Time Team's Francis Pryor discovered Flag Fen, a Bronze Age site of world importance, in 1982. The remarkable preservation of a wooden causeway, over a kilometre long, along with ancient roundhouses, gave us unique insight into how people lived thousands of years ago. Now, decades after Francis' discovery, Flag Fen is under threat and the archaeology is at risk of being lost forever. Time Team takes Francis back to find out what can be done to save this hugely important site. Archaeologist Dr Helen Geake and co-host Martyn Williams speak to self-proclaimed 'word nerd' Rob Watts from the etymology YouTube channel RobWords. He explains how studing language can reveal secrets about our past which could shed more light on archaeological discoveries. Dani Wootton brings you archaeology stories from around the world in Time Team News and Helen will answer more questions from Patreon supporters. Join our community on Patreon to get even more from Time Team, including an extended version of our interview with RobWords. Head to patreon.com/timeteamofficial to find out more.

3CR would like to acknowledge the Kulin Nations – true owners, caretakers and custodians of the land from which we broadcast. 3CR pays respect to Elders, past and present of the Kulin Nation. We recognise their unceded sovereignty.// News headlines// We hear some speeches from the Accessible Tram Stops for ALL rally held on 17th June to launch the campaign to win accessible tramstops on Sydney Road, before proposed rail upgrades remove 8 level crossings in Brunswick. First up, we'll hear Monica Harte (Merri-Bek Councillor), who spoke about the history of transport campaigns in so-called Melbourne from 1980 (including Upfield line closures) and honoured disability activists no longer with us today. We will also hear Elyse Cunningham from the FOE Sustainable Cities Campaign, who shared campaign information and the importance of putting pressure on government since “only 15% of tram network is accessible to wheelchair users.” Crossing removal is planned to for around 2 years time, resulting in closures to the Upfield line and adjoining bike path for around 18 months, leaving older people, people with disability, and many other community members with no access to the city of Merri-Bek, likely to lose work, and become further isolated from society. Currently there are no accessible tram stops between Park Street (Brunswick) and Bakers Road (North Coburg, end-of-the-line) on the Route 19 tram. Approx 200-300 people attended the rally, including music from the the Riffraff Radical Marching Band, stopping traffic and trams at the corner of Brunswick Town Hall.// Angelica Ojinnaka is a youth development advocate, researcher, and speaker. Munitions, equipment losses, sanctions, isolation - Vladimir Putin's decision to invade has come with a rapidly increasing price tag. Just the cost of prosecuting the war is proving astronomical, as Edward Arnold of military think tank RUSI tells Ed Butler. Then there's the economic blowback - the freezing of the central bank's reserves, the exclusion from international finance, the boycotting by key international companies. Over the coming months, Russian industry could grind to a halt, while citizens could face food shortages, according to economist Maxim Mironov of IE Business School. Take the example of aviation - soon half the planes in Russia could be grounded for lack of spare parts, says consultant Rob Watts of ACC Aviation. But will this be enough to convince Putin and the political elite around him to pull out of Ukraine? The Ukrainian political scientist Olga Chyzh says don't hold your breath. On our first episode of Policy Forum Pod for 2022, we're joined by Faith Gordon and Rob Watts to talk about lowering Australia's voting age to 16 years old, the rights of children and young people, and the future of Australian democracy. The election day tradition in Australia is one most Australians are familiar with. You go to your polling place on a Saturday, stand in line, and get your ‘democracy sausage' on the way out. But not everybody actually gets to vote. The voting age in Australia is currently 18 years, but the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Government is currently considering a bill that would lower the voting age to 16, at least for the territory election. To kick-off 2022, Associate Professor Faith Gordon from The Australian National University (ANU) and Professor Rob Watts from RMIT University join Professor Sharon Bessell and Dr Arnagretta Hunter to discuss this proposal on Policy Forum Pod.Faith Gordon is an Associate Professor in Law at ANU College of Law at The Australian National University. Faith has international expertise and research experience in youth justice, media representations, children's rights, criminal law, digital technologies, and media regulation.Rob Watts is Professor of Social Policy at RMIT University. Rob teaches policy studies, politics, the history of ideas, and applied human rights and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences.Sharon Bessell is Professor of Public Policy and Director of Gender Equity and Diversity at Crawford School of Public Policy at ANU.Arnagretta Hunter is a Human Futures Fellow for the ANU College of Health and Medicine, a cardiologist, physician, and a Senior Clinical Lecturer for the ANU Medical School. The full submission to the ACT Government by Judith Bessant, Rob Watts, Faith Gordon, Sharon Bessell and others is available for download. Full show notes are available at Policy Forum. Policy Forum Pod is available on Acast, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Subscribe on Android or wherever you get your podcasts.
