(1:33)  Jim and his partner have been studying immortality since 1972. They discuss the early lack of scientific knowledge on the topic but mention hearing a geneticist in 1975 who confirmed the possibility of immortality. They formed an international organization called People Forever to speak about immortality and super longevity worldwide. (02:18)  Dr. Gladden and Jim say that the fear of death motivates our extreme fear of living, but there is scientific evidence that suggests a longer and healthier lifespan is possible through various innovations. (03:48)  Immortality may not be achieved through one magic bullet but through a series of steps. (5:14)  Jim shares that we don't only have the ability to live an unlimited lifespan but also to be maximally creative. (07:40)  Jim notes that living without fully embracing goals and being limited by time prevents human development and self-discovery. (10:42)  Jim explains that because of the old death pattern we live in, we are repeating the same old patterns. (12:45)  An international organization called People Unlimited promotes unlimited lifespans and immortality. They formed a coalition for radical life extension and organized a Woodstock-like event that drew over a thousand people, including scientists. The event has grown and will have more presenters this year. (15:05)  They discuss cross-pollination of ideas among brilliant and ambitious individuals in the field, fostering innovation and creating an environment for scientists to collaborate. They also mention a project focused on decoding aging and manipulating genetic expression for youthfulness. (19:29)  Jim talks about RAADfest, where it's going to be, the location, and how to learn more. (21:35)  Jim considers the belief in an innate energy in our bodies that can potentially lead to unlimited lifespans but emphasizes the need for effort and change to access it. (24:02)  By freeing biology from limiting thoughts, embracing a new life force, and shifting mindset, one can profoundly impact health and productivity, leading to a longer and more fulfilling life. (27:27)  The spirit of immortality is in our bodies. (29:00)  For a RAADfest discount code and more information, visit raadfest.com. For this weeks episode we are going to look at a brief interview I recently did with James Strole about my upcoming presentation at the RAADFEST conference in October in San Diego.  While the interview is entitled ‘Extending Life with Rapamycin', I want to be clear that 1- the use of rapamycin is an off label use of an FDA approved prescription only drug, 2-rapamycin is a potentially dangerous drug that should only be used under the care of a physician with experience in this area, and 3- although extremely promising longevity results are present in animal models the longevity benefits of rapamycin in humans are still being determined. As you can tell I am looking forward all the great speakers at the RAADFEST conference this fall.  If are planning on attending please use code ‘LUFKIN' at checkout for 10% off any registration. https://raadfest.com/Support the show

Dr. Kaufmann began her academic career in the field of cellular biology, earning a Master’s Degree from the University of Connecticut in Tropical Ecology and Plant Physiology. Turning to medicine, she received her medical degree at the University of Maryland and completed a residency and fellowship at Johns Hopkins in the field of pediatric anesthesiology. For the last seven years she has been the Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia at the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, a nationally recognized center of excellence.  Her avid interest in the science of anti-aging begun many years ago as an intense hobby. Utilize- ing her knowledge in cell biology, human pharmacology, and physiology, this hobby has now become the main focus. The Kaufmann Protocol represents years of non-clinical research leading to the first-ever, comprehensive theory of aging, complete with an explanation of why we age and the tools to decelerate the process.  Dr. Kaufmann has lectured at Raad Fest, People Unlimited, The Church of Perpetual Life and can be heard on talk radio as well as innumerable podcasts such as Ben Greenfield and Bulletproof podcasts.  The interview: Sandra shares a little bit about herself admitting she doesn't have the best diet but really kicks butt exercising. She started off as a cell biologist but dove into antiaging and found she can decelerate cellular aging. Sandra shares molecular ways to cheat the system. She loves rock climbing Dr. Kaufmann’s non-negotiable antiaging practices. She shares the 7 ways we age. Check them out here: https://www.kaufmannprotocol.com/7-tenets  Dr. Kaufmann’s five agents she takes that helps with the 7 tenants of aging. Check out her page with all agents and dosages: https://www.kaufmannprotocol.com/doses-links-2 NICOTINAMIDE: General Information Nicotinamide is made naturally in the body, beginning with the amino acid tryptophan. Eight steps later, it is converted into our usable substance, NAD or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. There is also a salvage pathway which is more efficient. It does four things in the body. It helps make energy, What does NAD do? It is crucial for cellular activity. Specifically, it does the following: 1) In mitochondria, it is an essential part of the electron transport chain which is necessary to produce cellular energy.  2) It is necessary for DNA repair. The molecule itself gets disassembled, and its pieces are used as replacement parts in the actual DNA. 3) It provides communication between the nucleus and mitochondria 4) It acts as a necessary Co-factor for the sirtuin family 12:01 We have never eaten well. There has never been a golden age of eating. So supplementing can give us some edge and be a great thing.  Let’s talk Metformin. (WWW.QUALYTUDE.COM to get Metformin) Metformin does so many amazing things General Information on Metformin: Earlier use of the base plant, Galega officinalis or the French Lilac, was documented in Medieval Europe as an herbal remedy for diabetic symptoms. Metformin was officially discovered in 1922. Human studies didn't begin until the 1950s, however. It was then that the French physician Jean Sterne introduced the substance to her countrymen as a prescription medication in 1957. The compound debuted in the United States in 1995. Presently, up to 150 million people are on the agent. Interest in the medication as an anti-aging agent was peaked by a study released in 2014.  Type 2 diabetics on either metformin or sulfuronureas (a different type of glucose controlling agent) were retrospectively compared with non-diabetics on neither of these drugs. Comparing 150,000 people, the type 2 diabetics on metformin had higher survivability. Let me rephrase…The diabetics did better than non-diabetics.  In fact, among patients in their 70’s, mortality was reduced by 15% in the metformin group. Be aware you may need more amino’s and B vitamins when taking Metformin! Two personal questions Dr. Kaufmann answered. She shared she is in talks with QVC to bring her protocols to people in an easy and cost-effective way.  Also, anti-aging starts at the cellular level. Botox and injections are just spackle. You've no doubt heard of it by now... In an attempt to live longer, some anti-aging enthusiasts are getting themselves injected with the blood of young humans, via a process deemed: plasmaphoresis. This podcast is about several age reversal therapies. It's also about biohacking Alzheimers. It's about all these therapies (senolytics, exosomes, gdf-11, etc) that scientists have been talking about for age reversal. The podcast is about biological aging clocks and biomarkers to measure them. You'll learn about ways that you can biohack Alzheimer's disease, how to measure your biological age, how to reverse aging, what the biggest obstacle to age reversal is, how to get more involved in the anti-aging community and more. About the Guests Mark Urdahl, is a technology entrepreneur from the Silicon Valley.  He has numerous patents and has worked in big data.  He began his career at IBM's medical instruments subsidiary that pioneered plasmaphoresis.  Mark founded  to advance new uses for well established therapeutic plasma exchange therapies which have recently evidenced a previously undocumented potential to rejuvenate the body's own stem cells, restore aging immune systems, and prevent the onset of many age-related disease condition, so that we might live healthy as we age and ultimately live longer lives.     Tom Ingloglia first appeared on this podcast in the episode ""  As you learn in that episode, Tom is a private investor with a master’s degree in finance. In the midst of trading, investing in technology and developing real estate in Costa Rica, Tom became very sick. He was initially prescribed antibiotics, suffered from an adverse reaction and was told that he’d have stomach problems for the rest of his life. In the years that followed, Tom also developed severe food allergies. His symptoms worsened, and he next began dealing with insomnia, anxiety, muscle pain, tendinopathies, joint pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, altered and clouded cognition and headaches. He finally had a mental breakdown in 2008. After a prolonged period of taking antibiotics, Tom began experiencing tendonitis throughout his fingers, hands, wrists and ankles and feet, so he started taking pain medications to relieve this pain. He had to give up his career in trading because his sole focus for the next eight years would be on finding a cure to his growing symptoms. His life consisted of working with physical therapists, going to the gym, going to new doctors, and trying new foods to see if it would help. Throughout Tom’s eight-year battle, he was prescribed consistently and persistently more medication. For six years, he was taking excessive amounts of Hydrocodone and Tramadol every day. Tom became obsessed with researching symptoms and treatments, and learned about the NAD+ treatment. He visited a clinic, and on Day 7 of his treatment, “It hit me. I started feeling better. I felt amazing. There was a calm that came over me. I felt safe. I just had no cravings for drugs or pain meds. There was no need for them. I just didn’t have the excruciating pain that I had before. I felt eight years of pain melting away.” Tom has nearly fully recovered, using related treatments to NAD+, and has engaged two cofounders to assist him in building out a facility to help bring this treatment to others in similar situations. In my conversation with Mark and Tom, you'll discover: -The history of and how "heterochronic plasma exchange" works...16:00 Heterochronic plasma means simply removing old plasma and replacing it with "young" plasma. Others are experimenting with this concept. What Mark does is different from a plasma "infusion." Plasma is approximately half of our blood volume.  Mark began with IBM Biomedical Systems, who had invented what we now call the "blood cell processor." -The intricate means of testing used on mice...22:15 Basically creating "siamese twins" with mice by stitching them together. Similar procedures have been conducted on humans for over 50 years. Mark wanted to recruit the best medical professionals to the Young Blood Institute. Many of them have been doing it for 30-40 years. -What, if any, are the risks of these plasma exchanges...29:10 Roughly a 4% risk of a transfusion reaction, which is akin to what you might experience donating blood. One of the safer procedures in the medical field today. You go through 6 exchanges as part of a protocol. -The network of doctors that Mark and Tom have built to do a plasma exchange...32:42 There are medical professionals all over the U.S. that can do the procedure. Submit an inquiry on the website to find a doctor that is near you. -What anti-aging biomarkers Mark is tracking at the Young Blood Institute...34:51 They have more technology testing capability than Stanford, Johns Hopkins and Harvard combined. Key technology: time of flight mass cytometry. Single cell proteionomics. They are trying to develop early detection biomarkers that enables them to prevent the onset of diseases before they become significant. -The lowest hanging fruit for people to track...46:15 The YBI's concern is the function of the body, rather than the age. Your cells are not aware of your "age". -What a biological aging clock is...50:20 Zymo is a lab that has worked with Steven Horvath.  Looked at DNA, and seen a pattern from methyl groups attached to certain parts of the genome. -How can we track biological aging, or slow down our biological aging clock?...52:30 Inflammatory markers, heart age, brain age, lung age, skin elasticity. -The anti-aging booth that Mark and Tom will be operating at a conference called RAAD Fest...54:45 Want to have a contest where people calculate their age, and track their progress. Mark and Tom have one of the largest booths at the conference. -Whether NAD actually gets absorbed into a cell via injections or IV...1:00:30 How does Ben feel with an injection? Answer: Incredible. Tom doesn't recommend the injection due to the level of discomfort. -Why compounded formulas such as glutathione and Vitamin B could be taken off the market soon...1:07:30 There's a review similar to a court hearing, where people argue for and against glutathione. Taken off the market for compounding pharmacies. Tom "has his own reasons" for why this could be deemed unsafe. Core problem: the vitamins don't have any intellectual property. Could affect the costs of healthcare. -How to use technologies such as Vielight and exosomes to address Alzheimer's...1:14:30 Alzheimers is a $500 billion industry; the 6th leading cause of death. A Vielight is basically a laser light for your nose and head; photobiomodulation on your skull. -What GDF11 mRNA is and how it works to improve hearing, smell and sight...1:25:30 GDF11 is a DNA repair molecule; makes stem cells active again. Patients see improvements in sex drive, vision, smell, hearing, etc. Legal hurdles to being able to administer it. "Unofficial" results are very positive. -How senolytics works as a therapy for aging and Alzheimer's, and the importance of quercetin and tocotrienols...1:33:45 Describes small molecules that lead to the death of "zombie" cells that don't help the rest of your body.  "Natural Compounds that Remove Aging Cells" -And much more... On this episode, we're featuring a special RAAD Fest discussion from last year between Dr. Gladden and Dr. Jeffry Life, a doctor who has focused his practice on healthy aging and helping patients avoiding heart attacks and strokes. He incorporates the Bale-Doneen Method (learn more in the book Beat the Heart Attack Gene) in his treatment plans, which is about aggressively looking for vascular inflammation that causes heart disease and working to stop it. They discuss some of the testing that can be done to identify vascular risk factors, which fall outside of the normal insurance-based model of healthcare.  Dr. Life describes what he does for himself to improve his own health, fitness and longevity. He and Dr. Gladden discuss hormone replacement and HGH and when it is appropriate treatment. Special Guest: In 1997, Dr. Jeffry Life was a board-certified family practice physician who was 59 years old, overweight, poorly conditioned body and in rapidly declining health. He couldn’t tie his shoes without losing his breath. His stomach was huge, his muscles and joints ached, and he was miserable. He decided it was time to focus some much-needed medical attention on himself. Not knowing where to start, he began reading fitness magazines and came across an article that featured the winners of the Body-for-LIFE contest. He followed a low-glycemic/low-fat diet, took supplements, and plunged into a heavy exercise regimen with help from a former Navy Seal personal trainer, Ernie Baul. At the end of 1998, at 60 years of age and after consistently eating right and training right, he became the GRAND CHAMPION in Bill Phillip’s 1998 Body-for-LIFE contest. He continued his commitment to the Fitness Lifestyle, yet despite my hard work and dedication, he started losing ground as he edged toward 63. He was slowly losing muscle mass, and strength and was regaining body fat. His energy level was waning, as was his libido. He had heard about the Anti-Aging Medicine Movement, so he investigated further. He learned a whole new level of protocols and philosophies and immediately agreed to become a patient. Within a couple weeks, Life started to see and feel a marked shift in his body, mind and spirit. He was once again becoming a vibrant, healthy and happy man. It was life-altering and became the catalyst that moved him from Family Medicine to healthy aging medicine. He wanted every man and woman that struggled as he had to have hope for a better life. Today, at 78 years of age, he is in the best shape of his life. He’s in the gym 5 days a week. He has a thriving practice in Charleston, West Virginia (The Life Center for Healthy Aging), and he has authored three books: The Life Plan, Mastering the Life Plan and The Life Plan Diet. We welcome back Dr. Bill Andrews of Sierra Sciences to further expand on research into telomeres and telomerase for extending lifespan. Dr. Andrews explains how the existing research shows that there are potential telomere lengtheners, but they are still losing the tug-of-war with telomere shortening. He talks about how lack of funding may be the primary obstacle for telomere breakthroughs. Dr. Andrews also explains the actual link between telomerase and cancer, which is often misunderstood. They also consider the implications of gene therapy and gene editing in terms of producing telomerase. The main cause of telomere shortening is a lack of telomerase, though some things accelerate the process, like oxidative stress and inflammation. The doctors list a number of things people can do to reduce oxidative stress, including lifestyle changes and supplements that can help. Learn more about products by defytime® here. Ask yourself: How serious am I about altering my lifestyle to protect my telomere lengths, and how much of my life, thought process and financial resources should I devote to this?  Special Guest: Dr. Bill Andrews is the President and CEO of Sierra Sciences. As a scientist, athlete and executive, he continually pushes the envelope and challenges convention. He has been featured in Popular Science, The Today Show and numerous documentaries on the topic of life extension, including, most recently, the movie The Immortalists in which he co-stars with Aubrey de Grey. Since 1981, Bill Andrews has focused on finding ways to extend the human lifespan and healthspan through telomere maintenance. As one of the principal discoverers of both the RNA and protein components of human telomerase, Dr. Andrews was awarded 2nd place as "National Inventor of the Year" in 1997. He earned his Ph.D. in Molecular and Population Genetics at the University of Georgia in 1981. Put simply, longer telomeres are always good, and the shortening of them is always associated with disease and cell death.  Dr. Andrews mentions the book, The Telomere Effect by Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn and Dr. Elissa Epel, regarding slowing the shortening of telomeres. They discuss the research into telomerase activators and the hope for working toward lengthening telomeres. He discusses TAM-818 and TA-65® as means to reduce the rate of telomere shortening and offers up his top three suggestions on what people can do to extend their lives. He has served as Senior Scientist at Armos Corporation and Codon Corporation, Director of Molecular Biology at Berlex Biosciences and at Geron Corporation, and Director of Technology Development at EOS Biosciences. He is also a named inventor on over 50+ US issued patents on telomerase and author of numerous scientific research studies published in peer reviewed scientific journals.  Bill is also an avid ultra-marathon runner. Born December 10, 1951, he regularly competes in 100k and 100+ mile runs often finishing at the top of his age group. These grueling races have taken him all over the world to race in some of the most extreme environments, from Death Valley to the Himalayas. His running is presently featured in the movie The High. You can order his books Bill Andrews on Telomere Basics: Curing Aging and Telomere Lengthening: Curing All Disease Including Aging and Cancer now.
