As George Lucas was in his final years at Lucasfilm, he had some projects in the pipeline and on the verge of release, but they never happened. Via new interview highlights with producer Rick McCallum and writer Ronald D. Moore, we learn more about STAR WARS UNDERWORLD, the live-action STAR WARS TV show that had 50-60 fully written scripts ready-to-go, but was eventually abandoned. And Seth Green recently shared info about the fully-produced, but never-released animated comedy series STAR WARS DETOURS. These key creatives discussed their experiences working with Lucas on those shows and why fans will never get the chance to see them. In other news, we review interview clips of Daisy Ridley and screenwriter Stephen Knight talking about the ever-in-development “New Jedi Order” film featuring Rey. Plus, we discuss potential STAR WARS animated projects that may be in the works, “Star Wars in Pop Culture” features Mark Hamill on “Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast", and we have a huge announcement about the next RFR LIVE event happening later this year. It's one you won't want to miss!
Not only did David Cross teach me it was okay to be named Ronnie, but he put Aqua Teen Hunger Force on the map. Big time. Fresh off his successful stint on Broadway (yes-- THAT Broadway), David takes the next logical step in his career and spends some time on a podcast about a cartoon he was on a few times. I don't know why he did, I advised him not to do it. Touching briefly on his time on Aqua Teen, David gives us the down low on having two versions of his standup sets, the origin of his nom de plume Sir Willups Brightslymoore, and his love for insane Hallmark movies. In a late-night quest to get chicks, Carl ends up succumbing to the power of the recorder, becoming a musical slave for Hoppy Bunny and his religious covenant of furries. Today we're packing this podcast out with input from FOUR of the critical figures behind this critter-full episode-- Aqua Teen co-creator Dave Willis tells us about turning Frylock's room into a parking garage, Matt Maiellaro gives the low-down on performing as the live-action Recorder Wizard, producer/editor Jay Wade Edwards fills us in on his costume origin, and this episode's original writer Ted Murphy shares with us the power of Apple computer discounts. We're also learning about the surprising medieval-based origin of this episode, Matt gives us his preference on playing the guitar instructor vs recorder instructor, and I'm figuring out what my fursona is. Other topics discussed include how expensive furry suits are, the lingering effects of Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and Communist Manifesto sheet music. Meet one of the most charmingly eccentric of our Legends, Judy Tenuta. From a start at Chicago's Second City, Judy created an immediate sensation with her unusual style -- sort of a Far Side cartoon brought to life. In the era of early MTV, that style proved to be perfection and soon Judy could be regularly seen on the small screen. A 1986 Letterman appearance and 1987 HBO special turbocharged her career and she won the American Music Award for best female comic in 1987. Through multiple albums and books, Judy dove into her persona as the "love goddess", wearing an accordion and slinging pointed and sometimes salty jokes. And she was part of "Weird Al" Yankovic's cast for his offbeat kid's show -- you can't get more Legendary that that! As always find extra clips below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more Judy Tenuta? Judy was fearless as a performer -- and sometimes it took audiences a while to catch on -- check out how the response builds to her style during her first Letterman appearance in 1986. https://youtu.be/BEqznn2kEcg? Judy sometimes played a psychic and perhaps she was judging by this clip from the American Comedy Awards back in 1990. It's way ahead of its time!https://youtu.be/R9IigIWiqis?si=SIAJADhu8RVHWfi7 "Weird Al" Yankovic mounted a hilarious (and unfortunately short-lived") Saturday morning kids show (that was really for adults) in 1997 -- and of course Judy was there!https://youtu.be/vdaXddNyP2Q?si=uqrRzCbB47QFOk2w What happens when two niche comedy legends meet? This clip of Judy on the Space Ghost Coast to Coast shows the results! https://youtu.be/b2XzUq3uf8s?si=OPbrzulMJJJ5zItu

Writer David Pepose joins us to discuss his new Space Ghost series from Dynamite Comics and The Devil That Wears My Face from Mad Cave Studios. But first, what comics shops do Jake and David go to in LA? Are there fewer local comic shops where Anthony lives in New York? What's David's past experience with Space Ghost? Would adding a monkey to anything in the Silver Age equal an uptick in sales? Does Space Ghost have a great roster of villains? Does Space Ghost have all the makings of an A-Lister? Is David the first to build what an organic Space Ghost universe looks like? Can this version of Space Ghost be described as Batman: The Long Halloween meets The Mandolorian? How is the original Space Ghost similar to Adam West's Batman? Does David have a lot of creative control over the story and character of Space Ghost? Does Anthony like Space Ghost: Coast to Coast? Is this a great time to reimagine Space Ghost? How had he been reimagined differently through the decades? Do you have to know anything about the continuity of Space Ghost to enjoy this comic? Are there payoffs for fans of the character? Did the guys grow up watching Space Ghost on Boomerang? Is this an ongoing comic? Did David Pepose watch every episode of Space Ghost before writing this comic? Are Jan and Jace the POV characters of this comic? How is Brak blue collar in his aspirations? What do we like about artist Jonathan Lau's character designs? What other Space Ghost villains can we expect in this series? Did David come across any interesting Space Ghost lore in his deep-dive of the character? Is each issue of this run self-contained? Does David plan on tackling Space Ghost's origin? Is this ultimately a found family story? Is Jan and Jace's sibling relationship inspired by David's own siblings? Does David's personal life also influence The Devil That Wears My Face? Did he write the comic to impress his father-in-law? How is The Devil That Wears My Face a combo of The Exorcist and Face/Off? How does artist Alex Cormack bring this story to live in brutal ways? Does the first issue remind Anthony of The Twilight Zone episode The Howling Man? Does David have fun writing villains? What is the Iscariot Blade? What is David currently reading? What is Project Cicada? What has David got coming out in the near future? All this and more in the latest episode of Comics and Chronic! SPACEMEN!!!! Did you know you're screwing your kids up? You're not. But what if you are? Well today, we'll address that topic. We talk about clip from Dr. Becky Kennedy, a clinical psychologist known as the millennial parenting whisperer. We'll talk about how focusing on making kids happy can actually make them fearful and less tolerant of other emotions. When parents try to rescue their kids from distress, they send the message that certain emotions are bad and should be avoided. This can lead to anxiety in adulthood. It is important to develop resilience in kids and allow them to experience a range of emotions. Society's emphasis on happiness and the avoidance of pain can be detrimental to emotional development. We even give you an activity to do at home to help develop your tolerance for emotional discomfort.KeywordsDr. Becky Kennedy, parenting, happiness, emotions, resilience, anxiety, distress, avoidance, societal pressure, pain, discomfort, emotions, emotional regulation, tolerance, resilience, validation, comparison, mindfulness, ice cube exerciseTakeawaysAvoiding distressful emotions can lead to anxiety in adulthood. It is important to allow kids to experience a range of emotions and not rescue them from distress.Society's emphasis on happiness and the avoidance of pain can hinder emotional development. Not really. We're diving into George Lowe's glorious 2 minutes in this episode, gushing over Mike Judge, and marvelling at the framing device on this episode. While Our Host Ned Hastings wasn't real in Super Trivia, he's real as hell in person. A foundational member of the Aqua Teen crew, Ned entered the Adult Swim world with Space Ghost Coast to Coast in 1999. After working on some of the show's best episodes, Ned contributed to a very early iteration of the Rabbot episode as an ATHF proof-of-concept. From there, he went on to shape the series with crucial input on Mayhem of the Mooninites, guiding the execution of the Mooninites themselves. It was on the show's seventh episode, Ol' Drippy, that Ned joined Aqua Teen full time, contributing immensely to the show ever since then. You may know that by the fact I mention him in like every episode. Ned tells us all about Aqua Teen's new process of storyboarding, his voice work throughout the series, the production process of Plantasm, and much more! Other topics discussed include which Beatle Ned is, the German belief that Salieri killed Mozart, and the shocking lack of babes at the Aqua Teen edit bay. • Ned on Twitter: https://www.instagram.com/therealnedh/ • Ned on Instagram: https://twitter.com/hastings_ned • Space Ghost Coast To Coast - My Dinner With Steven: https://archive.org/details/sgc2c-dinner-with-steven • Space Ghost on the Donny & Marie Show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Q4QIpKYQIA • A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs: https://500songs.com/ ★ Support The Show + Get Extra Episodes • Patreon: patreon.com/dancingisforbidden ★ Amazon Affiliate Links - Support The Podcast At No Extra Cost! • Aqua Teen Forever Plantasm 4K: https://amzn.to/3Svy2ea • Aqua Teen Forever Plantasm BluRay: https://amzn.to/3dLcKKS • Aqua Teen Forever Plantasm Digital: https://amzn.to/3t8cqtv • Baffler Meal 20 Disc DVD Box Set: https://amzn.to/3fmznWf Timestamps: [00:00:00] Intro [00:03:09] Animatic vs Storyboard for Season 12 [00:09:12] Season 12 Production [00:17:41] Ned's Early Years [00:24:11] Ned's First Job [00:28:30] Working on Space Ghost Coast To Coast [00:00:00] SGC2C - Dinner with Steven [00:00:00] SGC2C - Donny and Marie [00:00:00] Working on early Rabbot [00:00:00] Early ATHF/Adult Swim [00:00:00] Working on Mayhem of the Mooninites [00:00:00] Working on ATHF vs SGC2C [00:00:00] Reaction to ATHF getting cancelled in 2015? On this episode of Vinyl Verdict, Bell, Jamie and Plouffe, listen to Plouffe's next pick, DANGERDOOM's The Mouse and the Mask. Released in 2005, this was the only full length album released by the duo of producer Danger Mouse and rapper MF DOOM. Consisting of fourteen tracks that are interspersed with clips from Adult Swim shows such as Perfect Hair Forever, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, the album stands as a tribute to a particular period of time in cartoon history. MF Doom is joined by some of the characters from these shows on several tracks, as well as guest rappers Ghostface Killah and Talib Kweli. The album was well received by critics who admired its production value, the incorporation of the Adult Swim characters and the lyrics. Spin placed it at number 25 on their list of the 40 best albums of 2005. Will the boys place it high on their list of best albums from 2005, or will it be a trip back to a time best left forgotten? Come along and find it!
