Russell Sturgess has been described as a thought leader in Western Mindfulness.  This is based on the idea of an approach to  mindfulness that had roots in the west, as opposed to the more commonly known eastern practice that emerged from Buddhism.  In 2007, he lived in southern Italy for a year while he researched and wrote his first book Metanoia, which presented the thesis that a western approach to mindfulness emerged during the middle ages in northern Italy.  This approach was inspired by Gnostic-Christianity which re-emerged throughout Europe with the heretical Cathar.  This western approach to mindfulness was inspired by the teachings from the Sermon of the Mount and in particular the Beatitudes. Jeff Segal, owner of Mystic Journey Bookstore & Crystal Gallery in Venice CA joins the Sixth Sense Society to discuss crystals. We look at how they are formed, talk about differences in quality as well as some of their energetic uses.

“Who’s the bloke on Mystic Journey?” has been a commonly asked question since the Tasmanian filly emerged as a potential Group 1 contender. The bloke on Mystic Journey is thirty six year old Anthony Darmanin, who’s been a jockey for many years earning the bulk of his livelihood as a track work rider for Lloyd Williams, at the famous Macedon Lodge training property. A few years ago Anthony decided to fly to the regular Sunday race meetings in Tasmania, and it wasn’t long before his talents were recognised. One of his supporters was trainer Adam Trinder who had no hesitation in putting Anthony on his star filly, and the rest is history. You’ll enjoy Anthony’s story.

It really opened up a whole new line of inquiry into what we've been handed down, and what we've been led to believe. (You can listen to that episode here). Well, didn't we have our good friend Jamie Delaney in the house with us today, and we were talking about that Aramaic translation, and how much has been distorted, twisted, and turned into different versions. Didn't he announce to us that in his work as a film director, he was charged with a particular project for an Irish charity to go to East Africa to spend a month in Ethiopia on a commercial. In this episode, Jamie tells us the story of his experiences there. He explains that he was very impressed with the people, that they were speakers of Aramaic, and that they had Coptic Christianity way before our version of Christianity came down to us. So, we talked about the churches that he found in Ethiopia, we talked about the wonderful language of Sanskrit and Aramaic and then we touched on the ancient Celtic language of OGHAM. We discussed mythology in Christianity and the translation of the Lord's prayer. We talked a little bit about curses and spells, the power of the Yew trees in graveyards, we talked about fairy raths, and then we finished up speaking about mystical Christianity and the version that is practiced around the world today. If we were to set about to deliberately design a path that would bring us to our deepest essential self, could we do any better than the design of the soul on our lives? What does it mean to live the mystic's life? Many say that the mystic is always kind, loving, and positive, even self-sacrificing. But these things do not represent the mystic's journey. The mystic's journey is an inward journey, one that might surprise us with its fierce and persistent longing to serve every single aspect of self as if it were a starving child. We tend to believe that those who are on the mystic's journey are going to be saints in every sense of that word. But we might be surprised to learn who in our world is actually on the mystic's journey, for it is done so silently that it might not even be noticeable. In fact, it turns out that the mystic's journey doesn't really have anything whatsoever to do with terms we know as “good” and “bad,” “morality” and “ethics.” It is unsettling in its depth, and utter peace in its essence.
