Tune in here for this Friday edition of the Vince Coakley Radio Program! Vince starts the show by talking about Supreme Court rulings on gun ownership, a Louisiana law requiring the posting of the Ten Commandments in public schools throughout the state, and Vince takes calls reacting to the new law. In the second half of the show Vince talks about a Boeing 737 plummeting to within 500 feet of a neighborhood, a Texas based chain restaurant called Whataburger which has plans to expand into North Carolina suing a locally based Whataburger, and talking about the weather gets politicized as climate alarmists insist meteorologists cast blame upon human activities for naturally occurring variations in the temperature and weather phenomena of the planet.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Dan Woike hops on to preview the start of the '2nd half' of the season for the Lakers and Clippers. The guys debate whether television meteorologists are even necessary anymore. The founder of Pristine Plumbing, Richard Cardoga joins us.

Rerun. A weather map was first broadcast on TV on 18th August, 1926 - but there were no fancy graphics, no on-screen forecaster, and only one intended recipient: the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Washington, DC. In the UK, the Met Office had been producing weather forecasts since 1861, but the BBC didn't bring a ‘weatherman' to British screens until 1954. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain Charles Darwin's connection to weather-forecasting; review the first weather forecast on NBC's Today programme, and reveal exactly how much time the Brits spend discussing the weather… Further Reading: • ‘Weather forecast facts: the first forecast in Britain, the birth of the Met Office and the first TV weatherman' (HistoryExtra, 2018): https://www.historyextra.com/period/victorian/facts-history-weather-forecast-weatherman-tv/ • ‘BBC Television Weather at 60 - A Celebration' (BBC, 2014): https://www.bbc.com/historyofthebbc/research/television-weather • ‘TODAY's First Weather Forecast: Jan. 14, 1952' (NBC): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiAyWYCcAI0 ‘Why am I hearing a rerun?' Were pretty much close to the average right around 70 degrees for most of us and then tonight it'll be another crisp tonight on tap will be clear 48 for the overnight low in the Twin Cities we did this morning waking up especially north and east a little cooler but if you notice off toward the West End start going to be at school tonight versus what they were this morning because of that when switching also the sunshine and that's going to help our temperature tomorrow to get to about 73 so we can see a little bit of a gradual warming trend on her mostly sunny sky for tomorrow looking beautiful for your Thursday the change comes in on Friday it's going to be cool or we will see if you spotty showers around not going to last too long this is going to be more of an afternoon evening event as of now with them was that warm up coming back mid-to-upper 70s clothing in maybe around the 80 degrees and off for the last week of that Monday and Tuesday of what a late-summer would be. Meteorologist Katie Stiener, WCCO Television Weather. Friday, June 4, 2021. So here's our weather conditions across the state looking Fargo almost a hundred degrees already were in the 90s to the last ones remove East we're still in the 80s 87 + auclair 83 degrees right now in Hayward Wisconsin on our winds are still pretty strong you can expect them anywhere from 15 to 20 miles per hour today but here's the ones are high temperatures take a look at just how warm these are 95 here in the Twin Cities is what we're expecting a record high temperature here in the Twin Cities today is 96 now I think there is a possibility that we could get there we got this really dry air and dryer warms up quicker than cold when it's humid air so I would not be surprised if we get up to 96 degrees and I wouldn't be surprised if we could do a hundred to the West as well now as we cool off 75 in the average high temperature for this time of year and that is our low temperature for tonight in the 70s to the South 60s you could get down to 63° in Bemidji then tomorrow we are going record high temperature for tomorrow is 92 so if we get to 96 we will be breaking a record there Saint Cloud could see a hundred Willmar could see a hundred so tomorrow is going to be at the from one of the weekend and things have been really dry recently the yellow all across the state of Minnesota and into Western Wisconsin is an here is moderate drought conditions are we are still low on water and we need it so here's a look at our fire concerns because we are dealing with really strong winds and that dry are we are seeing a red flag warning in effect as of right now we also have a watch against a South so near Alexandria and Wilmer if you are in any of these County shaded really should not be starting any fires today and then I would also watch it for tomorrow or do point tracker and the reason why I mentioned this is because our do points obviously are very important when it comes out it's sticky and feels out there are humidity and so are dew points look at these that's a good thing when they get into the sixties and the 6570 that's when it starts to get really sticky and we're not really going to be seeing that for the weekend these have gone down and down the closer we get to that weekend so that's good news and that's also why we aren't going to be seeing I think for the most part as of right now the National Weather Service we are not seeing any excessive heat advisories anything like that and that's because our do points have really stayed in check I think Sunday could get a little more humid especially if you go up north we could see a little bit more shower activity in the afternoons got a chance for some isolated showers that is going to stretch into the weekend we got a storm chance here on Tuesday we got an isolated storm chance on Monday back home front coming through but I called friend is going to get us where we should be this time of year See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Meteorologist Katie Stiener, WCCO Television Weather. Thursday, June 2, 2021. Here in the Twin Cities if you want to head to the pool like this guy is probably a good idea because it is going to be very warm the next couple of days plan that pool specially for this weekend 87 degrees by 2 p.m. 84 degrees there by 6 p.m. would be surprised if we see a pop-up thunderstorm there but again we've been talking about those do points this is really important when it comes to humidity you can see right here I'll move out of the way so you can actually see it here comfortable and not bad that's going to be where we are in the 50s to 60s once we get to 65° muggy and we're going to hit that muggy range this weekend it is going to be pretty human out there but right now very comfortable just warm you can save more of a dry heat out there 87 degrees in the Twin Cities will be at 88th in Brainerd 85 degrees in Grand Rapids the temperatures are going to be a little bit lower in Duluth and also in to Hayward Wisconsin because of those showers in a little bit more cloud cover that great weekend to get out on the lake 95 degrees is where we will be 90° a little bit cooler there on Sunday but we could see that isolated shower and thunderstorms tomorrow should be good Saturday is going to be a good day to mow as well and you're like me and waiting to turn on the air-conditioning to solid stretch of hot weather we have it right here you can feel free to turn that air conditioning on because we're in the 90s through the weekend and then Shayla 90 degrees on Monday and then things are going to cool off just a bit we're going to see the chance for an isolated showers or showers coming next week but we'll have to wait till we get there to see where those all See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Meteorologist Mike Augustyniak WCCO Television Weather. Friday, May 28, 2021. Looking at the clouds from space to see high pressure in Canada has cleared out most of our skies a little bit of cloud cover for the next few hours across southern Minnesota but there's that high now as the high slides off to the East are winds will shift out of the north east and Easton eventually more around to the South and that will lift temperatures but right now the coolest weather here in the US for the most part it is in the Upper Midwest Twin Cities right now 53 Sioux Falls only 52 where those winds shift Direction a little bit Denver Casper Billings a little milder but it's going to take a few days for that to get here this time of year in the Twin Cities to 73 we will fall well short of that but it'll be a lot warmer than it was yesterday with sunshine in a light Breeze that won't feel too bad make sure you bring the hoodie though for Target Field tonight short series with the Kansas City in town first pitch at 7:10 sunny and 60 to start with temperatures falling through the 50s as the game raps up by about 10 that's why you want the hoodie you will have another night with frost antifreeze right now there is a frost advisory in effect just southeast of the Twin Cities metro and a widespread area under a freeze warning from Midnight to 7 a.m. in Central Wisconsin there are no advisories as of yet in northern Minnesota but as I show you the low temperatures in forecasting I certainly see or think that later today those advisories will eventually be reissued Grand Rapids Hinckley Hayward at or below freezing as we wake up tomorrow morning Twin Cities about 41 but if you're headed to the cabin in Wisconsin again or to the South make sure that the bundle up tomorrow know better temperature is better for sure it will be a little cooler north and west where we will see some showers late in the day but if you're headed south east I think tomorrow is definitely the better weekend day or the best weekend day including Monday at the cabin in Lake City tomorrow 67 we start the 40 sure that's cool but warm quickly with Sunshine Sunday will be a little cloudy or so a little cooler and they'll be a chance for a spot shower but those clouds that come in will also keep temperatures up so Saturday night won't be as cold at the cabin as tonight will be here the forecast back and things up a little bit showing you the full region tomorrow dry and sunny in most areas just a few High thin clouds coming by but during the afternoon and especially during the evening Northwestern and West Central Minnesota will get a chance for some rain showers perhaps a couple of claps of Thunder that's that front that will be moving in it's a pretty weak front and so I think a lot of the showers will tend to dry up through the overnight Saturday then Sunday spotty light showers with plenty of dry weather in between maybe a couple of scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening in North Central and Northeastern Minnesota perhaps as far south Lake Mille Lacs by dinner and across Southwestern Minnesota by dinner again this is Sunday and then that too will tend to wind down and we'll come and do the same thing again coming up from Memorial Day Monday tomorrow the warmest weather will be Sunday the warmest will be north and west 70s their Twin Cities on East cooler only 60s and then Monday we all warm up into the seventies and we'll keep the warming Trend going as we head back to work next week in fact if you can hold out a week Jason by Thursday will be at 80 and next weekend could be quite hot if the signs I see right now hold Meteorologist Mike Augustyniak for WCCO Television Weather. Friday, May 21, 2021. This morning much widespread rainfall so this is isolated and it really is a case of the haves versus the have-nots right now the Northwest Metro has no rain and the Central and Southeast in metro metro does have rain in this is a thunderstorm that bears watching we're picking up a potential at one point and maybe still has a little bit of small hail with it this storm is moving to the north east at 17 miles an hour to Little Canada and Arden Hills will be impacted by this in the next 10 minutes or so that Massage Heights and Shoreview shortly thereafter just sort of drifting Northeast word no warning on it just wanted to give you a heads-up and again there will be some more localized downpours popping up from time to time later today had a little farther south and east Mineola when else worth Wisconsin Owatonna Faribault all have some scattered showers or downpours either in or near your communities and more off to the South and Southeast as well in the warmer it is temperature see or climbing quickly through the seventies headed up into the mid-eighties before the day is out and I do think some of this dryer are will start to erode the cloud deck that's still across Eastern Minnesota as we go through the afternoon into the evening and so we should see a gradual increase in sunshine but also we're going to keep that chance for a few popup showers thunder showers are downpours in the forecast this week have through I really the dinner hour so not everybody will stay dry through the dinner hour but almost all of us will and then if we head toward Sunset & Beyond Skies start clear out pretty well overnight tonight I think we'll see some low clouds redevelop particularly from the Twin Cities on south and east and some localized dense fog tomorrow morning so tomorrow could be a bit of a slow starter but I am optimistic that tomorrow will be the sunniest day even if of The Weeknd size today again ranging from 87 + Fargo to 84 in Marshall so the warmest there will be in that sunniest area I just showed you was there along the North Shore and across Wisconsin in Southeastern Minnesota or Skies will stay here in the Twin Cities about 81 overnight low is 52 will be in the sixties again so pretty steamy you'll need or want the air conditioning and even though we may start with some overcast guys in a few communities I think that low cloud cover will burn off will see a mix of sun and clouds forecasting mid-80s from Alec to Wilmer to Glencoe the Twin Cities but there is a chance that a few of these communities here like say Appleton or Chicago or martial or Montevideo could hit 90 tomorrow and that will happen with a fair amount of humidity so it's going to be feeling quite hot even up into Northern Minnesota I mentioned this Cabin Country warm and humid tomorrow with scattered thunderstorm quiet morning anytime after about 2 or 3 will be a week front in through here and then is we had through the evening into the overnight that front makes it over toward the Twin Cities and then sort of stalls out so Sunday will be the cloud of your day the more unsettled day and there will be a chance for some scattered thunderstorms developing as we had to the afternoon into the evening dropping that chance from northern Minnesota more into the I-94 corridor and yes there is a chance for severe weather continue as we have through the weekend in any of the green shaded area marginal chance for some isolated Hale cells perhaps some damaging wind gusts and then is that cool front gets a little closer to a Sunday we're going to have to increase the chance for severe weather everywhere this is right now or one out of five on our severe weather threat scale that maybe that threat looks like it could be increased if we get a little closer to Sunday so please keep that today in mind Monday it's back to the mid-eighties unsettled and humid still but Tuesday Wednesday and perhaps look lovely as we lose the humidity and it at least for a few days the rain chances See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Riley O’Conner for WCCO Television Weather. Thursday, May 13. 202. 67 here, starting off cloudy. Due point 64. Sticky conditions. Southwind at 8 but they have improved greatly so that is some good news. we were dealing with about a mile mile and a quarter in the southern areas of the state this morning so yeah you can see things were getting a little better. 62 degrees in Glen Cove 64 Mankato. these are going to stay pretty much this way maybe a few degrees is beginning to tomorrow in fact is we look at the dew point tracker today you can see it's in the mugging category but we get tomorrow that just a little bit it's going to continue that way through tomorrow evening and a Friday and into Saturday. so your hour by hour forecast for today if you spotty showers will be out there it's dry time we'll get some Up 77 or so for the afternoon high. as we get to the late afternoon early evening we met here a few rumbles of Thunder but severe weather is not expected for today as those Highs are going to stay well below are well above our average 70 + it to 9 still a mild night ahead with a chance of a few isolated showers and rumbles of Thunder. So as we go through your hour by hour here around six-thirty models are in the king this movie can see maybe a few of those isolated thunderstorms into the overnight hours. wake up tomorrow morning still kind of the same old song and dance I think tomorrow when they had a little bit more widespread precipitation. Cant rule out maybe a stronger storm tomorrow as well. temperature is still going to be in the seventies you'll notice to do points going up a little bit too. so as we look at the hour by hour forecast again we'll start off with some showers and storms as we get to the afternoon hit-and-miss showers and thunderstorms temperature still going to be well above average. we were under that marginal risk of severe weather. the main threat of these storms tomorrow would be some hail severe weather Outlaw Road band is going to be more isolated a nature for those who do see out of thunderstorm so tomorrow stays unsettled warm humid and that's the way it's going to stay that link Friday 81 jumpin’ to 87 on Saturday with a mix of clouds and sun with isolated storms in the evening Sunday and Monday 79. Mike Augustynial for WCCO Television Weather. Thursday, May 13. 202. High Pressure at Jetstream level and that will mean warmer weather patterns developing again for an extended period of time. We're going to start to see a little more cloud cover and some of this unsettled weather you see around us right now move in. We'll get a little closer here you can start to see around the central part of Minnesota some cumulus clouds developing to the West. Clear skies in the middle headed off to the north along the Canadian border. some of those clouds have been trying to drop a few sprinkles as well but the air is so dry low levels today like yesterday with a lot of that is not reaching the ground. Temperature right now in the Metro is 66 and that's a common number region-wide comparing this to yesterday at noon temperatures are up a few degrees but it's also a little bit Breezy or so feeling about the same out there. I think everyone in the metro area knows warmer temperatures near 70 all the way up to the Canadian border. Southwest winds sustained 10 to 15 we've already seen some dust up to 20 and then we'll see some Gustav highest 30 + in a Red River Valley up to 40 miles an hour through the afternoon. Combined with low relative humidity is that means we do it that increase brush fire risk and watch the Twin Cities, the I-35 Corridor to the afternoon see a fair amount of cloud cover develop during the warmth of the afternoon and again there could be a couple of spots sprinkles are showers developing to the Westin Northwest of the Metro but the air will likely end up drying those rain showers out before they reach the ground. Overnight lows tonight typical for this time of year upper 40s to hear 50 Southwest and Southern Minnesota's we wake up tomorrow morning will likely be dealing with some periods of rain possible will be a Rumble of Thunder I think that's pretty unlikely but we're going to keep an eye on that through the morning and in the afternoon best rain chances tomorrow in southern Minnesota but we could see a few spotty light showers here during the middle part of the day and we'll watch northern Minnesota for some of the same coming up tomorrow aside from that outside shower threat little better chance for rain keeps temperatures in the 50s to the South 2 degrees cooler elsewhere but still in the 60s and then end of the weekend Saturday all possible otherwise light winds little bit of sun temperatures near 67 fishing opener looks okay and then Sunday looks even better with highs near 73 and we'll keep the temperatures climbing from there on out right now shall I have temperatures forecasted in the mid-70s for Monday through Wednesday next week we may have to raise those temperatures will see if we get a little closer closer to 80. For WCCO Television Weather, I am Riley O’Conner. We are starting off mostly sunny. Temperatures a little warmer than yesterday. Here in the Twin Cities, starting off 6 degrees warmer. In Marshall, it’s 10 degrees warmer but still cool enough to throw on a jacket. Still in the 30s 40s that type of thing as we get into the latter part of the week will start to see warmer overnight lows but still beautiful sunrise right to keep that weather Watcher red for today as we start off in the 40s right now. 45 downtown Twin Cities Lake Elmo coming in at about the freezing Mark core spot that they are versus 34 and Forest Lake off toward the Western areas of the Metro 40 in Maple Lake. Up North 28, still holding in Bemidji. Hayward 28 clear, Mankato, 41. Watching the frost for about another hour in the Southeastern areas of the state. This is not affected Twin Cities points Northwest no freeze warning in parts of Central Wisconsin. So enjoy a very quiet day, maybe a few clouds bubbling up in the afternoon, the wind will remain on the light side. It will eventually switch to more southwesterly direction as we get into the afternoon. You can see not much of an issue out there this morning at about 5 to 10 in the southwestern areas of the state. Average of 68. Clear sky this afternoon. Doing any yard work today it's going to be absolutely gorgeous. Mid-60s Rochester up to the Northwest brain about 68 or so pushing your 70 around Willmar upper sixties in Marshall, Rice Lake tonight will be at chili we're going to beginning that warming Trend like I mentioned. 48 for the overnight low under a mostly clear sky and the wind will remain from the southwest in about 5 to 10. Enjoy the midday temperatures about 63 ourselves. If you plan on sitting outside for lunch, looking nice through the evening should be a nice sunset for us a few clouds out there and then as we get into tomorrow we'll start see a little bit of a change in the western areas of the state. Inr the Twin Cities we stay dry and increases toward the west and then as we get into the evening. Overnight for the Twin Cities will see a few spotty showers into Friday. Temperatures tomorrow to stay close to that average at 69 to the West at 70. In Willmar the breeze does pick up from the south tomorrow that's about 15. Spotty showers will be possible over the weekend. Next week we warm up Monday and Tuesday in the low-to-mid 70s. Minnesota. Weather. Twin Cities. Metro. Temps. Lake. Weekend. Mike Augustyniak with WCCO Television Weather. The temperature change today versus yesterday iin the Twin Cities is zero. hinckley's at 50 away from the lake influence but also away from some clouds that have built built up. Twin Cities at 54 and that's about the warmest number we can find in the region right now. check in with some of the water Watchers and they're reporting a lot of 40s and 50s 51 both in Rochester and pictures of exit 46 set Charlie's place in oil and 49 from Alexandria down the road to Cold Spring and in Chanhassen and Cannon Falls is 52. years a wider view here of the satellite. you can see how we had these clouds build up across the sea lie and Lutsen in and talk to Rice Lake in Eau Claire sort of on the cloud line to a little bit of Honey breaks in the cloud. and then here in the Twin Cities little more than just partly cloudy skies in many cases. with time high pressure is going to build into the rest of the afternoon and start to scour these low clouds out that leave this to a cold overnight tonight and it's chilly is it has been here I don't know if this helps or not but we are not alone it has been very cold to the Great Lake States and into the Northeast over the past several months and it looks like that will continue at least over the next week. so high temperature forecast today only a few degrees milder than we are right now should get up to about 58 in the Twin Cities but note the wind North it 15 to 20 that will stick around all day today and that will make these temperatures feel a bit cooler particularly if you're in some of those cloudy or areas or at least in areas were clouds linger a bit later into the afternoon. overnight tonight I am pretty certain that we will get another frost advisory out across the region including the Twin Cities down to 36 that's my forecast low and so so far much of Hennepin in Ramsey County has escaped Frost this week, tonight I don't think that will be the case I think we will get frosted even here in the downtown areas and some twenties around from Hayward to Rice Lake end in Grand Rapids on Saturday which by the way will be mostly sunny in much of the area few high clouds to start the day early in the morning to the west and southwest but those clouds will thicken up with time as we go through the morning until while will be closer to 60 today in places like Worthington in Marshall tomorrow it'll be about 10 degrees cooler while a lot of the rest of the region will have a similar feeling today. tomorrow hours thickening up quickly from the Minnesota River Valley on South and West will start to see dark clouds fill in as we go through the mid-to-late afternoon and especially from the Minnesota River Valley South and West. now there's a chance there's some suggestion that this band of rain will be about fifty miles farther north east end of the evening Twin Cities metro particularly the Southwest Metro could see some rain showers. that's the less likely scenario right now but it is still possible but again bring umbrellas from Marshall to Mankato even though it's not coming up there probably until after dark tomorrow night. then quickly do showers go away Sunday morning we're sort of squeeze between two storm systems. one that could bring some rain showers once again during the day in the far south western and southern part of Minnesota and maybe some drizzle up around the North Shore or low clouds will build in through the day here in central Minnesota East Central Minnesota and Wisconsin. I think it's going to be more names of clouds and sun both weekend days chili only near 60 keep in mind are advertised climbing to near 70 in the next week or so and there's no sign of that in the short-term here Monday. Tuesday warming a little bit, Wednesday perhaps a rain shower and then Thursday and hopefully fingers crossed next Friday Saturday Sunday near 70. we have been seeing that kind of pop up in the extended forecast for the past couple of weekends and as we get closer it just goes away. I don't know if that will happen this time but it again at least the signs now or pointing toward a little bit of a warmer stretch. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Yeah. It’s a bit breezy out there. I told you it would be. you see the average wind speeds coming from the West Northwest 30 miles per hour. these are the averages and yeah we're catching squirrely little gusts even stronger than that Saint Cloud a gust of wind coming from the Northwest approaching 37 miles per hour. the wind was a noticeable through the evening hours eventually dropping off at high pressure starts to move in. high temperatures are below average again about 61 it's not cold but it's cool. his is still running about 6 7 degrees below average depending on where you're watching right now. I mentioned this earlier we actually have some rain showers falling across parts of northern Minnesota, it's a little cold front that's dropping down from the north. I tell you what the moisture is very limited. much of this is not even making it to the ground because our air is just so dry down near the surface but unfortunately we don't have more widespread rain falling because that would help cure the fire danger. the national weather service has a Red Flag Warning the wind is strong I showed you that the air is dry I've told you that 20 fire that would start with spread rather quickly this a hold until about 8 tonight when that wind will finally start to drop down from fire to frost here we go again another chilly night on the way you see the frost advisory that's very widespread again from Southwestern Minnesota through parts of the Twin Cities metro and into Western Wisconsin if you have some flowers planted out there again cover them up if you want to keep them or bring them into the house or the garage because we're going to watch those temperatures dropped Like a Rock probably bottoming out around 40 that's in Minneapolis and st. Paul some of the suburbs will slip back in the 30s and we'll see some very widespread 30 parts of Western and Southwestern Minnesota this temperatures falling back to the mid-thirties tomorrow not as windy will have all that Sunshine a pretty fine-looking Friday I'll be at cool again and that trend is going to continue right into the weekend we might nose up to about 60 on Saturday plenty of sunshine across Northern Minnesota a chance of rain down to the South I'll show you with future radar this would be Saturday in the morning hours we see the cloud start the increase in my see some more clouds and a possibility of rain showers mainly to the South nothing severe I don't even think we'll hear any rumbles of Thunder just some steady showers possible a x l with the best chance at Southwestern Minnesota look at the next several days below average pretty much across-the-board outside of those showers coming through tonight we may stay dry for the next solid week and a nice little warm up as we head toward a week from today but that's when 70 is average this time of year so we remain on the cool side but again not cold See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
WCCO TV Weather Today Friday, April 30, 2021 Pure sunshine outside right now meteorologist Mike Augustyniak has a look at our forecast really loving this end to the work week. The bright skies are a huge improvement over most of April. We are headed into the first of May and today is Arbor Day. We hear about the power of trees which are beautiful. We know that but they also really help cleanse the Earth and they can help offset human impacts of climate change. Trees remove carbon dioxide which is a pollutant in the air. They lower cooling costs by providing free shade and they clean other pollution out of the air and also the water. We're talking about millions of tons of CO2 removed by trees just in the u.s. alone, hundreds of millions of gallons of storm runoff avoided and tens of millions of pounds of air pollution absorb. When we talk about runoff, in a warmer climate with climate change, you get heavier rainfall, burst of rain, heavy rain, all of that can produce runoff that 2 goes into our waterways. It can carry garbage and pollution and chemicals so if you plant a tree that tree can only help stabilize the ground but also absorb a lot of that water. If you look closely here that dark green. That's Ramsey County Minneapolis and St Paul. Trees here doing quite a bit of work. So plant a tree. It's not only pretty but you can save a bunch of money as well. Temperatures today 50 in the Twin Cities with a light Breeze that feels pretty nice in the shade. It's feeling a little bit cooler overall are a few degrees cooler than they were at this point yesterday. I will show you cloudier skies that are starting to develop in Northwestern Minnesota to Red River Valley and parts of West Central Minnesota. The state is reporting either partly sunny or mostly sunny skies but these clouds are going to continue to build East word with time through the afternoon and you see a little green here on the map particularly in North Eastern North Dakota. A few showers are possible up in Northern Minnesota starting later this evening into the overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning but for the most part it's high pressure in control keeping things very quiet as this high slides East will get into a breeze. Over all we could get to 59. On average five to 10 degrees cooler today than yesterday and below average as well. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Campaigners and activists are still congratulating themselves for the massive success of the global Strike 4 Climate. Despite the adulation, a poll taken in Australia mere days before the protest found that 65% of respondents were unaware that the climate strike was taking place. And only 6% of respondents said that they would take part. So how do you get more people to care about the climate emergency? Media watcher and Crikey correspondent, Christopher Warren talks about the professional responsibility of journalists in climate coverage, and David Holmes, Director of the Climate Change Communication Research Hub at Monash University explains how weather presenters are being mobilized to convey scientific climate information to television audiences.
We talk about TV weather terms nobody understands and we went LIVE on Facebook.
Bill Walsh lets the rest of us in on the inside of how TV Weather People create and control the weather. Why did we break a record high temp today, Bill explains...
Communication about the reality of climate change is slowly being mainstreamed. Recently, the head of the Australian Security and Investment Commission advised company directors that they had to start telling investors much more about the risks of climate change in relation to their investments, otherwise a company director could personally be sued over breaching their duty of care in the future. In this interview from the Communication Mixdown back catalogue, David Holmes director of the Monash Climate Change Communication Research Hub, explains how television weather presenters can work as facilitators for the mainstreaming of climate change information.
