Today's Guest is Moe! Hello Friends, If you are a podcast fan, you have noticed that your favorite podcast may have offered you a different podcast that you might like and labeled it, "You Might Like This". This podcast that you are currently listening to is called, "The Jazz, Blues & R&B Podcast and Radio Show PERIOD!" I pulled the plug of my own show until early November. No Jazz, No Blues, and No R&B Period! I am your host Tom Gouker and for the last 23 years, I have been stressed out and freaked out as to how our country is functioning. I feel alone with my anguish, I am frustrated. I can not be the only person that feels this type of frustration....so I am pulling the plug and I want to talk about it. For the next 100 days or so, I will be interviewing people who are nervous as I am and have their own concerns about the future. We might not be using their names, or showing their faces, they may ask for their voice to be altered, it is that serious for them. This temporary show is called, PLEASE HELP ME OFF THE LEDGE! I have reached out to my family, friends, and faith leaders. The goal is to talk and try to heal and get us to a better place! And, personally, help me off the ledge. This is too important....we will get back to Jazz in November 2024 --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/somethingcame-from-baltim/support

This temporary show is called, PLEASE HELP ME OFF THE LEDGE! and I have reached out to my family, friends, along with faith leaders. The goal is to talk and try to heal and get us to a better place! And, personally , help me off the ledge. This is too important....we will get back to Jazz in November 2024! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/somethingcame-from-baltim/support

MUSIC, it's what defines a person , it can perk you up, or tear you down, depending on what music you're into. My generation had some of the best musical artists it's hard to pick a favorite, but they all had their own styles, their own voice, their own path.....NOW......everyone sounds the same, auto tunes, bad production, and lack of talent can cause all that. HIP HOP as well, not only do I not know what they are saying, I also sound like my father.......how ironic, don't you think? thesaint14@hotmail.com --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thesaintsays/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thesaintsays/support

Mikko Rantanen saved the Avs from disaster after a blown lead with a goal with 7 seconds left in regulation, and winning the game in overtime with a hat trick to get the Avs back in the win column. You might not know Andrew Synowiec's name, but chances are you've heard his guitar playing. Heck, chances are you heard his guitar playing this week.Synowiec makes his living as an LA session guitarist, with a list of credits as long as the California coastline. Among those credits: you can hear him on the score for pretty much every recent Disney film (Frozen, CoCo, Zootopia), as well superhero flicks like Logan and Spider-Man: Far From Home, TV shows like The Simpsons and The Good Place, as well as on records with recording artists like The Who, HAIM, P!nk, Nick Jonas, Donna Summer, and so many more. A couple weeks back, Kirk sat down with Andrew to talk about his career as a session player, how he finds a good balance when doing creative work for hire, his approach to practicing and guitar tone, how he designed and built his home studio, and why he continues to make the time for his own personal music projects.FEATURED/DISCUSSED ON THIS EPISODE:Guy Lacour etude No. 4 as performed by David Hernando Vitores: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyGo9NmZUNwWes Montgomery on “No Blues” from Smokin' at the Half Note w/ the Wynton Kelly Trio, 1965“Where The Streets Have No Name” by U2 from The Joshua Tree, 1987“Sad But True” by Metallica from Metallica, 1991“Blood and Thunder” by Mastodon from Leviathan, 2004“Last Goodbye” by Jeff Buckley from Grace, 1994“Already Taken,” “Second Story,” and “Humor Me” by Andrew Synowiec from Second Story, 2019“Jonkoloni” by Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba from Segu Blue, 2006, feat. the Ngoni“Salsa Caliente (Versión Aumentada)” by Meridian Brothers from Desperanza, 2012“You Are Young” by Keane from Strangeland, 2012A video with Andrew about his work and his home studioA Spotify playlist Andrew maintains featuring things he's played onAndrew's website, with lots more credits and other infoSTRONG MERCHCheck out the Strong Songs merch store for some cool t-shirts, mugs, totes, and more: store.strongsongspodcast.comJOIN THE STRONG SONGS DISCORDThe Strong Songs Discord server is now open to everyone! Take a seat and drift with us through new and old reworked smooth, mellow (soon to be) classics. It continues to be a really good year music-wise for our mellow sound, we already have pretty amazing new tracks by some of our big TSTD favourites like Breakbot, Winston Surfshirt, Toro Y Moi, Prep and Poolside. Lots of cover versions by modern acts, some rather surprisingly different from the original (Alma Este, Ada…). . "No News No Blues“ felt like a perfect title, as it is a pretty good way of surfing through today's times of unstoppable crisis, we should all turn off our online channels more often and… Live A Little! Our theme this week comes from Robert Christgau, who can turn a phrase better than any other music critic. (The) Dismemberment Plan’s Emergency & I is all nervy energy, jittery mood swings, and mid-20s panic. It’s also an album Matt and Tim like quite a lot. For replacements, Matt offers two albums even closer to his heart in Motion City Soundtrack’s I Am the Movie and Los Campesinos! No Blues. We talk ennui and existentialism and freaking the f*** out, then Tim does some fun math to make a choice.

On this episode, Kirk dives in to one of the most influential jazz recordings of all time. (For real this time.) As the lead track on Miles Davis's landmark album Kind of Blue, "So What" signaled a new era in jazz harmony, composition, and improvisation. This episode will get into what that actually means, how the tune works, and why the seven musicians who played on Kind of Blue were each such a crucial part of the album's magic.

Remember the David Simon HBO series Treme? The one based in New Orleans? And the character Davis McAlary? You know, the guy who got fired from WWOZ for sacrificing a chicken in a Voodoo ceremony while on the air? The guy who was kinduva semi-lovable asshole? Well that character was based on a real person who actually had a hand in creating that character (played by Steve Zahn) and also helping create some of the music in the series. His real name is Davis Rogan who is from New Orleans, but went to college at Reed in Portland (and then went home). He's been here before, at Al's Den. He'll be here again on Thursday, August 16 at The Old Church Concert Hall. As Dr. John likes to say, Davis is a Ky-RACK-ter. I spoke with him over the weekend via Skype. He was in Chicago, having opened for Michael McDonald in Oshkosh, WI on the 9th. He would be playing in a club in Chicago that night. He has several albums and we'll end the conversation with a tune called "No Blues" from his latest album Davis Ex Machina. He'll be playing solo piano and singing his quirky tunes in Portland. He's a strange dude. You might even like him.
