Liam Lawson will get his first taste of Formula One as a fulltime Red Bull driver when practice begins this afternoon for the season-opening Melbourne Grand Prix. His only previous experience at the circuit came via a lap in a V8 Supercar last year. Motorsport Commentator James Allen told Andrew Dickens that there's no question Lawson's got talent. He says he wouldn't judge him too much on how he performs on the Melbourne track though, as it has some very strange characteristics and doesn't really reflect anything of the season ahead. He co-founded one of the top (and earliest) standalone ECU companies on earth, helped develop unique V10 F1 engines, created ignition systems for top-tier motorsports, and finished it all off by producing stock-frame turbocharger upgrades that push the limits of what a factory turbo is capable of.Mark Boxsell has had a varied and fascinating career in the performance industry, and he's ready to unpack it all in this episode of Tuned In.Use GTPUMPS100 to get $100 off HPA's Tuning Starter Package: https://hpcdmy.co/starterbHaving grown up on a farm in rural Australia that instilled a drive towards resourcefulness and ingenuity, by his early twenties, Mark Boxsell would latch on to the emerging EFI revolution and create his own fuel injection system for his personal Mazda rotary. And that was just the start. Mark went on to invent one of the world's first aftermarket standalone ECUs, which we all know today as Haltech. In this episode, we get straight into the mind-blowing history of how Haltech came about, discussing what was involved in creating it, the incredibly basic tools he had at his disposal to make it happen, and how it actually worked. We next discuss Mark's stint developing a unique V10 Formula 1 engine that used rotary valves instead of the traditional poppet valves. Mark goes into detail about how it worked, and why we never saw it on the grid. Then it's time to talk about ignition systems, which Mark knows a lot about as one of the founders of M&W Ignition — which supplies series like Australia's top-tier V8 Supercars. We finish the episode off by moving into Mark's current venture, GT Pumps. This company specialises in stock-frame turbocharger upgrades, which are currently aimed squarely at the WRX and Evo markets. This gets into some heavy turbo tech, covering the benefits of journal-bearing turbos, stock turbo system capabilities, and more.If you're into tuning history and love a dose of nostalgia, this episode with Mark Boxsell is an absolute must-listen. I'm in Sydney today wearing my corporate speaker hat, so with the Olympics a moment away, today I thought we'd revisit a chat I had with one of Australia's best Sports Journalists (and my favourite), Mark Beretta. Enjoy. Mark Beretta OAM is an Australian journalist, best known as a sports reporter on Seven Network program Sunrise. This was a fun episode with one of the most easy-going, authentic and likeable blokes on the telly. Among other things, we spoke about his upcoming gig at the winter Olympics (his 13th Olympics), his ten Australian water-skiing championships, his parenting challenges, embracing the hurt, tearing his quad off the bone while showing off (ouch), the toughest athletes (mentally), his inner bogan (V8 Supercars), being the hardest worker in the room and lots more. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Phil and Josh are back to discuss a busy weekend in motorsports on the GSP. William Power led a Penske sweep of the podium at Road America. Strategy played a big part in the results of the day along with a major wreck at the start of the race, taking out polesitter Linus Lundqvist and Colton Herta. In off-track news, Augustin Canapino's fanbase continues to show the worst in social media. In turn, he gets benched for Nolan Siegel and that could possibly mean more than just one race. The guys look at all of this and the points heading to Laguna Seca. NASCAR Cup and XFinity raced at Snoreoma for Faux's last race of 2024. Kyle Larson was the dominant presence and earned another road course victory with better tires at the end. Martin Truex, Jr. is left wondering when that win will come but earned solid points. Some destruction took place because they brought stage breaks back, but the final stage was pretty tame. For all of the XFinity teams, Shane Van Gisbergen is definitely making things difficult on road courses with his supreme talent. His restart move on Bobby Hill allowed the Kiwi to win two consecutive races and solidify his spot in the XFinity playoffs. However, the post race celebration may have been one of the greatest things ever. Fish Lips won the Canadian Grand Prix but it wasn't a straightforward event with the emergence of Lando Norris continuing to cause the one car trouble. Woody Russell rounded out the podium after starting on pole. Sir Lewis Hamilton's last year in silver and black continues to confound many with all of the issues he's facing on his side of the garage. His future employer definitely had a weekend to forget. The GSP Roundup covers Indy NXT, NHRA, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, V8 Supercars and WSBK before Phil and Josh preview the NBC opener at Iowa Speedway. They provide their thoughts of no Junebug on the broadcasts but the fact that NBC actually tries. Also, they discuss the paving of two grooves in the turns and if that will cause one-groove racing. Both make their picks for the Cup and XFinity races before Josh's Sim Segment and Show Close.

Renee Gracie was just 19 when she began racing V8 Supercars at Australia's legendary Bathurst 1000. Despite breaking records on the track, the sexism and sexualisation she faced forced her out of the sport. Fighting fire with fire, she set up an OnlyFans account, becoming Australia's biggest earner on the subscription adult content site. She then used the money to set up her own Supercars team. Her story is captured in a new documentary: Renee Gracie:Fireproof, screening as part of the DocEdge festival in June and July. Renee Gracie and the doco's co-director Frances Elliott join Susie.
Phil and Josh are getting ready for The Greatest Day In Motorsports on E220 of the GSP. The IMS Road Course started the Month of May and Alex Palou earned the victory, with Will Power and Christian Lundgaard rounding out the podium. The guys go over a typical IMS road course IndyCar race and update the points leading into the Indianapolis 500. The Throwback Weekend at Darlington saw Brad Keselowski return to victory lane for the first time since 2021, his first win as an owner/driver, and so many other firsts during the Badyear 400. Tyler Reddick yeeted Christopher Buescher and cost them both a chance at victory. The Fords have actually started to show fight after a brutal beginning of the 2024 season. Justin Allgaier went out at a difficult racetrack and dominated for his second win of 2024 in the XFinity Series while Ross Chastain practiced his Gallagher routine winning for Niece in the Truck Series. In other NASCAR News, the Cup Series will have an in-season tournament next year as part of the TNT/Amazon package. The idea originated by Dennis Hamlin will exist starting with the Coca-Cola 600, which Dale, Jr. will be calling. What do the guys think about this addition? For the GSP Roundup, Phil covers IMSA, WEC, MotoGP/Moto2, Formula E, WRC, Indy NXT, V8 Supercars and F2/F3 before previewing the San Marino Grand Prix for Formula 1. Can Lando Norris make it two in a row or will Fish Lips go back to domination? Phil and Josh make their picks for the pole, front row and who will go home from Indy 500 qualifying before previewing the newly paved North Wilkesboro Speedway for the Cup All Star Race and Truck Series. The guys make their picks for winners, advancers, wild cards, etc. before Josh's Sim Segment and Show Close.

Hear about travel to Queensland's Gold Coast as the Amateur Traveler talks to Leanne and Lyle from BeachTravelWine.com about one of their favorite beach destinations. https://amateurtraveler.com/travel-to-queenslands-gold-coast/ Why should you go to the Gold Coast? Leanne and Lyle say, "We go for lots of different reasons, but I guess the main one would be, the stunning beaches, and I know lots of places have stunning beaches, but this would have to, I think, be Australia's best strip of beaches, and it's the best surfing beach area, in Australia. It has a really interesting nightlife too. It's the nature, it's right there at the mountains as well and it's adventure. It's got a nickname of the Glitter Strip or, our Glamour Strip. It's it's not Las Vegas by any stretch of the imagination, but it's got that feel about it." Leanne and Lyle lay out a week-long itinerary: Day 1: Start your visit in the middle of the Gold Coast, in Surfers Paradise. Explore Cavill Avenue, a pedestrian-only strip with attractions like wax museums and Ripley's Believe It or Not. Stroll along the beachfront walkways and enjoy the beautiful beaches and surfers. Check out the iconic Surfers Paradise beach area and consider visiting the Q1 building for breathtaking views of the Gold Coast. If you're adventurous you can climb the outside of the building. Keep an eye out for the meter maids made famous by the Beatles. Day 2: Head about 40 kilometers inland from the Gold Coast to Mount Tamborine, a mountainous area known for its lush rainforests. Explore the little town of Tamborine and the Gallery Walk, featuring craft shops, pottery, and more. Enjoy the Rainforest Skywalk and explore Lamington National Park, known for its hiking trails, waterfalls, and lookouts. Consider hot air ballooning or visit local wineries and coffee plantations. Day 3: Experience whale-watching cruises starting from South Port Marina. You'll have a chance to see humpback whales from June to November. After the cruise, explore the South Port Marina area and enjoy the beautiful views. Consider dining at local surf clubs and taking a stroll along the Tweed River with its picturesque views. Day 4: Visit Pacific Fair, a large shopping center with various shops, food courts, and outdoor areas. Explore Broadbeach, known for its range of restaurants and cafes. You can visit Kurrawa Surf Club for lunch, take coastal walks, and enjoy the park. Day 5: Explore Coolangatta and Rainbow Bay, where you can visit the iconic Snapper Rocks and enjoy the beach and local restaurants. You can also visit Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, where you'll encounter Australian wildlife, see wild lorikeet feedings, and enjoy various animal encounters and activities. Day 6: Take a day trip to Moreton Island, known for the Tangalooma Wrecks, sunken ships that create a unique snorkeling experience. Enjoy the underwater scenery with coral and various fish species. You can also participate in dolphin feeding, where wild dolphins swim close to shore to take fish from your hand. Day 7: Spend a relaxing day, perhaps visiting a spa or wellness center at your accommodation. Enjoy the beach, swim, and unwind, taking in the serene surroundings of the Gold Coast. Some optional activities would include exploring some of Australia's best theme parks including Movie World, Dream World, and Wet'n'Wild. Consider purchasing a multi-day park pass to experience all the rides and attractions these parks offer. You might also check if there are any local sporting events happening during your stay, such as NRL or Aussie Rules games. Fans of racing should think about attending events like the Gold Coast 500 V8 Supercars race or the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia. In both events, cars race through the streets of the Gold Coast. For a side-trip consider a day trip to Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, which is only about a 45-minute train ride away. Explore Brisbane's attractions, such as the Botanic Gardens, South Bank, and the River City's waterfront. You can attend unique cabaret shows like "Dracula's" or "Outback Spectacular" to add some excitement to your evenings. Be aware of the two weeks in November when kids Queensland and New South Wales visit the Gold Coast for "schoolies" celebrations. This is Australia's version of spring break for recently graduated high school seniors. It might not be the ideal time for a visit if you're looking for a quieter experience. If you are looking for a mix of glamour, beach, and nature, then consider Queensland's Gold Coast.

In December of 2001, Aussies across the continent were hit with earth shattering news – Holden Racing Team's golden boy, Craig Lowndes, was joining Ford's Blue Oval. Shockwaves rippled through the legions of loyal V8 Supercar racing fans – it was known that you were either team Holden or team Ford, and there was no switching sides. A rivalry deeper than the Hatfield and McCoys, and more bitter than the Red Sox and Yankees, was about to be put to the ultimate test. But how did this deep seated rivalry even begin? Is this the story of gladiators being forged in the crucible of ultimate battle or just two bastions of the same big corporate business propping up car sales with race wins? Has this famed automotive rivalry from down under come to a peaceful conclusion and broken generational racing curses? You asked for it -- and we listened. We're filming Past Gas again! Phil Parsons has done it all. From being the little brother of a NASCAR Legend, a racer, a team owner and a broadcaster, the only thing he hadn't done was come to the Bojangles Studio to sit down with Dale Earnhardt Jr. Until now. On his 65th birthday, Parsons sits down with Dale Jr. and Mike Davis about his fascinating life. All he wanted to do is race. Plain and simple. From the age of five, watching his brother Benny in daring Figure-8 races through his older brother's monumental ascension through the sport, little brother just wanted to drive. When he got his shot, it didn't come easy. He took a Vega and some infrequent opportunities and made the most of them by winning races in NASCAR's Baby Grand Series, which was to become the Dash Series. He won at places like Hickory Motor Speedway, Caraway Speedway, North Wilkesboro and Nashville. It's a period of Parsons' story not often talked about and a time that Dale Jr. came to the table with curiosity about. Parsons' racing career hit rock bottom, when family money and opportunity ran dry. So, he humbly went to Humpy Wheeler for help. The advice led him to a "real job" working with Travis Carter on Hal Needham and Burt Reynold's Skoal Bandit team. The team's drivers were stuntman Stan Barrett and the legendary Harry Gant. The job created a relationship with U.S. Tobacco which blossomed into funding for his own chances back behind the wheel. The sponsorship sent Parsons on a course for Cup. At first, he was just trying to stick in NASCAR's Late Model Sportsman ranks (now known as the Xfinity Series). His rookie season produced success and an opportunity the next year with the Skoal Bandit team in NASCAR's Cup Series. Parsons is well known for a massive crash he experienced at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama which sent his racecar tumbling violently on the high-banks. He details the wreck from his vantage point and the pain it produced. Phil also experienced the jubilation of winning in NASCAR's elite series, when he captured a win, five years after his flip, at Talladega. He explains the Zen of having the perfect car that day and matching it with perfect strategy and drive. At the end of the 1989 season Phil elected to have cataract surgery. After the successful procedure, Parsons started in his next big opportunity, for the powerful Morgan McClure Racing team. But, only three races into his tenure with the team, he got a call saying that the team was going in a different direction. Phil opens up about taking that phone call and the decision that ultimately cut the growth of his Cup career. Parson's also reveals how false rumors about his eyesight then hindered potential chances in Cup. His decision to return the Xfinity Series was a family matter. He details the choice and how he built part-two of his racing career. Parsons goes into detail about his brother Benny and the wild repair job that netted him the 1973 NASCAR Cup Series Championship. He also talks about Benny's role as a television broadcaster and how his legacy lives on. Phil too followed in Benny's footsteps with a successful television career of his own, to which he still enjoys to this day. DIRTY AIR Before Parsons joins the show, Dale, Mike, Hannah and Matthew talk about: Dale and Amy's wild commercial travel adventures and their trip to France. The upcoming live DJD show at Nashville's Ole Red. Jeremy Mayfield and others winning after being on the show. The sport needing more short-track style road courses. ASKJR presented by Xfinity The fan questions came rolling in about: What songs pump up Dale Jr. Road Course suggestions like running a green Sonoma or The Boot at the Glen!
