Caryn has participated in numerous online and location events such as the World Parliament of Religions in September of 2021 in which she presented a workshop on Embodying the Goddess: Creating Rituals with Mind, Body and Soul, a webinar/panel with Dale Allen presenting Dale's Indie film award winning “In Our Right Minds: Leading Women to Strength as Leaders and Men to Strength without Armor” and many more. Each and every day, Caryn (aka Karen Moon) works tirelessly towards her belief that the most important area to first find equality and balance is the divinity found within yourself. We talk about the incredible power and importance of sitting in circles, how they ebb and flow, how we work with our own control freaky nature when creating them, and what divine feminine teaches us about coming together (including the synchronistic mysteries, our own reflections, our own growth and the magic of it all.) I will never forget sitting next to my mother's bedside as she was taking her last breaths.  It was an out-of-body, shocking, and life-altering experience.  I felt honored to hold space for my mom with deep love and respect as she passed on.  At the time of her death, I was quite dazed and confused about a lot of things, but one thing I knew for sure was that the death of my mother would change me forever.  One of the bigger transformations that occurred for me after my mom died was that I knew I could not walk this path of grief alone. I needed my therapist, family, and friends to help me heal this gaping hole.  And boy oh boy, do I wish that I had known our guest today on the Cracking Open podcast.  Karen K. Moon, LCSW is a psychotherapist who specializes in grief and loss, and has over thirty years of experience working with individuals, families, and organizations. She counseled employees affected by the Oklahoma City bombing and the Columbine shootings and provided numerous bereavement groups for employees and families affected by 9/11.  These days she is based in Wayne, PA where she has a private practice. Karen served on the Board of Directors at Peter's Place, Center for Grieving Children and Families for 14 years and is a co-founder and facilitator of a weekly adolescent girls therapy group (Safe Space for Girls). She often speaks at businesses and schools on current mental health topics and recently appeared on Kelly Corrigan's Wonders podcast.Karen has all the degrees, experience, and wisdom that one would want to help them with their grief. But her true gift is her open heart and calming spirit which allows you to show up with your ugly cries,  memories of your loved ones, and an endless amount of hope that you will survive this loss – whether it is death, divorce, or even sending your kid off to college. Regardless of whether you are currently in a state of grief or not, today's episode will give you loads of tools on how to be present and loving to yourself the next time grief comes into your life. Two new moms created a new mobile shopping experience that changes the way consumers build community around products. Elizabeth Shaffer and Lizzy Brockhoff, co-founders of MASSE (a product recommendation app), joins Karen Moon and Abby Wallach. When this dynamic duo walked in, we knew this would be a great episode. Masse is helping de-clutter a confusing consumer market, where consumers can’t always know where to go and who to trust. They’re doing this by making a platform with absolutely no paid ads, sponsored content or fake reviews. The catalyst for Masse was Elizabeth and Lizzy becoming pregnant one day apart, and both started getting all kinds of ‘registries’ from their friends - recommended essentials products for being a new mother. This was great, but overwhelming with the sheer number of products from different sources. They thought Masse would be a great way to aggregate that type of information in a trusted way. They build a team using their guidelines of the Three A’s - attitude, aptitude, appetite. They look for each team member they bring on to have all three! Snack - the impossible cookie, a vegan and gluten-free cookie brought from The Wing, a work and community space for women. Masse is cutting through the clutter of paid endorsements and #ads to connect real people with totally genuine recommendations.  The key action on the platform is to thank rather than to like. With a platform so based on authenticity, it’s hugely important to have a high quality moderation team constantly making sure all content is legit. Users are the merchandisers. It’s a community of people all looking to help each other out, and in fact they’ve found that when users know there’s another person they’re actually helping out, they’re more inclined to use the platform. Pinterest and other social platforms tend to be aspirational, whereas on Masse it’s more of the real things that help you get through everyday life. Someone’s not going to necessarily be posting about their favorite trashcan on Pinterest, but they will on Masse. There’s no pressure to have a certain aesthetic. Elizabeth wishing for more time to read fiction, the necessity of taking the time to play with your kids, Lizzy’s sacred commute time, and Karen multitasking while meditating.
