Veit Kessen erzählt übers Buschfliegen in Kenia und warum dort das Gleitschirmfliegen fast verboten worden wäre. +++ Kenia war viele Jahre lang ein hoch gehandeltes Winterflugziel der Gleitschirmszene. Stets im Januar reisten etliche streckenhungrige Piloten aus Europa ins sogenannte Kerio Valley, um dort an der fast 100 Kilometer langen Felskante im Powersoaring-Modus persönliche oder gar global gültige Bestleistungen zu fliegen. Gregory Knudson beispielsweise stellte dort am 19. Januar 2014 den noch immer gültigen Geschwindigkeitsweltrekord für einen Hin-und-Rückflug über 200 Kilometer auf – mit einer Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit von über 36 km/h. In den vergangenen Jahren ist es aber ruhig geworden. Flüge aus Kenia tauchen kaum noch in den XC-Datenbanken auf. Schuld daran sind unter anderem drei Todesfälle, die sich 2018 in Kerio ereigneten. Sie wirkten offenbar für viele Piloten abschreckend, waren allerdings auch für die lokale Gleitschirmszene in Kenia ein Wendepunkt. Denn mit einem Mal waren die Gleitschirmflieger in den Medien, wenn auch mit schlechten Nachrichten. Und damit auf dem Radar der kenianischen Luftfahrtbehörde. Die war dann drauf auf dran, das aus ihrer Sicht illegale Treiben der Paragleiter zu verbieten. Einer der viel dafür getan hat, dass es dann doch anders kam, ist Veit Kessen. Der 49-jährige mit deutsch-indischen Wurzeln war eine der treibenden Kräfte hinter der Gründung des kenianischen Gleitschirmverbandes. Heute ist er dessen Vorsitzender. In dieser Episode Nummer 77 von Podz-Glidz erzählt Veit von dieser Zeit. Den wilden Jahren Kerios, dem jähen Ende und dem Bestreben, das Paragleiten in Kenia seither in etwas geordnetere Bahnen zu lenken. Dennoch ist und bleibt das Gleitschirmfliegen in Kenia ein Abenteuer, mit ganz eigenen Risiken. Wer absäuft, muss schon mal befürchten, direkt neben einem Elefanten zu landen. Veit ist das schon passiert. Por fin acabamos con el tema... extendiéndonos bastante más de lo previsto. Así a lo tonto son casi dos horas de podcast, pero una vez grabado ya era demasiado tarde como para tirar para atrás y hacerlo en tres partes.Una cosa que no mencioné en la anterior y aprovecho para hacer aquí es que las canciones que metemos (tanto en una parte como en la otra), aparte de las de los videojuegos Samurai Shodown II, Bushido Blade, Inindo y Samurai Warriors, son de Ensemble Nipponia, siendo las canciones de la segunda parte Edo Komoriuta (Nana de Edo) y Mushi no Aikata (Interludio del insecto), y la de la primera parte: Atsumori (basada en la muerte del joven Taira no Atsumori narrada en los Genji Monogatari (cuentos de los Genji)).
