Welcome to Side Quest Reviews, presented by WIGTP!This series is all about the shows we're currently watching, with new episodes dropping weekly. We're kicking off this new series with the Amazon Prime show Cross, starring Aldis Hodges. We reviewed Season 1 back in 2024 (Episode 131: Cross) and absolutely loved it, so naturally, we have to dive into Season 2. This episode covers Episodes 1–4, exploring all the madness these first few episodes have introduced. We dig into Alex's relationships with El, Kayla, and John, and discuss the season's storytelling, which feels very much like art imitating life, especially given current events. Jason shares a bold prediction, and Jazz expresses her excitement to see Bobby Trey back in the mix. We'll save our “Was It Good Though?” verdict until the end of the season, but so far, it's easy to see where the hosts are leaning. Side Quest Reviews will drop weekly, so stay tuned! Along with Cross, we'll be doing Paradise, starring Sterling K Brown.

What if the thing that looks like a distraction is actually the move that saves your startup? This episode breaks down why the “stay focused at all costs” advice can be risky when you're still figuring out what actually works. The hosts challenge the myth of the linear startup path, arguing that side quests—small, intentional experiments with capped downside—create learning, reduce single points of failure, and help you earn the right to pivot with evidence instead of vibes. They share how Fundable's early equity crowdfunding push revealed founders were unprepared to raise money, which led to a major side quest: doing diligence on about 100 companies, talking to 200+, and acquiring six venture-backed businesses—work that became the genesis of startups.com. Along the way, they highlight the value of the quest itself (market intel, understanding what not to do, faster learning) and even mention an extreme near-distraction: briefly considering buying Atari. The conversation also reframes common “side quests” like doing services work while building a product, arguing that bringing in revenue to stay alive isn't a distraction—it's the business. They clarify the difference between a side quest (exploration) and a pivot (committing to a new direction), and point to the podcast itself as an example of a side quest that became a major long-term asset after a rough start. What to listen for:00:40 The AI Newsletter Moment That Sparked the Topic01:47 What a “Side Quest” Means for Founders03:45 The Myth of the Linear Startup Path06:34 When Focus Becomes a Liability: Certainty, Ego & Roadmaps10:04 Side Quests as the Ongoing Lab (and Why It Never Ends)12:01 Case Study: Fundable 2012 and the Crowdfunding Gold Rush15:48 The Pivot: Founders Needed Help, Not Just a Platform18:07 Side Quests Done Right: Controlled Experiments (…and Almost Buying Atari)18:42 The Wild Idea: Almost Buying Atari (Nostalgia vs. Distraction)19:48 Why Side Quests Matter: Learning More Than the Outcome20:42 Founder-Forward Deal Talks & Market Intel as a Force Multiplier22:10 Side Quests as “Insurance”: Selling the Learning to Skeptics23:48 The Classic Startup Side Quest: Services to Pay the Bills27:14 Side Quest vs. Pivot: Exploration First, Commitment Later27:52 The Podcast as a Side Quest That Became Core to the Business30:26 Earning the Right to Pivot: Evidence, Courage, and Finding Truth34:20 Closing: De-Risking Through Exploration + Startups.com Community InviteResources:Startup Therapy Podcasthttps://www.startups.com/community/startup-therapyWebsitehttps://www.startups.com/beginLinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/startups-co/Join our Network of Top FoundersWil Schroterhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/wilschroter/Ryan Rutanhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/ryan-rutan/

With so much of the world focused on games right now, it seemed only natural for us to do the same and the results are pure off-the-rails gold. (If they gave medals for going on random tangents, we'd be the competitors to beat.) In this new side quest, we discuss Reigns: The Witcher, the just-announced Witcher mobile game releasing later this month, before we deep dive into all the recent rumors about a possible new Witcher 3 DLC. Could they be true, and if so, what would we like to see? We consider the pros and cons of releasing DLC for a game that's now over a decade old before we wrap up with Valerie's thoughts on The Conqueror's Witcher Virtual Challenge and why she may never make it out of Velen. Oh, and we wind up talking about sex cards. Because of course we do.

On this week's episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast, Pete, Sids, and Chris are joined by the one and only Marcus Mumford for a wide-ranging, hilarious, and surprisingly football-obsessed chat. From charity matches and penalty shootouts with José Mourinho, to growing up as a die-hard AFC Wimbledon fan, Marcus opens up on how deeply football is woven into his life and music. The lads dive into unforgettable stories from the Grenfell charity match, playing alongside Premier League legends, and why grassroots football still hits harder than the modern game. Marcus also lifts the lid on life at the very top of music — from Glastonbury and Hyde Park to playing at the White House, meeting Barack Obama, and getting a no-nonsense songwriting pep talk from Noel Gallagher. There's chaos too, as Crouchy's Spanish guitar challenge gathers pace, gigs are planned (and refused) around England kick-offs, and Marcus explains why hearing his music on Match of the Day was a bigger moment than almost anything else.Music, football, side quests, and a proper debate about whether the game really has gone — this one has it all.00:00 – Subscribe song, intro & opening chaos02:15 – Sid's holiday, previous guests & missing episodes05:10 – Guitar chat, New Year resolutions & festival fantasies08:40 – Kasabian, Finsbury Park & learning guitar late in life11:55 – Marcus Mumford joins the podcast14:30 – Grenfell charity match & scoring past José Mourinho19:05 – Visiting Mourinho at home & the “pantomime villain” role23:10 – Playing with football legends27:55 – New album Prizefighter & why it's his favourite record32:40 – Hyde Park, Glastonbury & refusing to gig during England games37:10 – AFC Wimbledon, grassroots football & fan ownership41:45 – Football chants, Match of the Day & music in stadiums46:20 – Noel Gallagher's brutal songwriting advice50:05 – Touring chaos, Mexico gigs & running into the sea mid-show54:30 – “Games Gone”, VAR & what football has lost57:10 – Chris serenades Marcus Mumford as a farewell58:05 – Paddy Power segment01:02:40 – Listener messages01:08:20 – Final thoughts, teasers & episode wrap-upThis episode is sponsored by The AA, the UK's No.1 breakdown provider. Is the AI SOC a reality, or just vendor hype? In this episode, Antoinette Stevens (Principal Security Engineer at Ramp) joins Ashish to dissect the true state of AI in detection engineering.Antoinette shares her experience building detection program from scratch, explaining why she doesn't trust AI to close alerts due to hallucinations and faulty logic .
