We are less than two weeks away from the start of Thom's Australia visit. We have a range of tour events scheduled, including free introductory talks and a learn to meditate course for those who are new to Vedic Meditation. If you've completed a qualified Vedic Meditation course, we invite you to join Tom for knowledge sessions, group meditations and a one-day retreat he has scheduled in Sydney. Thom is also offering a five-day four-night retreat in Gerringong, south of Sydney, as well as private mentoring sessions throughout the month. You can find out more about all of these offerings at thomknoles.com/sydney. Detachment is frequently sold as a necessary step for spiritual progress. We're taught that attachment is often the root of our suffering, so it stands to reason therefore, that detachment will bring about the opposite of suffering. But as Thom explains in this podcast episode, it's an understandable yet inaccurate conclusion that actually causes more suffering.Thom brings clarity to the subject, using the Vedic concept of vairagya, a state of being that allows us to fully enjoy the fruits of life, without the bondage of attachment.Episode Highlights[00:45] Maharishi Patanjali's Yoga Sutras[02:56] Siddhis - Developing Extraordinary Human Capabilities[05:36] A Spontaneous State of Non-attachment[09:48] A Witnessing Phenomenon[12:55] A Consequence of the Practice of Vedic Meditation[16:23] An Indication of Cosmic Consciousness[19:08] The Freedom of Spontaneous Non-attachmentUseful Linksinfo@thomknoles.com https://thomknoles.com/https://www.instagram.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.facebook.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.youtube.com/c/thomknoleshttps://thomknoles.com/ask-thom-anything/

Yoga is in fact much more than just these physical exercises, which are more correctly referred to as asanas. And believe it or not, asanas weren't created to make us look good in lycra! Asanas were first created to help prepare the body for meditation and union with The Absolute. In this episode, Thom explains how asanas, pranayama and Vedic Meditation are used in combination, also called ‘Rounding,' to give us ‘industrial-strength meditation' and to accelerate the benefits we get from ‘standard' meditation. He talks about the importance of proper instruction and supervision so we can truly let go and, if necessary, have the support we need if deep stresses are released. You can learn and practice Rounding at Thom's annual retreats in Sedona, Arizona, and Gerringong, Australia. When it comes to talking about the history of cricket in the Kiama region, it would be remiss to bring up the name of a man who did not play for the Kiama club, but was a trailblazer in the forerunner to the current south coast competition, the Kiama District Cricket Association. Edgar Emery, also known as Gerry Emery, is an icon of the Gerringong Cricket Club, arguably that club's finest ever player, whose name now adorns their home ground. His record speaks for itself, and even casual readers of local cricket history know his name and vaguely are aware that his exploits on the cricket field bear mentioning. Now while dissecting and retelling his life and cricketing career would take much longer than most would like to spend, what I will be doing on today's podcast episode is having a short discussion on one particular season, a season where Emery's wonderful batting skills shone like a beacon in a year where the world overseas was reaching a dangerous crescendo. So for everyone who is aware of the name, but perhaps not why you know the name, please hang around as I fill in a few of those blank spaces on today's episode of Slashing Through the Cordon, the Kiama Cricket Podcast – with a Gerringong flavour. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/kiamacricketclub/message

Hello to you listening in Gerringong, Australia!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday.Recently someone asked me if I had been a dancer. No. Are you sure? You move like one, you're flexible like a dancer. Not me. Time passed. Smack upside the head! I was a dancer! I was a dancer! Decades ago spending hard-earned dollars on Arthur Murray Dance Studio lessons and competition because my grandmother (she born of thrift and denial) said, “Go ahead! Do it. If you don't you'll regret it.”My godmother, Diane Blue, was my mother's college roommate. Diane was a dancer with dreams of going pro; but, as often happened back then she got married. The fellow she married had 2 left feet. Diane stopped dancing. Me? Funny you should ask: my used-to-be husband didn't dance, couldn't dance, wouldn't dance. After all those years of ballroom dancing I had no one to dance with. I stopped dancing.Today? Today I move what my momma gave me - because I am a dancer! Story Prompt: What dream did you live, give up and then bring back to life? What happened then? Write that story!Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something. All that matters is you have a story.60 Seconds is your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that. This is the place to thrive together. In addition to playing for Warilla during this period, Ian additionally played school soccer and a couple of years of representative soccer with Illawarra. From 1988 through to 2013 Ian played senior soccer with distinction in the Illawarra with the University of Wollongong, Wollongong Olympic, Wollongong Wolves, Illawarra Lions, Albion Park, Dapto, Albion Park White Eagles, Kiama (where he was player-coach for a season in 2006) and Gerringong. And through this time Ian has had an amazing array of coaches and developed lifelong friendships, which developed him as a player and as a person.Ian’s journey was extremely fascinating and an absolute pleasure to record, he is a man who made decisions on where to play based on family, education, vocation and what was right for himself. It was such an honour to spend time recording with Ian, my appreciation and respect go out to him for driving all the way up from his home on the South Coast to record this podcast in Balgownie. And a quick thank you to Ian’s mate Fotho for initially setting up this interview for me, I appreciate the continued support people give this podcast. Please enjoy episode 58!

Sydneysider and Mum to four boys, Simone Mathews can only be described as a design, renovating and entrepreneurial dynamo. Before her foray into interior design, property ownership and accommodation management, Simone travelled widely and spent time working in the real estate and corporate sectors, including a senior role with Danish firm Velux Skylights, Windows and Blinds. On the side, she was building & renovating properties for both herself and clients. A conventional career path was however not to be and, with her builder husband Ben and family in tow, in late 2015 Simone took the plunge and purchased a classic Australian farmhouse in the seaside village of Gerringong, about 1 hr south of Sydney. Over the course of the next year, the house was painstakingly renovated and her first wildly successful accommodation venture, Soul of Gerringong, was born. This also led way to Simone's now thriving interior design and education consultancy for holiday property owners (or 'HPO's' as she affectionately calls them), Soul Home, being established. As I'm sure you'll agree, this is a woman who has a mountain of experience and expertise to share.

Although she first went to art school at 15, it wasn’t until she was 38 that Megan Seres started on her path to become a practising artist - when she enrolled in Sydney's National Art School. Then in 2016, encouraged by a friend, she reluctantly entered the prestigious Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and was shocked when it was announced she'd won. The winning portrait of her daughter Scarlett dressed as a colonial girl thrust her into the limelight and she has been creating works which have been catching the attention of art lovers ever since. In the last few weeks alone she has been shortlisted in both the Percival Tucker Portrait prize and the Wyndham Art Prize. In this podcast episode, she talks about the struggles she faced in becoming an artist, recalls the overwhelming experience of winning the Doug Moran portrait prize and talks about the aftermath of that win, including the decisions she had to make regarding the direction her work was taking. The interview was recorded in her studio in beautiful Gerringong, on NSW’s south coast.
