In the fall of 1971 a man identifying himself as DB Cooper hijacked a plane flying from Portland to Seattle. He said he was carrying a bomb in his suitcase. When they landed he allowed the passengers and crew to get out, shook down the airline for 200,000 dollars, more than a million dollars in today's money. He boarded another plane which he jumped out of in the woods of Washington State. He got away without a trace. Danielle Smith is not as crafty as DB Cooper. But the Alberta Premier is trying to shake down Canada's Pension Fund, says Albertans have a right to more than 50% of it -amounting to more than 330 Billion dollars. The Feds aren't buying that. A renowned Alberta economist named Trevor Tombe isn't buying it either. Danielle Smith isn't DB Cooper. She won't make it off with the money. But it won't be for lack of trying. She is a serial fantasist, believing her own BS and so the story will continue to play out as Smith tries to set up Alberta's own Pension fund by raiding Canada's. She feels Alberta is entitled to 53% of what's in the Canadian fund. The Alberta economist says Alberta's genuine contribution is between 20 and 25%...By the way Alberta has 10% of the Canadian population.   Rats continue to leave the sinking ship known as Ford Government in Ontario. Monte McNaughton is the third cabinet minister in as many weeks to be leaving. The provincial Labour Minister says he want to go back to the private sector and his departure has nothing to do with politics. At one time McNaughton himself as a future premier, saw Doug Ford as the ticket to his ambitions. But McNaugton like so many others since the Greenbelt scandal took hold, now see a Ford ticket as a counterfeit ticket. The hero of the Democratic world. His family expected him to be there for seven days. But he will soon be celebrating his 99th birthday there. His spirit is indomitable as he continues to fool modern medicine and survive a number of disorders against all odds. Some say one of the reasons he continues to survive is a desire to see the Atlanta Braves win the world series again. Good luck President Carter and Good luck to the Braves.

Canada Immigration News from the Provincial News Ontario released on 23/05/2023. Engineers of Ontario Eases requirement for local Canadian Experience for obtaining licence  Good day ladies and gentlemen, this is IRC news and I am Joy Stephen, an authorized Canadian Immigration practitioner bringing out this special edition of Immigration news from Provincial News, Ontario. This news was released by the government on 23/05/2023. I am coming to you from the Polinsys studios in Cambridge, Ontario. Today is the 30/05/2023  In Toronto on May 23, Monte McNaughton, the Ontario Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development, made an announcement stating that Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) has become the first professional association in the province to eliminate the requirement of Canadian work experience from their application criteria.  According to McNaughton, the removal of the Canadian work experience requirement will facilitate the entry of qualified professionals into their respective fields. He highlighted the common occurrence of skilled newcomers, such as engineers, doctors, or accountants, being employed in low-wage jobs unrelated to their professions. The recent work experience requirements set by PEO dictate that license applicants must demonstrate 48 months of verifiable and acceptable engineering experience after graduation, with at least 12 months of that experience obtained within a Canadian jurisdiction under a licensed professional engineer.  McNaughton emphasized that there are approximately 300,000 vacant positions throughout the province, including a significant number in the field of engineering, which leads to billions of dollars in lost productivity.  This change aligns with the Working for Workers Act, 2021, which mandates that regulated professions, including engineering, assess competency in a fair and unbiased manner. The objective is to ensure that newcomers can pursue their careers in Ontario without facing discriminatory barriers.  If you need assistance to participate in Ontario Provincial or Federal programs or assistance after selection, please contact us https://myar.me/contact-us/   Good luck! Welcome to this weekly video update on PNP news brought to you by IRC News. Guest: Monte McNaughton, Ontario Labour Minister The last two years of this pandemic hit everyone differently. It is undeniable that its impacts were not equitable and those with precarious jobs — including frontline essential workers — paid the most disproportionate price. Now the government that was previously criticized for favouring businesses over workers seems to be trying to make amends. Last week, the province announced the minimum wage would be raised to $15 an hour starting January 2022. Ontario has also proposed an omnibus bill that includes a number of labour-friendly policies like more rights for temporary and migrant workers, and a new right to disconnect. But many note that the minimum wage is not a living wage, and others ask if these new changes might be a case of too little too late just around the corner from a provincial election. Ontario's Labour Minister Monte McNaughton joins "This Matters" to answer questions and clear confusion around the proposed new labour legislation.

The Bill Kelly Show Podcast: Ontario employers will soon be required to create right-to-disconnect policies for their workplaces, in an effort to address the ills of “hyper-connectivity.” Legislation, if passed, would require workplaces with more than 25 employees to develop internal right-to-disconnect standards. The move would make Ontario the first province in Canada to implement such a measure. It comes as the pandemic increasingly blurred lines between professional and personal lives for those able to work from home, accelerating long hours and what some call “availability creep.” GUEST: Jerry Dias, Unifor National President -  The Canadian housing market's secret sauce is parents helping first-time buyers with down payments. According to a report by CIBC Economics, parents gave their kids just more than $10-billion in down-payment help over the past year, which was 10 per cent of total down payments over that period. Just less than 30 per cent of first-time buyers got this help, which averaged $82,000. The Bill Kelly Show Podcast: After Ontario Premier Doug Ford promised “one of the best” paid sick day programs in North America, the provincial government is announcing workers who have been impacted by COVID-19 will be able to access three paid sick days. Called the Ontario COVID-19 Worker Income Protection Program, the provincial government billed the initiative as the “most generous pandemic paid leave in the country.” The program will be administered by the WSIB and the provincial government will reimburse employers 100 per cent of the employee’s wage for up to $200 a day. The program is set to expire in September. GUEST: Monte McNaughton, Ontario’s Labour Minister GUEST: Andrew McDougall, Professor of Political Science with the University of Toronto - Ontario's auditor general says the province's nursing homes were woefully unprepared for the onslaught of COVID-19 pandemic due to years of neglect. Bonnie Lysyk cited overcrowding, poor ministry oversight, and a severe staffing shortage that existed before the pandemic struck. Her report says both the provincial government and nursing-home sector had failed to heed lessons learned from the SARS epidemic, while concerns raised repeatedly for years went unaddressed. GUEST: Dr. James Tiessen, Director, Master of Health Administration & Community Care and Associate Professor with Ryerson University - Publicly funded antidepressant prescriptions for youth have more than doubled over the past decade in the country’s six largest provinces, an ongoing investigation by the Toronto Star and the Investigative Journalism Bureau has found. There was a 240-per-cent increase in antidepressant prescriptions for people under 18 paid for by public drug plans in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Quebec between 2009 and 2019. In Ontario, the story is more complicated. Publicly funded benefit claims for youth antidepressants rose by 224 per cent in the first eight years of the decade, in line with the overall national portrait. Then, in 2018 and 2019, the newly adopted OHIP+ covered all prescriptions for Ontarians under the age of 25, making it tougher to assess increases after this point. Like many Canadian doctors, Toronto pediatrician Dr. Michael Peer said he is writing far more prescriptions today than he did 15 or 20 years ago — reluctantly. The Empire Club of Canada Presents: The Honourable Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development On Breaking The Stigma Around Skilled Trades Monte McNaughton was the MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex and Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development. Monte grew up in Southwestern Ontario, attending school in Glencoe and later graduating from Westervelt Business College in London. While growing up, he worked in his family's small business, the local Home Hardware. At the age of twenty Monte was elected as municipal councillor in his hometown of Newbury, and was re-elected to two further terms before retiring from that office. From 2009 to 2010 he served as President of the Strathroy and District Chamber of Commerce, and he served on the board of Four Counties General Hospital Foundation. Monte was first elected to the legislature in 2011 where he continued his advocacy for his local community. In June 2018, he became Minister of Infrastructure, where he opened historic streams of infrastructure funding, expanded natural gas supply into rural Ontario and tabled a plan to bring high-speed internet to underserved communities across the province. He also announced an investment to renovate the aging Massey Hall, Canada's most renowned concert hall. In June 2019 Monte McNaughton was appointed Minister of Labour. He immediately set upon a provincial listening tour, meeting with more than 150 labour leaders in less than four months. He quickly established worker safety as a top priority while also shepherding in WSIB rate reductions, freezing non-profit rate increases, and introducing a new program that will reward Ontario's safest employers. In October 2019, his portfolio was expanded to include Training and Skills Development.
