Wonka is of course a prequel to the musical classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. And yes we're talking about our favourite prequel films. And I'm joined by a regular guest to the podcast, he's practically part of the furniture now, It's Leigh from the Lights, Camera, Rant Podcast.Warning we will be talking SPOILERS.Leighs pick for prequel films is of is of course a comic book film, but arguably one of the best X-Men films, X-Men: First Class. On this one we talk about how good the writing is between Erik and Charles and how their relationship develops. We talk about all the great Fassbender scenes in the first half of the film but also why the film gets bogged down in the first half too. We talk action, Kevin bacon having a great time and why is the tornado guy here. IMDB page Lights Camera Rant Podcast link FVF Social linkstwitterinstagramTikTokAs ever please enjoy.Support the show
A ghost that is also a witch? It must be Hallowe'en! October 1944 brought a cluster of strange goings on to the Essex village of Great Leighs. Clocks losing time, rabbits with eggs, and all sorts of troublesome behaviour in the guest bedroom of the St Anne's Castle pub. Locals blame the disturbance of a large boulder on nearby Scrapfaggot Green. It's a media frenzy, and even Time Magazine is running the story! Why is there a negative connotation around the word failure? Why do mistakes make us feel like we are headed in the wrong direction? The answer is.. I don't know. Mistakes, failures, " big whoops" are all things we have been trained to avoid. This mindset keeps us trapped in our comfort zones and prevents us from exploring and trying new things. I believe failure is an asset, mistakes are my new best friend and set backs aren't real. This episode is meant to eliminate the idea that we need to be perfect and to give our inner people pleaser a break. Uh oh..... this episode is bringing up some uncomfortable memories. In this episode, Leigh shares all her vacation horror stories and some funny ones as well. To bring this episode full circle, here are some lessons I've learned and some useful tips for your next vacation:1. Set boundaries, if something makes you feel uncomfortable you are 1000% allowed to say no. ( spoiler alert: I made this mistake in the Bahamas ) 2. WEAR SUNSCREEN. I burned so bad because I thought I wouldn't tan if I had sunscreen on. Staying pale is better than looking like a tomato. wear your sunscreen..trust me...please.3. Always bring a portable charger and a book. Having your phone die on you is probably the worst feeling on a car trip.. ALSO if you don't have cellular data, make sure to go on Netflix and actually download the movies and episodes you want to watch. That way Netflix will work when you are in the car. 4. listen to the lifeguards when they say the current is bad and the waves are high and the riptide is strong. LISTEN. In this episode Leigh talks about everything she's learned from having her period, things she wish she knew, and the fears of her first. Heres the episode layout...Discussing the fears and worries I had before I got my period. My advice and how to relax. THE BIG DECISION my thoughts on all the period products. I talk about pads, tampons, panty liners, cups and period underwear. I also talk about myths and misconceptions around certain products. HORROR STORY - okay...ill admit...there are probably some stories out there that are worse, but this was probably the worst day I ever experienced at School. Debunking myths and all the tips on cramps, dealing with periods at school and telling your parents, a jumble of all my advice were awesome.. we can do anything a man can while bleeding (THE END) SOCIALS:Podcast Insta: https://www.instagram.com/takeastepback_podcast/Leighs reg Insta: https://www.instagram.com/leigh_.lefevre/Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/Leigh_LeFevre/_created/Gmail: takeastepback@gmail.comIf you have any specific questions or if you want to see anything specific in the future episodes, feel free to ask! School takes a toll on our mindsets and mental health.... In this episode Leigh talks about her struggles with staying "positive" and "negative" and addresses the fact that neither one is better than the other. It's important to have a little bit of both to stay mentally healthy. She also talks about her trouble with swearing throughout the years and how she feels it gives off a bad vibe, but in the end they are just words we use to express ourselves. School is rough (to say the least) and its important to make sure we are checking in with ourselves and focusing on our mindset, mood and feelings. In this episode Leigh shares her biggest workout tips and how you can start setting goals and sticking to new routines. She talks about her difficulty with staying motivated and how she can feel insecure and nervous. She mentions apps that have helped her and what she is currently doing to stay healthy. BEST WORKOUT APPS:#1 Nike Training Club: fitness- I love this app because it has literally every type of workout on it from yoga, to endurance, strength and mobility training. It also gives you rewards and achievements to help hype yourself up!! It also shows you what days you did a workout and how much time you have spent on the app. #2 Nike Run Club: Running Coach- I SWEAR BY THIS APP, I did the guided 30 minute run with Megan Thee Stallion and it was the longest I've ran with-ought stopping. I loved it so much and it tracks your pace, lets you listen to music, and at the end it pulls up google maps and literally shoes you where you ran so you can see. In this episode Leigh gives you her tips on money management, and reminds you of the importance of saving and spending your money responsibly. She talks about getting a job and creating a savings account. She also talks about how you can find jobs that can help you prepare for your dream career!Extra Advice:1. If you haven't already gotten a job and you are looking to apply somewhere. You will need to get working papers from your school. All you need to do is go to the main office and ask for them, you will need to fill out some quick paperwork but then they will give you a slip that gives you permission as a student to work anywhere! Then, all you need to do is hand it in at your job interview. When I applied for my job bussing tables. I just walked in and asked for a job application form. All you do is fill it in and then wait for their response. ( YOU GOT THIS!!) (ps: its pretty easy and straight forward)2. In terms of savings it's important to take money out of your paycheck into saving once a week. Even if you add only 20 bucks a week you are still getting into the habit of putting money away and TRUST ME your future self will thank you. If you are in high school or even middle school you can start saving for things like; a car, college expenses, gas money, you're first apartment etc. Also remember to never, never, never take money out of your saving to spend on something random..it will just get you in the habit of withdrawing money and you don't want to do that, save up for your future self and don't take money out!!!3. Also remember that just because you have the cash to spend doesn't mean you should/need to spend it. It's a good idea to be money conscious and spend money on things you truly love and that mean something to you. Make sure to check prices and think about your purchases. ask yourself: Is this something I'm going to use? Is this overpriced? Is this a sustainable product? ( sorry this sounds like its straight from a text book or something..) BUT IM SERIOUS you don't wanna spend a lot of money on something that's not gonna last or something you won't really use. 4. Don't overthink it! Have fun with your money, you earned it!! go get that basic white girl flannel and pumpkin spiced latte (hehe) SOCIALS:NEW INSTA: https://www.instagram.com/takeastepback_podcast/Leighs reg Insta: https://www.instagram.com/leigh_.lefevre/Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/Leigh_LeFevre/_created/Gmail: takeastepback@gmail.comIf you have any specific questions or if you want to see anything specific in the future episodes, feel free to ask! It’s a very special edition of the podcast today, as Carl talks to one of HKA’s rising stars, Leigha Denne, his daughter. It’s an insightful conversation between father and daughter that covers everything from Leigha’s relationships with her parents, the effects of separation upon the family, school and friendship groups, teenage life, social media, growing up in a gym environment, and Leigha’s role as one of HKA’s most valued coaches. KEY TAKEAWAYS Leigha finds it difficult sometimes, to see her parents spend so much time at the gym. But she also recognises that they are doing something they love. This far outweighs any negative feelings. Her parents have separated and moved on, but Leighs still counts her blessings in that they have remained great friends. Not all people are so lucky. The family is unique in that they may be separated in many ways, but they still hold on to each other, and spend lots of time with each other through the gym. Leigha has to work to balance her social time with her responsibilities at the gym. Her friends are sometimes surprised when she foregoes social activities in order to attend gym events. For the family, it’s perfectly natural to get along with each other, even though they have moved on with different partners. It seems to be the world that expects friction, but there is none. Through helping at the gym with the youngsters, Leigha has developed great social skills. This has translated also to her dealings with adults. Being a coach is a singular experience. The best coaches are the ones who use their unique skills in order to make their coaching unique. People and life change. Leighs knows that certain things in her life will always be there; there will always be cornerstones and foundations. School life and trends fade and disappear. Concentrate on the things that last, and the things that matter. BEST MOMENTS ’99% of the time we get on. Well, we have to because we work with each other!’ ‘I really do appreciate the time that we have’ ‘Every fighter’s different. It’s nice to see how they improve’ ‘Be a nice person. Don’t be an idiot’ ‘It’s nice seeing the difference in people’ ‘I couldn’t imagine not having kickboxing in my life’ ‘You need to let go to grow' VALUABLE RESOURCES HKA Main landing page www.hastingskickboxing.co.uk/kickstartnow YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/Hastingskickboxing HKA Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Hastingskickboxing Adult community link https://m.facebook.com/groups/274624209886110?ref=share ABOUT THE HOST Hi, my name is Carl Denne. I was born in Hastings 1980. Married, father of two beautiful daughters, Bethany and Leigha. My daughters, the wife, and gym ARE MY LIFE. IF I’M HONEST, I pretty much failed at school. Heavily dyslexic, I was dismissed for being a “naughty kid” that didn’t want to learn. I was heavily bullied for having shit clothes and ginger afro hair. I didn’t have many friends. When I say bullied I don’t mean called a “poo-poo head” and being looked at in a nasty way. I mean thrown down stairs, and hit with chairs and tables. Clothes were stolen whilst in the shower. That kind of bullying… Oh, how things have changed… Martial arts, and specifically Kickboxing, have changed my life, and now I am much happier and change other people’s lives for the better on a daily basis. I am a complete adrenaline freak, so In my spare time, track days, jumping out of planes, sitting on top of them, rage buggies in the desert… The higher, the faster the better for me. I’m always looking for the next thing to get my blood pumping, so if anyone has a challenge I’ve not found yet, please feel free to share. I do like a Saturday night movie night, Chinese, Netflix, lots of chocolate with my three little ladies. I love being around my friends and family. This is why I love the crazy HKA family so much, as this is my extended family. I left school with pretty much nothing! A few sad GCSE’s C - D grade, BUT I did have a shit-ton of energy and passion to achieve, and to prove all the teachers and people that looked down on me for all them years, wrong. So after a few jobs here and there, I settled on working for Openreach (BT) as a cabler/jointer copper and fiber optic multi-skilled engineer with HGV. I left this in 2015 to chase my dream of running my own Kickboxing Academy and working with the future of today, rather than a job that just paid the bills. I’ve trained pretty much my whole life: Karate, boxing, Judo, from the age of 9, and of course, I’ve now done over 29 years of Kickboxing. I’ve passed many Instructors and coaches courses, attended many training courses and seminars, grading up through the syllabus. I passed my 4-hour hell-on-earth 3rd Dan black belt in July 2018 with the ICO. If I’m honest my real passion and skills have come from learning the hard way; through being in the trenches. I know how it feels to be on your arse. I know how it feels to have to pull yourself out of the pit. I’ve been through a divorce. I’ve lived through the pain and have worked with thousands of members, students, children, teachers and adults over the years, and the one thing I get told every time is how well I/we keep it very real, and that I have a complete understanding on most eventualities. Thank you for reading and listening. I hope you connect with myself and the team, take away some ideas, understand you’re not alone, and that it’s good to talk, listen and help others as and when you can.
Hunter makes a welcome return to the program to chat about his latest book "Sinister Entity. It's actually the sequel to Forest of Shadows, which was the book he was promoting when last we chatted. How can you escape the ghost of yourself? The Leigh family is terrified. They've been haunted by the ghostly image of their young daughter, Selena. But how can that be, when Selena is alive and well, and as frightened as her parents? With no where else to turn, the Leighs place their hopes in Jessica Backman, who has dedicated her life to investigating paranormal activity. Accompanied by a new partner who claims to able to speak to the dead, Jessica will soon encounter an entity that scares even her. And a terror far worse than she imagined.
