Government and corporate executives should make a point of learning from the crises situations that others have gone through. The review by the Department of Justice of the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas in 2022 provides important lessons about preparing for and managing a crisis. Find out what those lessons are in this episode of the “Crisis Management Minute.”
Today's Headlines: In the diplomatic update on the Israel-Hamas war, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel will pursue absolute victory, rejecting U.S. calls to scale back the military offensive. Meanwhile, the Saudi ambassador to the U.S. conditioned normalizing relations with Israel on a Gaza ceasefire and an "irrevocable" pathway to a Palestinian state. In the U.S., both houses of Congress passed a stopgap spending legislation, averting a government shutdown until early March. The Department of Justice released a report highlighting failures in law enforcement response to the Uvalde Texas school shooting. A study in The Lancet revealed disparities in pediatric healthcare, with children of color receiving generally worse care than their white peers. Florida's state Board of Education prohibited public colleges from using funds for DEI programs and replaced a sociology course, citing exposure to "radical woke ideologies." Lastly, a Georgia state judge overseeing the federal election interference case against Donald Trump scheduled a hearing on accusations against the lead prosecutor and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, with a response deadline of February 2nd. Trump's co-defendant called for their removal from the case and dismissal of charges. Willis has not publicly commented, stating they will respond in court. The monologue this time has a theme about the hypocrisy of the GOP. First, John discusses the House approving another stopgap bill to fund the government through March and thereby averting yet another partial government shutdown. Second story is the D.O.J.'s new report which shows "cascading failures" on the police response to the mass shooting in Uvalde Texas. And third, Texas National Guard Troops are taking heat after they refused to help a woman and her two children from drowning. Texas governor Greg Abbott is still defying federal orders and he's now blocking Border Patrol agents from certain areas along the border. Then once again, John interviews author, activist, and presidential candidate Marianne Williamson. They chat about her proposal for Universal Basic Income which is a social welfare program in which all citizens of a given population - regularly receive a minimum income. They also discuss Paid Family Leave, immigration, and the Israel - Hamas War. Next, he takes a call from Sam in Tennessee on Marianne Williamson and from Mark in Maryland on Nikki Haley. And he then welcomes back the popular indigenous voices segment with Simon Moya-Smith and Julie Francella. This time they discuss the movie "Killers of the Flower Moon", the GOP's attempt to dilute the separation of church and state, and the blatant racism against indigenous people by Trump and other Republican leaders. Then lastly, John takes calls from Dillion in New Mexico on the moneys the tribes make and Mitch in Kent State on the history of the Indian Relocation Act.To see John LIVE in San Francisco at Stephanie Miller's Sexy Liberal Show Saturday Jan. 20th click herehttps://www.cityboxoffice.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=2930or go to https://sexyliberal.com/tour/See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

It's Tuesday, June 20th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Muslim militants kill 42 Ugandans, mostly kids Late Friday, Islamic militants from the Congo crossed the Ugandan border in the Kasese District, raided a school, killing 42 persons, mostly children, and burning the buildings, reports The Monitor. This was the worst terrorist attack in Uganda in 12 years. The Allied Democratic Forces Muslim terrorist group was formed in the 1990s out of Ugandan rebels. Because they perceive schools to be “soft targets,” they have been attacking them since 1998. Many of these schools have Christian associations. We invite your prayers for the safety and protection of the children of Uganda. 400 Pakistanis drowned in Mediterranean Sea More than 400 Pakistani refugees drowned when a fishing trawler capsized in the Mediterranean Sea last week on its way to Italy, reports the Times of India. The boat had left Libya, bearing a load of 750 men, women, and children hoping to immigrate into Europe via Greece. One hundred were rescued. Last year, more than 800,000 Pakistanis left the country in search of better economic prospects abroad. Pakistan has countenanced high levels of persecution against Christians in recent years. Plus, the nation is facing very bad economic times. Inflation is running at 30% and the nation is drowning in debt — mostly acquired at high interest rates. Other nations facing extremely bad inflationary economies include Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Argentina, Sudan, Turkey, Iran, and Sri Lanka — countries mostly led by irresponsible and tyrannical socialists, communists, and Muslims. South Africa's crackdown against homeschooling In other international news, South Africa's parliament is considering a bill that would further regulate homeschools in the country, reports BusinessTech. The Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill will require parents to apply to the Education Department Head in order to register their student as a homeschooler, and subscribe to the “relevant national curriculum” prescribed by the Minister of Education. The registration may include a home visit from a school official. Also, under the proposed legislation, “The Head of Department must cancel a learner's registration to receive home education if, after investigation, the Head of Department is satisfied that home education is no longer in the best interests of the learner.” Violations of the law would subject a parent to a year in prison. Concerning tyrants, Isaiah 49:25-26 records this: “Can the prey be taken from the mighty, or the captives of a tyrant be rescued? For thus says the Lord: Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken, and the prey of the tyrant be rescued, for I will contend with those who contend with you, and I will save your children. “I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh, and they shall be drunk with their own blood as with wine. Then, all flesh shall know that I am the Lord your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.” Gambling is booming The U.S. gambling industry is growing. Not counting casino hotels, the industry spiked another 17.5%, year-over-year, on first quarter results — now constituting a $36 billion industry for the country. That's up from $24 billion of annual activity in 2012, representing a 50% increase. Healthcare industry and info tech flying high Meanwhile, the U.S. healthcare industry has topped $3.4 trillion, a 26% increase since 2019. And a 67% increase since 2012. But the largest growth in American industry has occurred in the Information technology sector, registering a 77% increase since 2012, and a 32% just since 2019. The trial of Hillsong's Brian Houston The public trial of Hillsong's founder, Brian Houston, is wrapping up in Sydney, Australia. The matter concerns the failure on the part of Hillsong leadership to report sex crimes against children committed by Houston's father — Frank Houston, a well-known Assembly of God pastor, reports The Christian Post. The elder Houston grew a large church in the 1980s, which eventually merged with Brian Houston's Hillsong Church in 1999. Hillsong leadership has been mired in scandals relating to adultery, sexual abuse, and drunkenness for years. Jesus said: “It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.” (Luke 17:1) Hillsong's musical influence In related news, WorshipLeaderResearch.com released a study earlier this month analyzing the last 10 years of the most popular worship songs used in American churches. Twenty-four out of 25 of the songs are sourced in Hillsong, Bethel, Passion, Elevation, and North Point — five megachurch movements of the early 21st century. The Hillsong Worship group is credited as the top contributor with 6 out of 25 songs. Lessons from Uvalde, Texas Marking the May 24, 2023 one-year anniversary of the Uvalde, Texas school shooting when 18-year-old Salvador Ramos killed 19 kids and 2 teachers and injured 17 others, I interviewed Michael Letts, a 30-year veteran of law enforcement for today's edition of Generations Radio. Tragically, the Uvalde School Police Chief, Pete Arredondo, hesitated in authorizing his officers to shoot Ramos. That's why it took an agonizingly long 77 minutes for the police to finally do their job. LETTS: “Instead of engaging as a training was, [Arredondo] hesitates. He says, ‘I need more information. Let me find out what else is going on. I think that shooter has locked himself into a room, and we're going to wait it out.' “That was not the case. He put himself in a room alright, a room full of kids and was shooting up and killing kids as this was all progressing. What is so frustrating is the officers are in the hallway. They can hear the shots ringing out. They can hear the cries of children. They know that, ‘No, he is not in a room by himself.' “But there's a structural command of authority. So, they are frustrated. They're waiting to do what they've been trained to do, and that's to go in and confront the assailant. They're not given the authority to do so.” To listen to my entire 28-minute interview with Michael Letts about “Lessons from Uvalde,” go to www.Generations.org/radio. Frozen strawberries contaminated with Hepatitis A And finally, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall on frozen strawberries sold at Walmart, HEB stores, and Costco, reports CBS News. Marking the May 24, 2023, one-year anniversary of the Uvalde, Texas school shooting when 18-year-old Salvador Ramos killed 19 kids and 2 teachers and injured 17 others, guest host Adam McManus talks with Michael Letts, a 30-year veteran of law enforcement. Letts, who was born on the mission field in Mexico and who graduated from Liberty University where he was the bodyguard for the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, addresses why: * It took 77-minutes for the police to finally take out Ramos. * The former Uvalde school district police chief Pete Arredondo hesitated for so long to give the command to breach the classroom. (He was eventually fired.) * 90% of U.S. police do not have an “active shooter” bullet proof vest made with titanium to protect them from an AK-47 or an AR-15-style rifle.

It's been one year since an 18-year-old gunman stormed an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. Nineteen children and two teachers tragically lost their lives that day, leaving behind a deep wound in the grief-stricken United States town. One year later, the community still aches as the investigation into the police response remains unresolved.
Often after mass shootings, you hear Senators and Congressmen say that more than thoughts and prayers were needed in reaction to the tragedies. That was the case once again after the shooting at The Covenant elementary school in Nashville. But there are people in Congress whose job it is to specifically provide prayers -- the Chaplains. In this episode of C-SPAN's "The Weekly," we hear prayers offered by Chaplains opening the House and Senate following decades' worth of mass shootings in America's schools. This is a special episode – we ran a version of this podcast of this podcast on June 2, 2022, after the shooting at Robb Elementary school in Uvalde Texas. It's updated now for Nashville. Today's headlines: A lesser known republican mega donor named Barre Seid stealthily made one of the largest political contributions ever last year — donating 1.6 billion dollars worth of shares of his company. Texas attorney general Ken Paxton issued a legal opinion last week that could potentially lead to mass chaos in November's election, including exposing election officials to potential criminal charges and threatening ballot security. Biden has announced Kim Cheatle as the new head of the Secret Service, while his administration has also moved to formalize DACA and shield it from legal challenges. A federal judge in Idaho blocked part of the state's abortion ban, and an English teacher in Oklahoma has resigned after being placed on leave for informing her class that the Brooklyn public library has access to free e-books online, as well as QR code to find them. Finally for this week, The school board in Uvalde Texas unanimously voted to fire school district police chief Pete Arredondo, and Harvey Weinstein has been granted an appeal in his convictions of third degree rape and two counts of predatory assault in New York. This week dozens of family members of victims of the Uvalde Texas school shooting showed up at the town's first school board meeting since a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers in May.The atmosphere became tense and emotional as families confronted board members, demanding assurances that students and staff would be safe in the coming school year. The school board meeting followed the release of surveillance footage from the day of the shooting and an investigative report released by the Texas House of Representatives. The investigation found that a total of 376 local, state, and federal officers converged on the scene. But due to "systemic failures and egregiously poor decision making" on the part of the police, more than an hour passed before anyone confronted the gunman. Many Americans feel that the police stand between order and chaos. Yet the massive failure by law enforcement in Uvalde may change how the public views police and how police view themselves.NPR's Michel Martin speaks with Seth Stoughton, a professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law.In participating regions, you'll also hear a local news segment to help you make sense of what's going on in your community.Email us at considerthis@npr.org.
