We like to think of Daryl Hall as a kindred spirit, his home-recorded Live At Daryl's House series with its magnificent roster of guests now racking up 90 episodes. He's about to tour in May and talks to us here from his house in the Bahamas – straw hat, roosters crowing! – looking back at the first gigs he ever saw and played and other delights such as … … travelling with his mother's Broadway dance band when he was three. … seeing the Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Patti LaBelle and the Bluetones in the Uptown Theater, Philadelphia, in the early ‘60s. … Three Men In A Boat: a barge trip through London with Dave Stewart and Bob Dylan. … “My teenage rule: I will only wear dark green or black and needlepoint shoes. This week is the great guitarist Paul Pesco! What hasn't Paul done? Even he loses track of it all. He was an "unofficial" member of the System, the Breakfast Club, and C+C Music Factory (he also played on their big songs). He's toured with Madonna, Steve Winwood, Atlantic Starr and many others. He's contributed to everyone from U2 to James Ingram to Mariah Carey. He was in the Hall and Oates stable for a while (and discusses why he left Live From Daryl's House) and he's in several all-star bands currently like Sonic Boom Squad and Supersonic Tortoise. The guy doesn't sit still! He shared all the great stories including how he was almost a Chili Pepper. Enjoy! www.paulpesco.com www.patreon.com/c/thehustlepod

Phil and David -- the Private Eyes of podcasting and frequent "Lunch" Maneaters -- are totally X-Static to use their Voices to welcome David's early musical hero and longtime friend Daryl Hall to a long distance Zoom "Lunch." Hear as Daryl Hall discuss his remarkable career in music and his show "Live From Daryl's House," uses a surprising amount of Yiddish, shares his thoughts about being a part of "We Are The World" and "Sun City," answers a great guest question from Jimmy Jam, and has a classic response when Phil and David ask for his advice on how to keep their own duo act together. Daryl Hall is known as one half of the duo Hall & Oates. Lately, he's made a name for himself with his long-running video series, Live From Daryl's House, where Hall and his house band perform with guest musicians (most recently Howard Jones, Robert Fripp, Lisa Loeb, Andy Grammer and Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke). Hall joins Behind the Setlist to talk about his latest album, D, which was produced by his good friend Dave Stewart, as well as Live From Daryl's House, his approach to performing on stage and his upcoming tour with Jones. Eliot Lewis was with Hall&Oates for almost 20 years...and we had to ask him if he had seen the break up coming....also we chat about his experience working on the show LIVE FROM DARYL'S HOUSE and his current solo tour! Eliot is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, and has toured the world over as a member of the Daryl Hall & John Oates band, as well as a former member of The Average White Band. Eliot has also been the only musician to appear on every episode of Daryl Hall's popular, "Live From Daryl's House” show all while keeping his own solo career going at a seemingly impossible pace. Over the course of his career he has worked with the music business' elite including, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Joe Walsh, Sammy Hagar, Todd Rundgren, Train, Cheap Trick, Grace Potter, Squeeze, Rob Thomas, Jason Mraz, Darius Rucker, Gavin DeGraw and many, many others. Having mastered four instruments over the course of his career; guitar, keyboard, bass and drums, Eliot's shows will find him moving from one instrument to another. Equally at home in front of 100 or 15,000, Eliot has performed on the worlds most legendary stages, including Madison Square Garden, Japan's Budokan, Red Rocks, The Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall as well as Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Conan O'Brien, The Today Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and many others. Here is Eliot's website for more info on shows!https://eliotlewis.com/shows https://eliotlewis.com/ Here's a couple of Eliot's songs "What We Make It" and "Anything is Possible" on YouTube! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=555KY3VZHg4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TahRXZHuYy8
Howard Jones is someone who you may not think you know, but you definitely know his songs. In this episode, we take a deep dive into his music, and you may be surprised at the number of coincidental connections and through-lines within this show, including Aqualung, Martin Page, Peter Gabriel, Tears For Fears, Naked Eyes, and Erasure, and even Donald Fagen. You won't want to miss the playlist for this one. "Say Anything" is the 1989 debut of Cameron Crowe as a writer/director. It is one of the most romantic and beloved movies of the time, and we're quite excited to discuss it, as well as the soundtrack, which is something that we've all come to expect from Mr. Crowe since then, but it started here. The madness comes in for a landing with this, the tenth episode of Regarding Roger. Masters of Digression Chaz and Wolfie go all out in this drain-bamaged diversionary listen-through of the epic classic rock radio track Eclipse, the last track on Dark Side of the Moon. Redux follows suit, and thus we conclude the heavy lifting of season two, listening to Dark Side of The Moon Redux for the listener, so the listener doesn't have to. Join our hosts as they meander through Spotify rankings of Pink Floyd versus so many other artists we forget how many are covered. Chaz raves on and on about Live From Daryl's House, the internet show of Daryl Hall, and convinces Wolfie to get hooked in with Daryl and his friends like Smokey Robinson, Sammy Hagar, Allen Stone, Fitz and the Tantrums, Tommy Shaw, Rick Nielson, Kenny Loggins, CeeLo Greene, Darius Rucker, Train, Rob Thomas, Joe Walsh, Howard Jones, Chromeo, KT Tunstall, Ben Folds, Grace Potter, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Toots and the Maytals, Nick Lowe, the Bacon Brothers…and so many more. Wax nostalgic with Chaz about having Kyra Sedgwick walk across his blanket at a Bacon Brothers concert. Ah, the memories. And yes, we get back to listening to the redux version of Eclipse. We wrap up this listen season with comparisons to season one, what Lulu had going for it that Dark Side of the Moon Redux did not. If there had been more coverage, better press, more content, and greater context shared by the artist would it have been better received? If Roger hadn't tried to sing, if he hadn't added poetry and voiceovers, would it still be something you can listen to? The main question persists…why Roger, why? When the hosts start pining for the improvisational stylings of Metallica and Lou Reed, you know it's about time to wrap it up. Rather, the guys draw it out, going further out on a Rocket to Uranus than they ever have before. New heights in digressionary diversion and pointless nonsense, this episode really captures the essence of our final adjudication of Dark Side of the Moon Redux. Hearing Eclipse delivered with a James Hetfield staccato is worth the price of admission alone. We wrap it up with a bow – here's the message: life ain't all dark. That's the big epiphany of this album – that and we've determined that the answer to life, the universe and everything really is 42. Thanks, Roger, here's your towel. Now…what would Daryl do? Roger – listen to Daryl, he is the king of Redux. Find out for yourself – tune in at Live From Daryl's House.

This week's guest is Brian Dunne. Brian is the current drummer for Hall & Oates as well as the house drummer for Live From Daryl's House. His pocket is insane and all of the information in today's episode is coming from someone who KNOWS about studio drumming. Having mastered four instruments over the course of his career; guitar, keyboard, bass, and drums, Eliot's shows will find him moving from one instrument to another. Equally, at home in front of 100 or 15,000, Eliot has performed on the world's most legendary stages, including Madison Square Garden, Japan's Budokan, Red Rocks, The Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall as well as Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Conan O'Brien, The Today Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and many others. Eliot has carved out his own distinctive musical brand and sonic landscape and has written, performed and produced ten solo releases. There are many who shaped Eliot's music and writing. As a guitar player, definitely Jeff Beck who I've been listening to all my life, as well as Billy Gibbons who I had the great fortune of working with recently, and Peter Frampton who I actually jammed with when I was 14 yrs old. I had the amazing experience of meeting and seeing many influential artists when I was a kid mainly at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Joining me today for an On Tour Special episode are the drummers from Hall & Oates and Squeeze - Brian Dunne from the USA and Simon Hanson from the UK. they have been touring the USA together for the last 2 months after Covid brought the original tour to a grinding halt in 2020! Join Simon, Brian and myself as we talk about what its like touring post lockdown, we also talk about Squeeze and Hall & Oates, The incredible back catologue of songs to choose from and the magnificent list of drummers that have played for both great bands in the past! We of course had to touch on Live From Daryl's House where Brian of course is the drummer - Daryl Hall invites some of his musical friends along to his house to jam. The results are stunning! This was such a fun interview to do - this was just after Soundcheck on Friday 24th September 2021 from the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre, Alpharetta Georgia. These 2 fabulous drummers are clearly good friends and lots of fun to talk to - I thank to them both for giving up their time so generously.
Adam the sock guy was on the phone to explain his foot fetish, and answer some personal questions about how he enjoys the used socks (including Ashley's) he's acquired. Then, a Tribe member called in to share what he's learned about the Bob Ross fetish some women share. (0:00) Joe Meyers the movie critic had a list of movie scenes that really affected him. Joe narrowed his list down by listing the scenes so disturbing, it prevented him from enjoying the movie a second time. Dynamic hosts Randy Thomas & Arnie Wohl revisit their interview with Daryl Hall, half of perhaps one of the greatest pop duos of all time. Check out what Daryl’s been up to exploring his solo-side, how his love of historic architecture spawned a DIY Network television show “Daryl’s Restoration Over-Hall”, and his free monthly web show “Live From Daryl’s House.” Featuring a mix of his well-known friends from Kenny Loggins to Smokey Robinson. Look for Daryl Hall and John Oates on tour together this summer!
OK so there is really no need to introduce Daryl Hall here. Everyone knows that he's one of the greatest rock, R&B and pop singers ever and half of the most successful pop/rock duo of all time Daryl Hall and John Oates. He's written some of the biggest hits of the last 30 years as well as the deeper cuts that perhaps not well as known but that are still as fresh and inventive both lyrically and musically as when they were first written. But yeah I know, I know. How many people have the luxury of getting to sit with Daryl Hall at his house and pick his brain for an hour and a half, ask him to tell you stories, his approaches to songwriting, talk about influences and all kinds of info that only an “insider” may be privy to? (Dan Rather or Howard Stern maybe)? Anyway, the fact that Daryl is one of my current “bosses” gives me a slight advantage here. I've gotten to work side by side with Daryl for the past 4 years in all kinds of situations from the stage to studio to TV. Daryl was cool enough to sit with me and let me interview him a month or so back after we got done with a studio session one day. In this interview we talk about his approach to songwriting, the Philly sound and his influences, how he comes up with those unique chord changes that are a signature of his music, his partnership with John Oates, his great solo record Sacred Songs, and really funny never before heard stories about Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, his friend T- Bone, and much much more. We also go “behind the scenes” and discuss the Live From Daryl's House TV show and how an episode is put together. Hope you enjoy- This interview took place at Daryl's home in upstate NY- Jan 2018.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-riff-raff-with-shane-theriot/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
