In the last episode, I told you the first part of the story of three-year-old Arabella Parker, who was rushed to the hospital on October 10, 2019, reportedly suffering from a seizure. In November of 2016, the Guy parents had announced they sold their home in Knoxville, Tennessee to retire and move to Joel Sr.'s late mother's home in Surgoinsville, TN. They were holding their last family dinner at their home on Thanksgiving where the entire family would be attending before they all looked forward to having Christmas dinner in Joel and Lisa's new home. Their son, Joel Guy, Jr. had attended this dinner. He had been financially reliant on his parents, never having a job but living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 600 miles from his parents' home for the past decade. When he found out he was to be financially cut-off by his parents after their retirement, rage ensued and the most gruesome crime scene was left in his parents' home that the officers on the case had ever seen. Brett Wittner Fourteen-year-old high school freshman Brett Wittner of Covington, Louisiana, was brought into the St. Tammany Parish Hospital the morning of Feb. 25, 2012, with a gunshot wound an inch or so behind his right ear. The bullet had fragmented, and bits of it had made their way toward the left side of his head, causing extensive damage to his brain, according to medical records. He died later that day. The police determined that Brett had accidentally shot himself while at a friend’s house. A grand jury subsequently examined the case and declined to indict anyone. However, Brett’s parents don’t agree with that finding and are continuing to look for avenues that will lead to a different outcome. On April 30, 2011, Kevin Griffin called 9-1-1 to his apartment in Villa Rica, Georgia, stating his girlfriend, 22-year-old Samantha Sutton, was on the floor and unresponsive. Responding medical personnel were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead. A subsequent autopsy determined her death was caused by an accidental drug overdose. However, her mother, Dee Sutton, doesn’t buy that and believes she has the evidence to prove it.
The goal of The Transparency Project is to help families who are survivors of victims of murder or suspicious death, to gain access to police records related to the investigation of the death of their loved one. This will primarily involve making sure the police agency involved is complying in full with the Sunshine or Open Records laws in effect in their particular jurisdiction. It can include filing appeals when requests for records are denied, and/or recommending changes to existing laws that are overly restrictive.

Josh Melville is the son of Sam Melville, who known in 1960s history as “the mad bomber.” Sam Melville is considered by some historians to be the architect of modern political radicalism in the United States. In 1969 he executed bombings of 8 government institutions. His motivations were stated as corporate imperialism, specifically the US involvement in the Vietnam War, social and racial inequality. Melville was subsequently incarcerated in New York’s Attica maximum security prison, where he waged a one-man war against prison administration. He was there in September 1971, when inmates took control of the prison for four days in what became the bloodiest prison uprising in US history. He was killed by police when they stormed the prison, shot at close range while unarmed.
This episode highlights the 2006 disappearance and presumed death of Michelle Hutchings of Clinton, New York. The then 27-year-old was last seen on Bleeker Street in Utica on July 30, 2006. January 2004 in Maysville, Oklahoma, Sheila Deviney dropped her children off at school, returned and was burned to death in her home. Initially ruled an accidental house fire it was later discovered that flammable fluid was found around her body. The facts of the case state she was in an abusive relationship with her ex-husband resulting in custody and child support issues. There has never been any charges filed in this case. Sheila's mother, Susan Deviney, joins the show to inform listeners on the details of the case and updates in their search for justice.

Jeannie Walker wrote a true crime story about the arsenic poison murder of her ex-husband, a Texas millionaire.
