riesgo de incurrir en acciones delictivas", señaló. Ante el abandono del Estado, algunas comunidades han desarrollado mecanismos para rescatar a sus niños de la guerra, es el caso del “Camino de Enraizamiento”, un programa del Consejo Regional Indígena del Cauca (CRIC) con apoyo del Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar (ICBF) que busca fortalecer los derechos de las menores víctimas de reclutamiento, una vez logran regresar a sus hogares, dice la mayora Daza, quien lamenta la dificultad para encontrar a los jóvenes, pues los grupos armados, a veces, los desplazan a otros departamentos para que sea más difícil encontrarlos, denunció.     Más allá de la atención, estas comunidades también rescatan, no siempre los chicos y las chicas logran escapar. A veces son las mismas madres quienes van en busca de sus hijos arriesgando sus vidas o la guardia indígena, indica José Tenorio, coordinador político de este organismo perteneciente al CRIC, que tiene tres modalidades de recuperación de menores de edad. "Una es cuando los menores de edad nos llaman desde el grupo armado que están arrepentidos por volarse. Entonces, con la autoridad en conjunto con la Guardia, vamos a buscar y hablar con el grupo armado para que haya una entrega de manera voluntaria. La segunda es cuando hay menores que no se quieren ir, entonces se rodea al grupo armado de manera contundente y se exige la liberación en la entrega al menor de edad y un tercer momento es comunicarse con los grupos armados para que entreguen al menor", dice Tenorio, recordando los riesgos de esta tarea. "No es fácil, corre con dos riesgos: que lo maten a uno por recuperar a un menor de edad o que terminen muertos los dos".   Los padres, los maestros, las comunidades, pero sobre todo los niños, niñas y adolescentes sufren con el drama del reclutamiento forzado que en los últimos cinco años en Colombia ha aumentado un 300%. Es la desgarradora cifra de Naciones Unidas, según casos verificados, pero todas las entidades hablan de un subregistro por miedo. Porque si algo va de la mano del reclutamiento, es el miedo a hablar de ello, miedo a denunciarlo, miedo a admitir que se está trabajando para frenarlo. Mientras tanto, los grupos armados aumentan sus filas en gran parte con esas niñas, niños y adolescentes a los que el Estado colombiano les ha fallado constantemente.   Algunas voces y nombres fueron cambiados por seguridad.

It is well known that ultrasound has exploded in its application in both diagnostics and procedures and has ultimately revolutionized the way we practice medicine. With its growing use, more and more providers are comfortable using ultrasound for both identification of anatomy/pathology and to guide procedures that were previously only done with landmarks. While having the skills to perform landmark guided procedures is incredibly important, there is much value in being able to visually confirm anatomy to avoid procedure complications, especially when landmarks are difficult to palpate / identify in certain individuals. Deepak's daughter Aditi is a ranked junior in the UK Squash system and competes in junior events across Europe.
