What has happened to Jesus' mission? We live in an age when many do not know Jesus, nor do they wish to know him.Indeed, according to the last census in 2021, around 40 per cent of all Australians indicated that they had “no religion”.But after Jesus was resurrected, John reports in his Gospel that Jesus appeared to his disciples in a locked room and said to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”The mission of Jesus is not done yet. Furthermore, we all have a part to play in it.In this episode of the Moore College podcast, in a chapel service held on Friday 16 August 2024, Kanishka Raffel, Archbishop of the Sydney Anglican Diocese, speaks about Jesus' mission—our mission—from John chapter 20 verses 19-23.He outlines the work of Jesus' mission that has been handed down to us and outlines four unique and universal gifts that Jesus has provided us to help us in this work. For more audio resources or to make a donation to support the work of Moore College, visit the Moore College website.

When I heard that two legends of firefighting training Shan Raffel and CFBT Roy will be visiting my friend Szymon Kokot, I packed my stuff and went to meet them with a microphone and a ton of questions. What I received was a brilliant discussion on how firefighting instructors are trained - from the history of CFBT (Compartment Fire Behaviour Training) to modern approaches. Shan introduced his method for reading fire (BE SAHF - Building Environment Smoke Air-track Heat and Flame) and how it helps the decision-making process in the most stressful settings. Along the way, we discuss the critical soft character traits that make a fire instructor exceptional, and how the art of decision-making and critical thinking can be integrated into the complex realm of fire science. As we wrap up, we emphasize the significant role of understanding fire behavior in handling emergency situations. We will also broach the topic of cold, gray smoke, a seemingly harmless phenomenon but one that poses a formidable danger. Learn why experienced instructors are key to imparting this knowledge and how Poland, under Szymon's leadership, has made significant strides in fire instruction. Also, if you would like to read more, here is the most amazing collection of resources you can find online: https://eurofirefighter.com/downloadsShan's book can be found at https://cfbt-int.com/manuals/ or at Amazon, or perhaps you may want to find the CFBT people in your country to make a worthy connection?! Through his website, you can also connect to organize instructor training in your country.Cover picture credit: CFBT Intl https://cfbt-int.com/Fire Science Show is sponsored by OFR Consultants, huge shoutout for their long-lasting support to our mission!
Ghislaine Comeau is a PhD student in the English department at Concordia University. Her SSHRC funded doctoral project, inspired by the recent Global Middle Ages movement, focuses on re-examining texts from the early medieval period to further investigate direct references and allusions to “Saracens.” In addition to her more “traditional” approaches to scholarly work, she has recently discovered that she has a great appreciation for and desire to consume and produce research-creation projects that can serve a wider audience – popular or pedagogical.Works Cited / Featured Audio Creed, Robert Payson. “The Ruin (Modern English).” YouTube, uploaded by YouTube and provided by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, 30 May 2015. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CSWnfuyzyM .Cronan, Dennis. “Cædmon's Audience.” Studies in Philology, vol. 109, no. 4, 2012, p 336.

Sydney's Archbishop Kanishka Raffel has responded to Gafcon's Kigali Commitment which says the Archbishop of Canterbur Justin Welby's continued leadership of the Anglican Communion is entirely indefensible.Leaders representing 85% of the Anglican Communion say they have no confidence in the Archbishop of Canterbury or the other instruments of the Anglican Communion. In his first interview, since the release of Gafcon's Kigali Communique, Archbishop Raffel sits down with Dominic Steele while on a tour of Anglican Aid projects in rural Tanzania (see http://www.anglicanaid.org.au). Archbishop Raffel was named new Vice Chair of Gafcon at the meeting in Rwanda in April. Responding to the criticism of the Archbishop of Canterbury, in the Kigali Commitment, Archbishop Raffel said if 85% of membership rejected my leadership, I'd resign. #gafcon23 #gafcon #anglican #tanzania #anglicanaid #cmsSupport the show--To make a one off contribution to support The Pastor's Heart's ministry go to this link, or to become a regular Patreon supporter click here.

Upon return, he shaped the first nationally recognized training program in Australia and has since assisted numerous fire services in Australia and internationally with the development of their training facilities and teaching materials. In 2009, Raffel was awarded a Churchill Fellowship. He is focused on exploring ways of improving efficiency and safety as to firefighting. During 30-year career in the fire service, he has conducted international study tours in the USA (FDNY), Canada, Germany, Austria, Scandinavia and Switzerland. He still teaches his knowledge and experience as a CFBT and Fire Behaviour instructor in various countries including South Korea, Croatia, Thailand, Begium. Author Dawn Raffel rejoins the show to celebrate her wonderful new book, Boundless As The Sky (Sagging Meniscus Press), a gorgeous series of stories & a novella that take us from Invisible Cities to the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. We talk about how Dawn's previous nonfiction book, The Strange Case of Dr. Couney, led into this new book, how she became obsessed with the Century of Progress World's Fair (and how she wishes she could have asked her parents about visiting it in their youth), why Chicago was always her Emerald City, and how NYC has transformed over the decades she's lived here. We also get into the strong influence of Invisible Cities on her book and how she felt about writing a feminine/feminist response to Calvino, how the two parts of Boundless As The Sky — stories, novella — talk to each other, the twin writing-joys of unexpected resonances and sentence-building, and how incorporating Yoga Nidra offers new approaches to writing workshops. We also get into her recent trip to Kenya for International Literary Seminars, her pandemic Zoom writing-accountability partners, how she finally got around to reading Moby-Dick (and what she made of it), and a lot more.
A century ago you could see many bizarre sideshows on the boardwalk at Coney Island. But one of these was not an act, but a system that saved thousands of premature babies.
Noah's shark, Sharks of the corn, The Tingler, Food of the gods part 2 och mycket annan smörja.
Mycket nöje och all makt åt Tengil!

‘A perilous moment.' - That's how the Archbishop of Sydney Kanishka Raffel described the situation that the Anglican Church of Australia is in - after an important vote failed to win support of the nation's bishops at the denomination's National Synod. After being delayed twice due to COVID, the leaders of the Australian Anglican Church gathered for the first time since the marriage plebiscite. There were two statements and three motions to be debated that would have given the church clarity going forward. But whereas it was clear that there was 60% support for orthodox teaching in the Synod, the critical motion was blocked by the House of Bishops. The synod voted by houses - laity, clergy and bishops. In the laity the numbers were 63 to 47 in favourIn the clergy the numbers were 70 to 39 in favour In the house of bishops it was lost by 10 in support to 12 votes against, with two abstentions. Today on The Pastor's Heart we are speaking first to the Archbishop of Sydney Kanishka Raffel and then to the the Gafcon Australia Bishop RIchard Condie of Tasmania and Rev Jennifer Hercott from Queensland. Advertisment:At Village Church Annandale in the inner west of Sydney we are looking for a full time assistant minister to join our team to work in the area of maturity and ministry.Details are at http://villagechurch.sydney/assistant Support the show
Future mission in Sydney and the National Anglican Church in Australia faces a few challenges which Sydney Anglican Archbishop Kanishka Raffel spells out in this episode. We speak on some of the issues Archbishop Raffel might have brought forward in his first Presidential address, had the 'Synod in the Greenfields' not been postponed due to the Omicron outbreak, as it was scheduled for this Saturday 26 February 2022.Not only this, Archbishop Raffel speaks frankly about the Greenfields challenge, indigenous issues, multiculturalism, the national church and the current religious freedom debate.

The author, Marie-Henri Beyle, is better known by his pen name “Stendhal.” He was born in 1783 in the city of Grenoble in southeastern France. His mother passed away before he turned eight. After his mother's death, his upbringing was severe. It caused him to develop a gloomy personality. He grew to resent his lawyer father and his strict tutor, a Jesuit-priest. Fortunately, his salvation was his grandfather, who was kind and loving towards him. He read voraciously in his grandfather's library. Stendhal went to Paris In 1799, after Napoléon Bonaparte launched the Coup of 18 Brumaire. In Paris, under his cousin's recommendation, he first joined the army and subsequently worked at the administrative court. He also took part in the Napoleonic wars as the Emperor's messenger. After Napoléon's abdication in 1814, Stendhal lost his job and fell into significant debt. He quit France for Italy and began eking out his living as a writer. In this period, he produced a wide range of works, including essays, short stories, novels, novella, non-fiction, and travel books. He conceived The Red and the Black, his magnum opus, in 1829. When the novel was eventually published the following year, it was received with indifference by the literary world. Of the first edition, only 750 copies were printed, and sales were sluggish. Nonetheless, Stendhal had profound confidence in his work. He once predicted that it would be 1880 before people would start to read and accept the novel and 1935 before the public would acknowledge its significance. True to his words, The Red and the Black received acclaim only half a century after its original imprint. Émile Zola, the French realist writer, referred to Stendhal as “one of our masters.” Leo Tolstoy, the eminent Russian author, praised Stendhal's techniques of psychological description. André Gide, the Nobel laureate, described The Red and the Black as ahead of its time. He commented that it was a novel for twentieth-century readers. Although he was largely overlooked during his lifetime, thanks to The Red and the Black, Stendhal has subsequently become a renowned literary figure. Over the two centuries since its publication, the novel has been globally ranked among many readers' favorite works, especially so among younger readers.

Before turning to writing full-time, Keith had a somewhat eclectic career. He founded a successful Internet software company, served as counsel to the Senate Intelligence Committee, taught writing at Harvard, ran for Congress, supported himself gambling at the racetrack, and ran commercial operations at a DNA sequencing company. Most mornings and afternoons nowadays, he can be found drinking caffeinated beverages and tapping his laptop's keys at a café near his home in Palo Alto, California. The most liberating truth of the Christian life is that our sins have been forgiven. But one of the most difficult challenges of the Christian life is forgiving others as we have been forgiven. Does forgiving mean forgetting? If we forgive, must we still trust? At our August 2021 CCL event, Kanishka Raffel, Anglican Archbishop of Sydney, and Philip Kern, Head of New Testament at Moore College, lead us through what the Bible teaches about forgiveness and how we might in wisdom learn to forgive those who have sinned against us.
Dawn Raffel's book: The Strange Case of Dr. Couney was chosen as one of NPR's best books of 2018 and awarded a 2019 Christopher Award for books that affirm the highest values of the human spirit. As Dawn Raffel recounts, Dr. Couney used incubators and careful nursing to keep previously doomed infants alive, while displaying these babies alongside sword swallowers, bearded ladies, and burlesque shows at Coney Island, Atlantic City, and venues across the nation. How this turn-of-the-twentieth-century émigré became the savior to families with premature infants—known then as “weaklings”—as he ignored the scorn of the medical establishment and fought the rising popularity of eugenics is one of the most astounding stories of modern medicine. Dr. Couney, for all his entrepreneurial gusto, is a surprisingly appealing character, someone who genuinely cared for the well-being of his tiny patients.----As always, feel free to send us questions, comments or suggestions to our email: nicupodcast@gmail.com. In marriage mediation I work with couples whose relationships have hit a crisis point. They have decided to try and reconcile and want to ensure there is space to allow this to happen. In this book, Lee Raffel guides readers through thoughts and processes to enable parties to decide if they should stay and work on reconciliation or not. If they do decide to stay, Raffel has ideas about what that controlled separation should look like practically. This may seem like an unusual choice for a family mediator. However, I have worked with people who are trying to create the space and time to enable their reconciliation to work. We look at the practical arrangements: physical separation financial arrangements - how will the bills get paid? children's arrangements - how will the children spend time with each parent? what do we tell children? how long do we give ourselves? what commitment will we each make to counselling? and more If this seems like the situation you are in then I would recommend reading this book to get some ideas about how to move forward.

Kanishka Raffel is the new Archbishop of the Anglican diocese of Sydney. He will be the first person from a non-European background to hold the position.
These days it's not uncommon for a baby to survive after being born 15 weeks premature. We can partially thank incubators for that. They didn't always exist, of course, and Dr. Couney was one of the first advocates, but not for the reason you might think.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
