Locked On Baylor - Daily Podcast On Baylor Bears Football & Basketball
Dave Aranda still has not announced a starting QB for the Baylor Bears in 2024, but the popular pick is Toledo transfer DeQuan Finn, whose elusiveness and deep ball ability is reminding coaches of TCU great Trevone Boykin, who finished top 10 in the Heisman voting his last two seasons in Fort Worth. Baylor basketball is not done using the transfer portal this spring, and they may well have found their Jalen Bridges replacement out of the PAC 12. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Matt Waldman's RSP Cast welcomes Football Gameplan's Gene Clemons to the show for a conversation about Cleveland's Baker Mayfield, Alabama's Irv Smith, Lehigh's Brad Mayes, and a debate on the upside of Nick Chubb. I've had the good fortune to have Gene Clemons as a semi-frequent guest for Rookie Scouting Portfolio programs. Gene and I studied Breshad Perriman, Trevone Boykin and Baker Mayfield in the three 2015 RSP Film Room sessions. And I recently joined Gene in July on his Offensive Interference Podcast. This weekend, Gene and I discussed a variety of NFL and college football topics: What have we seen from Baker Mayfield during his initial starts in Cleveland and how does it compare to our analysis of his college game? What were the differences between Mayfield and Tyrod Taylor's brief work as the starter? Why the Cardinals and Jets have sacrificed the potential for a better present in exchange for a rookie quarterback? Two of Gene's favorite college prospects to watch: Alabama tight end Irv Smith and Lehigh quarterback Brad Mayes. The Nick Chubb Debate: Where Gene and I disagree on Chubb's skills. It's a fun-filled hour of football conversation. You can follow Gene on Twitter @GeneClemons. David Ubben and guest co-host Greg Tepper discuss former TCU QB Trevone Boykin's assault charge after his girlfriend accused him of beating her. They also discuss another visit to Heim BBQ and ex-Houston coach Tony Levine's decision to leave coaching to run a Chick-Fil-A franchise.
The Gameplan Podcast discusses the signing of DJ Fluker, what it means for the offensive line configuration, the additions on the D Line, and the release of Trevone Boykin and what it means for the backup quarterback job.

Giant fans do you want OBJ traded? Too talented in my humble opinion. So Kaepernick not signed but Blaine Gabbert and Brandon Weeden are back with their old teams? NFL changed the catch rule so can the Steelers get a do over vs the Pats?

This week in the news: • Seahawks sign Quarterback Austin Davis to compete with Trevone Boykin for the backup spot heading into training camp. He’s appeared in 13 games in the NFL, starting 10, with the Cleveland Browns and then St. Louis Rams. One of those was a start for the Rams against the Seahawks in which the Rams won the game in St. Louis in 2014. • This weeks OTA’s and which players are getting noticed. Thomas Rawls is bouncing all over the practice facility, anxious to prove he can stay healthy, and that he is not going to lay over and give his starting carries to Eddie Lacy. Other players making us notice are George Fant at LT, Amara Darboh, Cyril Grayson and David Moore at WR. Shaq Griffin is taking starter reps and the #2 CB spot opposite Richard Sherman. Featured Segment: Linebacker Camp Battles: Mailbag Question of the week: Who will emerge as the starting FB in 2017? Keith and Bill both give the best non-answers possible. ? Show wrap up and close:
General manager John Schneider took to the podium this week and it now sounds like the media is finally getting the message that he's been stating consistently that Sherman isn't going anywhere unless the team gets the kind of value they want in return. Since Sherman hasn't been traded yet, it's safe to assume that hasn't and probably won't be happening. Marshawn Lynch apparently has a deadline to sign with the Raiders before the draft and the guys wonder what a true deadline for a Lynch signing really looks like. Other news items include the departure of Garry Gilliam and contract numbers for defensive lineman Dion Jordan. Rob Staton of seahawksdraftblog.com returns to the Sea Hawkers Podcast to make a prediction of who the Seahawks will take with their first pick. Considering the Seahawks have done little to bolster their defensive line in the offseason, Rob thinks that the first pick would be the way to get help there and he has a pass rusher in mind that the team will like based on some unique characteristics. The guys also amuse themselves with the idea that the Seahawks have a chance to get another NFL Taco. Check out Rob's recent article: Considering a trade-up scenario for the Seahawks Following the discussion with Rob, Adam takes a look at the quarterbacks in the draft who he feels have the best chance for success at the professional level. Davis Webb from Cal made an official visit with the team recently and with the legal issues facing Trevone Boykin, could Webb be a quarterback the team looks at in the early rounds? Dave Bloomquist checks in with a deep dive into the advanced analytics for NFL scheduling and looks at the Seahawks rest differential to see where they may be at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the league. From there, Brandan takes a run at a Wisconsin reporter for publishing information that the NFL is supposed to keep private and Adam sends a do better to some university researchers. Better at life nods go out to supporters of science and to Cliff Avril for living up to his 2016 title of Housing Commissioner. This offseason has reached a new low as Brandan finds himself watching gamers play Madden competitively, but the good news is the NFL Draft is just around the corner and we'll probably see the schedule released in the next couple weeks. To help lead up to the draft the guys take a look at a few prospects that have reportedly met with the team: guard Isaac Asiata, tackle Zach Banner, tight end Antony Auclair as well as wide receivers Chad Williams and Deangelo Yancey. It's important to watch prospect visits, because based on past history, there are players among this group who will are very likely to make the team either via draft or brought in as an undrafted free agent. This week's group includes two offensive lineman and three pass catchers (one tight end, two receivers). Knowing that the team looks for unique qualities, a demonstration of grit, and leadership qualities, the guys look at each of the players through that lens. Who is to blame for the continued rumors surrounding Richard Sherman? The writers who continue to put out the stories or those of us who click on the links? We discuss why this story doesn't seem to be going away. At the annual league owners meeting, Pete Carroll and John Schneider gave us some ideas for how the offensive line might shape up in terms of competition. We could be seeing guys at new positions at four of the five spots. Is continuity more important or is it better to put the best five players on the field? Trevone Boykin was the first Seahawks player to be arrested this offseason. The guys talk about what has been reported and how things seemed much worse in the initial reports. Even though he's now been arrested twice in the past two years, it sounds like the team plans to keep him on the roster at this point. Do better nods this week go to a pair of podcasters who spent a little too much time off topic for Adam's taste and Brandan has to revise his rant from last week to go from a general "do better" to pinpoint a particular team. Better at life honors go to Canadians for surprising us all with their awesomeness and lastly to one NFL team owner for being a sole dissenting vote on Oakland's move to Las Vegas. Seahawks fans finally get what they've been expecting to see from this year's team as Seattle jumps out to a 37-3 lead against the San Francisco 49ers. Two late touchdowns by the Niners brings the final score to 37-18, but there wasn't a point in the game where the Seahawks weren't in control. From the third play of the game where Christine Michael bolted into the end zone from 41 yards out to the final touchdown catch by Doug Baldwin from the backup quarterback, the outcome of the game was never in question. The guys talk about the injury to Russell Wilson and how they feel about the idea of having him play in the game against the Jets. Does it make sense to have him sit out and be ready for the 12-game stretch of regular season opponents after the bye week? With the Jets coming off a performance where they turned over the ball eight times, it's possible Seattle can go to the east coast and pick up a win with Trevone Boykin. With Thomas Rawls out for a few more weeks the Seahawks go out and sign C.J. Spiller after he was cut from the New Orleans Saints. We'll be talking more about Spiller along with Luke Wilson's changing role in this week's bonus show. Brandan gets political in both his do better and better at life nods, while Adam shares of piece of his mind with Peyton Manning's forehead and explains why a top defensive player in the NFL is better at life. Lastly, a special thanks to this week's Associate Producer, David Glennon. iTunes | Google Play Music | Stitcher | TuneIn | Facebook | Twitter | RSS Or listen via our free Amazon app, Android app, or iOS app Call or text: 253-235-9041 Email: gohawks@seahawkerspodcast.com Support the show Get in the Flock! It's the first loss of the season as the Seahawks fall 18-11 to the Vikings. Despite a late interception that allowed the go ahead touchdown for the Vikings, Trevone Boykin had another exciting outing and once again nearly brought the team back at the end of the game. Adam and Brandan talk about what they saw with the first team offense as Christine Michael continues to impress. Russell Wilson had an impressive dime that he dropped right to Tyler Lockett. Not so impressive was the Seahawks pass rush or the ability to cover tight ends. It's another trip to Prisco's World this week as Pete continues to throw around the "good, not great" quote when speaking about Russell Wilson. But who are some of the other names that Prisco has attached that phrase to? It sounds like Wilson might be in some impressive company when you look at other players Prisco has dropped into that category. Sam Smith of the Military Sea Hawkers joins the show to talk about the game. For members of the military chapter, Sam writes a weekly recap of the game to help folks serving overseas feel more connected to the team. He talks about his thoughts on this latest game as well as his expectation for the Seahawks in 2016. **Note: There are some audio quality issues in the later parts of the show. We had a different set up while Adam is on the road and hopefully we can get the audio problems fixed for the next show. Lastly, the guys read your emails before getting into a Do Better and Better at Life. Is it possible for Adam to admit he's wrong twice in one show? Bleacher Report seems to be testing a new style of headline writing that Adam is not a fan of and Brandan takes Ryan Lochte to task for not knowing how to lie to his mom. Adam shares the praises of Pro Football Focus for their marks on our "undersized" center while Brandan has found even more reasons to hope that Troymaine Pope finds a spot on this Seahawks team. Hosts Barry Horn, Kevin Sherrington and Evan Grant discuss the College Football Playoffs on New Year's Eve and make their pick for the National Championship - Clemson or Alabama. Heisman Trophy voting and arrested TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin are also discussed.
We're back! Took a couple weeks off because of the holidays and we figured not that many people would listen, nor did our schedules line up. But! Comin' to you live from Hamsterdam we've got a lot of quack. First, we talk about the Oregon football game against the TCU Horned Frogs. There's the obvious conversation about Trevone Boykin, whom I wrote an article about earlier this week. Boykin is terrifying and is the player that we all thought Bralon Addison could be in a perfect world where he easily slid into the quarterback position when Vernon Adams went down and he received the golden arm of Johnny Unitas from the god Xerxes. The QB edge goes to TCU but if not for a Vernon Adams injury at the beginning of the year we are looking at a one loss Oregon squad (most likely). TCU was ravaged by injuries on defense leading to a few very misleading scores and Trevone Boykin was absent a couple close wins. The Alamo Bowl and Texas have a thing for tragic heroes. People that could have accomplished greatness if not for a few things outside of their control. Oregon does it too. For years we were talking about who would be the next Dennis Dixon. Both of these teams are tragically heroic teams. If not for injuries both of these teams would (most likely) be in the playoffs. This is one of the top five bowl games, and that's including the playoffs.
Week 10 was one of the more unpredictable weeks of the 2015 season to this point, and Inside the Pylon: The Podcast is here to get you filled in on all of the top stories. Hosts Chuck Zodda and Mark Schofield are joined by a number of top experts, including Dr. Christopher Geary of Tufts Medical Center, Nath Pizzolatto of ZoneReads.com, and Emory Hunt of FootballGameplan.com. Topics include: -Chris on the two major Week 10 injuries from NFL action - the plantar fascia injury to Peyton Manning and the Jones fracture for Julian Edelman, including discussion of prospects for return and career impact (1:19) -How the Detroit Lions were able to shut down the Green Bay Packers and their high-powered offense, and whether this is a blueprint for teams to use against Green Bay, or if the Packers hurt themselves with costly mistakes (9:42) -Analysis of the key NFC West showdown between the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks and whether or not the balance of power has shifted in the division, as well as playoff implications for the Cardinals (15:03) -The Harry Stamper All-Go Offensive Play of the Week, featuring Danny Amendola's fourth quarter reception to set up Stephen Gostkowski's game-winning field goal (19:48) -Nath detailing the growth of the New Orleans Saints' rookie class and expecations for them the rest of the season, as well as whether or not the firing of Rob Ryan will help to smooth out issues on defense for the Saints (23:29) -The ITP Glossary term "punt gunner", including discussion of what makes a top-flight gunner, as well as their overall role on special teams (29:43) -Emory discussing what he focuses on in scouting players making the jump to the pro level, how to scout small-school prospects, and Trevone Boykin's future as a quarterback (36:27)
Andrew and Marsh do the standard pre-season spiel; breakout players, games that worry them, a little Baylor shade, and of course, Trevone Boykin.
Join CJ and Drew in welcoming Wolo and Bash co-host David Basham. The trio discuss Heisman trophy finalists, other college football awards, and Drew's girlfriend.
