This week on Leadership is Feminine, Kris Plachy offers a candid exploration of the employee-employer dynamic—and the personal responsibility that comes with being part of any team. With her trademark clarity and insight, Kris challenges listeners to rethink what it truly means to be employed: It's not just about time—it's about delivering results. Through thoughtful reflection and real-world examples, Kris unpacks why understanding basic business principles is essential for anyone who wants to thrive at work. She reminds us that employment is a two-way agreement, one that requires alignment, accountability, and honest communication. “Employers pay employees for results, not time,” she explains, inviting us to reconsider how we show up in our roles and what we expect in return. Kris also takes a closer look at the emotional experience of work—highlighting the toll of staying in roles that no longer serve us. Rather than settling for misalignment, she encourages listeners to explore new paths with courage and clarity. As she reminds us, “There is always a next step forward if you choose to make it.” Whether you're an employee looking to better understand your role, or a leader wanting to foster more intentional, empowered teams, this episode is a wake-up call. Tune in to discover how taking ownership of your role in the workplace can lead to more satisfaction, stronger results, and a renewed sense of purpose. Key Takeaways From This Episode Understanding Employment Agreements: The importance of personal responsibility when accepting a job. Saying ‘Yes' is a Commitment: Emphasizing the seriousness of saying "yes" to a job and its expectations. Accountability in the Workplace: Misconception of accountability being a personal attack. This week's episode of Leadership is Feminine is a little different. Kris Plachy offers a compelling call to action for team members everywhere to take ownership of their well-being and personal power in the workplace. Rather than placing full trust in employers to manage our financial, mental, or emotional health, Kris invites listeners to reexamine what it means to be self-led, informed, and intentional about their lives and careers. This episode is a powerful reminder that relying solely on an employer for your sense of security can be a risky trade. Kris shares her own journey—from getting her first job at 14—to explore the historical and cultural shifts that shaped the modern workplace. She breaks down why the system evolved the way it did and challenges the long-standing belief that employers should be the primary caretakers of their people's lives outside of work. Kris advocates for reclaiming agency and reminds us, “You were born as this capable human who is infinitely more powerful than she or he may believe... and I just want to invite you to consider that there might be another way to think about who you are, and how you accept personal responsibility for the results you get in your life.” Through honest reflection and practical insight, she urges listeners to invest in their own financial, mental, and emotional literacy. It's not about rejecting work—it's about refusing to outsource your power. If you're ready to shift from dependency to empowerment, this episode offers the mindset reset you didn't know you needed. Tune in and discover what it means to truly lead yourself first. Key Takeaways From This Episode Personal Agency in Employment: Importance of not placing well-being in the hands of an employer. Evolution of Employment Benefits: Critique of societal beliefs about employer responsibilities. Impact of Societal Beliefs About Employers: Relinquishing personal agency and a drop in financial literacy. Call for a New Perspective and Responsibility in Employment: Encouragement to manage personal health, financial, and emotional well-being Contact Information and Recommended Resources Join Kris to help impact 20 Million Women across the Globe! Are women the key to solving the climate crisis? Why are they - and children - so disproportionately affected by the issue? And how can men step up to support change? To mark International Women's Day, Christiana Figueres is joined by top climate scientist Dr Katharine Hayhoe. As well as being Distinguished Professor and Endowed Chair at Texas Tech University, Katharine is an influential voice in communicating science at the ‘kitchen table' level. She and Christiana reflect on the barriers women face in STEM roles, Katharine's work with Science Moms highlights the impact of the crisis on children and the power of women in conversations about the climate. Women make up just over a third of STEM professionals in the United States and only a quarter of earth science professors globally. In an era where diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives are being rolled back by President Donald Trump's government, there's never been a more urgent need for diverse voices in science. Leading data scientist Hannah Ritchie asks how we communicate in this new landscape. Plus, Katharine shares how her Evangelical Christian faith fuels—rather than conflicts with—her climate work, as she and Christiana they celebrate how love can be the driving force for all genders to unite for climate justice. Together with Christiana, co-hosts Tom Rivett-Carnac and Paul Dickinson reflect on why diverse perspectives lead to better solutions and ask how men can support greater gender equality in STEM. Throughout, we hear from incredible women worldwide with inspiring messages for International Women's Day. From Pat Mitchell and her work on Project Dandelion to Natalie Isaacs of 1 Million Women - plus a rallying cry from Fabian Dattner of Homeward Bound. Learn more
For many Americans, the assumption is that female genital mutilation – the process of partially or fully cutting female external genitalia – is an outdated, old-world tradition that is no longer practiced. Sadly, this isn't the case, and more than 200 million girls and women today have undergone the traumatic and life-altering practice. The U.S. isn't immune either to this practice, with surgeries usually occurring under the radar in smaller, private practices. We speak with Jaha Dukureh, a victim of FGM and global advocate, to get a better understanding on why FGM persists and what's being done to curb these numbers. It began with a dream God gave to Lou Engle in 2014, and culminated in 375,000 women (and men!) gathered in person on the National Mall in D.C., and TEN MILLION ONLINE, for what appears to be one of the greatest one-day prayer gatherings of all time. She is the Executive Director for the A Million Women prayer movement, and joins us to talk about: Where this idea came from (a dream!) in 2014 How it played out and the turnout that was seen How the prayers have already affected our nation and shown up in headlines And what's NEXT?! “Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly. Gather the people…”These biblical words, from Joel 2:15-16, are used by Pastor Lou Engle to describe an upcoming gathering of people of faith, of A Million Women, of one million Esthers, who are called to gather on the Mall in Washington, D.C., on the holiest day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur—the Day of Atonement. This week, Yael Eckstein sits down with Lou Engle to discuss this monumental event, in which the Jewish people's Christian friends will come together in prayer and fasting—to pray for Israel in her time of need, to pray for America, and to pray for our world.Join us for this inspiring conversation, in which Lou and Yael discuss carrying on legacies of faith and how we have all been called, like Esther was, “for such a time as this.”Learn more about A Million Women—An Esther Call to the Mall. For more information on today's episode visit mybiblicalroots.org.
Welcome to "Hearts of Oak," where today we delve into a profound discussion on spiritual revival and cultural transformation. Our guest, a pivotal figure in the American Christian movement, shares insights on the upcoming "A Million Women" event set for October 12. This gathering isn't just an event; it's a call to action for women across America to unite in prayer and fasting, mirroring the biblical Esther's stand against injustice. We explore the event's significance in addressing critical issues like abortion and the erosion of family values, and how it aims to be a catalyst for national repentance and revival. Our conversation also touches on the power of collective prayer, the impact of recent cultural shifts, and the urgent need for a unified Christian response to contemporary challenges. Join us as we discuss the role of faith in public life and how this movement might just be the spark needed for a sweeping moral restoration in America. Lou Engle is an intercessor for revival, and the visionary co-founder of TheCall, a prayer and fasting movement responsible for gathering hundreds of thousands around the globe. He has been involved in church planting, establishing prayer movements and strategic houses of prayer. Lou is the founder of the pro-life ministry Bound4Life. Now residing in Colorado Springs, he is married to his beautiful wife Therese and blessed with 7 wonderful children. He is the president of Lou Engle Ministries, recently launched to mobilize fasting and contending prayer, and to envision and empower stadium Christianity, and to ignite reformation prayer into the nations of the earth. For the past twenty-two years, Lou has been an international voice calling a generation to Nazirite consecration, fasting and prayer, and the pursuit of God's dreams for their lives through the ministry of TheCall. Lou has raised up prayer movements, has been a voice for the shifting of the supreme court for ending abortion, and has encouraged a movement of adoption to be the answer for the great injustice. Now, Lou is prophetically declaring that we are on the verge of the 3rd great awakening, and Jesus the evangelist will be manifested in great salvation and deliverance power. A mighty Jesus movement is coming to America, Billy Graham's mantle is falling on a new generation of evangelists, and streets and stadiums will be filled with a new song of God's salvation. Are you striving to strike a balance between realizing your vision and leading your team effectively? Many entrepreneurs get their start with an idea or a dream, and find themselves in leadership roles without much experience, training, or formal education in how to be a good manager. Situations like this can often lead to feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or totally lost. In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, host Kris Plachy reminds us that we are not alone, and she shares two effective steps you can take that will clarify your processes and make leadership simpler. Kris shares an excerpt from her book, The One Hour Leader, which is built on the idea leadership isn't built on a complicated set of skills and management techniques, but instead, is all about understanding human behavior, yours and your teams, and building an ecosystem where everyone thrives and is aligned toward common goals and values. The first step is to create a strong promise at the core of your business and making that promise the north star for every business decision you make. As Kris points out, “It guides not just what you offer to customers, but also who you invite on your team. Once that promise is crystal clear, every decision, every hire, every step forward is aligned with truth.” In the next step, Kris emphasizes the significance of agreements - that they are the foundation to creating accountable, value-sharing, and inspired teams. She encourages listeners to examine the qualities they believe are important and she shares a list of eight thought-provoking questions to help you clarify and design agreements for your team. If you're an entrepreneur looking to lead authentically and effectively without unnecessary complexity, tune in as Kris shares her insights and innovative leadership principles. Are you ready to step into conscious, intentional leadership rather than letting your emotions sway your decision-making or responses? This episode of Leadership is Feminine is an honest look at abusive leadership where host Kris Plachy illustrates the consequences of abusive leadership, and how to address the root cause in order to be a more effective leader. Kris brings to light one of the biggest leadership obstacles we face - not recognizing that it's our role as leaders to understand and work with our team, rather than expecting the team to work around us. Kris also asks us to reevaluate our emotional reactions to mistakes or issues within our teams. Whether it's us avoiding conflict or resorting to insults, either way, we're not doing anything to advance the situation. Instead, we need to take ownership of our emotions, learn how to work through them, and channel them in a positive manner that helps to develop our team members. The episode also touches on the importance of self-awareness in leadership. You can't effectively lead someone in the direction you want if you don't even know yourself. Kris explores the delicate balance between being both loving and direct, honest and kind and stresses that when leaders emanate such qualities, they not only uplift their team but also themselves. Kris passionately calls out abusive leadership, urging leaders to understand their role and use it for fostering a healthy work culture, not to harness power or control. Instead, she urges them to embody a leadership style that enhances development, learning, and growth for everyone involved. Join Kris for this transparent and insightful episode as she guides you towards conscious leadership, urging you to step out of the emotional turbulence and lead with love, understanding, and firmness. “I think it is up to the leader to understand and love and pour into the team member. It is not the team member's job to understand and pour into and love you.” Key Takeaways From This Episode Positional Authority: Explaining what positional authority is and how people are usually socialized to grant this power. Are you passionate about leading and ready to explore beyond the traditional methods of learning and growing? In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, host Kris Plachy takes the key role of a 'Sage', discussing a profound approach to self-exploration and the power of understanding yourself beyond typical teaching. This episode is an exploration into the reality of what it means to be a Sage. If there's one thing that differentiates a Sage from others, it's their deep desire to seek more about themselves and their environment. They have a sense that there is more to their leadership potential and life. As Kris shares in this episode, “A Sage is someone who is well known in their industry, in their space. They are revered. They have built a body of work that has reached a level of excellence in whatever it is that you do. And a Sage is also someone who has wisdom, who has depth of knowing, sort of beyond what would be expected of someone who has lived so far in your lifetime.” It requires a deep understanding of yourself and what you need. It means daring to leap from the safe plane of learning tactics and strategies to a holistic and personal approach to development. Kris shares that being a Sage means moving from a place of seeking knowledge from external sources, and instead, tapping into your own wisdom and understanding. Kris also addresses potential triggers and challenges of the Sage journey with honesty and reassurance, and what you can expect within the Sage Advisory. She emphasizes the profound significance of Sage, how it nurtures personal growth, the responsibility it bestows on its participants, and why it isn't a typical group leadership program. Tune in as Kris presents the empowering foundation of Sage, guiding women to embrace their inherent wisdom and gain a profound depth of self-knowledge. Key Takeaways From This Episode Description of the Sage Advisory Giving a Clear Expectation of How the Sage Experience Functions Definition and Characteristics of a Sage: Importance of self-awareness and introspection. Purpose and Value of the Sage Experience: Allowing women the space to tap into their own knowing. Overview of the Teaching and Learning Process: Acknowledging the individualized nature of learning and development; it's not a typical “program” full of videos to watch and worksheets to complete but a reflective journey where each Sage is her own curriculum. The Role of Collective and Individual Work in Sage: The individualized nature of the Sage Advisory. Have you ever felt like you're navigating the difficulties of entrepreneurship all on your own? Do you wonder if the challenges you face are unique to you? In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, host Kris Plachy reveals the seven unavoidable truths that every female founder and entrepreneur encounters on their journey to success. Kris starts by addressing the uncomfortable issues that every business leader must face. She emphasizes that whatever challenge or person you wish to avoid, your business will inevitably force you to confront it. Whether it's having difficult conversations, trusting your intuition, or working in partnerships, these challenges are inescapable. Kris discusses the reality that as the founder, you hold the ultimate decision-making power. If you are the one taking all the risks, it is imperative that you make the final calls. This responsibility is a fundamental aspect of leadership that can't be delegated. Another key truth is the ever-changing nature of everyone involved in a business. Kris talks about the inevitability of change—people will leave, roles will evolve, and you, as a leader, will also grow and transform. She stresses the importance of adapting to these changes to maintain a thriving business. Kris further explains that the people who helped you get to your current level might not be the same ones who will take you to the next stage of your journey. This truth emphasizes the need for continuous evaluation and evolution of your team and personal growth. This episode of Leadership is Feminine is a discussion of leadership truths that every business runner faces. Tune in for a thoughtful exploration of these concepts to better understand and enhance your leadership journey. “You are already born to lead. You just don't know it. If you struggle with leading, I believe it's not because you're not capable. It's because you don't believe in what you already know about yourself and you question it.” Key Takeaways From This Episode Importance of Facing Challenges Head-On: Your business has a way of forcing you through whatever you don't want to deal with. No One Thinks Like You: Establishing clarity on the outcomes and not expecting that things will be done the way you would do them. Responsibility of a Founder in Decision-Making: Ensure that you are not abdicating in areas of risk in your business. The Destructive Impact of Unaddressed Issues in a Business: Avoiding problems in your business won't make them go away. The Inevitable Change of Your Team and You: Setting the expectation that people on your team will change, and so will you. Those who got you here won't get you there. And the person you were when you started is not the same version of you that will get you to your goals. Delineation of Individual Successes Separate From the Overall Business Success: Your success is not their success, and ensuring that compensation is attached with performance and results, not based on how you feel. When was the last time you had a great idea? Where were you? Who were you with? What were you doing? When women have great ideas, they lead to successes not just in our own lives, but also for the people in our businesses, and they have a positive impact on the world around us. In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, host Kris Placy invites us to look at examples of when we have created successes for ourselves, how to be able to recreate those amazing ideas, and the role of self-belief in this process. Kris discusses how, as women, we need to trust, indulge, and allow our ideas to breathe. She urges that we need visionaries now, more than ever before to solve the world's problems. And too often, women aren't tuned in to their ideas or they don't want to do the work that it would take in order to actualize their ideas. This episode serves as a reminder that it is worth investing in your own thinking. It can be easy to get caught up in the day to day actions of your business, but remember to recognize your potential and the power of your ideas. “I think women are going to solve the problems of the world. And we have got to start to believe in our own beliefs. We have got to start to believe in our own ideas and we have to start to believe in our own visions.” Key Takeaways From This Episode The pivotal role of ideas: Importance of ideas as a driver of personal growth and business success Various types of ideation sources and environments and their influence on idea generation Necessity for self-belief and belief in one's potential: The courage required for visionaries to pursue their ideas despite difficulties Encouragement for women to devise strategies and systems that support innovation The positive effect of acknowledging one's accomplishments and giving credit to oneself Contact Information and Recommended Resources Join Kris to help impact 20 Million Women across the Globe! You have built a successful business. You have a team and you're making money, but something is just not right. It doesn't feel the way it's supposed to. Those are the gaps. And while they may be easy to recognize, it might not feel as easy to solve them. In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, host Kris Plachy explores the idea that leadership isn't a skill, but an outcome resulting from a collection of behaviors, abilities, and most importantly, human behavior. She emphasizes that a gap exists in every leader's capability, often resulting from internalised beliefs and insecurities. And while that may feel like a lot, Kris shares the reminder that all of it is fixable. A lot of women come to coaching with the hope of getting the specific issues addressed. When really, Kris acknowledges, these leaders know how to solve the problems, they just don't trust themselves to do it. Kris shares that the work then is to then look at what you believe about yourself, and to overcome insecurities and internalized beliefs that might be getting in the way. Kris reminds us that leadership isn't just about how we handle our team, but about how we handle ourselves. As a leader, you owe it to yourself to develop and get stronger, so the frustrations of your business can become less charged and more navigable. If you find your emotions running high when you should be running your business, don't worry. It's not you, it's just the gap, and it is totally solvable. “If you are in a leadership role and you know you have gaps, the one person you owe it to to develop that and move through it and get stronger is you.” Key Takeaways From This Episode The Complex Nature of Leadership: Leadership isn't a skill, but instead, is the outcome. The Gap in Leadership: Discussing issues related to the lack of results despite having a team Importance of Effective Communication in Leadership: The need to learn effective negotiation techniques with team members. You've checked all the boxes and you've reached a point where many other people would be satisfied, but you know you are ready for more. Do you know what life looks like when you get ‘there'?And do you know how to get from here to there? In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, host Kris Plachy talks with guest and former client, Clotilde Dusoulier. Clotilde is a food writer and coach, helping men and women better the relationships with themselves and define success on their own terms. Clotilde's podcast "Change Ma Vie" and her new book "La Methode Change Ma Vie" are all about defining your personal success and avoiding the trap of toxic positivity. It's not about avoiding difficulties, but rather learning how to negotiate them. Ever felt that unsettling feeling or like something is missing? Clotilde explains that for many, they choose to push away those feelings with temporary relief in the form of buying more or eating more. Instead, she recommends sitting with the discomfort and being inquisitive in order to determine what needs to change on the inside, and that by answering those questions, life will naturally and beautifully unfold. Kris and Clotilde also focus on the importance of seeking out new projects and maintaining a commitment to growth. Change in life is inevitable, and it is critical to avoid stagnation and find ways to be flexible. As Clotilde says: "We need to create a life in which we can appreciate what we have and where we are, and also be sowing the seeds of something new and pursuing growth." This is an enlightening conversation between two kindred spirits, both committed to helping people live exceptional lives. Are you abiding by someone else's model of success or are you forging your own path? There's a lot of noise when it comes to what it means to be a leader and we often find ourselves following the advice of others instead of listening to our own instincts. In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, host Kris Plachy invites listeners to ask themselves where are you following instead of leading? For many leaders, there's a point where you start to defer to the people you bring in to your business, your queendom. And slowly, you find yourself being less of a leader and more of a follower. Kris reminds the audience that even though it's not easy, it is important to not acquiesce to those ideas. Instead of finding someone with the answers, seek out those who ask you questions. Kris opens up about her own personal journey with social media, revealing her struggle to find a fulfilling and authentic relationship with the platform. She describes the journey she has taken in order quiet the noise, and be able to use the platforms in a way that is aligned with her values and the type of leader she is. She provides compelling insights into the drawbacks of mimicking someone else's "kit" or model of success instead of figuring out your own unique composition. The episode thoughtfully explores how to navigate the pressures of following the herd, asking more questions than providing answers, keeping you critically engaged. Nonetheless, Kris emphasizes that in spite of the struggles, we have the ability and indeed, the right, to carve our own path. And so if you were to get really honest with yourself, where are you not leading? Where are you following? Where are you hoping someone else will just throw you the answer? Key Takeaways From This Episode The Concept of Balance in Leadership: Proposal to balance masculine and feminine perspectives on leadership. Reevaluation of Social Media and its Impact: Kris shares her personal experience with social media, specifically its performative aspect. Analyzing the Influence of Others on Our Decisions: Discussion about remaining true to one's values even when they conflict with others' opinions. The ‘Kit' Analogy and Self-Discovery: Emphasizing the importance of exploring one's own attributes instead of following others Reimagining Leadership Structures: Encouragement to pursue genuine leadership. In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, host Kris Plachy dives into the essential topic of expressing assertiveness and setting boundaries in professional settings. Kris illuminates the difference between what people say when they don't feel the need to guard what they say, versus what they convey in less clear ways when they feel protective. She candidly explores her own journey of setting stronger expectations during her info sessions, transforming them into active, participative experiences rather than passive webinars.
