The PEI 300 ranking of private equity's biggest fundraisers is becoming an even more exclusive club: this year, a manager needed to have raised at least $2.3 billion over the preceding five-year period, up from $2.08 billion in the previous ranking. The 300 firms in this year's ranking raised a whopping $3.28 trillion between them – a 6 percent year-on-year increase. In the top 10 alone, these firms raised $741 billion, up more than $10 billion from the previous ranking. In this episode of Spotlight, PEI senior editor Adam Le, Americas correspondent Hannah Zhang and Hong Kong bureau chief Alex Lynn delve into the figures of this year's PEI 300 to look at a few trends including: GP stakes firms' positions in the ranking; the movement of Asia-Pacific-headquartered firms in the list; and why GP-LP communication is more important than ever when it comes to fundraising.
It's no secret that raising Asia-Pacific private equity funds has become extremely difficult, with regulatory uncertainty, geopolitical tensions and shifting risk appetites contributing to one of the region's toughest-ever fundraising environments. According to Private Equity International data, funds in the region raised $49.2 billion last year, down substantially from $77.6 billion in 2022 and less than half the $122.9 billion raised in 2021. Only 187 funds held a final close in 2023 – roughly half the 365 closed in 2022 and less than a third of the 637 closed in 2021. With LPs more selective than ever in the region, the onus is on GPs to stand out from the crowd. In this episode, PEI Group Hong Kong bureau chief Alex Lynn sits down with three of the region's most senior fundraisers – Monument Group partner Niklas Amundsson, Atlantic-Pacific Capital partner Vincent Ng and Asante Capital's head of Asia Ricardo Felix – to discuss how shifting LP appetites are reshaping these markets. To read more about what to expect from APAC private equity in 2024, read our story in Private Equity International here.

Coming into the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend, we got the opportunity to chat with Alex about his previous racing exploits and how that will benefit the CGR Cadillac team going into 2023 with the rules switch to hybrid powerplants. Welcome to Episode 23 of the Lovecars On the Grid Podcast where Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman kick off this podcast with what is possibly the most well-known race in the World! It is of course Le Mans, which was incredibly exciting! We all wanted number 7 to win, with British drive Mike Conway behind the wheel of the Toyota, alongside ex Formula 1 driver Kamui Kobayashi and Argentinian driver José María López. What did you think of the look of the Toyota? The LMP2 battle went right down to the last lap, with just 2.8 seconds between Team WRT and Team Jota for 1st place and nearly running over the chequered flag bearer! We were excited for the Glickenhaus cars out there for the first time with the 007 LMH, finishing in 4th and 5th place. It was a decorated race for British drivers too, with LMP2 3rd place for Will Stevens and 4th place for the all British LMP2 team, consisting of Paul Di Resta, Alex Lynn and Wayne Boyd. In the GTE Pro category, British driver, James Calado achieved first place in the Ferrari 488 GTE Evo with his fellow drivers, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Côme Ledogar. We had friends that came out of the race too sadly, with retirements from Ryan Cullen and Oli Webb, both have featured on our channel. The winning car had no less than 33 pit stops, covered a staggering 5,000KM over 1,440 minutes (24 hours)! Fingers crossed Paul and Tiff can attend next year! Who wants to join us? The DTM was at the Nurburgring this weekend and finally we have a win from ex Formula 1 driver, Alex Albon! In the two-wheeled World, the Superbikes were in Navarra, Spain this weekend, with Turkish rider, Toprak Razgatlioglu winning the race on his Yamaha, now equalling championship points with British rider, Jonathan Rea on his Kawasaki. The British Superbikes were at Cadwell Park, with a win for Peter Hickman on the BMW and Jason O'Halloran on the Yamaha. Over the pond in America, Indycar was won by American driver Josef Newgarden, closely followed by Mexican driver, Pato O'Ward in second. Just three races to go in this series, who will win? NASCAR was in Michigan, at the FireKeepers Casino 400 race and a brilliantly quick last few laps! Kyle Larson and William Byron were challenging for the lead, but Ryan Blaney managed to take it in the Ford #12. The next race is the last round of the 'play-offs', with the top 16 drivers going through. Coming up, we have the Formula 1 in Spa to look forward to, supported by Formula 3 and W Series, where anything could happen! The Lewis Hamilton vs. Max Verstappen battle will continue! Who will win the Formula 1 championship? BTCC will be at Thruxton, whilst Tiff will be at Silverstone to watch Valentino Rossi's last race, at the British Moto GP! The electric beach buggies, otherwise known at Extreme E, are in Greenland this weekend!

It was a chaotic opening weekend for Formula E in Diriyah, that included, but wasn't limited to, the most dominant first race in the series history from Nyck de Vries, two pretty scary major incidents in FP3 and Race 2 from Edo Mortara and Alex Lynn, EIGHT post-race penalties, and Sam Bird running down a pitlane with high fives. Matt Kew is back from attending the first two Formula E events to answer the big questions arising from both action-packed races. Friday was dominated by a supreme performance from Nyck der Vries who dominated every session and drove to a commanding win in the first ePRix of the Diriyah double header. On Saturday, Sam Bird would be handed the win after a red flag brought a premature end with 3 minutes left on the clock, which overshadowed a victory he always looked to have under control. Two major incidents naturally dominated the talking points. Alex Lynn ended his weekend upside down in his Mahindra after a spectacular airborne incident which, somehow, wasn't the scariest moment of the weekend. That honour goes to Edoardo Mortara who accelerated off the track and hit the wall head-on during the Saturday practice session. “To be frank with you I thought that was pretty much the end for me" he said afterwards. On the podcast we explain how a software issue left Mortara with no ability to stop the car, and what the solution was.In the latest episode of Teammate Wars, DS Techeetah’s Vergne and da Costa wound up in another situation which required a post-race summit to establish the rules of engagement. Again. Matt Kew (Autosport Editorial Assistant) is joined by Alex Kalinauckas (Grand Prix Editor, Autosport).
