Unlawful Killing

Continuing with the artistic theme, this episode focuses on visual power of the protest banner. Lucy and Lee talk to campaigner Susan Alexander, whose son Azelle Rodney, an unarmed Black man, was fatally shot by a Met Police officer just a week after his 24th birthday. Susan talks about the heavy toll of state failures on her and her family and how art is both a tonic for grief and a tool for community campaigning. Susan commissioned a banner in memory of Azelle, in his favourite colour blue, to take along to United Friends and Families Campaign marches, which memorialise lost loved ones. She tells Lucy and Lee about the banner — made by trade union and protest banner-making extraordinaire Ed Hall — and the impact it has on her and others when carrying it on the marches. Find out more about the United Friends and Families Campaign (UFFC) (https://uffcampaign.org/) Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Cryptic Creatures, Chimeras, Contactees, and the Cleverly Coded Coincidences of the Collective Unconscious - In the 1960s, on a West Virginia backroad, Andy Colvin and his family and friends had encounters with the entity popularly known as "Mothman." Following those encounters, Colvin found that he could draw, sing, and take photographs, and that he had a photographic memory. Colvin was recognized as a prodigy, and was eventually offered a National Merit scholarship to Harvard University. While attending graduate school at the Univ. of Texas at Austin, Colvin helped found U.T.'s celebrated Transmedia Dept. as well as the Austin Film Society, an organization now credited with bringing commercial filmmaking to Texas. In 1985, Colvin used his tuition grant money to purchase the only 8mm camcorder then available, becoming the first filmmaker in Austin to shoot in the new format. His ensuing documentation of the lives of Austin "slackers" influenced the seminal cult hit that defined Generation X, "Slacker" - a project for which Colvin helped raise funds and equipment. Colvin's band, Ed Hall, appeared in the film and on the soundtrack. Following graduate school, Colvin worked on Hollywood films, toured with his experimental band, The Interdimensional Vortex League (once named America's "most underground band" by Europe's hip arts magazine, "Blitz"), and began making small, ethnographic documentaries about unusual tribes, subcultures, and personalities. His 25-year study of modern Texans, "Multislack," is due out in 2012. Colvin's work has been seen or heard in all 50 states, and in several foreign countries. His writing has been featured in various magazines, including Paranoia, The Stranger, and "D'Art," the arts journal for the Church of the Subgenius. Colvin's unique career has been studded with various mind-blowing, synchronistic events, some of which allowed him to study with, or work with, some of the greatest creative minds of the 20th Century, including Nam June Paik, Lee Friedlander, Keith Haring, Dennis Hopper, David Lynch, Robert Anton Wilson, Laurie Anderson, Daniel Johnston, Vito Acconci, Bruce Bickford, and the Butthole Surfers. - www.forteanswest.com******************************************************************To listen to all our XZBN shows, with our compliments go to: https://www.spreaker.com/user/xzoneradiotv*** AND NOW ***The ‘X' Zone TV Channel on SimulTV - www.simultv.comThe ‘X' Chronicles Newspaper - www.xchroniclesnewspaper.com ******************************************************************

“A letter to Kelly Johnson” was a bonus part of “Blackbird: The Movie” A film by Lockheed. I recommend you go see it. For today's episode, I have 5 people here who CAN follow that act. The guys who maintained it. The reality of operating the SR was that with all of its technology and grace, it needed a lot of maintenance. And rightfully so. Can you imagine being tasked with learning every nut bolt, spacer, mount, bearing, expansion joint, seam, and seal in the world's most amazing aircraft? I think it's safe to say it wasn't like working on any other aircraft at the time, or ever since, and for the crews tasked with keeping it ready to go at all times, it wasn't like supporting anything else… Today we hear their stories. And if you even think for a second that the maintenance side of things isn't for you, think again. The 5 histories you're going to hear today will change the way you think about maintenance forever, and each story will teach you something you'll take with you, and think about every time you touch an airplane from now on. The SR is capable of going so high and fast that it'll get hotter than an oven just from friction, but ever wonder what happens if you get it wet? What happens if you catch fire during refueling and end up stranding one in Ogden, UT? Or what to do if you're going to run out of Nitrogen, before you run out of fuel…   Support: https://www.patreon.com/podcastingonaplane Buy me a coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/BravoGolf YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCx1DKOUuGxohHU5YxEC_w0w?view_as=subscriber Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/podcastingonaplane/ Twitter: podcastonaplane Website: www.podcastingonaplane.com   Music by: Yeti Music and Fracture Design

“A letter to Kelly Johnson” was a bonus part of “Blackbird: The Movie” A film by Lockheed. I recommend you go see it.For today’s episode, I have 5 people here who CAN follow that act. The guys who maintained it.The reality of operating the SR was that with all of its technology and grace, it needed a lot of maintenance. And rightfully so. Can you imagine being tasked with learning every nut bolt, spacer, mount, bearing, expansion joint, seam, and seal in the world’s most amazing aircraft?I think it’s safe to say it wasn’t like working on any other aircraft at the time, or ever since, and for the crews tasked with keeping it ready to go at all times, it wasn’t like supporting anything else…Today we hear their stories. And if you even think for a second that the maintenance side of things isn’t for you, think again. The 5 histories you’re going to hear today will change the way you think about maintenance forever, and each story will teach you something you’ll take with you, and think about every time you touch an airplane from now on.The SR is capable of going so high and fast that it’ll get hotter than an oven just from friction, but ever wonder what happens if you get it wet? What happens if you catch fire during refueling and end up stranding one in Ogden, UT? Or what to do if you’re going to run out of Nitrogen, before you run out of fuel… Support: https://www.patreon.com/podcastingonaplaneBuy me a coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/BravoGolfYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCx1DKOUuGxohHU5YxEC_w0w?view_as=subscriberInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/podcastingonaplane/Twitter: podcastonaplaneWebsite: www.podcastingonaplane.com Music by: Yeti Music and Fracture Design

In Can You Ever Forgive Me? Melissa McCarthy stars as Lee Israel, the best-selling biographer of celebrities such as Katharine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, Estee Lauder and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen. In the early 1990s - when she was in her early 50s - Lee found herself unable to get published because she had fallen out of step with the marketplace. Unable to pay the rent (or the vet bills for her beloved cat) she turned her art form to deception, aided by her loyal friend Jack Hock (Richard E. Grant). You Know You Want This is the debut collection of short stories from Kristen Roupenian whose short story, Cat Person, became a viral sensation after being published by the New Yorker in December 2017. It became their most read story ever, with more than 2.6 million hits and counting. Included in this collection alongside 11 new stories which are described as examining "the pull and push of revulsion and attraction between people." Winner of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Martyna Majok’s Cost of Living receives its highly anticipated UK Premiere at Hampstead Theatre starring Adrian Lester and directed by Ed Hall. John, a wealthy, brilliant, and successful PhD student with cerebral palsy, hires Jess, a recent graduate who has fallen on hard times, as his new carer. Across town, truck driver Eddie attempts to support and re-engage with his estranged wife, Ani, following a terrible accident that has left her quadriplegic. As four very different lives collide and entwine, roles are unapologetically flipped, reversed and exposed - who is actually caring for whom? A Place That Exists Only in the Moonlight: Katie Paterson and JM Turner at the Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate is the largest UK exhibition of Scottish artist Katie Paterson to date - paired by the artist with a group of works by JMW Turner. Works by Paterson included in the exhibition are Vatnajökull (the sound of), Earth-Moon-Earth and a new work, Cosmic Spectrum, the result of working with scientists Paterson creates a spinning wheel which charts the colour of the universe through each era of its existence. And a look at two recent reality television releases; the BAFTA nominated BBC 3 series Eating With My Ex - in which former couples are reunited over dinner to pick over the bones of their failed relationships - and Channel 4's Flirty Dancing which aims to match singletons based on their love of dance. Each hopeful will learn half a routine, taught by Dancing on Ice judge and Diversity star Ashley Banjo, which they will perform as a couple when they meet for the first time.
