Hmm? Seriously, Jack and Korey did go to see these two films, not so you don't have to but so you can go right away and see them! This film is jam-packed with everything a movie should offer, star power, an intertwining plot, fabulous music, and gorgeous costumes. Besides a great cast featuring Margot Robie and Brad Pitt, the ensemble is perfectly cast and there isn't a weak performance. The director, Damien Chazelle, does an outstanding job in this ode to a burgeoning Hollywood one hundred years after its inception. In this Chick Flick Chat, we cover a lot and I tried to drill down on the pertinent aspects and subtext of this visually enticing film. This week, we're traveling back to 1974 to discuss Robert C. O'Brien's Z For Zachariah, a compelling, female-centric YA account of the end of the world. We're also talking about Craig Zobel's 2015 not-YA film adaptation, which is...a romantic triangle with sexy adults?Both texts are solid in their own right, but we're primarily attracted to the excellent tension and incredibly gripping gender dynamics of the book. The film is decent, although the more on-the-nose religious elements, romance and poorly constructed racial stereotype doesn't work nearly as well.
