Episode 4 of The Drop: A Snowfall Saga is titled “The Push,” and there was definitely a lot of pushing happening throughout this episode.During this Side Quest Review, we gave major kudos to Leon (Isiah John) for his performance. The growth and maturity he's brought to the character has been a sight to see. Welcome back to our intermittent spin-off concept Side Quest, where we focus on something other than indie games but like, on purpose. This episode is the second in-person recording from August's Indieventure IRL hang, and it's a double feature as we make the incredibly sensible decision to watch some bad video game movies, and then chat about them while drinking Buzzballz just because none of us had ever tried one before (and no, this episode isn't sponsored). After a brisk round of negotiations, our chosen movies were 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – the first movie which loosely adapted the games, of which there were only five at the time, if you can believe it – and Return to Silent Hill, the continuation of that movie series after more than a decade-long hiatus that finally saw the light of day this year, allegedly adapting beloved series highlight Silent Hill 2. (If you're wondering why we picked these specific two films instead of, I don't know, watching some movies based on indie games… well, there aren't actually all that many indie game movies, but mainly these choices seemed much much funnier and more likely to generate lively Buzzball-fuelled discussion.) Now, neither of these films reviewed particularly well on release, but one came out barely six months ago and the other has had 25 years to really settle into its identity, so will we learn something about the art of making legendary video game movies as we go? Maybe! You'll have to listen to our chat to find out, as indeed will I, because this was a late-night discussion that took place six weeks ago and also those Buzzballz kicked in harder than I was expecting, honestly. Some questions to consider while you listen: Where's the line between a simply bad adaptation and a masterclass in campy silliness? Should Liam and Rebecca be trusted to combine alcohol, microphones, and their latent crushes on early-2000s Angelina Jolie?  Today's conversation is about the debut of Kent Blazy's latest album Tulsa Sessions. What makes Kent Blazy Truly Significant?Kent turned ordinary human feelings into extraordinary songs. Blazy's gift is making universal emotions feel personal. His first collaboration with a then-emerging Garth Brooks, “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” became Brooks' first No. 1 song and was named the NSAI Song of the Year in 1989. Their partnership produced additional Top 5 songs including “Ain't Goin' Down,” “Somewhere Other Than the Night,” “It's Midnight Cinderella,” and “She's Gonna Make It.” That's significant because the songwriter isn't merely entertaining people. He is helping people articulate what they feel but cannot always say. His greatest work may be measured in lives touched, not records sold There is a wonderful Truly Significant paradox in Kent's story: The songwriter often becomes invisible while the song becomes immortal. Millions of people may know the words to a song without knowing the person who helped write them. That makes Blazy a particularly interesting Truly Significant subject. His legacy is embedded in other people's memories, relationships, weddings, heartbreaks, hopes and milestones.He helped launch an important chapter of Garth Brooks' story Blazy and Brooks began writing together in 1987. Their first collaboration became Brooks' first No. 1. But the relationship went considerably deeper than songwriting. At Blazy's Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame induction, Brooks said that Blazy's friendship and love changed his life—and specifically credited Kent with introducing him to Trisha Yearwood. Brooks described that introduction as profoundly consequential to his life. That is classic Truly Significant territory: Sometimes your greatest contribution isn't what you create. It's what you make possible for someone else. He represents the Side Quest becoming the calling Kent started playing guitar and singing in bands in Lexington, Kentucky, toured with Ian Tyson, won a national songwriting competition and eventually moved to Nashville. His early professional breakthrough came when Gary Morris recorded “Headed for a Heartache,” which reached No. 5 on the country chart. The fascinating Side Quest question is: What happens when something you love doing quietly becomes the work you were called to do? For Blazy, songwriting wasn't simply a career strategy. Music was something he was drawn toward from an early age. His own current work continues to explore those musical roots—including albums inspired by The Byrds and The Beatles.His legacy extends well beyond Garth Brooks Blazy's catalog includes songs recorded by Gary Morris, Diamond Rio, Patty Loveless, Chris Young, Crystal Shawanda, Danny Gokey and others. His co-writing on Chris Young's “Gettin' You Home (The Black Dress Song)” produced another No. 1. And in 2020, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, an honor the Hall describes as the highest honor bestowed by Nashville's songwriting community.Kent is a beautiful example of "success vs. significance" distinction. We're back with Episode 2 of FX's The Sage: A Snowfall Saga, as we discuss Wanda getting closer to her dreams while the nightmares that could follow begin to take shape. Not only did Wanda run into some drama this episode, but DG also allowed his mouth and arrogance to land him at the bottom of a few Bloodz shoes.Meanwhile, brothers Lamar and James hit a few bumps of their own, setting up a potential conflict we definitely don't want to see. Leon also reminded everybody why HE IS HIM with another standout moment this episode. We get a familiar face from the original Snowfall series, and Jason made sure to give the legend John Singleton his flowers.We also shared our predictions on how many seasons we could potentially get from the series and yes, our predictions landed in a similar ballpark to where Snowfall ultimately ended.As always, drop your thoughts on the series so far and let us know what upcoming problems you see for Wanda and Leon!

Ein düsteres Vampir-RPG von Leuten, die schon den Hexer gebaut haben – da war meine Erwartung natürlich hoch, und tatsächlich hat mich die Erzählung ziemlich schnell eingesackt. Nicht nur die Hauptstory, auch die Sidequests trauen sich, richtig fies zu werden. Die 30 Tage, die uns das Spiel gibt, klingen nach Dauerstress, sind aber so großzügig bemessen, dass ich kaum das Gefühl hatte, irgendwas zu verpassen. Und jede Erkundungstour, jede Quest hat sich am Ende gelohnt. Was mich dagegen gejuckt hat, war die Gegnerauswahl: Soldaten, Wildschweine und Wölfe sehen wir mehr als genug. Gelegentlich kommt ein Mutant oder Bär dazu, aber im Großen wars das leider schon. Das Kampfsystem wirkt anfangs komplex, man lernt es aber schnell und gerade Duelle machen richtig Laune, da man mit den Skills viel ausprobieren kann. Stehen aber mehr als sechs Gegner gleichzeitig um einen herum, kann es schnell unübersichtlich werden, vor allem weil die Kamera gerne mal den Fokus auf einen anderen Gegner konzentriert. Dieses Chaos zieht sich leider auch ins Inventar, wo selbst die Filter nicht wirklich helfen. Grafisch ist das Ganze auch eher solide Hausmannskost. Wer ein "neues" Witcher möchte, aber nicht unbedingt die Zeit hat, trifft mit "The Blood of Dawnwalker" definitiv eine gute Wahl.
