"Ciné-club. Nagisa Oshima". avec Jean Claude Carrière, Christine Buci-Glucksmann, Vincent Ostria, Max Tessier, Yoichi Umemoto et Jean Narboni. Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983) is positively chaste compared to the other Nagisa Oshima films we've seen, as the sex here is always boiling just below the surface. This experiment in stunt casting pays off as one of the best anti-war movies we've seen, digging into the humanity and inhumanities of a Japanese prisoner of war camp, and their Allied prisoners, and leaving us to think about who gets punished and why.

This week we cover Nagisa Oshima's controversial 1976 film, "In the Realm of the Senses." We discuss the filming of the unsimulated sex scenes, the difficulties in casting a male willing to show all of himself, and add some cultural context to many of the film's more complicated scenes. After we break the movie down, we each pair the film with another. Thank you so much for listening!Created by Spike Alkire & Jake KelleyTheme by Breck McGough

This time the focus is on DANGEROUS YOUTH. We offer a bit of background on Hsin Chi; discuss how the film is similar to Nagisa Oshima's CRUEL STORY OF YOUTH, Godard's BREATHLESS, BEAT GIRL, and all the motorcycle gang Roger Corman films of the mid-sixties. The film has the thematics and energy of pre-code sex melodramas but surrounded by a rock-pop soundtrack stylised and transformed by foregrounding the sax. DANGEROUS YOUTH is visually inventive, with fascinating compositions, interesting intimations of nudity through shadows, compositions that make the most of the architecture to suggest interior states and external perspectives. The story of a young girl groomed into prostitution for money by the pimp she loves and the richer woman who is pulling his strings, is given sexy, noirish form and fascinating gender politics. Does anyone believe the end?
? Przegląd filmów Siona Sono na platformie Pięć Smaków w Domu Filmy odcinka Antyporno / Antiporno / Anchiporuno, reż. Portraits of Passion & Pain - Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris & Nagisa Oshima's In the Realm of the Senses On this week's episode of WatchThis W/RickRamos, Ibrahim & I continue to discuss Romance, Passion, Infatuation, and Sex with a look at two of the most controversial films ever made, Bernardo Bertolucci's 1972 Marlon Brando & Maria Schneider exploration of sex, yearning, desire, and deep sadness, Last Tango in Paris. We pair this exceptional film with an even more brazen exploration of sexual relations, Nagisa Oshima's 1976 classic In the Realm of the Senses. This is a film that neither Ibrahim nor I had seen before. We are thrilled to be talking about it for this episode. The less written, the better. Take a listen and hear a thoughtful discussion. Questions, Comments, Complaints, & Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com. Thanks for the continued love and support.
This week: I played Mafia: Definitive Edition, and discuss my feelings on what was improved or made worse in the remake. George talks about another Shinya Tsukamoto movie, Vital, whereas I just rant about WandaVision. Then, in Retro Corner, George tells us all about The Legend of Dragoon, a game that was not made by Squaresoft. News to me! Note: immediately after recording, I realized Taboo was a Nagisa Oshima movie, but its Japanese title is Gohatto, which is close enough to whatever that other movie was. So sue me, big whoop Theme song by David Cassel

As we work our way thru the 1960's, we'll take the occasional break from Hollywood to look as some other countries and films movements that helped the massive transition that took place during this decade.

Folge direkt herunterladen

Stylistic pastiche. Symmetrical framing. Murray. Schwartzman. 1960s-centric jukebox soundtrack. It looks like this must be our first Wes Anderson movie. A tale of young love set against scouting, parents in a failing marriage, a lovelorn “cop”, and an oncoming storm of the century combine to either charm or annoy Mike and Charlie. But which is it? If you’d like to watch ahead for next week’s film, we will be discussing and reviewing Nagisa Oshima’s Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawerence (1983).

This episode covers #535 in the Criterion Collection, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence by Nagisa Oshima. LISTEN HERE: PODCAST REVIEW
My guest for this month is Christa Mrgan, and she’s joined me to discuss the film she chose for me, the 2001 surreal horror-comedy film The Happiness of the Katakuris. You can follow the show on Twitter @cinemagadfly. Show notes: Takashi Miike has made an astonishing 90 films in his career, but none quite like this one Thematically it would be hard to have two films as different as this one and our last episode on Ozu’s An Autumn Afternoon Arcadia, California was home to at least one video store, in 2004 It really is quite hilarious that both An Autumn Afternoon and this were released by Shochiku, how the world changes Shochiku were, of course, also the sometime home to films by Nagisa Oshima, and Mikio Naruse As well as the phenomenally goofy films of their horror period, so brilliantly captures by Criterion in the When Horror Came to Shochiku Eclipse set Those films were inspired by the likes of Godzilla, and Jigoku House, by Nobuhiko Obayashi, is a much watch film if you even kind of enjoy this one The RankinBass production of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer has undoubtedly caused its share of nightmares The Big Lebowski is one of my all-time favorite films. I can quote it endlessly I’d really like to see The Quiet Family someday, just to see how far this adaptation strayed Sadly you won’t find this film on Netflix As of this writing, you can still watch the film on Fandor though The film is also coming to iTunes, as of the end of August, 2016 It was also released on Blu-ray by Arrow in a Region A and B edition If you can find a copy of Nowhere you’re in for a treat, there has never been a Region 1 DVD If you’re ever in Portland you should absolutely check out Movie Madness, it’s an incredible store And, yes, they have the knife from Psycho I love Letterboxd Civil Comments is amazing. You should all check it out! Buy the film from Amazon Buy or rent the film from iTunes

The gang's all here to welcome special guest and friend of the show, Aaron West from Criterion Close-Up, to discuss one of his and Mikhail's favorite directors, Nagisa Oshima. At the heart of the discussion is his highly controversial 'In the Realm of the Senses' (1976), a film that remains censored in Japan to this day.
