Re-watch Podcast Ahsoka Part Five Shadow Warrior Here we are recording the podcast episode we were supposed to have recorded in the first place. I admit, I fucked up. Whoops. Moving on. Despite my mistake, I am grateful for having re-watched this episode. Mostly because of Hayden Christensen's reprisal as Anakin. I said it during the episode and I'll say it here, my man still has the moves. It did not look like the they used a stunt double at all! Compare Christensen's performance to Ewan McGregor's. Granted, there is an age gap between the two. It does not change the fact that McGregor looked tired on screen and even though Anakin is dead, Christensen looked alive playing him. Unfortunately, while his performance stood out, young Ahsoka's did not. Nothing against Arianna Greenblatt. As I'm writing this, I see that she played Sasha in the Barbie movie. She was great in that as the snot nosed daughter. While she kinda acts lack a brat in this episode, it's more likely a reaction to the dialog she's being paid to recite. While Hayden Christensen looks good on screen, his delivery of the awful lines written for him were not much better. For many of us, Star Wars is the only film any of us have seen him in. Many more would also agree his delivery of George Lucas's poorly written lines did not help either. This episode was alright. It's not great. Nor is it terrible. If it was not obvious that the star whales would be used to jump to hyperspace to follow Morgan and her goons to Peridea, then you must have been watching a different show. The Ahsoka series on Disney+ has reached its finale. On this episode of Hyperspace Theories, Tricia Barr and B.J. Priester analyze the storytelling in Part Six “Far, Far Away,” Part Seven “Dreams and Madness,” and Part Eight “The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord” and consider what Ahsoka establishes for the future of Star Wars tales. We begin by examining the conclusions to the character arcs of Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren, and their relationship as master and apprentice. With Ezra Bridger reunited with his old friends, the series portrays three different perspectives on what it has meant and can mean to be a Jedi. On the other hand, Shin Hati parts ways with her master and starts the journey of finding her own path. In addition, we discuss the character arcs of other key players, including Baylan Skoll, Hera Syndulla, Morgan Elsbeth, and of course the series' nemesis, Grand Admiral Thrawn. The third act of Ahsoka also leans into the mythology of Star Wars, especially the deeper themes about the Force. Sabine may not be a naturally gifted wielder of the Force, but her years of training with Ahsoka and her willingness to open her mind to its possibilities ultimately manifest in her use of telekinetic energy. Despite his years in isolation from other Jedi, Ezra is confident with the Force as his ally, and their cooperation is part of what inspires Sabine to unlock her own potential. Even as a Master, Ahsoka has more to learn, and by the end of the final episode she has found her own serenity by supporting her apprentice and finding serenity in knowing that they are where they supposed to be. Which may have something to do with the conclusion of Baylan's quest: reaching giant statues of the Mortis overlords and gazing upon a distant light last seen in that mystical realm. While Thrawn's return to the main galaxy heralds political and military conflict to come, the tale of the Jedi and the Force on Peridea has much more to offer, as well. The Ahsoka series premiered and aired on Disney+ during the concurrent ongoing strikes against Disney and other major Hollywood studios by unions representing the writers (WGA) and actors (SAG-AFTRA) who are indispensable to their productions. Accordingly, neither Filoni nor any of the actors in Ahsoka could participate in promotional interviews or other marketing for the series (although they appear in material previously recorded, such as interviews at Star Wars Celebration in April, that is shared by Disney or entertainment journalists). Aside from its value in raising the visibility of the series to the prospective audience, such interviews with talent often provide fascinating insight into the storytelling process, characterization and motivations, and the themes and values underlying a series. We are disappointed that the studios have denied the talent the opportunity to participate in the excitement of the series launch, and the fans and audience the ability to share in their enthusiasm and learn from it, through their unwillingness to agree to reasonable terms relating to changing technology, shifts in production and distribution within the industry, and a fair sharing of billions of dollars in global profits with those who make those profits possible in the first place. Despite the ongoing strikes, the unions have not called for a boycott of the studios: they encourage fans and audience to watch newly released films and series (to demonstrate their value and profitability) and have clarified that non-promotional activities such as reviews, criticism, and analysis are not inconsistent with the terms of the strike. The calm before the storm.....is usually how it goes....but not in this pre-finale episode! Baylan and Shin catch up to Ezra and Sabine, and it's guns and sabers blazing! Although Baylan decides it's time to let Shin go her own way, and is about to leave when Ahsoka comes tumbling in from the sky for the inevitable rematch, but once again, he proves he's more powerful, and only HuYang arriving just in time allows Ahsoka to make her getaway. Ezra shows us he's still got Force game and refuses to use a lightsaber, going all Monk style on the troopers. But he and Sabine quickly get outnumbered until Ahsoka runs into the rescue! Meanwhile, Thrawn sees this as an opportunity to get ahead, with the time gained from this skirmish, and starts gathering his troops to prepare to leave Peridea! What will happen in the finale? Night Troopers were the stormtroopers who served aboard the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Chimaera under the command of Captain of the Guard Enoch. The troopers comprised the forces of Grand Admiral Thrawn while they were stranded on the planet Peridea away from the known galaxy following the Battle of Lothal in 1 BBY, when Thrawn's Star Destroyer was taken by the intergalactic-traveling purrgil at the request of the Jedi Ezra Bridger. Huyang surmises that Sabine's desire to find Ezra Bridger left her with no other choice. Meanwhile in the distant galaxy, the Eye of Sion arrives at Peridea, the ancient homeworld of Morgan Elsbeth's people, the Dathomiri. Elsbeth, Baylon Skoll, Shin Hati, and Sabine Wren meet the Great Mothers, a group of Nightsisters allied with Thrawn. As they wait for the Grand Admiral's arrival, Baylon relates to Shin Hati his belief that the fall of the Jedi and the rise of the Empire were part of an inevitable cycle, one he intends to break. Thrawn arrives with his Star Destroyer, the Chimaera, and honours Bayoln's promise by providing Sabine with provisions, a mount, and the latest intelligence on Ezra's whereabouts.After Sabine leaves, Thrawn orders Baylon and Shin to follow her so they can kill both her and Ezra. Surviving an ambush by bandits, Sabine encounters the native Noti and follows them to their village, where she reunites with Ezra Bridger. While tracking Sabine, Baylon senses that there is a greater power on Peridea and tells Hati that he intends to find and use it. Meanwhile The Great Mothers warn Grand Admiral Thrawn that a Jedi is coming with the Purrgil. As the title implies, we're finally in another galaxy. The "enemy" has arrived on Peridea and with it we get the resplendent return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, and his first appearance in live action. Like an old shoe, Thrawn slips right into the narrative like he's always been there (Most impressive!). We also get our first real look at another character that's been teased since the first episode, but unfortunately the emotions of that scene don't really hold a candle to the effectively bombastic entrance of the blue man. This episode, by it's nature, does a lot of work tying up loose ends, and squashing fan theories, leaving only a small handful of mysteries left to be revealed. The most intriguing of which being whatever it is that Baylon is after. His character continues to be one of, if not the most compelling on the show so far, and with Ahsoka set to make her appearance on Peridea next week, I expect things will heat up even further.

This second episode was awesome! We have a new galaxy to explore in Star Wars with new villains and powers beyond the Jedi and Sith. Baylan says that galaxy, Peridea has power that we have never seen before. I believe this is a galaxy with a new set of rules. New people. New powers. Powers beyond the force, perhaps Magic. I think it's absolutely brilliant how Dave has created another galaxy, many of them in fact, and is introducing new civilizations that make even Baylan, a powerful Jedi who survived Order 66, amazed. Ahsoka and Hera observe the hyperdrives being dismantled on Corellia to be repurposed to the New Republic, as they learn that ex Imperials work for the new republic, still on pay roll. They were never fired, they all kept their same job just no longer under the Empire. They talk about Sabine becoming Ahsoka's apprentice again, and Ahsoka is reluctant. A medical droid attends to Sabine's wounds, this is the same class of droid that worked on Anakin as he transformed into Darth Vader. Huyang walks in and tells Sabine that Ezra's lightsaber is actually now hers because she has modified it to her liking. He hands it to her after some encouraging words, and she is going to get serious now instead of being such a rebellious brat. We learn that these dismantled imperial fleet ships when sold are profitable to fund many different republic projects among other things. As Hera notices the hyperdrive core outside being built, they're told 9 have been built. This core is WAY too big to be used for any new republic ship. The information is classified and General Hera Syndulla is being denied. Ahsoka asks about the HK assassin droids that could be repurposed here, as they learn a droid of this class does exist here, currently departing on that transport. The traitorous workers scream FOR THE EMPIRE and attack Ahsoka and Hera, as Hera races for the Ghost and Ahsoka jumps out the window facing Marrok. The inquisitor loyal to Baylan it seems, as he holds a red lightsaber. They fight as Hera chases the hyperdrive core being transported. Chopper tries to find the tracker, as he throws a literal big LEGO piece out, finally finding the tracker. This is hilarious. Marrock can't take Ahsoka and ends up running away to his or her ship. I have no clue who this is. It could be Barris Offee I think, but I don't know. Ashoka dodges his lightsaber as it returns to him, she's in control of all emotions and can sense everything. She's very samurai. Very one with the force. Sabine heads back home, lays her Mandalorian armor out like a Samurai, kneels before it which is very ritual like, and cuts her hair. The imperial loyalists on Corellia are arrested. Also, for a fun fact, Corellia is where Han Solo was raised. Sabine sends a holo to Ahsoka of her in armor. She's ready. We're now at the very end of Rebels where she dawns the armor, observing the mural of the ghost crew, touching Ezra's face, turning to see Ahsoka there to pick her up. We're now all caught up and ready to find Ezra…and…THRAWN. Huyang informs them Hera Syndulla has tracked the ship, they're in Denab system, in orbit around the planet Seatos. As the hyperdrive cores are being put together, we can see this is HUGE. Clearly something big enough for a massive ship to be launched into hyperspace…or perhaps…open a portal using the power of the hyperdrive cores. Learn more about your ad choices.
