In that spirit, Cordon has helped develop and launch 2 art and culture programs in Contra Costa County. His captivating poetry has been viewed millions of times across social media and has been shared with the US Treasury, Google, and several universities and organizations nationwide. He's been featured in billboard campaigns, documentaries, and in an award-winning short film. Cordon combines his experience as a community organizer and son of immigrants to deliver original, moving, and educational poems that are changing the way people think about poetry. In the first hour, CEO and cofounder of Goldback Inc., Jeremy Cordon, joined guest host Richard Syrett (Twitter) to discuss the ancient allure and enduring power of gold. "Gold is one of the only metals that doesn't rust or corrode, making it very attractive for use in commerce," he explained. Cordon noted that gold has been a store of value for thousands of years, with examples dating back to 600 BC when coins were first minted in Lydia, part of modern-day Turkey. "Coins are the true birthplace of economic freedom," he remarked.Cordon explained that while gold was historically used for larger transactions, smaller purchases required other materials such as copper and silver, eventually leading to the gradual introduction of paper money. He pointed out that the dollar has lost 99% of its value over the last century, illustrating the consequences of a fiat system: "If you go back 100 years, the penny had the same purchasing power as the dollar does today."In response to this, Cordon has minted his own currency called Goldbacks. "Imagine a $1 bill, but it looks like it was made out of gold and actually is made out of gold," he described, comparing the bills to "Willy Wonka tickets" due to their shiny, artistic design. Goldbacks are created by splitting an ounce of gold into 1,000 pieces through a high-tech process, resulting in a durable, physical form of gold money that can be easily carried and traded. Cordon noted, "It's the most cash-like form of gold perhaps that has ever existed in human history." He also shared that approximately $200 million worth of Goldbacks are currently in circulation.-----------------------The second part of the show featured Gabriel Custodiet, host of the Watchman Privacy Podcast, who spoke about the loss of societal freedoms, psychological manipulation, and the rise of dystopia in the 20th century. Custodiet emphasized that Wells was deeply skeptical of humanity's goodness, a sentiment that permeates his works. He noted, "Wells grew up with a scientific education that ingrained in him a disdain for humanity," which is reflected in the characters of his novels.

Le Congrès des Maires de France, qui s'achève aujourd'hui à Paris, est en ébullition face à un projet de budget qu'ils accusent de menacer l'investissement et les services publics. Patrice Bessac, successeur à Montreuil de Dominique Voynet, appelle carrément à couper le cordon ombilical avec l'Etat qui tient les maires par l'arbitraire de décisions changeantes, technocratiques et brutales. Les communes doivent retrouver une marge de manœuvres qui leur est propre avec la possibilité de lever l'impôt. De son côté, Jean-Pierre Opplert montre que la relation dégradée entre l'Etat central et les maires ne date pas d'Emmanuel Macron. Le FPIC (Fonds de Péréquation Intercommunal FPIC) instauré en 2011 par Nicolas Sarkozy, le gel de la DGF (Dotation globale de fonctionnement) décidé par François Baroin en 2011 puis son effondrement sous François Hollande avaient déjà fragilisé une institution emblématique de notre modèle démocratique. La loi NOTRe accentua ce sentiment d'hostilité du pouvoir central envers les communes rurales. Le seuil des 15000 habitants pour qu'une communauté de communes soit viable créa un monstre technocratique ingérable. En nord Côte d'Or, par exemple, une Communauté de communes rurales compte plus de 70 communes, avec autant de représentants appelés à siéger et à délibérer sur des compétences déléguées par l'Etat ! Dans ce contexte, la suppression de la taxe d'habitation apparaît comme un coup de grâce pour l'échelon communal.

Longue de 380 km, la ligne ferroviaire Tana-Côte-Est relie le grand port de Tamatave à la capitale Antananarivo sur les hauts plateaux. Dénivelé positif : 1 250m. Un vrai périple pour tracter chaque jour des centaines de tonnes de bananes, de céréales ou de carburant, sur un chemin de fer bâti au tout début du 20ᵉ siècle. De notre correspondante à Antananarivo, « Allo, ici la gare de Tamatave. Demandons autorisation d'expédier le train 184 vers Ambila ». Un train s'apprête à quitter la ville portuaire de Tamatave, à Madagascar, pour remonter avec vingt-quatre wagons-citernes chargés de carburant. Dans la salle de régulation du trafic ferroviaire à Antananarivo, le régulateur de Madarail, la société concessionnaire des chemins de fer malgaches, autorise le convoi.En moyenne, six trains empruntent chaque jour cette fois ferrée mythique, au tracé sillonnant des reliefs escarpés et des villages très isolés. Cette ligne ferroviaire est l'unique solution pour désenclaver des zones fortement productrices en fruits et légumes. C'est aussi par elle que transite l'essentiel des produits pour l'industrie brassicole du pays. Enfin, 40 % du carburant importé emprunte ce rail avant d'être redistribué partout dans l'île.Plus rentable et plus sécurisantVingt heures après avoir quitté le port de Tamatave, le train fait son entrée dans la capitale. De part et d'autre sur la voie, les enfants détalent, les marmites et le linge qui sèche à même les rails sont déplacés à la hâte. Direction les cuves de stockage pour décharger la marchandise.« Le transport ferroviaire à l'heure actuelle, ça permet, d'un point de vue logistique, de cocher trois critères majeurs : à savoir la sécurité, le volume et la disponibilité, explique Tolotra Ranaijaona, le responsable transports à la Logistique pétrolière, société spécialisée dans le transport et le stockage de produits pétroliers, l'un des plus gros clients de Madarail, le rail nous offre cette certitude qu'on aura toujours de l'approvisionnement en toute sécurité ».En effet, étant donné l'état de délabrement de la route nationale 2 qui relie Tamatave à Tana, le transport par réseau routier de la totalité du carburant est inenvisageable, confie le logisticien. Autre atout majeur, son coût très compétitif : jusqu'à 30% moins cher que le transport routier.Manque de locomotives et de wagonsPourtant, avec seulement 200 000 tonnes transportées l'an dernier, le service ferroviaire continue de fonctionner bien en deçà de son potentiel, explique Patrick Claes, président du conseil d'administration de Madarail, société concessionnaire des chemins de fer malgaches :« Nous avons une offre de transport qui malheureusement est insuffisante pour satisfaire l'ensemble de la demande. Aujourd'hui, la grosse problématique du rail, c'est que nous n'avons pas une capacité de traction suffisante, nous n'avons pas assez de locomotives, ni de wagons. Nous avons un plan d'investissement de 130 millions de dollars qui a été convenu avec l'État en 2020 et pour lequel l'État cherche à mobiliser des financements pour le volet infrastructures et ouvrages d'art, et nous sommes aussi en attente en fait d'une recomposition de l'actionnariat privé de l'entreprise. Those efforts backfired spectacularly. Not only did the hard-right's show go on (albeit at a down-at-heel dancehall and events venue) but the National Conservatives garnered global media attention. The likes of Nigel Farage, Viktor Orbán and Éric Zemmour lined up to claim they were victims of cancel culture. But the deleterious effects of their policies on Ukraine's war effort, women's health, the LGBTQI community and racialised communities got far less attention. Dans le jardin botanique de Kuala Lumpur, Lucie Benoit, chercheuse ethno botaniste française, regarde attentivement les plantes avec un objectif en tête : identifier les ulams. Ces derniers sont partout : en ville, dans les parcs, les jardins et même sur les trottoirs. Ces plantes sont aussi au cœur de la culture malaisienne, une culture multiethnique.Lucie Benoit ne quitte jamais son carnet de notes et son appareil photo lors de ses déplacements en Malaisie. La chercheuse fait en effet partie de la Ulam School de Kuala Lumpur, et participe notamment à la sauvegarde du savoir des ulams. En les identifiant, elle tente ainsi de comprendre comment ces plantes s'intègrent dans la culture : « Mes recherches ont pour but de lister les ulams, et sauvegarder la connaissance autour de ces plantes. Elles nous apportent beaucoup choses très utiles pour notre époque, en termes de nutrition par exemple, pour combattre le diabète et l'obésité ».Un point de vue partagé par Karen Yap, cheffe malaisienne à Kuala Lumpur. Dans son restaurant, les assiettes défilent et mettent souvent à l'honneur les ulams, au plus grand plaisir des clients : « Les légumes que nous consommons aujourd'hui sont issus de l'agriculture, mais on oublie que ces derniers étaient dans notre jardin, dans notre arrière-cour », explique la cheffe. « À côté de ça, nous surconsommons, car nous achetons beaucoup plus que ce que l'on devrait. À cause de l'agriculture de masse, nous perdons l'habitude de consommer de manière responsable, donc j'essaye de revenir vers les ulams. Les ulams sont consommés frais, ils sont généralement proches du consommateur. »Karen Yap discute en effet régulièrement avec les Orang Asli (les populations autochtones de Malaisie) dans ses recherches culinaires, et se déplace aussi dans la forêt : « Je leur demande quels sont les ulams qu'ils sélectionnent naturellement... Et en fait, ils n'en consomment que quelques-uns, parce qu'ils sont proches d'eux. Quand on y pense, la vraie sécurité alimentaire, c'est d'avoir accès à tout, tant que c'est bon pour toi et bien pour la nature. Vous ne pouvez pas me dire qu'aller dans la jungle et trouver votre nourriture, ce n'est pas de la sécurité alimentaire » souligne-t-elle. Selon la cheffe, les Orangs Asli sont moins dans les villages tribaux avec la modernisation, et n'échangent plus autant qu'avant avec les anciens. Le risque d'une perte de transmission de savoir sur les ulams est donc réel : « Ce n'est pas juste les ulams, mais c'est plus globalement un héritage culinaire qui peut se perdre », s'inquiète Karen Yap. Préserver la connaissance autour de ces plantes comestibles est aussi source de belles découvertes gustatives, selon Sapna Anand, cheffe au Cordon bleu de Sunway, et auteure de plusieurs livres de cuisine :  « À chaque fois, je découvre de nouveaux ulams au marché... Il y a des centaines et des centaines d'espèces. Les goûts sont à chaque fois différents. J'adore aller au marché et avoir les conseils des Malaisiens qui les vendent. Ils me disent comment ils les cuisinent » raconte-t-elle.Chez les Orang Asli aussi, la préservation du savoir des ulams est une préoccupation. Le Major Kalam Pie, cofondateur de la Jungle School Gombak Malaysia, a vécu toute son enfance dans la jungle, et connaît bien les ulams, à des fins comestibles ou médicinales : « J'ai grandi dans la jungle où on apprend et on survit parce qu'on prend soin de la nature. Vous savez, pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, ma mère a survécu alors que les japonais nous ont confisqué tout le riz. Avec sa famille, ils ont survécu grâce au tapioca, au « Pra » aussi… C'est un fruit que tu trouves dans la jungle. C'est un peu toxique, mais nous, on sait comment procéder pour enlever la toxine », raconte-t-il, « La jungle produit l'oxygène, l'eau, la nourriture, tout. Et c'est suffisant pour que tout le monde puisse vivre. Détruire la nature, c'est une grosse erreur qu'on doit admettre dès à présent. »Et dans un monde qui se dirige vers plus 4 degrés, les Orang Asli et les chercheurs le répètent : la préservation des ulams est aussi mise en danger par le risque de disparition de leur habitat.
