A little something from 100th, 200th, 300th et ceteraFlashback to 2010! When the Fake Tea Party stormed Capitol Hill while President Obama's healthcare hullabaloo had Republicans reaching for the smelling salts! The midterms dealt the Democrats a shellacking that made the '29 crash look like a slight dip! Also, 2011 saw wedding bells for our intrepid podcasters. But did they let their nuptials interrupt their podcasting? No, they did not!The audio oracles take you through Mitt Romney taking a beating worse than Joe Lewis' punching bag! Obama's second inauguration had champagne corks popping in blue states while red states nursed their bourbons neat! But – hold the presses! A corrupt, racist New York real estate crook with a coiffure that defied gravity and a former First Lady squared off in a campaign brawl that would make the Thrilla in Manila look like a Sunday school picnic! Donald Trump's November surprise left the pollsters with egg on their faces and their crystal balls in the repair shop!Join them as the Blue Wave of 2018 washed over the House of Representatives like high tide at Coney Island! 2020 impeachment dramas hotter than a Broadway opening night, followed by an election showdown during a pandemic panic! Biden and Trump traded verbal haymakers while mail-in ballots flew faster than V-mail to the troops overseas!Flash! January 6th, 2021 – the Capitol steps saw more action than the Normandy beaches with protesters storming the rotunda! The podcasters recall congressional hearings that made the Kefauver crime committee look like a bridge party! The audio oracles highlight Supreme Court confirmations with more drama than a soap opera, and a 2024 campaign rematch that had Trump returning to Pennsylvania Avenue after Biden stepped aside and Harris stepped up!That's a 15-year political roundup, as jam-packed with excitement as a three-ring circus. 900 episodes in the books, 900 more to go!Stay in Touch! Today is a day to honor the incredible women in our lives, especially our mothers, who have not only given us physical life but have also often been the ones to share the life-changing truth of a relationship with Jesus. Their faithfulness and resilience have left a legacy that continues to shape us and our church. As we celebrate them, we also reflect on what it means to be resilient people—those who, when knocked down by life, don't stay down but bounce back, not in our own strength, but because of the treasure God has placed within us.Resilience is not just about enduring hardship; it's about the art of bouncing back. Using the imagery of a tennis ball and an egg, we see that while everyone gets knocked down, not everyone gets back up. The difference is not in the strength of the container, but in the value and power of what's inside. Paul, writing to the Corinthians, reminds us that we are like fragile clay jars, but within us is the greatest treasure—the gospel, the very presence of Jesus Christ. This treasure gives us forgiveness for our past, security for our future, and power for today.Paul's life was a testimony to resilience. He endured beatings, shipwrecks, hunger, and emotional burdens, yet he never gave up. Why? Because he understood the value of the treasure within him and the ripple effect his faithfulness would have on others. Ministry is not just for pastors or missionaries; every believer is called to pour into others—at home, at work, and in every sphere of life. The pain and setbacks we experience are not pointless; when surrendered to Christ, they become platforms for His glory and opportunities for others to see what true faithfulness looks like. The key to resilience is not focusing on our own fragility, but on the surpassing power of God at work in us. Our present troubles, though real and painful, are small compared to the eternal glory that awaits. We are called to fix our eyes not on what is seen and temporary, but on what is unseen and eternal. In our weakness, God's strength is made perfect, and our faithfulness leaves a legacy that outlasts our lives.[00:00] - Welcome[01:00] - Honoring Mothers and Their Spiritual Legacy[03:19] - The Art of Bouncing Back: Tennis Ball vs. Egg[06:30] - Paul and the Church at Corinth: Context and Struggles[08:53] - Hard Conversations and the Risk of Truth[10:32] - Religion vs. Relationship with Jesus[12:27] - God's Mercy and the Call to Never Give Up[14:48] - Pressed but Not Crushed: Paul's Couplets[17:19] - Ministry as Every Believer's Calling[19:37] - Disappointments and Setbacks in Ministry[22:35] - Paul's Resume of Resilience[28:26] - The Treasure in Fragile Clay Jars[32:36] - The Gospel: Forgiveness, Security, and Power[38:48] - Athletic Imagery: Wrestling and Boxing in Faith[40:22] - Nikki's Story: Real-Life Resilience[50:30] - The Ripple Effect of Faithfulness[52:29] - Shifting Perspective to the Eternal[54:00] - Invitation to Receive the Treasure and Prayer

In this remastered episode, I tell the story of a man I call “Spencer”—someone born into privilege but marked by rejection, failure, and political disaster. What set him apart wasn't perfection—it was persistence. He kept going, even when most thought he was finished. This episode is for every entrepreneur who's ever been tempted to quit. If you're struggling, this story is your reminder to get back up and keep moving forward.

TVC 688.1: TV Confidential remembers longtime radio host, author, recording artist, and game show legend Wink Martindale (Gambit, Debt, Tic Tac Dough, Winking at Life, “Deck of Cards”) with a special program-length tribute to the man who became synonymous with the words “emcee” and “host.” Wink Martindale passed away on Tuesday, Apr. 15, 2025 at the age of ninety-one. In this segment, Steve Beverly, retired professor of broadcast journalism at Union University in Jackson, TN (the hometown of Wink Martindale), game show historian, and the host of Steve Beverly's TV Classics, talks to Ed about Martindale developed his skills as a “quality ad-libber” early in his career by doing play-by-play for high school sports broadcasts; how he was often a de facto producer on the set of his game shows, always adapting to changing conditions in the format of the game (particularly in moments when things when awry); and why, unlike most broadcasters, Martindale was never afraid to take a risk by going to a bigger market. Steve Beverly recently re-aired Wink Comes Home, a 90-minute special that he hosted in November 2007 at Union University in which Wink discussed his life and career and took questions from the studio audience, as part of Steve Beverly's TV Classics. That episode is now available for viewing on demand on your smartphone, tablet, or laptop by going to EPlusTV6.com or, if you have the PBS app, typing in West TN PBS, where you'll find Steve Beverly's TV Classics on the drop-down menu of Local Shows.

This is the one thing I wish I knew earlier in my fatherhood journey. Fathers, especially, have a HUGE amount of influence with helping their kids achieve mastery over skills and parts of life that they might not otherwise accomplish without dad's influence. In this episode, we share 3 extreme examples of fathers casting huge visions and helping their children become world-class. We're not saying to go to these extremes, but it shows the power of high-support / high-expectation fatherhood. You have a life license to Create! God created in advance good works for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). We are limited by our desire and trust that God is for us, not against us. The passion inside you can be nurtured or it can be crushed. You must decide! I spoke at a funeral for a 75 year old relative a few weeks ago. Then this week I heard a podcast about a famous rock star who at 75 is doing more for music and business than he has ever done. He is so excited that he automatically wakes up at 5:00AM to start his day from pure excitement. The power to create greater works, be more excited, and passionate about achieving life should be astronomically greater, because you have a heavenly Father that has created you to do so! _______________________________ Looking for a new student ministry resource? Meditation-Grandpa Bill Asks:Close your eyes and take a deep breath, inhaling the fresh air of the Maine woods. Feel the cool breeze on your skin as you imagine yourself standing on the edge of a crystal-clear lake. The water is so still and reflective that it mirrors the sky above, a canvas of blue and white clouds.Grandpa Bill Asks: As you breathe in, visualize the worries and stresses of the day floating away, carried by the gentle breeze. Let them dissipate like the mist rising from the lake. With each exhale, release any tension or negativity, allowing it to dissolve into the water.Grandpa Bill Asks: Now, focus on the gentle rhythm of your breath, the rise and fall of your chest. Each inhale brings in energy and vitality, each exhale releases any remaining tension. Feel your body becoming lighter, more relaxed, and more connected to the earth beneath you.Grandpa Bill Asks: As you continue to breathe deeply, imagine yourself walking along the lakeshore, surrounded by the beauty of nature. The sun warms your skin, the trees provide shade and shelter, and the sounds of the forest create a symphony of peace and tranquility.Grandpa Bill Asks: Now, open your eyes and return to the present moment, feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Carry this sense of peace and calm with you throughout your day.Grandpa Bill: Thanks you for joining me in this meditation. The best podcast for military veterans, police officers, firefighters, and first responders preparing for veteran transition and life after service. Helping you plan and implement strategies to prepare for your transition into civilian life. In this episode, Navy SEAL veteran John Collins shares an unfiltered, gritty look into what it takes to navigate the unforgiving landscape of military life—and rebuild purpose after devastating setbacks. If you're a veteran or first responder seeking inspiration, identity, and lessons in mental fortitude, this episode is a must-listen. John opens up about his upbringing in small-town Maryland, early brushes with trouble, and the dream that kept calling—becoming a Navy SEAL. With candid vulnerability, he recounts multiple grueling attempts at SEAL training, the mental resilience following the obstacles put in his way, but this story doesn't end in defeat. Shipped off to Guantanamo Bay as a "BUD/S dud," John found himself face-to-face with high-level detainees, performing duties he never imagined—balancing human dignity with the reality of national security. For veterans and law enforcement professionals, his prison operations experience reveals rare crossover insights into correctional environments, chain-of-command politics, and professional identity in uniform. What makes this story powerful is John's relentless pursuit of redemption. Amidst command resistance and peer resentment, he trained in silence, kept his nose clean, and fought his way back into BUD/S and eventually earned his Trident – after being part of 6 different classes. It's a story of raw perseverance and the kind of internal discipline only military and first responder communities truly understand. He eventually chose to exit the Navy after 12 years due to ineffective leadership and the desire to pursue a family. Today he is a Safety Director. Listeners will relate to John's personal reflections on loss, leadership, and the battle between self-doubt and grit. Whether you're a transitioning service member, aspiring operator, or someone looking for motivation after failure, this episode delivers a profound message: the fight for purpose is never over, and resilience is forged in the fire of rejection.CONNECT WITH THE PODCAST:IG: WEBSITE: LinkedIn: SIGN-UP FOR THE NEWSLETTER:QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS:CONNECT WITH JOHN COLLINSSPONSORS:Brothers & Arms USAGet 20% off your purchaseLink: https://brothersandarms.comPromo Code: Transition20Trident CoffeeGet 15% off your purchaseLink: https://tridentcoffee.comPromo Code: TDP15Human Performance TRTGet 30% off your purchaseWeb: https://hptrt.com/Promo Code: TDP
Nearly 40, 000.That's the United Nations estimate for the number of children who have been killed or injured since Israel began its war with Hamas some 18 months ago. Last year, NPR profiled one injured Gazan boy, Nimer Sadi al-Nimer, who was shot five times by the Israeli military while he and his father were gathering food dropped by parachute outside Gaza City. This week, NPR Gaza producer Anas Baba tracked Nimer down to hear what the past year has been like. NPR correspondent Rob Schmitz speaks with Baba about what he learned after reconnecting with Nimer. For sponsor-free episodes of Consider This, sign up for Consider This+ via Apple Podcasts or at plus.npr.org.Email us at considerthis@npr.org.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
