00:00:20:00: NHL on TNT's Liam McHugh chats Winter Classic memories, what's next for Vegas and Seattle, sitting next to The Great One in hockey's western world, Sabre woes and more.
The New Year always opens with one of our favorite productions of the year: the NHL Winter Classic. This year, the event visited the Pacific Northwest and T-Mobile Park in Seattle as the league's two newest franchises – the Vegas Golden Knights and the Seattle Kraken - met up outdoors. This is now the third year that the NHL on TNT and the team from Warner Bros. Discovery Sports have handled the production and, as usual, it was a feast for the eyes. On this episode of The SVG Podcast, we reflect on the broadcast with Lee Estroff, Director of Technical Operations at WBD Sports to get his take on what made this baseball stadium a beautiful place to broadcast a hockey game from, what advice he would give to someone working on a live sports production in a unique locale, and much more. The SVG Podcast is for the sports-video–production professional looking to keep up with the latest in sports-video–production operations and technology. The program features interviews with some of the biggest, most influential names in the sports-video business talking trends and topics that impact the industry.

The Philadelphia Flyers have taken two rough losses since last week's Calgary Flames OT thriller. They battled back to tie the Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning and engaged in a tumultuous overtime period before going down in a shootout (can we get rid of those already?). The club then hosted the Boston Bruins and took a beating. The worst loss was in the Calgary game when Flyers forward Kevin Hayes suffered a reinjury and is now considered week-to-week per Jordan Hall of NBCSports Philadelphia. Tonight, however, the Flyers hit the road to take on the same Tampa Bay Lightning from less than a week ago! Will the Flyers be able to bounce back and have their revenge? Or will the team suffer a third-straight loss minus their second-line center and let us not forget, Ryan Ellis, who also went down to reinjury. We have the entire Injury Report. Also on tap for tonight, a look around the league with an NHL on TNT preview. This week the Toronto Maple Leafs travel to the city of angels for a Thanksgiving Eve matchup against the Los Angeles Kings. And speaking of the Pacific Division, we take a look at the Anaheim Ducks surprising start! Join Brian and Pov as they give their live reactions and takes.
The Philadelphia Flyers had a bumpy adventure away from Philadelphia. They started off in Raleigh with a win over the Carolina Hurricanes, but their trip to Texas would not fare so well. The Philadelphia Flyers lost 5-2 to the Dallas Stars on Saturday. Tonight, however, the Flyers return to the Wells Fargo Arena to host the Calgary Flames in some prime-time NHL action! Will the Flyers be able to bounce back? Do they rely on Carter Hart and Martin Jones too much and that is what costs them victories? Should Claude Giroux and Kevin Hayes step up and lead this team to proper victories on the ice and take pressure off the goalies? How much of a problem will Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau be tonight? Also tonight the Philadelphia Flyers honor Rick Tocchet and Paul Holmgren as they welcome them into the Orange and Black Hall of Fame! Join us as we take a look back at their legendary careers. Also on tap for tonight, a look around the league with an NHL on TNT preview. This week the Chicago Blackhawks take the ice against the Seattle Kraken. The score is tied, time just ran out in regulation, and it's now time for the Shoot Out! Join Matt, Rob, and Brian as they rapid-fire answers to five different weekly topics.
