Well we are here. The last proper season of 24 being done and dusted. And it's a bit of a sad occasion as we now no longer ever get to talk about Kiefer Sutherland and Jack Bauer. BOO! But we do get one more chance to bring you a season recap of a proper season of 24 as we get to talk one more time about the ‘London Season' of 24 and give our final take on season nine of the show! How underrated is this season? Should this season be talked about more? Is this a better ending to the show than we saw last season? And have we gotten over emo Chloe? These questions will be answered and more, as well as our last takes on all things Jack, Audrey, Tate Donovan and London! We then get all the moments that were big and shift them into our final proper top five moments of a season, before then dreading the handover to the rubbish that will be 24: Legacy. Our panel of speakers included Prof Stephen Bullivant and two students from the chaplaincy: Caterina and Sean. Caterina is completing a PhD in Epidemiology and Sean is training to become a doctor. On this episode we tackled questions around suffering and faith. What should our response as Catholics be in the face of suffering? Why does a good God permit evil? Prof Stephen Bullivant, Caterina and Sean speak to these questions from their experience and enrich the conversation with perspectives from their own fields. Prof Stephen Bullivant is Professor of Theology and the Sociology of Religion at St Mary's University, Twickenham, and Professorial Research Fellow in Theology and Sociology at the University of Notre Dame, Sydney. He holds doctorates in theology (Oxford, 2009) and sociology (Warwick, 2019). Rianna Jade Parker reads "Letter from London: What is the Status of Black Artists in England Today?" published in ARTnews (June 2020), and engages Sky Goodden on issues of artworld access, stature, masculinity, precariousness, deference to sovereignty, and duty to one another, for Black British artists working in the UK. From Steve McQueen's accepting the Knighthood to a broader conversation around meritocracy and the sudden rush of Black British art (after decades of deletion), Parker discusses her feeling of responsibility to her peers through criticism, and the long unmarked history that she's beginning to write.

If you loved Regency romance novels before 82 million households tuned into Bridgerton's on Netflix, or if you're new to the regency game, then this episode is dedicated to you. Here Jen and Jackie attempt to boil down an iconic era of British history into a single podcast episode. Jackie's gives you a fun history lecture on what precisely the regency period was, and together your favorite hosts discuss where the regency romance got its start (all hail Queen Austen), and some potential issues that can be found in (arguably) one of the most popular romance subgenres out there! Button up your pelisse and throw some glitter in your mob cab; it's time to learn about the regency! If you're interested in visualizing regency fashion, go find @Asta.darling on Instagram (I said it wrong in the episode)! She is an "historically-inspired modiste" who remakes period clothing (and fantasy clothing too), and posts really pretty pictures. Terms: Regency The period during which George IV, prior to his coronation, acted as Prince Regent (1811-1820); there is a larger sense of the the "regency," however, from 1789-1832 Porphyria Disease from which George III was believed to have suffered; this is a disorder affecting the production of hemoglobin (a component of blood cells), and symptoms include abdominal pain, sensitivity to light and nervous system issues. Problems with the nervous system can further affect both muscle control as well and cognition Bipolar Disorder (BPD) "Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression)." Information on bipolar disorder (BPD): The London Season The social season for persons of the peerage, conducted while Parliament was in session (typically late October-June, with breaks for the holidays) The Town London The Marriage Market Young women of a marriageable age, after being presented to the Queen as an introduction to society, were expected to make prosperous marriage matches to help increase their family's wealth and social status. Women would have had some control over who they danced with or agreed to court publicly, but the pool of candidates was limited, and perhaps only a few of the bachelors would have been especially desirable, hence giving it the sense of a market economy. Peerage A legal system comprising of various hereditary titles, and composes of a number of assorted noble ranks in descending order from those set to inherit the throne. A debutante was a young lady, usually of aristocratic birth, who had come of age and was ready to enjoy high society events and balls of the season. To be debutante also marked your readiness for marriage and essentially coming of age. This year would culminate into the moment when you were presented in front of the Queen, and would attend the famous Queen Charlotte ball, where ladies were expected to dress in white and curtesy in front of a huge wedding cake.In this podcast I will discuss the history of this quaint and regal tradition, including what it involved, the fashion, the expectations and the rebels. By discussing elements of history like this we can learn enormous amounts about the way women were viewed in society, how class affected your place in the world as well as how archaic traditions adapted for modern times.
