Quella curata da Carlo Ratti - uno dei dieci studiosi più citati a livello internazionale nel campo della pianificazione urbana – è una Biennale d'architettura che pone certamente al suo centro l'architetto e la sua disciplina, ma a cui affianca tutta una serie di figure provenienti da altre discipline: scienziati, filosofi e artisti, cuochi e codificatori, scrittori, creature vegetali e animali ….Una selezione frutto anche di una metodologia curatoriale che è partita da un Manifesto di economia circolare e da una Open call che invitava alla partecipazione sulla base di quei principi. Il risultato è una delle selezioni più vaste mai viste in Biennale (300 contributi e più di 750 partecipanti) che ad alcuni visitatori è risultata un po' troppo ricca, ma che rende perfettamente conto della complessità del tema affrontato: passare dalla mitigazione all'adattamento a un pianeta irreversibilmente segnato dall'Antropocene.Con l'architetto ticinese Davide Macullo, che con il padiglione Albania espone a Venezia alcuni dei suoi ultimi progetti e con l'architetta, artista sonora e ricercatrice Sofia Boarino, visitiamo virtualmente i Giardini e l'Arsenale alla scoperta dei progetti più interessanti e innovativi di questa 19. Biennale di architettura.

Ideato e curato da La Piccionaia per il Comune di Vicenza, Terrestri d'estate si arricchisce di un programma di itinerari aperti anche al turismo internazionale, con un cartellone, che fonde arte, cultura e turismo sostenibile alla scoperta della città Unesco. Si inizia il 14 giugno.

Nach dem ersten Aufschlag unseres Hausbesucht-Podcasts in Bezau – da waren wir zu Besuch bei Innauer Matt Architekten und sind mit ihnen durch ihre Museumserweiterung spaziert – heute eine Museumstour in Bielefeld. Diesmal steht weniger das Haus im Vordergrund als vielmehr eine Ausstellung. So läuft noch bis zum 13. Juli 2025 im Bielefelder Kunstverein die Ausstellung PERIS+TORAL, Wohnungsbau, fotografiert von José Hevia, in Kooperation mit dem BDA Ostwestfalen-Lippe. Mit den in Barcelona ansässigen Architekten kann dieser Podcast leider nicht gemacht werden, die beiden waren zur Eröffnung hier, als Benedikt Kraft für die DBZ auf der Preview der Architekturbiennale in Venedig war, wo die beiden aber auch ihre Spuren hinterlassen haben mit der beeindruckenden Gestaltung des spanischen Pavillons in den Giardini. Umso schöner, dass der Architekt und seit 2001 Kurator der Reihe Baukunst sowie Vorsitzender des Bielefelder Kunstvereins, Andreas Wannenmacher, Zeit für einen Spaziergang durch die Ausstellung hat und uns erzählen wird, wie er auf das Architektenpaar kam und mit welcher Gestaltungsabsicht das Haus hier bespielt wird.

Biennale Architettura 2025: Natürlich. Künstlich. Kollektiv – Wohin mit dem Architekturdiskurs? Die 19. Biennale Architettura in Venedig ist eröffnet! Wir waren die letzten Tage in in den Giardini und im Arsenale unterwegs, haben uns vieles angeschaut und einige Stimmen eingefangen. U.a. anderem gesprochen haben wir mit Elisabeth Endres, Charlotte Malterre-Barthes, Søren Pihlmann, Annexe und Edouard Souhaid.

I 12 giardini è il titolo di un trattato di ascesi spirituale scritto intorno al 1435 dall'appena ventenne Caterina De Vigri, clarissa, venerata in seguito come Santa Caterina da Bologna. Ma è pure il titolo di un cd prodotto dalla nostra Rete e che vede affiancati gli ensemble La Reverdie e Adiastema. Caterina da Bologna - prima donna nella storia europea della quale si conservano un gran numero di scritti autografi - percorre 12 stadi del cammino di unione dell'anima con Cristo, descrivendoli come Giardini in cui, come nel Cantico dei Cantici, sovrabbondano immagini simboliche di luce, colore, calore, odore e sapore, suono e ritmo, canto e danza. In ogni giardino possiamo ascoltare il canto della Sposa, che esprime l'intima risonanza della Parola divina dentro l'anima attratta sempre più vorticosamente dallo Sposo.Un approfondito lavoro di ricerca musicologica ha permesso a Livia Caffagni, fondatrice e membro storico dell'ensemble La Reverdie, di ricostruire l'esecuzione musicale di 12 cantici spirituali in uso nel Monastero del Corpus Domini - che Caterina fondò a Bologna nel 1456 - nei cui testi si riflettono perfettamente i contenuti e le atmosfere descritti dalla Santa nei 12 Giardini.

Op Buiksloterham in Amsterdam ontwerpt en ontwikkelt OZ samen met Synchroon een biobased kantoorgebouw met praktisch geen installaties. Dat kan als je het gebouw heel goed isoleert, massa inzet om temperatuuruitslagen te dempen en als je opwarming door de zon regisseert. In gesprek met Oresti Sarafopoulos, architect en partner van OZ, over hoe Baumschlager Eberle ze op dit spoor zette, hoe het precies werkt en waarom dit de route is naar een architectuur die niet alleen in zijn materialisering Paris Proof is, maar ook in zijn gebruik.Bij een regulier kantoorgebouw gaat tot wel 45% van de bouwkosten op aan installaties, stelt Oresti in de podcast; je zou daarom kunnen zeggen dat we bijna in laboratoria leven. Op de Biënnale van Venetië van 2014 verbeeldde Rem Koolhaas dit als curator door onder een deel van de koepel van het centrale paviljoen in de Giardini een verlaagd plafond te laten installeren. Een steeds groter deel van gebouwen bestaat uit een technische wereld van installaties. Samen met John Bosch, ook architect en partner bij OZ, ging Oresti op zoek naar een alternatieve benadering. Bouwbioloog Carla Rongen van de HAN Hogeschool wees ze daarbij op het 2226-concept dat Baumschlager Eberle heeft ontwikkeld. In dat concept kan een goed geïsoleerd gebouw, dat maar beperkt opwarmt door de zon, praktisch zonder installaties het hele jaar een binnentemperatuur van tussen de 22 en 26 graden houden. In hun eigen kantoor in Lustenau, Oostenrijk, bewijst Baumschlager Eberle al vijftien jaar dat dit werkt.Daar gaat het alleen wel om een betonnen gebouw, benadrukt Oresti in de podcast. Beton dempt met zijn massa temperatuuruitslagen. Het kantoorgebouw dat ze op Buiksloterham ontwerpen, en samen met Synchroon ontwikkelen, willen ze een helemaal biobased draagconstructie en afwerking geven. De oplossing die ze daarbij nu gevonden hebben is om een draagconstructie uit cross laminated timber (CLT) te combineren met een gevel uit kalkhennep en dat af te werken met leemstuc. Kalkhennep ondersteunt niet alleen de hoogwaardige isolatie die gevraagd is, maar dempt met zijn massa ook temperatuuruitslagen.Het ontwerp heeft Oresti met zijn team parametrisch opgezet en wordt wat betreft binnenklimaat door Aveco de Bondt doorgerekend. Door de ramen diep in de gevel te leggen, wordt de directe zoninstraling verminderd, terwijl schuine negges wel veel daglicht binnen laten vallen. Het gaat er uiteindelijk om dat de opwarming van het gebouw onder de 15 kWh per vierkante meter komt, stelt Oresti. Dán lukt het. Voor het kantoor rekenen ze nu met 3 kWh/m2 aan opwarming door verlichting, 3,5 kWh/m2 door mensen en 4 kWh/m2 door de computers. In hun ontwerp zijn ze er daarbij in geslaagd om de opwarming door de zon te beperken tot 3-4 kWh/m2. Bij elkaar is dat zo'n 13-14 kWh/m2. Het gaat dus lukken, verzekert Oresti in de podcast.In de gevel van het door OZ ontworpen kantoorgebouw komen kleppen die automatisch geopend worden als er frisse lucht nodig is. Die kleppen zullen dan bijvoorbeeld tien minuten tot een kwartiertje open gaan en dan weer sluiten, voorspelt Oresti. Van hardware naar software.Wanneer je installaties weglaat, dan ontstaat er ruimte voor andere dingen, sluit Oresti af. Dan komt architectuur weer centraal te staan. In het kantoor dat ze nu ontwerpen komt het plafond op 3,5 meter te liggen. Die hoogte ondersteunt het binnenklimaat, maar is ook gewoon een bijzonder prettige maat, benadrukt hij.Het low-tech kantoorgebouw kan met een beetje mazzel in de zomer van 2027 in gebruik genomen worden. It seems absurd that more than a year ahead of the next Venice Biennale, one of the major pavilions in the Giardini might be empty for next year's event. But that is the dilemma facing Creative Australia, which is responsible for that country's Biennale presentation. Last month, it announced the team comprising the Lebanese-born Sydney-based artist Khaled Sabsabi and the curator Michael Dagostino as its selection for the 2026 event—and then, within days, rescinded the invitation. An almighty row has engulfed the Australian art world to the extent that the pavilion has been thrown into doubt. So what happened? The Art Newspaper's Australian correspondent, Elizabeth Fortescue, tells Ben Luke about the debacle. A controversial auction of AI art concluded this week on Christie's website. It prompted an open letter signed by thousands of artists and creative people asking Christie's to cancel the sale and accusing the auction house of incentivising the “mass theft of human artists' work”. In questo episodio di "Giardino Futuro", affronterò un tema che può sembrare controintuitivo: il business è spesso il più grande problema per il giardino.Rifletteremo su come gli affari e la mancanza di consapevolezza possano danneggiare la natura, invece di preservarla.Ti sei mai chiesto a chi rivolgerti per la cura e la sicurezza dei tuoi alberi?Un tempo erano solo i giardinieri e i vivaisti a occuparsi di questi aspetti, spesso basandosi sul "si è sempre fatto così".Ora, per fortuna, l'arboricoltura è diventata una scienza vera e propria, e nuove figure professionali stanno emergendo, anche se in Italia siamo un po' indietro rispetto ai Paesi del Nord Europa.Con Marco Rinaldi, noto come il Barone Rampante, discutiamo di come, a volte, piantare alberi sia più una moda che una reale necessità ecologica.Esploreremo il valore degli alberi maturi rispetto alla frenesia di piantare nuovi alberi a tutti i costi.Vedremo perché investire nel mantenimento del verde esistente può essere molto più efficace e sostenibile nel lungo termine.È un percorso di consapevolezza che richiede tempo, ma sono convinto che insieme possiamo fare la differenza.Alla fine dell'episodio, ti inviterò a riflettere su come si possa imparare dagli altri Paesi e magari, perché no, portare un po' di quel cambiamento anche nel nostro modo di pensare al giardinaggio.Ricorda che il futuro del tuo giardino dipende anche dalle scelte che fai oggi.Buon ascolto.

V spoločnom pavilóne ČR a SR nás reprezentuje výstavný projekt venovaný záchrane stromov. – „Floating Arboretum“ je poctou aktivistom a aktivistkám a ich úspešným, ale aj neúspešným príbehom. Multimediálne dielo spojilo nástennú maľbu na fasáde pavilónu, experimentálnu hudbu, poéziu, performanciu a inštaláciu. Gabriela Kisová, ktorá je novou moderátorskou posilou Podcastu SNG, sa rozprávala s umelcom a autorom Floating Arboretum Otom Hudecom a so skladateľom a autorom hudby Ferom Királyom o spojení hudby a vizuálneho diela, budúcnosti projektu, ako aj o aktuálnej existencii v rámci ďalších výstav v areáli Giardini v Benátkach. Det er mange myter og fortellinger om Sverre Fehn og hans prosjekter. Men hvordan vet vi egentlig det vi vet om Norges mest kjente og inflytelsesrike arkitekt? Erik Langdalen og Mari Lending har skrevet boka Sverre Fehn, Nordic Pavilion, Venice, og i denne episoden snakker vi om Sverre Fehn og hvem han var, basert på de kildene som har dukket opp i prosessen med å skrive boka.  Sverre Fehn (1924–2009) var en av Norges mest innflytelsesrike arkitekter og en nøkkelperson i skandinavisk modernisme. Han er kjent for sitt arbeid som kombinerer modernistiske prinsipper med en dyp forståelse for landskap og historie. Fehn studerte ved Arkitektlinjen på Statens håndverks- og kunstindustriskole i Oslo og var en av de ledende figurene innen norsk arkitektur etter andre verdenskrig. Hans arbeid kjennetegnes av en subtil balanse mellom tradisjon og modernitet, og han brukte ofte naturlige materialer som tre og stein i sine bygg. Fehn vant Pritzker-prisen i 1997, som er en av de mest prestisjefylte utmerkelsene innen arkitektur. Han underviste også i mange år som professor ved Arkitekthøyskolen i Oslo. Gjennom sin karriere skapte Fehn en rekke ikoniske bygninger som fortsatt blir hyllet for sin tidløse kvalitet og innovative bruk av rom og lys. Mari Lending er professor i arkitekturteori- og historie, og blant grunnleggerne av OCCAS (Oslo Centre for Critical Architectural Studies). Hun var seniorforsker i Place and Displacement: Exhibiting Architecture og The Printed and the Built: Architecture and Public Debate in Modern Europe (begge NFR-finansiert). I det EU-finansierte HERA-prosjektet Printing the Past (PriArc) var hun ansvarlig for Images of Egypt, som resulterte i utstillingen ved samme navn på Historisk Museum, Oslo, høsten 2018 og boken Images of Egypt (Pax, 2018), med Tim Anstey og Eirik Bøhn. Hun er forfatter av monografien Plaster Monuments. Architecture and the Power of Reproduction (Princeton University Press, 2017), med Peter Zumthor, A Feeling of History (Zürich: Scheidegger & Spiess, 2018), og Sverre Fehn, Nordic Pavilion, Venice. Voices from the Archives, with Erik Langdalen (Lars Müller/Pax, 2021). Lending er magister i litteraturvitenskap med en avhandling om Marcel Proust (Universitetet i Oslo, 1997) og har sin doktorgrad fra AHO (2005). The sports world may be on the edge of their seats as we draw close to the 2024 Olympics in Paris. But the “Olympics of the art world” is already well underway in Italy: Hundreds of thousands of art lovers are flocking to the Venice Biennale, which runs through November 24. This massive exhibition has been held every two years with very few exceptions since 1895, when it was inaugurated as the world's first art biennial. Visitors who devote a whole week of their time will still only be able to take in a sliver of the art on display, whether it's at the central exhibition, the collateral events, or the dozens of storied national pavilions in the Giardini and around the city. But that's not all the exhibition has in store. The politics of the art world are also on full display, whether in the form of protests or the curators' decisions about how their countries — with all their past and present controversies — will be represented. We are back in Venice for the latest edition of the biggest biennial in the world of art. The 60th Venice Biennale comprises an international exhibition featuring more than 300 artists, dozens of national pavilions in the Giardini—the gardens at the eastern end of the city—and the Arsenale—the historic shipyards of the Venetian Republic—and host of official collateral exhibitions and other shows and interventions across Venice. The Art Newspaper's contemporary art correspondent, Louisa Buck, editor-at-large Jane Morris and host Ben Luke review the international exhibition, Foreigners Everywhere/Stranieri Ovunque, curated by the Brazilian artistic director, Adriano Pedrosa. We talk to artists and curators behind five national pavilions—Jeffrey Gibson in the US pavilion, John Akomfrah in the British pavilion, Romuald Hazoumè in the Benin pavilion, Gustavo Caboco Wapichana, the curator of the Hãhãwpuá or Brazilian pavilion, and Valeria Montii Colque in the Chilean pavilion—about their presentations. And we like to end our Venice specials by responding to an example of the historic work that made la Serenissima one of the world's great centres for art. So for this episode's Work of the Week, Ben Luke gained exclusive access to one of the most significant paintings in Venetian history: the Assunta or Assumption of the Virgin made between 1516 and 1518 by Titian. Since the last Biennale in 2022, the Assunta has been unveiled after a four-year conservation project, funded by the charity Save Venice. Next week, the art world will descend into the Venetian Lagoon for the Venice Biennale, the most highly anticipated art event of this year. The Brazilian curator Adriano Pedrosa is at the helm of the prestigious group exhibition, which is now in its 60th edition, and his show includes more than 300 artists and collectives presented in the historic Arsenale and the Central Pavilion in the Giardini. Many of these artists, who are largely based or from the global South, are on view for the first time in these revered spaces. There are multiple ways to look at the show and its title "Foreigners Everywhere," which is inspired by a famous work of the same name by artist collective Claire Fontaine. It is both an acknowledgement of the artistic positions of exile of the immigrant or outsider, but also importantly asks of the audience to think about who exactly is a foreigner... and who is not. Pedrosa argues that deep down we are all foreigners, and this exhibition, which the curator describes as a "provocation," arrives as the world is facing a multitude of emergencies centered around the very concepts of exile and belonging. Just as everything was coming together over the last weeks ahead of the April vernissage, Artnet's Kate Brown spoke to Pedrosa about what visitors can expect from "Foreigners Everywhere" and his overarching vision for the show. He shared his views on how one should navigate an exhibition of this scale, and discusses his background as a curator in São Paulo, which included organizing pioneering exhibitions of marginalized perspectives and histories during Jair Bolsonaro's populist reign in Brazil. The two also speak about Pedrosa's understanding of what it means to be a foreigner from both a political and artistic perspective.
