Imagine: linens, towels, pillowcases from spotless hotels, thrown away because a small stain or change of collection makes them obsolete in the eyes of the industry. What if all this could be reused, repurposed and have a positive impact on our environment? This is exactly the approach that Anne-Claire Lapie has taken up with Yuna, a young innovative company that recycles hotel linen to give it a second life and reduce the ecological impact of the textile sector. In this episode of On The Way, Anne-Claire tells us about her journey, from strategic thinking to entrepreneurial action, guided by a progressive ecological awakening and a desire to take action. After several years in agri-food consulting and an awareness of the environmental issues that surround us, she decided to embark on the circular economy by reinventing the bed linen industry. An ambitious project, at the crossroads between hospitality, upcycling, and sustainable textiles. This episode is a real invitation to rethink our consumption habits, to discover the circular economy and to understand how a simple sheet can have a considerable impact. Children embody the future, our future. We can also sometimes hear that it is they who will save the world and catch up with the excesses of previous generations. It is true that today, children are growing up with a certain sensitivity to ecology and climate issues, thanks to education at home, and at school. Jean-Thierry Winstel, founder of Bioviva Editions knows this: learning while having fun is essential, especially for children, but not only!Fascinated by nature and the living world, Jean-Thierry studied biochemistry before leaving to work on the creation of nature reserves in the Caribbean. It was after one too many stories that he made his decision: he had to create a fun, educational fame for both children and adults, to raise awareness of the world around us and the importance of protecting it.This vision led to the creation of Bioviva Editions, a company dedicated to raising awareness by combining fun, learning and environmental protection using the 3As method: Apprendre (Learn), s'Approprier (Adopt) and Agir (Act). In the years following its creation, the company won numerous Game of The Year awards in France and abroad, testifying both to the quality and effectiveness of Bioviva games. In this episode, Jean-Thierry Winstel looks back at the challenges he had to overcome to make Bioviva a key player in made-in-France games, ones that benefit oneself, others, and the planet. Bioviva comes full circle by innovating not only in its packaging, but also in its business model through its latest game: Défis Nature Protect. Based on the rarity of endangered species, this game enables players, via the Bioviva Foundation, to support protection and awareness-raising programs for 10 endangered species features in the game. Discover the exciting journey of Bioviva Editions through the eyes of its founder, Jean-Thierry Winstel, speaking to On The Way. Listen to the episode today on all listening platforms, as well as on the BNP Paribas Personal Finance website. The story of the Fountain of Youth is as old as history itself. Herodotus, the father of ancient Greek history, wrote of a mythical spring that extended the life of its bathers. Today, biotech entrepreneurs, scientists, and health influencers are still searching for that mythical spring. Longevity and anti-aging research has recently blossomed, with a number of tantalizing discoveries. Still, this research hasn't delivered any magic bullets. Yet, that hasn't stopped a cottage industry of folks hawking a plethora of dubious supplements and bizarre health regimens. Jay Cockburn tries to make sense of what's real, what's hype, who could benefit, and who would pay. Do we even want to live in the world the longevity researchers are looking for? Should we keep looking for that fountain? Liz Parrish is one of the bravest and most controversial figures in the exploding field of Longevity. She is not a scientist but may have more impact on geroscience than those who are. Liz is called ”Patient Zero” because she has used herself as a guinea pig for gene therapy to reverse aging and live better with her Type 1 Diabetes. The unapproved FDA procedure required Parrish to go to Colombia and other countries for treatment. The Result… look at her picture. Her biological age dropped five years every year after her treatments, done in 2015 and in 2020. She is biologically 25, chronologically in her forties, and started with a 66-year-old biomarker profile when suffering from Type I diabetes. She is an innovator, and an investor and promotor of Gene therapy for Longevity. Her company, BioViva, asserts that governments, including the US, must look at gene therapies to have a shot at healthy Longevity. Some say she is a profit of the future, and some that she is exposing people to undo risk. But Liz is now helping those interested in gene therapy by taking them off-shore for medical tourism to get procedures unavailable in many first-world nations, including the US.

According to this episode's guest: Liz Parrish, people should be demanding access to the latest gene therapy treatments.   According to Liz, effective gene therapy that treats and heals a plethora of diseases could be in place today if not for the human race's mistakes in prioritizing our funds. Trillions of dollars have been invested in war machines, for example, when we could have used that money to advance humanity into a healthier, more productive, and enjoyable way of life.  As you can see, Liz thinks big - but she's not only a dreamer - Liz is a doer.  As the Founder and CEO of BioViva, Liz devotes her life to pursuing scientific advancements that extend healthy lifespans in humans using cell technologies.  Liz will tell you that aging is a disease caused by cell damage over time. Her company uses BioInformatics to gain knowledge through collecting, storing, and analyzing data from clinical studies. Liz advocates for overhauling the U.S. medical system so that drugs proven successful in animal trials can be offered more rapidly to human patients. Our aging population needs urgent healthcare.  As a passionate science evangelist, Liz is a popular speaking guest. She serves as a motivational speaker in the life sciences field and is a strong proponent of advancing regenerative medicine modalities. She enjoys educating laypeople about the promising field of gene therapy and is actively involved in international educational media outreach. Tune in and meet this humanitarian, entrepreneur, innovator, podcaster, and a leading voice for genetic cures.      In this podcast, we cover:  Liz's story on how she ended up in the bioinformatics and gene therapy business How our current healthcare system slows down anti-aging solutions What gene therapy is and how it can benefit you Why gene therapy isn't affordable or available for most people today How BioViva is giving people at all income levels access to gene therapy How risk aversion is killing us The age Liz thinks she will reach How the media harms scientific progress And more   “I went looking for cures for kids and ended up at a conference.” Two seminal moments occurred in Liz's life back in 2011 and 2013.   Only ten years ago, Liz was a layperson, not working in the longevity and gene therapy field. Her destiny began to change when she volunteered in 2011 for a stem cell project that aimed to educate the world on the regenerative capacity of stem cells. This sparked an obsession with stem cells - what makes them different? Liz began researching and discovered their differences, which she shares.  Then, in 2013, her son was diagnosed with type one diabetes. One day, while in the hospital with her son, Liz asked the doctors about the fabulous research she had been studying on stem cells. Was any of this available for her son? NO. The hospital bluntly told her that stem cell therapy was “experimental medicine.” They made it sound dirty.  The doctors even had the nerve to tell her, “Your son has a treatable disease. Kids dying here. Maybe you should consider yourself lucky?”  This rude attack did NOT sit well with Liz. She pondered, “Why does this technology not translate to humans?”  So, Liz searched for pediatric cures and ended up at a conference that introduced her to the promising future of gene therapy.  The rest, as they say, is history.    Liz practices what she preaches  Back in 2015, when she launched BioViva, Liz proved she doesn't just talk the talk. She walks the walk. How? By becoming “patient zero” in her own experiment.  She willingly injected herself with two gene therapies. Since then, her results look promising. She tells Wade, “I took two gene therapies, and my biomarkers are great. We have a biostatistician working on those now, and we'll be releasing those with a short synopsis.” “My telomeres slowly keep getting longer. My triglyceride levels are low. My blood glucose levels are low - this is something that we see in medical tourism as well...Telomeres are not a perfect aging clock, but they are an indicator of a disease state. Having a better length on your telomere is a good thing. So that should mean better overall health.” Keep your eye on Liz - she's a walking gene therapy experiment, as well as a bold individual willing to offer her body to the furthering of scientific advancement.  Science geeks will enjoy this episode with Liz Parrish. As an entrepreneur, she fosters scientific advancement in gene therapy by employing scientists, raising funds for research, and using her leadership and marketing skills to spread the word on the fascinating works happening inside the labs at BioViva.  Check out this episode - you may end up living longer than you currently think possible.     Episode Resources: Check out more about Liz Parrish & BioViva  BioViva Science on YouTube Liz Parrish on Instagram Liz Parrish on Twitter BioViva Sciences on Facebook

Curious about science's latest effort to reverse aging? This podcast describes attainable treatments and the science behind theses gene therapy processes: Elizabeth Parrish discusses BioViva's anti-aging gene therapy products and research. Even better, she brings a different perspective—she has had viral vector gene therapy herself. Listen and learn The specifics behind four of their gene therapies, including how they work and what they accomplish; The process for getting gene therapy, from medications taken beforehand to what happens at the clinic; and The scientific explanation of the viral vector delivery method and how the therapy lengthens telomeres in our cells. Elizabeth Parrish is a returning guest and CEO of BioViva, a leader in health regenerative gene therapy. She takes listeners on a tour of anti-aging science, offering interesting and intelligent descriptions of available therapies and exciting future treatments in the works. She begins by describing four specific therapies BioViva offers through Integrated Health Systems: telomerase gene-inducement, myostatin inhibitors, mitochondrial improvement, and klotho gene therapy. Respectively, these address anti-aging, muscle growth, energy production, and organ systems and dementia issues. The process for how they accomplish these therapies is better than science fiction. Essentially, they use a viral vector that has had its pathogenesis removed. They fill this vector with the gene therapy and a promotor, which regulates the amount of gene delivered. These therapies are introduced into the body through various ways, but most frequently through an IV drip. She adds that clients will need to take an immune suppressant before and after this therapy, though usually it is on the milder side and tends to be prednisone or something similar. What really makes this interview interesting is Elizabeth's ability to explain how the biology behind this therapy works, why telomere length makes a difference, and how this turns on health-inducing genes without actually changing a person's DNA. In other words, it's not genetic engineering for extending life spans, it's gene therapy for enhancing and strengthening what the body already has. I realized that in medicine…we essentially treat symptoms; we have a sick-care system instead of a healthcare system,” says Elizabeth Parrish, CEO of BioViva. It was her son's diagnosis and experience receiving treatment for type 1 diabetes that compelled her to learn more about childhood diseases, risks, prevention, experimental medicine, and stem cell regenerative medicine. She explains how effective cell type technologies and regenerative medicine can be at curing a multitude of childhood diseases while at the same time targeting one of the greatest unmet needs: treatment for diseases of biological aging, including cancer, heart disease, organ failure, and Alzheimer's.    Among the regenerative therapies being explored is polymerase induction, which causes telomere extension for combating diseases of aging while at the same time treating progeria, a childhood disease known to cause “accelerated aging.” Parrish discusses the details of all this and more, including the foundation of BioViva in 2015, her personal experience undergoing two gene therapies, and the global impact that this technology could have on the world.    Learn more about the BioViva mission by visiting https://bioviva-science.com/.

“The first thing to do is to break down those basic myths of… ‘At some point I will be happy to die'…It's not in line with an organism's survival to think that way, so we project it off into the future, and that's how we create this illusion of strength and being satisfied with that…what I would rather be satisfied with is…people testing technologies and deciding to take a risk today to make the world a better place tomorrow,” says Elizabeth Parrish, and testing technologies and taking risks today for the possibility of a better tomorrow is exactly what Parrish does in her role as CEO of BioViva Science.   At BioViva, the mission is to utilize gene therapy as a new tool in regenerative medicine, with the ultimate goal of genetically modifying humans to live healthier, stronger, and longer lives. She explains the process and hallmarks of ageing, how gene therapy functions as a valuable new tool in regenerative medicine by upregulating a human gene that makes cells function and look like young cells, the type of bioinformatic work they're doing on a daily basis to make these things a reality, the use of telomerase inducers and myostatin inhibitors, and the difficulties and technicalities of developing these biotechnologies.     Learn more at https://bioviva-science.com/.

For the same amount of protein compared to beef, crickets require 12x less feed, 2,000x less water, thousands of times less land, and they emit 100x less greenhouse gases. S3: #030: Liz Parrish on Developing New Therapies to Slow and Reverse the Effects of Aging

Today we’re going to talk about aging. It’s a condition that everyone experiences and indeed, one thing is certain: when it comes to aging, our condition is terminal.  Our guest today is challenging that and fighting aging head on. Today we’re speaking with Liz Parrish, the CEO of BioViva,a biotech company dedicated to advancing gene and cell therapies to treat the diseases of aging. We’ll dive into her work and learn about the results of the treatment that she received to slow and maybe even reverse the effects of aging. Liz is a passionate advocate for patient access to these revolutionary treatments, and a couple years ago, Liz decided to take her own medicine - literally. In September 2015, Liz underwent genetic therapy with the aim of slowing and even reversing the effects of aging. She believes that aging should be classified as a disease to open up entirely new and untapped pathways to extend human lives and allow us to be healthier, longer. Gene therapy to treat aging as a disease. Is this something that will catch on? Should we be tinkering with our own genes in this way? If not, why not? We’re already extending the lives of animals from earthworms to mice - why shouldn’t we work to extend our own lives through applying this technology? But if we do that, will these treatments only be available to the elite and wealthy of our society, or is this something that can benefit all of society by making it available to anyone who wants it? Our guest today is Liz Parrish, founder and CEO of BioViva Science USA, a company committed to extending healthy life spans using gene therapy. Liz shares the advances BioViva has made in gene therapy research, as well as her own experience undergoing one of their pioneering therapies, which may make her the first human GMO. Liz Parrish of BioViva wants to genetically engineer you. Telomere Attrition and the Disease of Biological Aging Liz is a humanitarian who was initially drawn to reversal of aging research through her interest in curing childhood disease. Telomeres are the caps at the end of each strand of DNA that protect our chromosomes, and the shortening of those telomeres begins from the moment we are born. This telomere attrition is responsible for biological aging, which underlies almost every disease. Liz and her team at BioViva want to not only extend people's life expectancy, but to allow people to live to be 120 or older in a youthful and capable way by tackling biological aging as a disease in and of itself. Part of what makes this research so exciting is the fact that extending healthy life spans has broad-reaching humanitarian implications. If we become a healthier and longer-lived population, that increases our humanitarian outreach, how we cultivate land and how we see the future. In short, we make better choices. Overcoming the Negative Reputation of GMOs GMO has developed a bad reputation due to its use in food products. But treating humans as GMOs is a different story. For example, no one would malign children who undergo gene therapy for muscular dystrophy. When looking at a new medical science, it's important to keep in mind that all modern medicine was considered heresy at some point. Liz wants to stress that gene therapy isn't scary, but rather an eloquent and beautiful science — disease mitigation at its best. The injection of genes directly into your cells is a cleaner, better process for your body without the negative side effects that come with taking pharmaceuticals. We see the most benefit when we tackle biological aging as opposed to spending billions of dollars on trying to cure individual diseases. The key is for the NIH to recognize biological aging as a disease in and of itself, which will open up funding and resources for researchers. When you get older, you don't look in the mirror for as long.” – Liz Parrish of BioViva. What Comes Next…And What Do We Do While We Wait? The next step is for BioViva is to run a clinical trial against a disease – Alzheimer's is the best candidate — in order to ensure the therapy is safe and eventually make it available to the public. In the meantime, Liz reaffirms that the best way for individuals to increase life span is through moderate exercise every day, a healthy diet and avoiding the consumption of excessive sugar.
