What timing and opportunity to sit down with recent USPORT DPOY, Final 8 MVP and National Champion Sam Maillet! The Acadian named Maillet gives Mitch a quick education on his name and family history, setting the table for a fantastic episode. Growing up in Moncton, New Brunswick has lots of advantages and disadvantages, and Sam isn't afraid to discuss. The personal pride and community feel were apparent to Sam, and once he started falling in Iove with basketball, it was clear he would stay east, choosing Dalhousie as his post-secondary option. After four great seasons at Dal, including second place at the Final 8, Sam made the tough decision to move out west and attend UVic in his final year! Sam tells the whole back story and reasoning behind this decision; there's more to it than one might think! After a great summer with the Vancouver Bandits, Sam was ready to play for the Uvic Vikes, and what a season it was! A top 3 team all year, losing their top scorer, a rookie coach, that all somehow ended in the things we dream of as hoopers! We thank Sam so much for being with us, he also took the time to answer our listeners' questions - the hair responses will throw you for a loop! Best to Sam as he enters year 2 for the Bandits, and will continue to pursue basketball overseas! This episode has it all, tap in! Mahisha Dellinger, star of “Mind Your Business with Mahisha,” a business show on Oprah Winfrey's Network, pioneered the natural hair care market when she launched CURLS in 2002, a leading organic hair care company that took the natural hair movement by storm. Her journey to the top didn't come without its own set of challenges. Riding the wave of her success seemed effortless from the outside looking in. The taxing demands of entrepreneurship coupled with the stressors of trying to balance it all, while having it all resulted in her search for a way to “power through.” “Like millions of women, I often drank to cope. As life continued to happen & my day-to-day pressure increased...so did my drinking. This daily habit was beyond what any medical professional deemed safe. I knew I needed to make a change for not only me, but for my children. I have this large family that Iove, I have to be around for them…I want to be around for my grandkids. I began to search for a non-alcoholic, functional cocktail that I could enjoy when I needed to wind down. More importunately I was looking for a cocktail that would protect and repair my liver, aide in gut health, and detoxify my body. Impossible right? Not at all…the rest was Huzzy history!” Dellinger crafted Huzzy Smart Sips with a curated list of liver protecting properties, detoxifying antioxidants, and a proprietary blend will help of euphoric enhancing ingredients that'll keep you in high spirits all night long. Every Huzzy sip was made to rejuvenate & protect your liver, cleanse your system, aide your gut and invigorate your vitality. Now she drinks Huzzy Smart Sips to relax and revitalize her body, naturally. Dellinger is an official member of the Forbes Business Council and was appointed a Small Business Advisor for their entrepreneur community. Black Enterprise awarded Dellinger the 2023 Business Disruptor award. Entrepreneur named her 1 of 100 Powerful Women in the US. She served as a keynote speaker for a host of organizations across the nation including Yelp, AT&T, PepsiCO, Black Enterprise Women of Power & their Vision 20/20 Entrepreneur Conference, Essence Fest, Fast Money, Entrepreneur Magazine, and more. Dellinger has also been featured on several television shows throughout the nation and has been seen on OWN, BET, Revolt TV, Good Morning America, etc.. Mahisha's mantra, “To whom much is given, much is required” led to the founding of her MBA style program & non profit, Black Women Making Millions Academy, that is set to help 25,000 businesses scale with over $450 million dollars' worth of free resources to African American women all over the nation.

Have you ever thought, “I'm doing all the right things—training consistently, eating well, managing stress—but I still don't love how I look?” If that sounds familiar, this Ep is for you girl. I had this exact conversation with a woman at The Elegant Edge recently. She's the strongest and healthiest she's ever been—her body can do what she wants it to—but she still doesn't feel confident or happy with how she looks. So, what's the missing piece? In This EP, we'll dive deep into the Body Pyramid I teach in Warrior School—a framework for building a body you love by focusing on Health, Performance, and Aesthetics (in that order). Most women skip straight to chasing the "look" without fully committing to the foundation. Spoiler: it doesn't work that way. In today's jam, I'll explain why aesthetics are the byproduct of health and performance—and why building a body you love is about doing the right things better, not just doing more. This is about taking the long way home, building the foundation, training with elegance and intensity, and rewiring your mindset to create sustainable transformation. Key Take Aways Building a body you love requires a solid foundation of health and performance before aesthetics can naturally emerge as a byproduct. Many women who train consistently and eat well still struggle with body dissatisfaction because they focus solely on aesthetics instead of the base of the pyramid: health and performance. Achieving significant body composition changes is a long-term process that often takes 2-5 years of consistent effort and intentional practice. Progress isn't about doing more; it's about doing the right things better, such as refining nourishment, recovery, stress management, and training intensity. Mindset plays a crucial role in transformation, as managing fears, stories, and limiting beliefs is as important as the physical work. Success often requires support from a team or coach to guide you effectively and ensure you stay on the right path toward your goals. Quote: "Body composition isn't something we can force; it's a byproduct of health and performance." "Many women chase the top of the pyramid— aesthetics—without fully committing to building the base of health and performance." "It's not about doing more; it's about doing the right things better." "Building a body you love takes time: a year to build your foundation, a year to train with elegance and intensity, and sometimes years to achieve the transformation you envision." "We come for the training, but we stay for the mindset." "Focus on the practice and process, and as a byproduct, your body will change." "You can't do it all alone; you need a team to help you achieve your goals." If you've ever felt stuck, frustrated, or like your body doesn't reflect the effort you're putting in, this episode will give you clarity, perspective, and the tools to move forward. It's not about doing more; it's about doing better. Let's reframe the way you think about your body and the work it takes to create a body you love. Loved this episode? Ladies this one's for you! If you grew up in my generation or older, you probably didn't get a lot of information given to you about your body. You probably had to ask a friend or read an article in Seventeen magazine that gave you a very one-sided piece of information as your answer.  And now, the same generation of women who had limited information on their own bodies are now mothering girls, and how do we feel equipped to share with them if we are still uncertain ourselves? Yes we can Google just about anything, but if you Google the same question enough times you're likely to find 5 different answers that all promise to be right. Today I have my own OBGYN Dr. Kristen Daniel here to set the record straight on an array of topics that we AND our daughters have to deal with. We go through the spectrum, starting with puberty and periods (when should you take your daughter for an exam?) to birth control and conceiving (when do we start to worry?), STD's (how and often do we screen for those?) pregnancy & recovery, postpartum depression and of course… menopause. If you've been feeling overwhelmed either with your own body or with how to handle dealing with your daughter's as she enters the tween years, you're going to Iove this episode. *This podcast is for entertainment purposes only and is not intended as medical advice. You should always see and speak to your own doctor about any personal concerns or health issues. Dr. Kristen Daniel currently works as an OBGYN at Women Obstetrics & Gynecology in Nashville, TN

Show Notes: Ancient Roman Worship of Jupiter: Jupiter, also called Jove, Latin Iuppiter, Iovis, orDiespiter, the chief ancient Roman and Italian god. Like Zeus, the Greek god with whom he is etymologically identical (root diu, “bright”), Jupiter was a sky god. One of his most ancient epithets is Lucetius (“Light-Bringer”); and later literature has preserved the same idea in such phrases as sub Iove, “under the open sky.” Later Roman Worship of Emperors: Octavian himself took the name Augustus, a term indicating a claim to reverence. This did not make him a god in his lifetime, but, combined with the insertion of his numen and his genius (originally the procreative power that enables a family to be carried on) into certain cults, it prepared the way for his posthumous deification, just as Caesar had been deified before him. Both were deified by the state because they seemed to have given Rome gifts worthy of a god. Pergamos was a city of heathen temples and a pantheon of pagan deities. Jupiter was said to have had his origin there, and to him and other Greek and Roman gods were erected many beautiful and costly temples, giving it the name of "the city of temples." It was the metropolis of heathen deities. Temples were built and dedicated to Jupiter, Zeus, Athena, Dionysius, and Aesculapius, the Greek god of medicine, and also called "the god of Pergamum." It was also the center of emperor worship. In AD 29 a great temple was erected to the worship of Augustus Caesar, who was to be prayed to as "Lord Caesar." Domitian decreed that all peoples should address him as "Our Lord and our God.” The Temple of Zeus was the most celebrated of all the temples of Pergamos, and was dedicated to Aesculapius, "the serpent god" or "god of healing." It was also known as the Temple of Aesculapius, who was called "the Great Physician" and "the Savior." He was also given other titles showing that he was a counterfeit of Christ. In this temple a living serpent was kept and worshiped. Serpent worship was so universal in Pergamos that many coins have been found with a picture of a serpent entwined around a pole. It is unfortunate that this pagan emblem of healing has become the caduceus of the modern medical profession. In the Temple of Zeus many miracles of healing were supposed to have been performed. In connection with this temple was also a famous school of medicine. Scripture References: All Scripture references are cited from the King James Bible. Daniel 2:31-36, Daniel 2:37-42, Daniel 7:1-7, Daniel 2:44, Revelation 13:1-5, Matthew 13:10-17, 2 Thessalonians 2:7-10, Luke 4:5-7, Psalm 115:16, Genesis 1:26, Matthew 4:16-17, Acts 26:16-18, Revelation 2:12-13a Takeaway: Symbolic aspects of the Roman Empire remain all around us, but its origins are as satanic as satan himself. Rome worshipped Jupiter and the emperors, a picture of the dragon and the beast to come. Mystery Rome is alive and well, especially in the United States empire of global hegemony.  Links: https://www.britannica.com/topic/Jupiter-Roman-god https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturn_(mythology) https://theologycurator.com/roman-empire-during-time-jesus/ https://www.lewrockwell.com/2022/09/gary-d-barnett/a-solution-for-the-masses-does-not-exist-perceived-reality-is-in-fact-only-theatre/ Website: utbnow.com Podcast: https://bible-mysteries.captivate.fm Subscribe: https:/https://biblemysteries.supercast.com Email: unlockthebiblenow@gmail.com Donate: ttps://secure.subsplash.com/ui/access/BDJH89

Healthy women (all ages) and healthy men 65 and older: No more than 3 drinks in one day and no more than 7 drinks per week. One drink is defined as 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor. So remember that a mixed drink or full glass of wine are probably more than one drink. Abstinence from alcohol Abstinence from alcohol is the best choice for people who take medication(s) that interact with alcohol, have health conditions that could be exacerbated by alcohol (e.g. liver disease), are pregnant or may become pregnant or have had a problem with alcohol or another substance in the past. Benefits of “low-risk” drinking Following these guidelines reduces the risk of health problems such as cancer, liver disease, reduced immunity, ulcers, sleep problems, complications of existing conditions, and more. It also reduces the risk of depression, social problems, and difficulties at school or work. This week on the podcast I'm thrilled to be speaking to author, podcaster and entrerpreneur Elizabeth Benton.  Elizabeth's book, Chasing Cupcakes is a book I go back to again and again for mindset work.  Here are notes from our conversation:  Rumi quotes: “Why do you stay in prison when the door is so wide open?”   Tell me what you hear most from this quote?  Hope Capability/Power? “Whoever brought me here will have to take me home”: I love the concept of self-change,   I  Iove the idea of having the power within me to change…but I also highly value coaching and mentors. How do believe coaches and mentors can help self-changers the most? “Our patterns and stories, no matter how far back they go, can be surrendered and rewritten.  We can walk away from them in any moment. Every choice can be change and every moment is            a blank slate.” You say in your podcast intro “Transformation is now.” Can you explain why you are so passionate about now versus today or this week.  How does that intertwine with long-term goals?   “This book is a tool that will help you win hard moments. It will help you change unconscious patterns and see the truth in the lies (especially the well-intended ones) you tell yourself. It's a         companion to help you overcome resistance and create success. You won't be fighting against yourself but rather working with yourself… creating an operating system of being militantly on     your own side. It will serve as a guide to the joyful pursuit of your best self instead of a battle against your worst self. You will create change through evolution, not revolution.” One of the biggest tools you use in the book and I hear you talk about all the time on the podcast is questions. And learning to ask better questions.   How does asking questions help people most?  What are some of your favorite questions to ask yourself? When it comes to overeating, drinking, smoking, shopping anything that people use to buffer away negative emotions lots of times people are focused on stopping the coping mechanism but  don't know how to solve the negative emotion.  How do you deal with negative emotions? Alright I know that you've been working on lots of things in your life this last year. You've overhauled your business, you've recovered from pregnancy and c-section, you've been processing grief AND you got pregnant again in 2020.  You recently welcomed a baby boy, Roman Ephraim, into your lives—congratulations—but can we agree that it's just A LOT??  And all the while, you've been writing your second book.  Can you share with us, what we can look forward to in book #2, and how it expands or breaks away from Chasing Cupcakes? To help me explore the delightful and nonsensical sport that we all love to hate, I invited author and ultrarunner Brendan Leonard on the Run to the Top. Brendan is a freelance writer and illustrator whose new book, I Hate Running and You Can Too, is a hilarious and relatable trip into the mind of a runner that's not going to top any podiums or win any races, but still regularly runs irrationally long distances. Brendan started his popular website Semi-Rad.com in 2011 as a channel for active, yet not elite athletes, who love to get out there, but don't take themselves too seriously. He's  a contributing editor at Adventure Journal and a columnist at Outside. His stories have appeared in Backpacker, National Geographic Adventure, Men's Journal, Sierra, Adventure Cyclist, and more. He's bicycled across America, runs hundred milers, and he is continually amazed at the things that regular people can do. His work is funny and insightful and he might just inspire you to love (or hate?) your running too.   CONNECT, COMMENT, & COMMUNITY: Semi-Rad.com Leave a review on Apple Podcasts!  A great FREE way to support the show! I've actually already been doing this one, but I wanted a win in case all of my other experiments fail.Due to the fact that I work out of my home and virtual learning is a thing now, I have been having a super difficult time answering the phones.  Because of that, I decided to hire a virtual phone team. The phone team I hired is certified by Housecall Pro, which is the software we use for scheduling.  Since this team is certified, they already know how to do the scheduling part.  I just had to teach them about chimneys. Here are the perks: The amount of money we spend is directly proportional to how much business we have.  So, when we're making more, we can afford to pay for more phone time. When we're lean, this  phone team can be activated to drum up some business for us out of our database. The team is super happy and super nice and keep me up to date. Here is the one challenge so far:Optimize driving time is difficult to do with a team that doesn't know the area.I solved this by making a drive time chart that conveys approximate driving time.  Problem solved. As for my experiment, here's where I started:I was annoyed because I can't answer the phone all the time.  I was also annoyed because my productivity was down the tube.  I did a horrible job time blocking because I was constantly interrupted by either a family member or a phone call.My goal for this experiment was to have a team who can help me increase my productivity and be more responsive for my customers. If you would like to have a gander at the tools Iove, check them out here: resources.timehackingradio.com. Looking for a super cool podcast editor?  Look no further!  Here he is: fiverr.com/jay717/

You're pregnant....Now what????

AP:Well Maria....last time we spoke about preparing for pregnancy....now what about when you actually are pregnant!!!  MK:  Well that is what we are talking about today...just after this quick reminder! MK: So....where to start....mmm Iove food...what can we eat...and what should we avoid during pregnancy?  AP: Well in Canada we have pretty good food safety laws but if you want to be really safe we generally recommend fish and meats being properly cooked, avoiding deli meats (cured meats are fine if properly cooked) and making sure cheese is pasteurized.   MK: now i need a bit of pep in my step in the mornings...what about caffeine... AP: a bit of caffeine is fine...1-2 coffee or tea a day is just fine, and also helps to keep those bowels moving...which can get a bit sluggish in pregnancy.  But we should avoid pop or juice...try to stick to water and milk for your beverages.  You want to try to keep weight gain to a reasonable amount.... MK: 15-25 lbs if you start at a healthy weight is what we are shooting for.... AP: now developmentally...as a pediatrician...what is your recommendation for alcohol, smoking and drugs? MK: well we certainly emphasize risk reduction...and unfortunately we can not be 100% sure on all the answers but we certainly do know that..... What about prescription medications in pregnancy??? AP: certainly prescription medications need to be reviewed on an individual basis, and you should certainly review these with your care provider prior to becoming pregnant if possible, or as early as possible during the pregnancy.  If you do not need a medication it is probably best to not take it during pregnancy, but if a medication keeps you or your disease stable, then certainly have a discussion with your care provider sooner rather than later! MK: we both like to exercise, what are the recommendations during pregnancy?  AP: anything you have been doing fine to keep doing.  may need to modify as time goes on.  Aim for at least 3-4 days a week for 30-45 min.  Certain conditions which health care provider may want you to modify your activity.   Maria...when did you first see your prenatal care provider... MK: well I was under the impression that you should reach out to your care provider as soon as you find out you are pregnant...the earlier you see them the better.  It is great if you can touch base with them somewhere between 6-10 weeks pregnant.  Generally they will order some screening bloodwork, get a dating ultrasound, and review options for prenatal screening - which is testing, that a couple can choose to do, to look at the risk of having a baby with a chromosomal abnormality such as down syndrome.  Not every woman decides to do this, but the testing is started around 10 weeks so it is nice to have the discussion before this point should you with to! Breast Tenderness: this is a positive sign of pregnancy, but can be more than annoying!  make sure you have a good supportive bra, and you may want to sleep with a sports bra.  Make sure to tell your partner what you are experiencing...as you may not want them to go near that area for a bit!!   Nausea: another good sign that you are pregnant...but annoying....some things you can try at home include eating small bits throughout the day...we tend to crave carbohydrates, but proteins are a good choice.  There is an organic Gravol Ginger lozenge that can help, Sea Bandz are also a good option.  Vitamin B6 10 mg three times a day is part of one of the medications (Diclectin) that we often prescribe to help.  Bloating is caused by increased progesterone, which is important in the support of early pregnancy.  This pregnancy also causes loosening of our sphincters leading to more gas!! so watch out!  not much to do about this.... Fatigue: the first trimester can be pretty tiring, your body is going through a lot of changes to help support the growing fetus.  Give yourself a break!  you will get some more energy in the second trimester.  Take some time to rest when you are able, go to bed early and allow your cute little baby to grow!  Dont' be too hard on yourself...these first few weeks can be pretty tough!   Gravol Ginger Lozenge Vitamin B6 50 mg Sea Band Bracelet Prenatal Vitamin (inexpensive) Sleep/Nursing Bra

The Retreat on Buddhist Psychology continues in Key West, Florida. The date is November 8, 1997. This is the seventh talk (115-minutes). We begin with the story of David, an America who came to Plum Village and was given he assignment to write a Iove letter to his father. He thought he couldn't do this to reconcile with him father. Thay had him practice as a 5-year old boy for a week so to touch the vulnerability and fragility in himself. We smile and identify the little child inside of us. This practice is followed by seeing our parent/father as a 5-year old child as well. Maybe we need a picture to help us truly visualize this our parent. The teaching of emptiness of transmission. Everything depends on everything else. It always includes a transmitter, an object, and a receiver. But these three elements cannot be separated. Another story, this one of Michael, another American, where he was asked to list the wholesome qualities of his father and mother. He had a challenge doing this for his mother because of some anger and resentment. This exercise can help repair our resentment and anger. And he was able to write a beautiful love letter to his mother. The practice has the power to liberate and bring non-fear and joy. When we feel that we have been abused, when people have treated us with violence, anger, hatred, discrimination then a block of suffering is within us. The negative energy is in us. And if you don't know how to handle and transform the violence within us then that violence will destroy us and the people we love. The criminals, the terrorist, they have not been able to transform the violence. We have to learn how to handle and transform the violence in us and to help others do the same. In our schools, in our prisons, and in our police departments. Mindfulness practice must be offered to society and it can be done in a non-sectarian, non-religious form. Thay shares his idea for an Association of Mindfulness Practice Centers and what that would look like in practice and reality. He shared about three mindfulness practice centers taking shape in America (DC, Vermont, and California). Living according to the Five Mindfulness Trainings. We need to be affiliated with a group of people, a sangha. It is essential to our practice. The sangha is our refuge. At 58-minutes we resume the teaching on the 50 Verses. We begin with verses 15-22 - about the seventh consciousness of manas. Then verse 23 is about the sixth, mental consciousness. Thay repeats a little on the three modes of cognition - the realm of things in themselves, the realm of representation, and the realm of mere image. Verses 25-27, the root of all actions. With verses 28-30, we move to the five consciousnesses of sensations. Historical Perspective During this talk, Thay announces the 21-Day Retreat planned for May 23, 1998 that took place at St. Michaels College in Burlington, Vermont. The theme of that retreat was the Sutra on Mindful Breathing. This was the first time the 21-Day occurred in North America. He also announced that 200-acres are being donated in Vermont for a practice community. If you appreciate this teaching, please consider making a donation to support the ongoing efforts of the online monastery. Please make a note with your donation that it was because of this talk.
