Chuck Todd welcomes Congressman Ritchie Torres for a wide-ranging conversation that begins with a tour of New York's 15th district and the unique challenges of representing one of America's most diverse urban areas. Torres offers candid insights on governance, highlighting how term limits disadvantage legislators compared to lobbyists. The conversation shifts to the current political landscape, with Torres expressing deep concerns about President Trump's approach to his second term, arguing that Trump is "poisoning the well" for bipartisanship despite Biden's successful record of cross-party legislation. Torres delivers a stark warning that America is "planting the seed of its own decline" and characterizes the consequences of proposed GOP Medicaid cuts as "barbaric," particularly in light of the brewing long-term care crisis. They weigh the merits of pragmatism versus idealism in American foreign policy and scrutinize Qatar's growing financial influence in American politics. Torres argues that "Republicans would impeach Joe Biden if he had accepted a plane" while addressing whether Democrats should adopt Trump's aggressive approach to wielding power. Torres acknowledges that Democrats "should have spoken out sooner about Biden's decline" and offers his vision for how the party can project strength moving forward. They conclude with Torres addressing his political future—including speculation about mayoral and gubernatorial ambitions—before outlining his solutions for New York's housing crisis, crime concerns, and utility costs. This week, Shawn Wilkie and Dr. Ivan Zak chat with Maria Morgan, co-founder of Passpaw, about how veterinary teams can turn international pet travel documentation from a time-consuming task into an efficient, team-led, and profitable service. As more clients travel with their pets post-pandemic, many practices either avoid these certificates entirely or undercharge for the work involved. Maria shares how her workflow management software aims to eliminate the administrative burden of health certificates and enhance team member utilization, freeing veterinarians to focus on patient care. Learn how practices can turn a traditionally frustrating service into a team-led revenue stream that improves client experience and practice profitability: Passpaw. Maria Morgan recommends Freakonomics podcast - "Should America be Run by Trader Joe's (Update)" and Adam Grant's TED talk - "How to stop languishing and start finding flow".
Why is the U.S. Still Spending Billions Overseas While Our Roads Crumble at Home? That's the question millions of Americans are asking—especially when they see headlines about war, foreign aid, and billions being shipped out of the country while their hometowns suffer. But what if there's more to the story? What if our foreign policy decisions are actually shaping the fate of America's economy, safety, and even your daily cost of living? This episode of The Brian Nichols Show is not just a discussion—it's a full-on debate on America's role in the Middle East, the consequences of interventionism, and what "America First" really means. Studio Sponsor: Cardio Miracle - "Unlock the secret to a healthier heart, increased energy levels, and transform your cardiovascular fitness like never before.": https://www.briannicholsshow.com/heart In today's episode, Brian sits down with Middle East analyst Abdullah Hayek to unpack the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the broader Israel-Palestine situation. Abdullah lays out the geopolitical chessboard, from Iran's “Ring of Fire” to Jordan's diplomatic tightrope walk with the U.S.—and yes, we even talk about Trump's controversial “Gaza Riviera” concept. What's the strategy behind all this, and who really benefits? Is there a master plan, or just chaos wrapped in diplomacy? But Brian doesn't just listen—he pushes back. Hard. From questioning America's fiscal responsibility in foreign entanglements to grilling Abdullah on how to sell ongoing intervention to everyday Americans, this conversation dives deep into the growing gap between D.C. foreign policy elites and voters watching their communities fall apart. The debate gets real as Abdullah makes the case for a Middle East NATO-style alliance—with America at the helm. But Brian hits back with hard numbers, emotional realities, and a libertarian case for a drastically smaller footprint abroad. What happens if voters stop buying the global policing pitch? What happens if “America First” becomes “America Only”? Whether you're Team Isolation or Team Engagement, this episode is an unfiltered, high-stakes conversation about America's future on the world stage—and how it affects your backyard. This isn't just politics. It's personal. Donald Trump's America First policy has reignited a debate that has shaped U.S. history for centuries: Should America lead on the world stage, or should it pull back and focus on problems at home? In this episode, Hillari Lombard sits down with Charles Kupchan—senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, professor at Georgetown, and author of Isolationism: A History of America's Efforts to Shield Itself from the World—to unpack the past, present, and future of American isolationism. This episode is a good-faith attempt to understand what America First really means—not just as a campaign slogan, but as a governing philosophy. Whether you support it, fear it, or are just trying to make sense of it, this is a conversation you won't want to miss.Resources that informed this episode:Isolationism: A History of America's Efforts to Shield Itself From the World | Council on Foreign RelationsSupporting Ukraine Is in Trump's Interest by Michael Froman & Charles A. What if you were born into a world where your faith meant you had to mark your body for safety? What if simply practicing your religion put you in danger? Today, we're diving into a conversation that most people never think about—the hidden struggles of Coptic Christians. These ancient believers, tracing their roots back to St. Mark, have faced relentless persecution for centuries. And now, many of them are seeking refuge in America. But here's the twist—what does this mean for immigration debates in the U.S.? Studio Sponsor: Cardio Miracle - "Unlock the secret to a healthier heart, increased energy levels, and transform your cardiovascular fitness like never before.": https://www.briannicholsshow.com/heart In this eye-opening episode, I sit down with David Mendoza from Young Voices to break down the untold story of Coptic Christians. Why are they forced to tattoo their children for protection? How have they survived under oppressive regimes? And why is the mainstream media silent on their struggles unless there's a tragedy? We're pulling back the curtain on a group of people who are fighting for their faith, their rights, and their very existence. But this conversation doesn't stop at religious persecution. We take a hard look at U.S. immigration policy and how it impacts people escaping real oppression. Are we welcoming those who share our values, or is the system broken beyond repair? Is America still the land of the free, or have we lost our way? These aren't just policy debates—these are life-and-death questions for people trying to build a future. And here's the kicker—what can you do about it? How can we reclaim the idea of community, of self-reliance, of taking care of those who truly need it without letting the welfare state destroy our economy? David and I break down what needs to change, and why libertarians, conservatives, and classical liberals need to rethink their stance on immigration before it's too late. Don't just watch—engage. Drop a comment below with your thoughts on immigration, religious freedom, and the role of government. Should America change how we handle asylum seekers? Should we be prioritizing people who align with our values? Let's get real about what's at stake. Matt Crawford speaks with author H.W Brands about his book, America First: Roosevelt vs. Lindbergh in the Shadow of War. When Hitler invaded Poland in September 1939 he launched a momentous period of decision-making for the United States. Should America step into the fray of a war that we were separated from by an ocean? For popular hero Charles Lindbergh, saying no to another world war only twenty years after the first was the obvious answer. Lindbergh had become famous and adored around the world after his historic first flight over the Atlantic in 1927. In the years since, he had emerged as a vocal critic of American involvement overseas, rallying Americans against foreign war as the leading spokesman the America First Committee. While Hitler advanced across Europe and threatened the British Isles, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt struggled to turn the tide of public opinion. With great effort, political shrewdness and outright deception—aided by secret British disinformation efforts in America—FDR readied the country for war. He pushed the US onto the world stage where it has stayed ever since. In this gripping narrative and style, H.W. Brands sheds light on a crucial tipping point in American history and depicts the making of a legendary president.
You know what they say. War is hell. But this podcast isn't! Well, we don't think so anyway. But if you're a miserable little twat who spends his free time posting nonsensical reviews of movie podcasts on the Apple Podcasts app, you might think it's hell. But even then…chill dawg, it's not that serious. This is fun! We're here to have a good time! Is this movie a good time, though? Should it be? Should it even exist? Should America exist? Our fearless heroines return once again to defend the indefensible. First, they throw their hat in with the chaotic billionaire of Twitter/X, no not Elon Musk (although him too), but terf-queen J.K. In this insightful episode, Mike Winther delves into the intricate topic of war powers and their constitutional roots. He explores the original intentions of the founding fathers as laid out in the Constitution, shedding light on the constitutional aspects of military engagement and policy. The lecture is structured around three core objectives. Firstly, Mike will examine the constitutional framework guiding decisions about going to war. He will then delve into various theories of war, discussing the circumstances under which war is justified and when military action is permissible. Finally, he raises a crucial question: Are our current, or any, American leaders truly fit to make these momentous decisions on our behalf? Join us as we navigate these complex issues with Mike Winther. You'll Learn: [03:17] Article 1 Section 8 of The Constitution lays out the responsibility for declaring war. [04:05] We've had a number of wars that haven't actually been declared as wars. [04:56] Is funding a war and approving it the same thing? [05:32] The founding fathers intended more than just a vote from Congress to fund a war. Congress consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate. [06:10] Before the 17th Amendment, the senators were appointed by the states. The house represented the people, and the founding fathers knew that the people would be paying for the war. [07:11] The founding fathers gave Congress the power to declare war and the president the power to manage the war. [09:13] Mike discusses the difference between engaging and declaring. [10:06] By funding the war and not declaring it, Congress gets plausible deniability. [12:55] War theory and the decision about whether to use force. [13:14] There's a parallel with Biblical standards for violence and force and civil government for violence and force. [19:10] Would it be justifiable for the good samaritan to use violence to help the victim during the attack? Are they required to intervene? [23:19] Ancient Israel had an all volunteer military force up until King Saul. [23:58] Can America as a nation force our fellow citizens to fight a war they don't want to fight? [24:30] Should America be the police force to the world? [25:10] The idea of just war theory comes from scripture. [28:57] Can we trust our leaders with foreign policy decisions? [30:29] The general trend of our government on a federal level has been to promote ideals and policies that most of us would object to. [31:08] If these leaders aren't doing a good job at home, how well would they do on a foreign stage? [38:32] Mike discusses problems with American intervention in foreign governments. [40:27] We need to be able to trust the leadership we have in our government to do the right thing before they start meddling in the governments of other countries. [44:55] We need to recognize the forces who are advocating for big government and centralizing power. We should always be careful about consolidation. Jim Jordan is still trying to rally support for his bid as Speaker of the House after an unsuccessful vote earlier in the week. New Zealand's new government, National Party, is right-leaning, a change after six years of wildly progressive leadership, and Tennessee formulated a bipartisan panel that is evaluating how TN can refuse federal education money. Lastly, Hannah provides plenty of commentary on the situation in the Middle East. Why are so many college students supporting Hamas? Is breaking news beneficial? Should America send financial aid to Israel? And why the 2nd Amendment is as important as ever. https://www.thehannahmillershow.com/podcasts/https://bobslone.com/contact/bob@bobslone.com

Losing US Supremacy to China. Walter Russell Mead. In this Direct interview, John is joined by Walter Russell Mead, an American academic widely regarded for his incisive analysis of geopolitics and foreign affairs. In a wide ranging discussion, Walter and John consider the worrying isolationist streak that seems to be running through US politics, the continuing struggle for global ascendancy between China and the US, the effectiveness of nuclear deterrence in the 2020s, Western cultural decadence, and Israeli democracy. Walter provides his assessment of the ongoing war in Ukraine, where the conflict is headed and what a desperate Putin might do to achieve an unlikely victory. He concludes on a hopeful note, that emerging political leaders in the US seem to have the courage and conviction to guide their country through the challenges that confront them. Walter Russell Mead is the Ravenel B. Curry III Distinguished Fellow in Strategy and Statesmanship at Hudson Institute, the Global View Columnist at The Wall Street Journal and the James Clarke Chace Professor of Foreign Affairs and Humanities at Bard College in New York. If you had to count the ways President Joe Biden is placing America in peril because of feckless foreign policy, there would definitely be double digits involved. China, just this past weekend, has been pushing hard toward Taiwan -- and who knows where Biden will ultimately fall in terms of helping keep democracy in place on the island. The question is: Should America get involved? Already millions, billions, maybe even (one day) trillions of U.S. dollars are being spent to save Ukraine from Russia. Should taxpayers send more away from domestic purposes to save yet another government? Fact is, if Biden weren't so weak, if his administration weren't so feckless, if his White House wasn't so cowardly, then the world's hostile players wouldn't be so emboldened to make their hostile moves in the first place. What America needs is a return to America First policies so that America's liberties would stand strong, and the message of America to the world -- don't mess with freedom! -- would stand similarly strong. Colonel Grant Newsham, author of the new "When China Attacks," discusses.
Chris, Melanie, and Zack discuss several recent articles focused on alliance burden sharing. Should America want Europe to be dependent on it for Europe's defense? Is the leverage the United States obtains over European allies because of their dependence worth the cost? Is it even possible for Europe to have collective defense? Should the American public accept that U.S citizens will have to defend Europe because European governments won't defend themselves? Will the United States inevitably be drawn into intra-European fights? Grievances toward the U.S. mission in Syria, the Biden administration's next Summit of Democracies, and Tik Tok. Attas for Gen. Mark Milley, Israeli citizens protesting a judicial reform proposal that lacks wide popular support, and to a group of Ukrainians who have just completed training in Oklahoma on the Patriot air defense system. Dr. Tony Evans, a Christian minister and author, recently published his new book, “Kingdom Politics: Returning God to Government,” which offers America a biblical solution. Jason considers the true cost of America's reimagining, reshaping, and disruption of the nuclear family. While some may see Evans' answers as a radical solution, the recent Wawa store looting in Philadelphia was a prime example of an already radical society. Critics may respond to Evans' answers with, “What about the separation of church and state?” Our culture and the manipulative Democratic Party are fooling America and the traditional family structure. They have stolen the trust of the people and instilled fear in order to make us rely on our government for solutions that were given long ago. All Republicans aren't necessarily Christians, so their moral and ethical differences may cause them to clash with one another. So why does Evans offer a biblical solution to worldly problems? The answer is simple. “Whoever owns the family owns the future” is how Evans puts it. This statement couldn't be any truer. In today's episode, Jason and “Fearless” contributor Dave Shannon discuss Evans' many answers for America. Should Christians be unaffiliated with Democrats or Republicans? Does justice start inside or outside the womb? Should America incentivize married families? The intent of Evans' book is to inspire believers to think more critically about how they use their votes. This gave Jason much to ponder. It also inspires in him a radical solution: How do we return God to government? We want to hear from the Fearless Army!!
